SciLea nnce guage and Culture Fair The Zaman Science Fair basically put on display everything that is best about learning. Being a new teacher and experiencing my first Science Fair, my impressions were full of joy. Though tiring I couldn't help but be impressed by the student volunteers and the responsibility they showed in putting together fun games and even spending some of their own money to make them work. Also I was struck seeing the interactions between outside students and Zaman Students -- how patient and kind-hearted the volunteers were explaining the rules of the games and helping visitors enjoy their experience. That's what impressed me most -- The smiles exchanged between volunteers and outside students when they would win a prize. I thought Zaman was also generous in providing KFC everyday and also being patient with everyone. I'm sure many volunteers can now understand that one of the best ways to learn and have fun is to teach! Jason Beasley

ZAMAN UNIVERSITY IS ONE YEAR OLD

General Information about Zaman University The current trend in university education in Cambodia is that students are not satisfied with studying at just one university. Most of them enroll in a second university either in the morning or afternoon. This gives result to inefficient university education experience for students, companies which look for graduates who are well-equipped with strong academic, critical thinking and teamwork skills and the government which is determined to open ways in producing quality human resources. Zaman University is determined to change the trend by focusing on international university education experience in which students spend at least 40 hours for their studies per week (lectures, tutorials, projects, assignments, lab etc.), and develop critical thinking, reasoning, presentation, teamwork and self learning skills, providing qualified academic staff to ensure the quality of degree programs, and providing modern facilities which consolidate the process of learning. We are living in a global world. Our students must also have skills to survive in this global world. The university currently has around 10 different nationalities studying or working. They get to know each other’s lifestyle, culture and values better each day. In the past year, Zaman University worked hard to improve its facilities and infrastructure, to recruit high quality teaching staff, to prepare peaceful and comfortable environment for students, and to develop international standard degree programs, curriculums and departments. It is impossible to note down all activities, achievements and developments of Zaman University in a few pages. Large and small classrooms and lecture theatres are designed for effective teaching and learning. Writing boards are customized. Zaman university also put smart boards in the classrooms for the benefits of students. Zaman university has an impressive computer and language lab. The computers are latest models “All-in-One” and according to the supplier, Zaman University is the first to purchase such computers in Cambodia. Every classroom has a projector but “network projector” which allows lecturers to use it over the network. They are ordered from Singapore and again according to the supplier, Zaman University is the first to use such projectors in Cambodia. Canteen has a large area and in fact during the event, it was used as an enquiring and socializing place by the visitors.

Zaman University IT System Zaman University provides Information Technology facilities (IT facilities) to support its teaching and learning, research, administrative and business activities. IT facilities includes all computing and communication equipment, software, services, data and dedicated building space used in connection with information technology, which is owned by the University. Zaman University recognizes its responsibility to ensure the appropriate use of its IT facilities and that it must be protected from damage or liability resulting from the unlawful or inappropriate use of its IT facilities.Zaman University encourages the use of computers as a tool to enhance education. It makes leading edge computer facilities available for use by faculty and students to support teaching and learning. State-of-the-art hardware and software are installed by and receive ongoing support from the Office of Information Systems, which also provides on-site support for basic system usage. It is the goal of the Office of Information Systems to maintain the availability of equipment in classrooms and labs at the highest levels possible in support of all students and faculty. Email Email accounts are available for all faculty and students. Email accounts can be accessed on the Web using a web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox; go to http://email.zamanuniversity.edu.kh. We strongly encourage faculty and students to use their Zaman University e-mail accounts. The University sends important messages to faculty and student lists and they should not miss these messages.

Multimedia Zaman University does provide multimedia systems in classrooms that include audio and wireless projecting equipment and laptops to all academic staff. Web site Zaman University has an official web site: http://www.zamanuniversity.edu.kh Online Classroom Individual course and grade information can be accessed by Zaman University faculty and students in campus. The university’s course management system is called as classroom, which is accessible from http://classroom.zamanuniversity.edu.kh Wireless Connections It is an authentication-based system – each student and faculty member has an account with the same User Name and default password. Computer Lab Classroom Academic Computing facilities at Zaman University include computer room with an instructor’s PC. It has state of art all-in-one Lenovo PCs with running Windows 7 on the desktop. Faculty teaching courses that require the use of computers for class instruction may need to use a computer classroom. In spare times of the computer room students can enjoy the usage of computers including internet. This classroom has specially designed furniture so that the rooms can be easily used for non-computing-related courses. The classroom is equipped with instructor’s computer at the front of the room and a sound system, which can be used as class instruction requires. ID-Card Zaman University provides high tech identification cards, which are using radio frequency identification system to students and faculty members. Library System From the Library's Online Resources Search section, http://library.zamanuniversity.edu.kh faculty and staff can do their research along with online libraries from various academic resources which include online journals and articles. If you are off-campus, the use of the online resources will be limited since Zaman University subscriptions to online resources are IP based. Printing & Photocopying Zaman University students automatically receives a $1 printing and photocopying balance (equal to 33 pages), at the beginning and has 10 pages per day free usage limit. If students exceed daily usage limit, they can add money to their account using the university wide accounting system on campus. They can also check the status of their account using library system. Accounts Zaman University uses an account-based structure whereby all currently registered students and faculty on payroll are assigned user accounts with which they can log on to the University IT system in the classrooms and labs. As long as you are on payroll as a Faculty member of Zaman University, you will automatically receive a user and email accounts. To make it easier to remember, both accounts have the same user name and the same password to start with. Usually, the account user name is the first letter of your first name and your last name, or (if that user name has already been taken) your last name followed by an incremental number and your password is a random string which will be given to you and can be changed via logging in to http://registration.zamanuniversity.edu.kh

Online Quiz Zaman University provides an online quiz system for entrance exam. Same system can be used by faculty member to test the students in their courses. http://quiz.zamanuniversity.edu.kh IP-Camera Security System Zaman University campus is audit by an IP based camera system which is accessible from anywhere in campus to enhance the security of the campus. Zaman University Library and E-library The Zaman University Library, located in the first floor, has approximately 3400 books, access to more than 2000 e-journals and more than one million online images, letters, and other primary sources. All of these collections are available for students and library members’ use on campus. Students who are registered to the university may borrow circulating materials from the Library. Zaman University library has a large collection of online resources, including e-books, videos and other types of media materials and e-journals. Our publishing activity, which dates back to 1874, includes a wide range of journals, magazines and websites. • Cambridge Journals currently publishes over 250 peer-reviewed academic journals. Cambridge Journals Digital Archives (CJDA) is the leading high-functionality backfile journals article collection and contains over a century of digitized back-issue content of over 180 journals. • BioOne is home to unique collections which includes 87 high-impact publications. Dual Degree program with North American College, USA Zaman University has signed an agreement with a university in US to exchange students studying in Computer Science, Business Administration and Banking and Finance programs. The delegation led by the Rector Dr. Erkan Polatdemir, visited a number of universities in US to weigh the options for possible partnerships. Zaman University and North American College in Houston signed an exchange student agreement which allows students from Zaman University to continue their studies in United States. The students from Zaman University will study Year 1 and Year in Cambodia and Year 3 and Year 4 in Houston at North American College. The exchange program includes only Computer Science, Business Administration and Banking and Finance degree programs. The only criterion for Zaman University students to study in US is to get a Grade Pont Average (GPA) above 2.8 upon 4. With this GPA, students will get further discounts and be awarded with scholarships.North American College is accredited by Texas Higher Education Board and its Business programs are, additionally, accredited by the ACICS. There will be other exchange programs such as exchanging academic staff, student orientation programs (both in Cambodia and USA), rural development projects and urbanization with Texas A & M University, Rice University and University of St. Thomas. This agreement and potential partnerships have shown that the challenging and academically stimulating international curriculum at Zaman University starts to bear fruits. The university plans to sign more exchange programs with universities in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

English Prep School The principal goal of English Prep School is to prepare students for entry to Zaman University, usually after their high school graduation. English Prep School was founded on the principle that high level of English competency is required for a successful tertiary education for the Medium of instruction is English at Zaman University. In order to provide our students with the best environment to gain English language skills, all necessary conditions and facilities have been prepared because using English at proficiency level is a necessary prerequisite of a bright future.

At English Prep School, English is not the only concern of ours. While students try their best to be able to use the language, they also find plenty of opportunities for the development of academic skills and more importantly his or her character. English Prep School is the place where students discover their strong points as well as weak ones and through in-class and out-class activities they become ready for their university life, and later for their careers. We are confident that the language classrooms at Zaman University English Prep School are the best of all. Each classroom is equipped with a data-projector, a smart board, a sound system, air conditioning, clean and spacious learning environment. Courses are designed in a way that multi-media systems are always utilized so that students watch, listen and interact with authentic materials. The classes are always interesting and fun because students are at the center of learning process.

Portfolio Projects are an integral part of English Prep School education. Portfolio projects offer students a unique opportunity for practicing the language they learn in the classroom. Students work on projects of their own interest with a supervisor and generally study outside the university compound. They study with their classmates in order to fulfill their responsibilities to conclude their projects. Our students improve their social skills, thinking abilities, presentation skills and academic performance through Portfolio Projects. At the end of English Prep School, all our students have to pass the proficiency exam to proceed with their education at Zaman University.The Proficiency Exam consists of four basic sections and designed according to B2 difficulty level of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and taken twice a year: • • • •

The Proficiency Exam The Proficiency Exam takes about 150 minutes. Zaman University is going to hold its first Proficiency Exam on July 9, 2011- at 08:00 at Zaman University campus. Students who are interested in sitting for this exam can register online or by calling 023 996 111 or visiting the university. Summer School Summer School Project is an important free service that Zaman University provides for the students who will not be able to pass the first proficiency exam. The students are given chance to complete their linguistic skills and become better at English language through Summer School Project before they take the second proficiency exam. This year’s Summer School Project will be between August 1 and 26, 2011 for four weeks. All students wishing to study at Zaman University may take the benefit of Summer School Project for free. All you need to do is to get registered before the program begins. English Evening Courses Zaman University English Prep School offers evening English courses in Academic English, Business English and General English upon demand. Evening courses are mainly designed for those who can not commit their time during the day for some reasons. Evening courses are taken between 17:30-19:20 three times a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays (upon request, the days might be reorganized). One term consists of 54 class hours. 4 terms are carried out every year. Students are placed in a corresponding language group according to their scores from The English Placement Test. The test is free of charge.

Zaman University Inauguration Ceremony (Monday, February 21st, 2011) Zaman University was officially opened by Their Excellencies Dr. Sok An and Mr. Bülent Arınç Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey on Monday, February 21, 2011. “Our purpose is to serve the youth of this Country,” said Mr. Arınç, who spoke on Sunday at a dinner held at the Nagaworld Hotel in Phnom Penh to celebrate the opening of the university. “We believe that the valued youth of Cambodia will have access to a very good education at this university, will serve their country to elevate it, and will establish bridges of friendship between Turkey and Cambodia,” Mr. Arınç added. Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An thanked Turkish entrepreneurs for their initiatives in the area of education. Among the participants were Cambodia’s Education Minister Im Sethy, Turkey’s Ambassador to Bangkok Oğuz Çelikkol, more than 200 Turkish businesspeople, educators and parents from Zaman International Schools (ZIS).

A Memorable Trip to Kirirom National Park On March 8, 2011, Zaman University English Prep School organized a fullday trip to Kirirom National Park. Around 87 people including students, teachers, staff and families participated in this pleasure excursion. It was a firsthand experience to explore the natural beauties of Cambodia for many of the participants. Later, followed by a barbeque party and a lot of fun games, the trip left an overwhelming impression on everybody. Visit from Higher Education Dr. Pak Thavin, Director General of Higher Education, has visited our university on 20th December. After meeting the Rector, he went around the campus and had fruitful discussions with students and instructors. International Conference Commencement The 4th International Conference on Science and Mathematics Education in Developing Countries commenced on February 23, 2011 at the Zaman University Conference hall in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. More than 30 international delegates and 150 local participants joined the conference. His Excellency Mr. Pak Thavin thanked Dr. Chan Roath, the President of Mathematics Society, for organizing such important conference which he believes is important for development of science and mathematics. Following the opening speeches, the afternoon sessions were dedicated to presentations and workshops, where the participants could ask presenters questions and discuss the topics in more details. The presentation topics were mainly related to science, technology and mathematics education in developing countries. Apart from being the host of the event Zaman University also took an active part by holding series of afternoon workshops on a constructivist conceptual model in learning science. Dr. Erkan Polatdemir conducted a 90 minutes presentation to explain and illustrate the importance of student centered learning in developing students’ critical thinking, reasoning, teamwork and research skills. He also emphasized that even though this kind of approach places more burden on teachers/facilitators’ shoulders, it is more efficient than any other traditional methods of teaching. Parents' Meeting Zaman University held a Parents’ Meeting between 18:00 and 20:00 on 23 December, 2010. The event brought Administrators, Instructors, Parents and Students together. There are many differences between this year and the previous year in our school. And one of the main differences is with all the competitions we have this year. Our school has put on a lot of contests so far for all the students. One of these was a challenge from physics called the "electric circuit design competition". Thida Sreng and I were partners in this contest. From start to finish, we spent around four days preparing our project. On the first day, we spent time planning the design on a piece of paper. When we were satisfied with what we had decided, we shopped around for the necessary materials. Most of it came from recycled material. For instance, we used old discarded decorating led’s (light-emitting diodes) instead of buying new ones; we also used old wire cable as well as other materials in order to save the environment. As the deadline came, we still couldn't finish everything. At 4 o'clock, I messaged Mr. Gurkan to ask whether we could have any extra time. He said, "Today is the deadline, so you must finish it today but I will stay at school until 8 o'clock so you can meet the deadline. So Thida and I hurried and put all our effort into finishing our project. 9A TRIP TO

We had a trip to Kirirom. We met early in the morning and set out for Krirom. On the way to Kirirom, we listened to music and played some games and talked in the bus. Around 9:00 AM we arrived there and stopped at Kirirom market to get some food and drink for breakfast. When we arrived at the resort, we felt very excited. Meanwhile our teacher bought tickets for us. And we went in. First we saw Dinosaur park, very beautiful, we kept roaming around the zoo.

We saw peacocks, monkeys, rabbit and parkipine. After having lunch we took rest and relaxed under a beautiful atmosphere. After spending a great time we began to get ready, and packed our bags. Weekend at the New

When we finally arranged the new dormitory visit, outskirts of Phnom Penh, I was very excited. First my classmates came to school and waited for our homeroom teacher, Mr. Mustafa Akpinar and our assistant teacher, Mr. Perman. When they arrived, there was already a minibus arranged to the new dormitory. When everybody got into the minibus, we started out to the dormitory.

We were stunned at the spectacular view hidden among an ordinary street which would not promise anything exciting. The beautiful green trees and a pattern of lawn, and especially the swimming pool. It was the most beautiful dormitory I have ever seen. Everybody had fun together at the swimming pool including our teachers. We played a water ball chasing each other and other games but the hilarious thing was that our teacher tried to catch us and throw back to the pool. At 12 o’clock, our pizzas arrived and we all had lunch. We took pictures together like a family. Then after we finished lunch, some of us went back to the swimming pool, and some of us helped cleaning the table and had some conversation. After having fun at the swimming pool,

our homeroom teacher and our assistant teacher gave us the special treat: ICECREAM!!! HURRAY!!! It was delicious. And after finishing our treats, we went back to school. We thanked to Mr. Akpinar and Mr. Perman for this amazing time and place. We had a lot of fun together. It was the most exciting time ever happened in our life together as a family. Last but not lease we want to thank to the dormitory owner too and we will never forget how much fun we have at the new dormitory with our TEACHERS.

YOUNG STARS Let us think together. There is a contest about singing in Khmer and around 200 students join it. Maybe it is easy to write these sentences but not so easy to organize it. Students are trying to do their best and trying to discover their yet undiscovered talents. Members of this family are seeking for the statue of their soul. After semi final our music teachers have chosen top 5 from each section. And now it is time to choose top 3. We are in ZAMAN UNIVERSITY; we are in a wonderfull conference hall. The judge took their place, everyone got excited. Parents, students and teachers took their seat. And our M.C (Marina and Manith) took the microphone and made the first announcement ‘’welcome to the First Khmer Song Competition final program .This is the first but not last. Ten students are like a star in conference hall and they are waiting for their turn to shine”. ‘’Let us start from 11 B’’ said M.C then every star came on to the stage one by one and shone. They showed their splendiferous talent. All audience couldn`t believe their eyes because of stars` amazing performance. At the end of the program all singers invited to the stage and Mr. Osman, Principal of Zaman International School, gave their certificate.

Mother’s Day On May 8, students of Zaman International High School organized Mother’s Day program for their beloved mothers. During the breaks and after the lunch time, the students who were going to take part in the program have practiced for it. The routine was the same every day, with nothing to break the monotony. Even the day before the program, the assistant teachers along with the students have gone to the conference hall of Zaman International University where the program was going to take place. It was obvious that their performances were going to be satisfied and impressive. The program was a surprise for mothers; hence, the students were really excited about it. And the day has come. The staff and students have collectively arrived to the university before guests. Everyone was excited about program, especially students; their eyes were ablaze with excitement. Guests have started to come and take their place in a stately conference hall of Zaman International University. After that, the program has started. It had a lot of audience participation, with mothers, teachers, and students of the high school. During the program, mothers were entranced by a high-performance of students. At the end of the program, mothers were given roses and moved on the canteen to have some snack. During the snack, mothers said that they were delighted with the cooperation between teachers and students. In addition, they have mentioned that everyone gave such an effusive welcome that they were influenced.

Mothers, without a doubt, the most important person in our lives. Instead of giving roses on May 5th 2011, ZIS had the honor to share the gratitude with a lot of the students’ mothers. The Show was hosted in the ZU conference hall at 9am. There were traditional dances, meaningful songs and unforgettable acts, sincere speeches were given and slide shows were presented. We looked around the hall and saw the joyful faces of mothers watching their child perform and realized that that was, for sure, the reason why this day was created. W wanted these wonderful role models to feel special for one day and to let them know their hard work of shaping their children were not gone unnoticed. Mother’s Enduring Love Since I was in my mother’s womb until a couple of months ago, I had taken my mother’s love for granted and had never once felt grateful for her love. Little did I know how much my mother love and care about me. What I saw was only the different ways she treated me and my brother. Though I was longing for her love, the jealousy inside of me took the better of me, putting up an invisible barrier between me and her. Every night when I closed my eyes, I saw her scolding me, hitting me and ignoring me whenever I wanted to talk to her about my education or just about my happy times with my friends. Then I would spend the night, trying to shut the image and biting my lips to stop my tears from falling, wishing she would love me as she loves my brother. However, my senses came back to me last 2 months. It was a Sunday; I was surfing through the internet to find a suitable university abroad to study after my graduation as time flies pass and my graduation is inching closer and closer by the second. While I was search ing, I came across a complaint from a student abroad accidentally, which was about how difficult it was to cope with her life abroad without her family with her and how much she misses her mother. I was taken aback by her adoration toward her mother. She wrote she misses every simple thing that her mother did for her when she was in Cambodia. I was surprised when finish reading because my mother did those things for me as well, but it was me, who didn’t value them. I sat back and closed my eyes; flashbacks of my mother replayed in my head. I saw my mother hitting me again, but this time I saw something glimmering in her eyes, the details I neglected before, and I realized it was her tear. She was hurt inside for hitting me, but she wanted me to be good and to stop repeating my faults. Next I saw her cooking my favorite food happily; I saw her feeding me patiently when I was a child and I saw her towing me everywhere because she was afraid she would lose me. Subsequently, I saw her rushing back and forth to get things comfortable for me. It was around 6 years ago when I got infected by a stomach disease. At that time, I didn’t even have enough strength to stay awake the whole day and my mother had to change the wet towel on my forehead to keep me cool, grind the dried fish to power for I couldn’t eat any thing hard, cook porridge for me and change ice for me to put on my stomach every single day. I would be under the ground in my grave right now, if she wasn’t always there by my side, nursing me back to health and accompanying to the hospital everyday. I was zapped back to reality when my mother called me to eat lunch. While eating with her, I noticed she looked weary, but she had never complained about her tiredness. She just kept it to herself and smiled to make everyone around her happy even though she works everyday to support the family even when my father also works his hardest to earn the family a good life. It dawned on me that she does love me and will always love me. Her love for me and my brother is endless. From now on I will keep the preciousness of her love in my mind and I will always love her as long as my heart is still beating. I believe every mother’s everlasting love will always be there for her children even when her children don’t understand her. First of all, my mother is a strong and hardworking person. She had me inside her belly for around 9 mon ths and days which was really hard for her to walk, sit, stand and even sleep . Although, she tried her best until I was born and that was the time that my new life has begun by Mother. My mother is also a very helpful and kind person. Last time when I was five, one of my relative was poor; she had no money to buy foods to survive and to raise her family, so she asked my moth er for some money. My mother pitied her. Some mothers might have experience and knowledge but some others might not because of all difficulties and other obstacles which does not allow them to find out more about education. However, mother knows best though she is well-educated or not well-educated means that only mothers can avoid their childre n away from danger and spend her time giving more and more advice every day. No matter how she feels, but she tries her best to bring up her children, have their own jobs, have families and know how to protect themselves from bad things which may happen to any children. Some children never know what hard work, honesty and patien ce that stays in mothers’ heart. Besides, some children spend a lot of money without thinking of their mothers’ hard work and how difficult it is for her to earn money for paying school fees and other miscellaneou s fees especially supporting the family. What is more, mother is the only one who will make the family ’s future and the children’s future become better. If the world had no mothers, it would be totally dark and full of sadness. For me, I really want to apologize to my mother that I somet ime do unrespectful things and do not listen to her when she gives me advice and when she talks about my mistakes. So to her supports, I try to make good things and study very hard because I want my mom to be proud to have this kind of daugh ter like me. Especially I really always overcome myself to make her feel relaxed and happy to see me after she finishes her work. To sum up, mother is the only woman who can protect her childre n and teach her children to become a good girl and behave well in the world. That’s why every child must be very respectful, love their mother and always keep her in their heart so that they will never forget her. Mother is the god in our house. Some love their mother but some not. They do not know how important their mother is. When they lose something that they love the most, they will understand and start thinking about that. But everything'd already done. Mom knows what's wrong and right. They always educate their children not to follow the bad things or do the bad things. They always tell what we do wrong. Sometimes they blame us but we do not like. So we hate them and love dads. Parents never want their children to become drugs abuses or stay outside the house or do not do follow their culture. They always want their sons or daughters get successful in their future even thought they do not listen to them but they still try until they go away from us and never come back. Mom is the most important in my life. She gave birth to earth. There was really heavy for us to carry something but she did not complain or blame us when we were born. She always wanted us to born us to the sunlight and be as the other children. She carried us for 9 months 10 days. She was really difficult and sometimes she ate something that she did not want to. But because of her son or daughter, she decided to eat. Their dads always go to work and try to work hard to support their children. Their moms stay at home, cook food and take care of us. When we cry, they sing for us until we sleep then they go to do the house work. Do we often ask them how much she get tired? How much she tries to work for us? And how much she care about us? I think no one ask. Some of them blame theirr mother or answer back to their moms or dads. One day they will understand their mom more and more. Some children did not have moms since they were born. But they love their moms and they wish they would live with their moms now. But unfortunately they will never be with them. So if you have good moms which always blame you, so please let them blame and do not answer back just walk away if you do not want to listen. Do not stay or answer back. Then after, come back and say apologize. It is not difficult. Let try to ask them how hard they were and ask them for advice. Say that you love your mom everyday. You need them. You miss them and you can not live without them. When they just hear your words they will be happy. They think you are big and grow up now. Say it from your real feel and your real thought. For me I can not tell her forever. She'd ready passed away. So it no chance for me anymore. You tell them everyday because you have a lot of chances. I wish all of Mothers all my best and successful in their jobs and have good children.

Girls my age often think about their futures. They think about what their jobs will be, their husbands, their family, whether they’d be a good wife. But most importantly, they would think about whether they’re going to be good mothers. They would say, “When I’m older and have children, I’m not going to be strict, I’m not going to force my child to study, I’m going to allow her to go out with her friends”. Usually, they would imagine themselves as the mother they’ve always wanted their own moms to be. But when they grow up and become a mother themselves, they are going to realize they are not going to be the mother they’ve dreamed of. This is because when you’ve got a child, you love and worry about them, and so you don’t allow them to go out, you force them to study so that they could have a good future. This is true for all mothers. Our mothers care for us, that is why they are strict and at times, seems unreasonable. The love and care they feel for their children is immeasurable. This love is unconditional love since they’ve loved you from the time they know they were pregnant, even though they’ve got no idea how you’re going to turn out to be. They continue to love us still, providing us with food, clothes, money and other things necessary for a good life. They don’t complain about the tiring hours they stayed awake at night to make us stop crying, nor about the fact that they work hard to earn enough money for you. Babies know instantly when they’re born who their mother is. They instinctively reach out for their moms for comfort in a strange new world. Young children go to their mom for candies, bedtime stories, and when they are bullied. But once you become teens, most teens, leave their mom alone, thinking they are uncool, that they don’t understand how you feel, how you need to hang out with friends, how you need to go to that party and etcetera. This is where most teens, like me, like my friends, need to think again about whether their moms are controlling or just worried about your safety and future. Mothers do not want to be controlling. No mother wants to see her child mad at her; they want their child to be as happy as possible. But they also know that they can’t let their child become spoiled. In short, they just do everything they do, because they believe that it is the best way to raise us up, for our own good. We all know what we should do to try to repay the kindness our moms have given to us. Help with housework, be a good student, cook her favorite dish, make a surprise birthday, don’t cause trouble, asking her “how are you” and “I love you” everyday and do all the things that would make her happy every time we could. And like for all wonderful people, there’s a day that specifically celebrate a mother’s love. Mother’s Day is a very special day for all of us, since it reminds those who have forgotten, how special their mom is, and it also allows those who are shy; to say I love you to their mom without feeling too scared. I know we should do something special for our mothers, but the thing that we should know is that we shouldn’t just celebrate her love for just one day of the year, we should make her feel like the happiest person every minute of every year. Just tell her, “I’m proud to be your son/daughter. You have raised me up to be the best person that I can be, and I shall thank you for the rest of my life. I love you mom”. Viriya Keo 10F
