They needed to verify if they are compliant with the client contracts. Ken and myself realized that verifying these trades was as difficult as to generate them automatically. We told this to Sherri and she went back to the other executives and told them what we wanted to do. The President of the company said that there was no way that this could be done. Sherri supported us and with the help of an outsourcing company in Targu Mures that I met, we created this software. The name of the software was FARM. And this was the beginning. This system became the trade generation system of this company, and even now this is the software that generates their trades.

Meanwhile the company scaled up and now is a company that has 2000 employees and invests over 100 Billion USD in many countries in the world. Based on this success, we decided to create a company in Cluj; Recognos Romania was born in 2000, together with a former classmate from Liceul de Informatica, Romeo Macaria. In this way, we built a team in Cluj that even today supports Fisher Investments (an other companies) with multiple systems that cover most of their software needs especially on the stock exchange transaction generation side. Natalia Ghilascu: What were the most challenging efforts and struggles you made to reach a gold career in US? George Roth: When you create a company, you

We learned the hard way that the most difficult thing is to “bootstrap” a business, i.e. to use your own money, don’t use investors. Most of the American entrepreneurs know from the beginning not to invest their own money, but look for investors. We didn’t understand this and starting new companies was extremely difficult. We found different partners for our startups who didn’t have the same motivation that we did. And this created a lot of problems. We built a great team in Cluj, and with the help of our employees we passed most of the hardships and adapted the company to go over all the challenges that we encountered. Natalia Ghilascu: What motivated and drove you to the Artificial Intelligence techniques and NLP? George Roth: The research and the interest for
new technologies was induced in me by the activity at the Territorial Computing Center in Cluj where I worked for the first 10 years of my career. There, under the leadership of Dr. Vasile Peteanu, we had an Operations Research seminar where I learned about graphs, computational geometry, algorithm theory and other advanced domains. And these became my permanent interest. In the US, in 2008, I started to learn about Semantic Technology and NLP, which are part of what we call today AI.
I tried to apply it at Recognos in our startups. At Recognos, using Semantic Technology, we developed a data extraction platform from documents, where we extensively used specifically NLPl. We didn’t use Machine Learning, but we created some heuristics for self-developing systems that we used in the data extraction process. This data extraction platform was acquired by UiPath in 2018, together with the team.And now, after I joined UiPath in 2018, I have the chance to work in this domain for one of the most successful

Am avut norocul că o altă profesoară a înființat un laborator de coroziune și căuta un asistent universitar pentru a forma un grup. Așa am intrat într-un domeniu foarte interesant, în electrochimie, care are foarte multe aplicații în coroziune, senzori și în medicină. Am lucrat pe un microscop de forță atomică și am făcut experimente la nivel atomic. Inițial, am crezut că ei m-au acceptat pentru doctorat, dar nu a fost să fie așa. Ei practic te iau cu un an mai înainte ca să vadă dacă te poți acomoda la sistemul lor, pentru că este un sistem mai deosebit, în special pentru femei. Eram unica femeie între bărbați acolo. În 1996, la facultate nu aveau nici măcar toaletă pentru femei. A trebuit să merg într-o altă clădire ca să mă duc la toaletă. Totuși eu, ca cercetător străin, nu m-am simțit niciodată discriminată. Am fost foarte bine primită, și am fost chiar ajutată să-mi cresc fata mea care avea 10 ani când a venit în Japonia. Fata mea a ajuns duminică în Osaka și luni dimineața s-a dus la școala japoneză, nu internațională. Au încercat să o integreze cât mai repede. A fost o experiență extraordinară pentru amândouă. Ne-am gândit să aplicăm nano-tehnologia și la epurarea apei. În prezent lucrez la un proiect European cu România, pe care l-am câștigat pentru România. Sunt foarte mulți oameni creativi, care au idei creative pornind de la cele mai mici probleme, de toate zilele, până la cele tehnologice, mai complexe și mai soficticate. Mulți nu știu că partea inovativă a ideilor lor trebuie brevetată. Dacă un specialist nu-și protejează ideile, acestea se fură și este un păcat. Fiind și Președinta Academiei Româno-Americane de Arte și Științe, anul trecut, de exemplu, la Cluj am reușit să aducem la Congresul ARA de la Universitatea Babeș-Bolyai din Cluj Napoca un specialist de la Oficiul de Stat pentru Invenții și Mărci (OSIM)), care lucrează și la Oficiul Uniunii Europene de Proprietate Intelectuală. Prelegerea a avut ca scop informarea cercetătorilor cu privire la metodele de protejare a proprietății intelectuale. În momentul în care ideea brevetată are un potențial mare să fie comercializată, un investitor poate să cumpere licența și atunci vorbim de foarte mulți bani, de care poate beneficia inventatorul, universitatea, compania, sau țara. Spectatorii vor fi plăcut surprinși să vizioneze filme nu numai din România, dar și din alte țări europene cum ar fi Germania, Ucraina, Bulgaria și Republica Moldova.

I.V: Care este tema festivalului și cine vine la festival anul acesta? O.B: Tema festivalului este ”Stories OFF the
Wall”, dedicată aniversării a 30 de ani de la căderea comunismului. Anul acesta avem 22 de filme. Genurile sunt foarte variate: scurtmetraje, documentare, filme artistice, comedii, drame. Toate aceste filme împreună au obținut mai mult de 30 de premii, ceea ce atestă calitatea și standardele profesionale ale festivalului. Eu sunt foarte bucuroasă că am reușit să obținem dreptul de a arăta filmul lui Corneliu Porumboiu ”La Gomera”, care va fi o premieră în Statul Washington.

Am reușit însă să găsim un înlocuitor în timp util, și să confirmăm prezența celor opt invitați speciali: Florin Piersic (actor), Mona Nicoară (regizoare), Teodora Totoiu (regizoare), Ion Borș (actor și regizor). Vor mai fi prezenți doi critici de film Monica Filimon și Robert Horton, împreună cu reprezentanții fundației UiPath, Raluca Negulescu-Balaci și Codruța Iovănaș, care vor iniția o discuție despre importanța accesului la educație, după proiecția documentarului « Toto și surorile lui » de Andrei Nanau. Personajul principal din acest documentar, Toto Horvat, a participat ca voluntar la ARCS Summer Camp anul acesta, cu suportul acestei fundații din România. I.V: Anul acesta aduceți și filme din Republica Moldova. Putem vorbi puțin despre asta? O.B: Anul acesta, într-adevăr, este deosebit, pentru că facem o încercare, care a început cu două ediții în urmă, când am avut un film documentar bulgăresc, cu invitați din comunitatea bulgară locală. Neam dat seama că această deschidere a fost foarte bine primită de comunitatea esteuropeană din Seattle. Sunt comunități care nu au festivaluri de film proprii. Și atunci ne-am gândit că ar fi minunat ca festivalul nostru să poată găzdui din când în când filme din alte țări est-europene. Din acest motiv, am selecționat un film din Ucraina ”Donbas”, unul din Bulgaria ”Tata” și un pachet de patru scurtmetraje din Republica Moldova, printre care ”Plus Minus Unu”, regizat de Ion Borș. Mai avem și coproducții cu Franța, Germania, și alte țări europene. Ne bucurăm că vom avea, pentru prima oară, filme din Republica Moldova, și că regizorul și actorul Ion Borș va fi prezent la festival. Ion Borș, s-a născut în anul 1990, și mi-a mărturisit că este într-un fel « copilul căderii comunismului », dat fiind că toată viața lui a decurs sub semnul tranziției după comunism.

Despite the cultural differences, music can be this thing that we can all connect with, especially when it helps patients relieve their stress. After his wife died of a lung disease, he found his calling to perform music for other patients.

Stephen is 81 years old and he is a volunteer player at Duke University Hospital. When Stephen introduced himself, it was a very formal email, very regal and old school. He sent his CV, which was from many decades ago and he had a PhD in engineering. He has written papers and he has six patents and all these titles were sent to me with a copy of his degree from Transylvania and a translation of it. When William Dawson, Performing Arts Coordinator of Duke met him for the first time, he thought who is this guy trying to become a volunteer at the hospital? “I'm from the city of Brașov in Transylvania, Romania. I was seven years old when I started to play piano. At the beginning, I was really reluctant, but after three years I started to like it and it was for the rest of my life. I asked her to be my wife, and on March 2nd, 1963 we got married. We had our first daughter. In Brasov, in my inactive town, you didn't have too much liberty, to do what you want to do, and you always had to control

what you say. They wanted to make me a member of the Communist Party but I didn't want to become a member of this party. I thought about the day when I would have an opportunity to go to the West. I wanted to go to the United States. On July 6th, 1970 we came to JFK airport”, says Stephen. They have two daughters. The first one became an engineer. The other one works in financing. Stephen feels good because they are very happy. “My wife, she was a remarkable human being, very intelligent. She was a good engineer too. She retired at 55 to be a good grandmother. She didn’t have any treatment, no medication for it. That was the tragedy in the family. MELAS is also called Mitochondrial Encephalopathy, Lactic acidosis, and Strokelike episodes. The stroke episodes, in general, are a ProQuest type of disorder. It is always transmitted from the mother and almost always can be passed down to future offspring with potentially little or less mutations.

Doctors say he has had a lot of loss and that he carries that empathy and that reflection with him when he plays a piano for other

people. He's the best musician who's ever performed at Duke University Hospital. “He takes the schedule very seriously. He acts like it's his job and I'm not paying him anything to do this. I added up his hours. He volunteered over 300 hours in one year playing the piano. It's amazing. Six to 800 people an hour walk by the piano. Six to 800 people is like a sold out show at the cat's cradle, so you're playing a sold out show, one person at a time. Stefan is probably the most listened to musician on the Duke university campus,” added William Dawson.
He is scheduled to play every Monday at 12 pm in the hospital and another couple of hours at the cancer center. The rest of the week I have windows which I could come and play and they told me that they appreciate my music. I was really very happy, most interest. It's taken by my originals compositions. I was surprised, `` added Stephen. When you compose a piece of music, it is inspired by your real feelings, it's a special thing. He's got some of that old school Europe in it. It's a little minor key. They sound like some of the pain and the struggles that he's gone through.
“There's a story and it asks for some attention, but it's not a sad story. He's not using it as an excuse or a crutch when you hear him performing his original pieces. It's just hopeful and it has class. He's a great father. He's a great friend. He's a great volunteer. I look up to him. I want to be just like staffing 50 years if I can be, `` William Dawson says. Stephen tries to forget about what is pain. He has good medicine and also some kind of a payment. Stefan sees Duke as an extension of his family. He is a part of this team by playing music for other patients. Everyone loves having him at this University.

Mostly, because its main character, Rada, looked so similar to me that my nickname, when I was growing up, was Gypsy. I hated my nickname but I loved Rada, because she was a mysterious fortuneteller and a free spirted rebel. I wished I could travel with her tribe from place to place: at home everywhere but, at the same time, not at home anywhere. Not even the fortuneteller could predict that so many years later I would find myself in America, feeling like a gypsy again: at home in America.

There is one thing that makes me feel right at home in America: the holidays. It all starts with Thanksgiving. The most American holiday of all, but the most homie and comforting holidays of all, as well. I love everything about it: the preparation, the busyness of it, the gathering of the family for just dinner. Thanksgiving it’s about one thing multiplied to three: food as a main dish, food as a light dish and a food group of its own: the pies. Homemade cooking is a religion back home and a meticulous family enterprise, well thought of at least three days ahead of time, where nothing is left to chance. The menus are a mile long, because, you know, we have to cook for an army. Just in case, if some third cousin shows up besides the brothers, sisters, kids and grandmas and other guests we already invited. But many American families do the same, so there are so many similarities between our two cultures when it comes to holidays. Starting with the turkey. Well, not exactly. A baked turkey is not the most common dish at home, OCT-NOV

but in my mind it’s as close as it can get to a baked chicken, so it will do. But, my God, potatoes? Don’t even get me started! There are so many potato dishes back home, that I don’t know where even to begin. More than that, there is no holiday without potatoes from where I’m from. We boil, fry, bake, then cut, smash and shred the damn potatoes in every dish possible. Potato salad, anybody? Check. We call it with a fancy Italian name Olivie, only God knows why, but we do. Mashed potatoes with gravy? Check. But our gravy is more colorful because we love adding veggies to it. Potato casserole? Check. Though, we like to baked them with spices in a crock pot, rather than in a baking pan, to keep the juiciness and flavor in it. Regardless of similarities, I can’t help but compare the way the holidays used to be back home with the way they are now for me in America. It’s only natural for them to be different. Something’s better, something’s hard to get used to. Like why, why, do Americans put sweet barbecue sauce on meet? Can somebody explain

Angela Chirila is a Moldavian Denverbased artist and author who studied English and Italian at USM (State University of Moldova). After finishing the university, she lived in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and then moved to the United States where she has lived for the past eight years. She started painting in Denver six years ago and hasn’t looked back. Angela’s exhibition, the “Angela + Irina Art Show” is currently on display at the Gypsy House on South Broadway where her work is displayed alongside Russian artist Irina Lukina.

Cristina Bejan: How does your Moldavian identity and origins shape your art? Angela Chirilă: Moldova is renowned for its beautiful women and nature, which are both big influences for me. You will see that most of my work are portraits of women and their relationship with nature: water, flowers and much more. Cristina Bejan: Why did you choose Denver as your artistic home-base? Angela Chirilă: I was captivated by Denver’s beauty and I absolutely love the mountains. During my first years here, I was in the mountains every weekend. I also found a welcoming and flourishing Moldavian community here, that has felt like a family.
I want my paintings to make people dream a little, to escape from reality. I would love to open an art school, to teach art. I would love to write a book about how to become an artist because I am a self-taught artist. To be an artist is not easy.

Cristina Bejan: Who is your greatest artistic influence? Angela Chirilă: I absolutely love contemporary painters. Charmaine Olivia, the Californian-based painter, is my greatest influence. I am also a self-taught painter and focus on female portraits just like Olivia. Poznan-born painter Karol Bak is a great inspiration to me as well because of his use of surrealism and fantasy. His paintings are characterized by elusiveness and surrealism and bring their viewers into a dreamlike world.

Am ajuns ca la sfârșitul anului 2007, încercând să obțin mai mulți bani, prin intermediul unor cunoscuți care lucrau în domeniul transportului, să găsesc o oportunitate să plec în Statul Washington, unde mi-am luat permisul de conducere CDL.Iar din acel moment, timp de trei luni am reușit să cutreier Statul American. Ulterior am ajuns în statul Illinois unde m-am și stabilit cu traiul, deținând la acel moment permisul de conducere CDL și doar 20 de dolari în buzunar. I.V. Cum ți-a venit ideea de a întemeia propria afacere? M.S: Bineînțeles că nu a fost ușor la început; la un moment dat am ajuns să montez parchet (flooring). Nu eram obișnuit cu acest statut, îmi doream mai mult și eram hotărât ca într-o zi să ajung să fac ceva care-mi place și să nu depind de nimeni. Așa am început să analizez atent cum se lucrează cu oamenii și cum se poate obține contracte de la o companie americană. In felul ăsta mi-a apărut instinctul de antreprenor. M-am gândit în sinea mea că aș putea să mă descurc și pe cont propriu, mai ales că stăpâneam destul de bine limba engleză. In mai puțin de un an am înființat propria companie de pus parchet (flooring). Am cumpărat o dubă (van) cu echipament și am devenit contractor, direct în domeniul dat, în care am activat în jur de 3 ani.
I.V. Pe lângă motivație, majoritatea afacerilor au nevoie și de un buget bine pus la punct, în special la început. Cum ți-a reușit la acest capitol?M.S. Banii au venit prin multă muncă și motivație. Pe timp de criză, unui șofer i se achită doar 32 de cenți pe milă, așa că ajunge la un venit de $5000-$6000 pe lună. În serviciile de montare a parchetului câștigam minimum $10000, dar uneori ajungeam și la $15000 pe lună. Lucram foarte mult, mă trezeam la 5 dimineața, luam joburile și deseori finisam munca la 12 noaptea. Povestea a continuat doi ani, până m-am epuizat fizic. Am avut norocul că în 2010 industria de transport a început a ieși din recesiune și s-au deschis noi oportunități. Banii îi aveam deja adunați de la mica mea afacere de parchet, așa că doar la 25 ani am reușit să-mi cumpăr primul camion. Peste 5 zile de la achiziție am ieșit în cursă, eram deja propriul meu șef. Mi-a luat mai puțin de un an ca să înțeleg cum se lucrează în industrie, și care este specificul unui șofer. Așa am ajuns să achiziționez alte patru camioane, iar la momentul actual numărul acestora depășește cifra 100. I.V: Care e diferența între a fi un șofer și a conduce o companie mare de transport? M.S: Cu siguranță că sunt lucruri diferite, vorbim de alte atribuții și bineînțeles de alte responsabilități. Un șofer trebuie să conducă bine, să se organizeze pe sine însuși și să aibă grijă ca să OCT-NOV

fiie în siguranță la drum. In cazul în care se întâmplă o defecțiune, are loc un accident sau apare vreo problemă, de acestea se ocupă administratorul/șeful firmei.
E cu totul diferit când ești responsabil pentru 5 camioane, pentru că trebuie să faci totul absolut singur, începând cu încărcatul șoferilor și pâna la rezolvarea problemelor tehnice sau salarizare. Ai mai mulți oameni pentru care ești responsabil financiar.E o experiență prin care trebuie să treci: de la 5 camioane la 10, de la 50 la o 100. Felul de organizare și structura de business se schimbă, când ai o sută de camioane nu poți fi disponibil pentru o sută de șoferi. Așa ajungi să ai nevoie de persoane din diferite domenii și astfel să deschizi mai multe departamente bine definite (contabilitate,vânzări, resurse umane, marketing, etc). I.V: Care sunt calitățile necesare ale unui șofer pentru fi angajat la compania Dvs? M.S: Condițiile de angajare sunt dictate de companiile de asigurări. Companii care nu vor să-și asume riscuri și astfel solicită ca șoferii să aibă minim doi ani de experiență. Alt aspect important pentru un șofer este profesionalismul, atitudinea și accidentele minime sau lipsa totală a acestora. Deoarece se ia în considerare registrul de siguranță (safety record), adică ne ajută foarte mult și baza Departamentului de Autovehicule unde sunt înregistrate toate accidentele șoferilor. Al treilea criteriu este verificarea locului de muncă anterior. Examinăm în ce relații a fost șoferul cu compania anterioară și în ce fel de circumstanțe a plecat. I.V: Putem vorbi de etică de muncă la Nova Lines? M.S: Pentru a avea o echipă puternică, profesionistă și integră este nevoie de a stabili o listă de reguli la locul de muncă. Dacă angajatul este punctual, respectuos, prietenos cu colegii, profesionist în ceea ce face, sau dacă se implică în procesul muncii, cu siguranță va rămâne în echipa noastră. Deci, pot spune sincer și cu mândrie, compania noastră are etică și este transparentă. Asta se referă atât la persoanele care fac munca de birou, cât și la șoferi. Acest aspect contează foarte mult pentru mine și m-a influențat și la practicarea sportului Taekwondo. I.V: Taekwondo este o artă marțială care implică disciplină. Cât de mult te-a influențat acest sport? Și cum ai reușit să combini studiile cu sportul? M.S: Aș spune că Taekwondo mi-a format personalitatea pe care o am acum. Recunosc, am avut mai multă disciplină sportivă decât disciplină la studii. Din păcate, în Republica Moldova nu avem parte de un sistem de învățământ bine gândit care să corespundă realității actuale, a economiei de piață. Ceea ce învăț nu este ceea ce vreau să știu, sau ceea ce m-ar fi interesat. Prin urmare, ajungi să fii obligat să înveți lucruri care nu-ți vor fi utile pe viitor, în locul a ceea ce vrei să știi sau ai fi curios să afli.Când eram elev, mă duceam la școală doar pentru prezență, dar la sport mă duceam de plăcere. Așa am ajuns să particip la majoritatea competițiilor care au avut loc în perioada 1998-2007 și de fiecare dată reușeam să ajung pe primele 3 locuri, atât în țară, cât și peste hotare. Practic, nu au fost zile să nu mă simt bine, ori să nu am bună dispoziție; nu conta dacă plouă sau ninge, mă duceam și făceam sport, indiferent de circumstanțe. În privința asta, eram foarte disciplinat, simțeam o responsabilitate, iar în prezent, disciplina din sport o aplic și la locul de muncă.

ILEANA RIZESCU Ileana Rizescu și-a obținut cetățenia americană de mai bine de cinci ani, după o lungă așteptare de emigrare în SUA. A început să descopere cultura americană în 1995, când a venit pentru prima oară la un curs de scurtă durată în Huntsville, Alabama. Acum este matematiciană la Universitatea Pepperdine din Malibu, California, unde educă noi generații de americani. FEBRUARIE

Irina VanPatten: Vă rugăm să vă introduceți cititorilor noștri. Cine este Ileana Rizescu? Ileana Rizescu: Sunt o româncă din București. Am terminat facultatea de matematică și informatică. După aceea am urmat un masterat în sisteme informatice. După ce am divorțat, am câștigat o bursă pentru Huntsville, AL pentru o lună și jumătate în 1995. De la universitate mi-au spus că trebuie să continui studile în Statele Unite. Am aplicat la câteva universități unde am susținut examenele de rigoare și am câștigat o bursă completă pentru doi ani la Universitatea Pepperdine. Un an învățat la Pepperdine în Malibu, CA, iar al doilea an am fost în Germania.După ce am terminat programul de Business Internațional, am obținut un loc de muncă la Universitatea Pepperdine; ei mi-au rezolvat toate vizele de care aveam nevoie; lucrez și acum aici ca Senior Systems Analyst (Analist de Sisteme Informatice). Uite așa am ajuns în America. Acuma sunt cetățean american de 5-6 ani. I.V: Și cum vă place viața din America? I.R: A fost o experiență foarte interesantă. Am evoluat mult și am înțeles bine experiența de a trăi, de a învăța și de a lucra în trei țări: România, Statele Unite și Germania. Mi-am dat seama de elementele care sunt permanente în ființa umană, că sunt peste tot aceleași, și că te schimbi în funcție de cultura și mediul social.
I.V. Cum ați fost Dvs influențată de mediul în care vă aflați? I.R: Fiecare persoană este compusă din aceleași nevoi de bază umane. Se simte nevoia de exprimare, sunt aspectele morale și acestea sunt cam peste tot la fel. De pildă, corupția n-a fost inventată în România și nu există numai în România. Ca și fenomen, există peste tot. Este o parte din firea umană. Pe de altă parte, există nevoia de iubire, apartenența de mediul social, nevoia de familie. Acestea sunt peste tot la fel. I.V: Este vreo diferență dacă vă schimbați mediul de trai? I.R: Dacă îți schimbi mediul, ai capacitatea de a te exprima într-o anumită direcție. De pildă, mediul american este un mediu foarte propice pentru antreprenoriat, pentru a câștiga bani, pentru a deveni competitiv și a lucra la un nivel ridicat de calitate. Asta face ca exprimarea profesională și căutarea excelenței în exprimarea socială a capacităților și talentelor tale să fie pozitiv influențată. I.V: Cum v-a influențat personal schimbarea mediului? I.R: Plimblându-mă dintr-o țară în alta, desigur că am fost influențată. Am învățat de la americani să fiu mult mai practică, fiindcă ei sunt foarte practici. Au o capacitate de a se concentra la ce vor să realizeze în viață și nu se lasă doborâți așa rapid. Ei au un fel de rezistență. Dacă te uiți la cum se comportă ei după dezastrele naturale, după ce le OCT-NOV

MINUTUL DE HOLLYWOOD TUDOR PETRUȚ
NEVOIA DE TELEVIZIUNE ÎN DIASPORA AMERICANĂ Nevoia de televiziune din mass-media americană și nu numai a pierdut din credibilitate, prestigiu și audiență implicându-se ideologic într-un discurs politizat, propagandistic și din ce în ce mai des lipsit de echidistanță. Impactul presei digitale și a mijloacelor de socializare asupra publicațiilor dar și a posturilor TV de știri generează speculații asupra reducerii și a posibilei dispariții a mass-media tradițională. Pentru diversele comunități românești împrăștiate-n cele patru colțuri ale Statelor Unite, mass-media de limba română e o necesitate a continuității culturale, a unui schimb de informații și experiențe, o punte de legătură cu România. În timp, din motive variate, presa de limba română s-a comprimat în câteva apariții care au reușit să se autogestioneze. Cele câteva încercări de a lansa emisiuni de radio au eșuat, cu mici excepții.
În sfarsit, un grup de profesioniști a participat la realizarea unor emisiuni, complementând celelalte voci și imagini din întreaga lume. Numai că o întreprindere de o asemenea amploare trebuie susținută, moral și material. Artiștii și profesioniștii TV sunt extrem de darnici, numai că își pot oferi serviciile voluntar pentru puțin timp. Trebuie să înțelegem că ei trăiesc din asta și indiferent cât de mult ar iubi cultura româno-americană, prioritatea este să activeze cu succes în showbiz. Producătorii, la randul lor, nu au buzunare fără fund, mulți au cariere și familii și buget și timp limitat pentru cauze nobile. ArcaTV ar trebui să fie un proiect colectiv, profesional, coerent și reprezentativ pentru toți românii. Autoritățile de la București nu s-au implicat, deși media de limba română în străinătate este printre prioritățile ministerului de resort. Sponsorii locali nu au interes financiar, sau nu discern importanța culturală a unei televiziuni românești.
Nimic nu a fost mai discutat decât necesitatea unor posturi TV create de români pentru o audiență românească. Nu au fost prea mulți profesioniști care să participe la asemenea încercări, cu mici excepții (unele amatoricești) nu a existat un program TV coerent al comunităților românești. Nici măcar în capitala mondială a industriei de divertisment din Hollywood, unde de curand s-a strans un activ și entuziast grup de artiști români.Unde mass-media americană este la limita supraviețuirii, radio televiziunile etnice funcționează cu succes. Nu și la români. Am pierdut startul.
Asociațiile și fundațiile din comunitățile românești nu au puterea financiară de a susține studiouri teritoriale. Cu tot entuziasmul și devotamentul producătorului Lucian Blaga și al colegilor noștri, ArcaTV nu poate să aibă, prin aportul unui restrâns număr de pasionați, o necesară continuitate și valoare artistică.Există printre români o reală nevoie de televiziune în limba română, care să nu fie parte din grila de program a televiziunilor din țară, care pot fi urmărite digital oriunde în lume, care să le prezinte bucuriile și pasurile, să-i țină uniți și cu celelalte comunități românești și cu țara.
Când un profesionist al televiziunii, Lucian Blaga, a lansat din Houston, TX postul în limba română ArcaTV, impactul a fost imediat. Emisiunile au încorporat știri și reportaje din comunitățile românești din întreaga lume. Prin intermediul unor producători locali, emisiunile “ArcaTV: în direct Los Angeles” au fost foarte populare. Colaborarea cu TVRi la emisiunea “ArcaTV: în direct din București” a fost încurajatoare.
De fiecare dată când am filmat pentru “ArcaTV: în direct din Los Angeles”, toți cei implicați au fost foarte mândri și încântați de prezența lor în emisiune. Am fost solicitați să filmăm în multe ocazii, românii din California fiind extrem de activi și sunt atât de multe povești de succes de spus. Comunitățile și-au găsit o voce și o imagine reprezentativă. Din păcate, a fost doar pentru un an
