elcome to March! The month of green beer, even more fabulous things to see and do, and...cars. Yes, cars!

Dawne Richards, Publisher

his month, we're showcasing dream cars - and dream car shops, dream car shows, and much more. Here and there, we've had some fun placing vintage ads for some of the most iconic of classic cars.

hile this is the "dream car" issue, we couldn't help but include a couple of dream photos - works of art, really. A word about the model in the photographs on Page 9 and the back cover: Elizabeth Berry is a UCF alumna who enjoys blogging about beauty, curly hair, style, and great food. She is located in Lake Placid, FL but enjoys traveling to South Florida for modeling adventures. In, of course, her dream car. What might that be? We claim journalistic privilege.

The kids are having a car show benefiting International Children's Surgical Foundation (one of the many charities that our Rotary club supports) -the one that does all the amazing cleft palate work in 3rd world countries. Everyone was born to smile! Our cover boy, Jay Ghanem, community supporter and auto-man extraordinaire, will be in attendance, accompanied by such luminaries as City of Pompano Beach Mayor Lamar Fisher and Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Ric Green. Road Trip! A Guide to Motoring in Style and Comfort

W

hen taking a road trip, it can be difficult to stay stylish in a car. I don’t suggest wearing pajamas or workout clothes; they aren’t cute travel outfits. If you’re going to be in a car for more than three hours, here are six things you can do to be very comfortable and avoid embarrassment when you get out of the car for a stretch or, even better, when you arrive at your destination.

SIX TIPS FOR LOOKING LIKE YOU DIDN'T JUST TAKE A SIX HOUR ROAD TRIP 1. WEAR CUTE COMFORTABLE SHOES When you’re going to be in the car for hours, there is no need to wear your sexy high heel shoes. It is best to wear shoes that are comfortable, but I mean cute comfortable. Ballet flats can feel like you’re wearing socks and can be slipped on and off in the car and for walking around at rest stops. 2. CARRY A LARGE HANDBAG Little clutches for a road trip just won’t do. Bring a large handbag to hold all of your necessities. Makeup for touch ups, extra hair accessories, hand sanitizer, cellphone, face powder, Chap Stick, Kleenex, notebook, pen, iPad mini, wallet, sunglasses, and gum. These are items you need to have within arm’s reach and not in a suitcase in the trunk. 3. WEAR COMFORTABLE BLACK LEGGINGS/ TIGHTS If you want to be comfortable while sitting in the car for hours, wear leggings instead of jeans or slacks. That way, you can cross your legs and work on your laptop if you need to. Black is better for leggings than any other color. They look

slimming and they hide the occasional stain caused from road trip snacks. 4. DRESS IN LAYERS Layering while on a road trip is critical to being stylishly comfortable. If the weather is warm, you can remove a layer; and if it is cold, you can add a layer. Opt for light layers -- a thin T-shirt, with a button-down that you can leave unbuttoned. Carry a cargo vest along if you need another layer. 5. BRING SUNGLASSES Sunglasses are a fashionable accessory, but they are an essential tool in protecting your vision from harmful UV rays. Long hours in a car can be hard on you, so bring a pair of sunglasses to cover your tired eyes. Put the top down, sit back, and enjoy the ride as you soak up the sun on the open road. 6. PUT YOUR HAIR UP Wear your hair up. This is a great way to keep your hair looking good, whether the windows are rolled down or not. Put your hair in a bun or a ponytail, whichever looks best with your outfit. This will keep you looking cute, even after hours spent on your road trip, singing at the top of your lungs.

ARRIVE LOOKING FABULOUS

Don’t forget the obvious road-trip accessories, like music, snacks, bottled water, and a GPS. Bring coins and small bills for tolls, a fully filled spare tire, an emergency car kit that includes first-aid supplies, a car charger compatible with your cellphone, lip balm, and a full tube of sunscreen. Use these six tips to help you stay comfortable and stylish on your road trip.

your lifestyle fashion: the goods

The Long and the Shorts of it RSVP – it’s party time and you’re excited to get the nod...then you examine that invite closely – festive attire, dressy casual, informal, casual – ugh, what do they mean!?! If you’re considering shorts for your gathering, take heed: there are some guidelines.

1) Garden party – most may appear in their sundress finery but good for you for going rogue – just make sure you’re keeping with the theme and eschew the cutoffs. Make a splash in a bright color and be aware of your top. If you are sporting a three inch yellow and white polka dot pair, wear that elbow length, round neck lemon appliqué sweater you’ve hung unto for just this occasion.

4) GNO – this is the outing where the hot pants make an appearance. If you’re feeling brave, parade those leather shorts with some rockin’ heels. You worked for those legs! Show them off. Feeling a little selfconscious? That’s okay, you can garner a similar style with bold wool shorts, tights and booties.

2) Cocktails – Shorts are showing up on the runway in all configurations. Opt for the billowy silk, sassy sequin style or flirty lace style and pair with a great heel, and bam! you’ve highlighted your gams just the same as if you were sporting a short skirt. 3) Company picnic – don’t stray from the conservative – you may have the best stems in the business but this is not the venue to risk a booty shot. Stick with your khaki shorts and go for at least a five inch length pairing with flats or tennis shoes depending on the outdoor activity options.

Without a doubt, designers have shown that shorts can be a spectacular substitute for the mini. Embrace the trend and know that this piece can come off the jogging trail – it is no longer just a match for the task at hand. // BY BENJAMIN'S FINE ALTERATIONS AND TAILORING. Parenting children with disabilities

B W

eing a parent with children of disabilities is a tough job. Most people may believe it is difficult because of the medical and education concerns, but there is more to it than that. I find that the most difficult part of being a parent to children with disabilities is the unknown. There are many unknowns, especially if you have children with autism. Although more and more research is being released on autism every day, it’s still the case that no one can provide you with a clear path or direction for your child. hen I received the diagnosis for my first son, it was hard emotionally (of course), but I felt weak because even if I provided my son with the best educational opportunities and the best treatment, no one could tell me what to expect as he grew older. If I did not know what to expect, how could I plan? I am a planner. The unknown was very difficult to deal with. Would he catch up with his peers on an intellectual level? Will he be able to appropriately interact in social settings? Will he able to go to gain employment? Will he have the opportunity to go to college?

Worrying, while it can be warranted, can also be wasteful. Focus on today and love your children no matter what.

About the Staffords Dr. Gina and Jim Stafford have been married for over 15 years. Throughout that time they had four beautiful children – all boys!!! Over the course of their relationship they have faced ups and downs, especially since three out of the four sons were diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Despite the obstacles that came their way, their marriage has grown stronger. People who know the couple always ask how they do it. The answer is that with hard work and faith anything is possible. The couple decided to share their story, their strategies, and their lives with other couples to assist them in building a relationship just as strong as their own. Each month, we bring you their words of wisdom, devoted to helping couples explore the many issues facing marriages today. Read more about this engaging couple at maritalminutes.com.

A

t the beginning I worried quite a bit. Although worrying can be warranted, it also can be wasteful. If I only worried about tomorrow I was not doing my best because today was slipping away. No one can be the perfect parent even if you try your hardest to be. All you can do is do your best. To do my best I had to change my mindset and learn to be flexible. Although I will not know what to expect, ultimately does it matter? My sons are my sons and I will love them no matter what. My number one priority is that they are happy. Even if I do not have a clear direction of where we are going, the most important thing is that we are together on this journey (regardless of where we end up). //BY DR. GINA STAFFORD

A road trip through the many and varied Florida school districts

A

s much as I try to connect each education article to the overall theme for the month, I am afraid that this article may be a stretch for “Cars of your Dreams”. So here comes the stretch: this article is based on a road trip which took place in a car that I really like. To be specific, this car took my wife, our three dogs, and myself on a six-hour road trip from our house in South Florida to our new residence in Florida’s capital city. When I worked for Broward Schools, part of my job required driving from school to school, which took me from Deerfield Beach High School in the Northeast to Everglades High School in the Southwest. As I drove from school to school, I would observe the surrounding neighborhoods and imagine what life was like for the communities each school serves. For many reasons, doing this helped me better support schools. So, naturally, as I drove toward my new job with the Florida Department of Education, I stated imagining what life and schools were like in each county that I drove through. Hence, the idea for this article was born.

school districts in the nation. In South Florida, Miami-Dade Public Schools serves about 314,000 students, Broward County Public Schools serves about 250,000 students, and the School District of Palm Beach County serves about 175,000 students. Some districts on the smaller end of the spectrum, each serving between 900 and 1,500 students, include Jefferson County School District, Liberty County School District, and Franklin County School District. I found about fourteen school districts that have fewer students in the entire district than Cypress Bay High School, located in Weston. Each of these districts and schools has its own social, cultural, political, and economic needs. It is interesting to think about the size and scope of the public school system in Florida and with the car of your dreams, you can travel through each one.

//BY MICHAEL DIPIERRO

Michael DiPierro has a decade of experience in education. He currently holds a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and is a Social Studies Supervisor with the Florida Department of Education.

Florida has over 2,500,000 students; fourteen of these have fewer students in the entire district than Weston's Cypress Bay High School.

W

hile it would take thousands of words to write about each public school district in Florida, I can provide an overview in a few hundred words. Florida has approximately 4,200 public schools, over 2,500,000 students, and 74 school districts. The 74 school districts are compromised of a district for each of Florida’s 67 counties, each of the four laboratory schools is a district, and the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, the Okeechobee Youth Development Center, and Florida Virtual School are each their own district. Each laboratory school is associated with one of the following universities: Florida Atlantic University, Florida A & M University, Florida State University, and the University of Florida.

F

lorida has some of the largest school districts in the nation based on the number of students served. In order of size, Miami-Dade Public Schools, Broward County Public Schools, Hillsborough County Public Schools, Orange County Public Schools, and the School District of Palm Beach County are ranked in the top fifteen largest

WHEN'S THE LAST TIME YOU HUGGED YOUR AUTO BODY/REPAIR SHOP FOLKS?

We thought so. While some of these photos are obviously posed (the good folks at Auto Tech & Body don't make it a habit to gather all the employees around and "smile for the camera"), this candid shot, facing page, is exactly how it feels to pick up your vehicle from Chadia and Jay. In the words of one of their many satisfied customers, " Excellent business. Great service and they do great work. Been going to them for years and have never been disappointed. I have recommended friends and family and they also now love this business." Photos, facing page: 1. A smiling staffer goes about his business with a fabulous classic nearby. The number of people who trust these priceless beauties to Auto Tech and Body is a testament in itself. 2. The customer waiting area - we really wished we could have provided a full two-page spread on this area alone. But even more remarkable is... 3. The shop itself. Can you say "immaculate"? Photos, this page: 4. The smiling Auto Tech and Body crew takes a quick, well-deserved photo shoot break. 5. See those logos along the back? Your vehicle is always in good company as well as good hands. 6. Chadia Ghanem, Jay Ghanem, and Jay's lovely wife, Yongmei (known as "Mei"), are deservedly proud of the business they've built. In addition to Auto Tech and Body, the family supports a nearly infinite list of business and community organizations throughout the city.

Jeff Eats knows that at this time of the year…a ton of you guys got a ton of out of town relatives and friends visiting… J. Marks, with one location in Pompano Beach and one location in Fort Lauderdale, is a terrific, reasonably priced American-Style joint to feed everybody at!

- and the food and service have always been right on the money! For what it’s worth, we’ve also eaten in J. Mark’s Fort Lauderdale location (1245 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33304, (954) 390-0770) a good handful of times- same great food and service- just a much bigger drive from the Jeff Eats’ Boca Raton Homestead- so Pompano gets most of our action! Since 1991, I have lived full-time in South Florida and have eaten in so many restaurants (down here), that I now consider myself to be a FOOD EXPERT. To give you some idea as to how many South Florida restaurants I’ve been to, as of December 31, 2014, 441 Italian joints alone have had the pleasure of ringing up my American Express card. Just so you know, I don’t go for the fancy sit-down joints that want you to wear pants and a jacket, but rather places where a pair of shorts, an old tee shirt and a pair of sneakers is considered formal-wear. I don’t know one sauce from another. I also don’t know, or really care, how “dishes” are prepared. What I do know, is when something tastes delicious and I can’t get enough of it.” To read more of Jeff ’s picks, visit jeffeats.com.

Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Charles Catoe, CHT/CHWS, Hyperbaric Safety Officer What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBOT) is a mode of therapy in which the patient breathes 100% oxygen (O2) at pressures greater than normal atmospheric (sea level) pressure. The patient is exposed to the same kind of pressure a SCUBA diver would experience at similar depths. How can Oxygen (O2) be a drug? The elevated pressure and increased percentage (100%) within the hyperbaric chamber results in a 10-15 fold oxygen increase in blood absorption, which help new blood vessels grow and helps the body’s own defenses fight infections that it normally could not. Why does the therapy take so long? TIME is our dose. The deeper you go and longer you stay, the more oxygen is absorbed into your tissues. It takes time to get to the pressure and only then does your treatment time begin; after you finish, we have to decompress back to the surface. What does it feel like? After the door closes, you will hear gas hissing, like a lot of wind, and feel pressure on your ears. The patient must “clear” this pressure by holding their nose and blowing air back through the nose or swallowing some water or tilting your head back. Just like a SCUBA diver or the same sensation you feel on an airplane, prior to take off. Once you reach the max pressure, you will no longer have to clear your ears and may now relax, watch TV, a movie, or even go to sleep. Are there any side effects? Some patients experience changes in eyesight. If your eyesight changes for the better or gets worse; not to worry, this too will return to pre-treatment levels around 3-4 weeks after your treatments end. Please keep all glasses or contact prescriptions the same. Will I get claustrophobic? Our Sechrist 41” chambers are the largest single person chambers made in the world!!! They are constructed in the USA, of thick clear 1.5” acrylic with 3” steel plates and piping that have a pressure capability of 66 feet of sea water. Do not worry; water is not used in our chambers since they are compressed with 100% oxygen. The constant flow of oxygen gives the patient O2 to breathe, cools the chamber, and removes exhaled byproducts of respiration. Once on the bottom, we can control the flow to make it warmer or cooler, you get to decide. So please, tell us if you are hot or cold and we will adjust accordingly. What do I wear or bring to the center? Clothing will be provided to you once you arrive and we ask you wear only cotton undergarments with no perfumes or colognes. No makeup, lip gloss, hair gels or sprays are allowed either. Alcohol or petroleum products are not allowed in the chamber. Basically, we need you right out of your bath or shower!! This is for your safety as well as our staff.

No electronics are allowed in the chamber. Please leave them at home or silence them off vibrate while you are in the chamber. Tasteful movies are allowed and we ask your respect for others when making your choice. What if I want to get out of the chamber? You are the boss; if at any time you wish to come out of the chamber, tell the staff immediately and you will be removed. However, it does take a few minutes to get you out, so please talk to staff while we bring you out and understand your safety is our main concern. How many treatments will I need? Everyone heals differently and the standard course is 20 treatments or one month; we then reassess your progress and decide how best to proceed, some take 60. About Charles Catoe, CHT/CHWS: Charles Catoe, CHWS/CHT is a Certified Hyperbaric Wound Specialist from the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine and sitting CHWS Committee Member; Certified Hyperbaric Technologist from the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology and also an Undersea Hyperbaric Medical Society Hyperbaric Accreditation Surveyor. (namesake) W. Franklin Sheen (1864 - 1917) is credited with giving Pompano Beach its name. He settled early in the West Palm Beach area, and was a surveyor who also was involved in real estate transactions. The story goes that while Sheen was doing survey work in the area, he had a dinner of pompano with one of the local families and not wanting to forget the tasty fish's name and where he had it, wrote "pompano" on his map. Subsequently, this was taken to be the settlement's name. In this photograph, Sheen is seen on his wedding day with his bride, Jessie Griffin Sheen. She was 13 years his junior and survived him by 45 years. Both Franklin and Jessie are buried in West Palm Beach. //THANKS TO DAN HOBBY AND THE POMPANO BEACH HISTORICAL SOCIETY FOR THE PHOTO AND INFORMATION ABOUT OUR CITY'S RICH AND VARIED HISTORY. A passion for the classics

Cars. They are a necessary evil in our communities. With no public transit system to speak of, South Floridians can’t realistically jump onto a tram or subway as a mode of getting from point A to point B. It is for that reason I zip through the neighborhoods in my trusty Honda CRV without a care in the world. Car of my dreams? I would have to say no, but when I think about vehicles…I can’t be pinned down.

It’s an appreciation thing. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati…. names that may be thrown around when discussing dream cars. Just a tad out of my price range, and none would be my preference. An acquaintance just purchased a Maserati last week, and I took a moment to witness him climb in and rev up the engine in his new toy. Was it impressive, well of course…but could I spend that much on a new vehicle? I don’t see it. A few months ago I attended a car show up in Daytona, and my friend and I started that old Ford versus Chevy debate. By the end of the afternoon, I was thoroughly confused. So many cool rat rods, Bel Airs, and vintage pickup trucks to look at. If I only had a one-bedroom house with a six car garage everything would sort itself out. And then I recently learned about this marvelous car auction show, Barrett Jackson. I’m hooked. While new vehicles and technology may appeal to some, I’ve got to tip my proverbial hat to most all vehicles born before, oh, say, 1970.

What makes old vehicles so interesting to me is their character. They are bursting at the seams with character and a uniqueness that cannot be matched with cars being manufactured now. All too often when a new model vehicle comes out, the comment “it looks just like (insert any other car here)” follows the unveiling. I am by no means a vintage car aficionado. But if you ask me to describe a 1934 Ford Coupe or a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, a plethora of descriptive adjectives will start to flow. Classic cars have those distinct chrome grills, flared wheel wells, and never duplicated angles. And the older they get, the more precious and valued they become. Interestingly enough, this brings me to a comparison of cars and people. Ageism, age-defying, anti-aging. Why is it that we try so hard to stay young in America, rather than celebrating the value and appeal of aging gracefully? The stories that come with those years lived can be amazing, if we only take the time to listen to them. So the next time you decide to walk through one of those car shows, take the time to not only appreciate the care and passion that went into the vehicle, but also take a moment to introduce yourself and spend a moment with the owner who has restored it or protected it for all these years. I guarantee the person is just as unique and interesting if you get to know them. //BY CHARLOTTE SUNDQUIST

The year in dream cars

Have you ever wondered why you chose the car you are driving now? Was it because it was a good dealprice wise? Was it the shape and curves of the car that attracted you to it? Was it the performance, the speed and the fact that it is a sport’s car? Was is a “Chick” or “Guy” Magnet? Was your choice clouded by the fact that it will prove your financial status of life at that time? Yes, our cars can be a reflection of our person. Purchasing a car should be a well thought out decision and many times is a deliberate decision taken based on our own personality or should we call it, our Ego! Our first car may be a hand me down from our parents, or the first car we could afford…So, we don’t really think that this is our dream car. Our dream car is the one that represents us as unique individuals with a specific style and demeanor. Our dream car reflects our drive and the ability to present ourselves on the stage of life. It represents who we are or who we want to be… Unconsciously, we have asked ourselves how this car would serve us best. With financial security, choosing a car would be much easier because we won’t have to worry about the price as much as the make and model of the car. This is where our personality traits take center stage: Are we assertive, daring, excitingly flamboyant, family oriented, reserved, a perfectionist, approval seeker, cautious or are you the one who just wants to show the world that you are forever young? So, based on who you are and how you show up in the world (i.e. in your world in front of your friends and business associates), most of the time the car will represent you. Here is a list of the most popular dream cars for this year: 1. 2016 Ferrari 488 Spider: If money is not an issue, then this is the ultimate sports machine for speed, elegance and luxury. The two-piece power-retractable hardtop can be cycled in just 14 seconds. 3.9-liter twinturbo V8 that makes 660 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of peak torque, hit 125 mph in 8.7 ticks and top out at 203 mph. Weighing in at 3,362 pounds, F1-Trac and E-Diff systems, this new SSC2 kit endows the car with even better body control and overall stability. 2. 2016 Chevy Camaro SS: 6.2-liter V8 with a new smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission. Rides comfortably with an impressive average 26 hwy mpg. Amazing handling and performance of this 455-horsepower coupe. It come with a choice of a base 275-horsepower 2.0-liter LT or the 335-horse 3.6-liter V6. 3. 2016 Ford Shelby GT350: 5.2-liter flat-plane V-8, pumps out 526 horses at 7,500 rpm and a muscular 429 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,750 rpm (it redlines at a Ferrari-like 8,250 rpm). first continuously variable MagneRide shocks on the most athletic suspension

and stiffest chassis ever offered on a production Mustang. It has a new integrated driver-control system that tailors throttle response, steering effort, stability control, traction control and ABS braking to driver preference and driving conditions. 4. 2016 Jaguar XF: this sexy/yet commanding car has a refined design coupled with upgraded dynamics, enhanced creature comforts and improved fuel economy 380-horsepower 3.0-liter supercharged V6, 8-speed automatic transmission, 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster, new InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, operates on ultra-fast Ethernet for exceptional data transfer rates. It is equipped with 17-speaker/825-watt Meridian digital sound system 5. 2016 Audi R8: most potent R8 V10 Plus form, this exhilarating two-seater is simply the most powerful and fastest series-production Audi of all time. The R8 benefits from a tasteful reshaping of its lighter aluminum bodywork and carbon fiber accents that give it a more powerful, elegant appearance, LED headlamps, V8 with 19 inch wheels, 532 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, giving it a 0-62 mph sprint time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 201 mph. 6. 2016 Buick Cascada: this compact, front-drive 2+2 convertible is a mildly restyled and enhanced version of the Opel Cascada which was introduced in Europe in 2013. Its sculpted bodywork with a rigid core structure gives it a unique look. It is luxurious and fitted with the latest technology/connectivity front, the with a 7.0-inch color screen navigation, OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot, Siri Eyes Free for Apple iOS6 or newer, lane-departure warning, rear park assist, rearview camera, Rain sense wipers and pop-up bars behind the rear seats that automatically deploy when a potential rollover is sensed. 200-horsepower/1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. 7. 2016 Mercedes- Benz GLE/GLE Coupe: The GLE is the new name for the former M-Class, Mercedes' boxy and muscular mid-size luxury SUV. Meant to compete with the BMW X6, the highly contoured Coupe focuses on performance over utility. GLE450 AMG Coupe uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 that makes 362 horsepower, while the brawny AMG GLE63 S Coupe is endowed with a 5.5-liter turbocharged V8 that corrals 577 hp. It is Its 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds is pretty impressive for an SUV. It doesn’t come cheap since it is priced between $60K -$110 K. 8. 2016 Lexus GS F: this is a beautiful, sporty model 5.0-liter V8 as the RC F. Making 467 horsepower at 7,100 rpm -- 200 shy of redline -- and a stout 389 lb-ft of torque between 4,800-5,600 revs, it employs the static balancing all F-spec engines get with a new dynamic process to ensure even smoother operation. With 8-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic transmission, it also features a full Manual mode that holds a selected cog through a corner and completely locks out the torque converter in 2nd through 8th gears for a more direct feel. This 4,034 lb sedan goes from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and protracted mashing of the accelerator pedal gets you an exhilarating rush of power that leads to an electronically limited top end of 168 mph. 9. 2016 Honda Civic Coupe: this vehicle received an award due to its excellent powertrain lineup and classy interior. It has a lower overall height and the sloping roofline that leads to a tidier rear end with bolder styling. Honda has always been a dependable car, priced right to the everyday consumer and is nicely designed with the luxury, comfort and safety features. Photo of the Audi R8 V10 plus © 2016 by AUDI AG

So, did any of these cars/vans or trucks pique your interest? Are you more of the Kia driver during the week and a Porsche on the weekend? Are you that person that consider your car your freedom to drive away into the sunset or just the car that will transport you from point A to point B? Are you rather the “fast and furious” driver or are you the practical person who would rather drive hybrid or an electric car to decrease our carbon footprint on the planet? Well, you would know where you will fit best- personality wise… Now, does your car reflect you or would I know the kind of car you drive by meeting you? I personally am a car lover… I like speed. I also am a family man. I use the Toyota Sienna as our family car and the Porsche for my weekend car. I hope that you are driving your dream car. If not, we hope that you will have an opportunity to drive and hopefully purchase it in the near future.

10. 2016 Hyundai Tuscon: From its striking "Fluidic Sculpture 2.0" design to higher-strength steel, advanced safety features and a more efficient engine, the Tucson enters its third generation with so much appeal, priced right to sell and is a good family car (2-row, 5-passengers). 1.6-liter turbocharged and direct-injected 4-cylinder mated to a 7-speed twin-clutch automatic. 11. 2016 Cadillac ATS-V: fitted with Corvette-derived engines and performance parts. This stylish, cutting-edge model's mission is to attract a far younger generation of buyers competing with the BMW 3 Series. 464 horsepower, 3.6-liter twin-turbo, 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds. Both the 5-passenger sedan and 4-passenger coupe can be had with an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual. Cadillac has finally created a compact sports sedan that can more than hold its own with the best of what Europe offers. 12. 2016 Nissan Titan XD: for the truck lovers in you, the handsome Titan XD does not feel like a big truck when you drive. Its 6-speed automatic transmission, 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque made the power thrust off the line steady and linear, but decisive. This truck is designed to tow more than 12,300 pounds, can carry nearly 2,100 pounds of payload. 13. 016 BMW X1: 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The 8-speed Aisin automatic transmission carries over. BMW says the X1 is good for 0-60 mph acceleration of 6.3 seconds and has a top speed of 130 mph. This year, BMW X1 comes with a bolder exterior look that features a larger split kidney design and more upright appearance; the interior features trim upgrades and a choice of either a standard 6.5-inch center console screen or a larger 8.8-inch display. This is the ultimate family car combining luxury and comfort while driving in style.

GET SMART

working it

What does your dream business look like?

Have you ever sat back and asked yourself this question? I mean really sat back and closed your eyes and thought about it. I do it all of the time. I know how many offices I’d like to have, I know the number of employees I’d like to have and I even know how many hours I want to work – it’s that definitive (for me at least). Thinking and dreaming are great but what happens when you’re done and your eyes are open? Where did all of those amazing images, ideas and thoughts go? Let’s talk about mapping out what your dream business looks like!

Your Dreams Can Be Reality I know it sounds cliché but it’s true. It has to be more than a dream; you have to find a way to capture those images and put them somewhere important. Vision boards are an amazing tool for all ages. Unfortunately, the average business owner does not have the time (nor do they make the time) to create a vision board. It’s as simple as placing your ideas for your dream business on a bulletin board in your office. It has to be visible to you on a daily basis. As you accumulate pictures, remove the pictures that come true and repeat. Think about it, if you see the same images on a daily basis it starts to create a shift in your mind. I never play lotto BUT when I saw that Powerball amount increase every week on a billboard everyday on my way to work - I finally bought in. Build Something Solid How many people want to work for the rest of their lives? I’m sure you’re not jumping at the chance to say yes. Building something solid takes a ton of thinking, dreaming, mapping and committing. If you follow these steps you’re well on your way to “living the dream” so to speak. Keep in mind that everyone has a different idea (definition) of what a dream business is and what “living the dream” means. Working less and traveling more with my family is what I’m working towards. If I understand the goal or end result all I have to do is map out a vision (strategy) that backs into my goal. What is the end result for you? Do you want to sell your business? Do you want to be a franchise? Do you want to work from your beach house in Malibu? How are you working towards that end result or goal to build something solid? Everything Takes Time Whenever we turn on the TV, read the paper or scroll through our social media feeds we see what appears to be “instant celebrity success”, from Bethany Frankel to Oprah. What we don’t see is the failure, the sacrifice, the loss, the thinking, the dreaming and the hard work. Building your dream business (or life) takes time. So, either buckle up and enjoy the journey or start looking for a 9 to 5 with a great salary, 401k and vacation time. // BY TEANA MCDONALD

When did you know without a doubt that you wanted to act, write, host and produce? Well, it's funny. As a little girl I always used to put on shows using my siblings and cousins. I used to daydream about it. As I became older I focused on business. In fact, all my internships in college were in Georgetown, Washington, DC at brokerage firms. Then one day a man waved me over while I was walking home from the gym. I thought he needed directions. It was BB King! He and his crew asked me to join him for dinner. He told me when I graduated I should move to Los Angeles and pursue acting. It was wild. Then two weeks later, I stopped to grab a slice of pizza on the way home from class and noticed there was a huge line. The owner grabbed me and brought me to the front and said, "You're with Will Smith and his crew right?" I said no and then a man walked up and said, "but you should be." Will was in DC for work and they said the same thing - Move to LA when you graduate and here's our info. You should be an actress. I began trying to conceive of leaving behind a prestigious career to move to LA to become an actress and thought, gosh this is nuts right? A week later, the manager at the brokerage firm I was working at called me into his office. I was prepared to get a job offer. What I wasn't prepared for was him telling me, "Nicole, have you ever thought of being an actress? I know it sounds weird but think about it." This all happened in the same month. By that point I began to realize maybe this was part of my path.

What inspires you as an entertainer? I love roles where you see strong, powerful women. It doesn't matter what sector they work in. We've seen them as attorneys, FBI agents, lawyers, business people, heck we even see them as mothers, but I love to see them and am excited to see more and more of them. And candidly, if they happen to play these roles with great style I'm really pulled in.

When did you realize you had reached your goals as an entertainer? Well... Last year my word for the year was RECEIVE. I pushed myself to receive every opportunity in front of me (that wasn't ethically questionable). I cannot believe what an amazing year 2015 was for me. I haven't reached my goals as an entertainer yet but I've reached a mindset that's bringing me there and making the journey fascinating.

What was your favorite role to date and why? In regards to acting roles, I'll keep you posted. There's some amazing things in the works. When it comes to hosting, I've interviewed so many interesting people. This past year I'd have to say Gary Busey and Tito Ortiz really stand out. Clearly other people really liked the Tito Ortiz interview as well because I'm covering some of the MMAs this year. How awesome is that!?!

What do you most enjoy about your career? There are so many things I truly love about my career. I feel so blessed. I wake up excited about my work. I feel stimulated by it. It's always new. Personally, I need to feel like I'm always growing and not stagnant. For me, this vertical easily allows that. There's a constant flush of new people, new concepts, even emotions to explore. // BY MISTY SCHWARTZ
