had a breakfast that was prepared by each family. All of us were really enjoying the different scenery along the National Road 4 and it made us forget the weariness the past workweek. Still enjoying the view we arrived in Sihanouk Vile at maybe 12:25 pm and we continued to the Mead Samod restaurant for a lunch that we had already arranged for ahead of time. We had lunch with Tom Yam soup, fried green cabbage and fried fish that tasted very delicious. After having lunch some teachers went to check-in at the hotel that we had booked already. Anyway, some of the other teachers swam and went for a walk along the beach. All Khmer and foreign teachers happily played football together, with the agreement being that the losers would have to be responsible for frying the chicken for dinner. We continued our playing and ate something there until 7:30 pm when we went on to

the hotel. Eventually group A's bus had a battery problem again but we solved the problem. After we arrived back at the hotel, most of teachers had a deep sleep in the air conditioned rooms, and some of the other teachers went to the seashore to catch crabs, and others went to the market to buy some fruit and dessert to eat. The second day, we went to have breakfast at Phsa Ler market, and continued the trip to other places. After we arrived at Otros we had lunch and swam. At 12:30 pm we departed from Otros and went to the Snake house that has many kinds of wild animals. But what was exceptional and fantastic about that day was that on the 8th of March (International Woman Right’s Day), Mr. Selmani, Mr. Enis, and other foreign teachers bought roses for each Khmer teacher to give to their wife or sister. We took a lot of photos of us clapping our hands to

congratulate the people receiving the roses. At 1:35 pm we departed from Sihanouk province to Phnom Penh and along the way we stopped to buy some fruit to give to our families and other relatives who were waiting at home. At about 7:45 pm we arrived in Phnom Penh safely, happy with the journey we had just taken. Below are some comments and teacher’s point of views about this journey: - Khiev Phit (Khmer Civic) said that “this journey show about unity, time expense and keep in touch to each other in working career”. - Mr. Heang Eng (Khmer Physics) said that “the journey on 08 March 2010 had show about the unity, closely and increasing the value of women". - Mr. Chan Sovann Srun (Khmer Biology) said that “this journey full of freshly that show about all teachers mind not only Khmer teacher or foreign on the other hand we would like to express that all of teachers are congratulation and increasing the value International Women’s right day under take care from the leader of Zaman International School”. - M r. A n n e K i m ( K h m e r Mathematic) said that ”this journey had join from Khmer staff and foreign that is a good communicate with each other and be happy after work and we would like to have this journey every year". - Mr. Saroeun Ek (Khmer Physics) said that “during this journey his feelings like:

- Make all passengers know more clearly about each family - Make children know more clearly about society - Make all of us feeling fresh beside workdays." - M r. P o l l y K Y ( K h m e r Chemistry) said that “this is a journey that made teacher’s family have chance to be friendship better than before and still continue our friendship together." - Mrs. Saony To (Khmer Literature) said that “I think this trip is really good for all staffs that joined because: -First: we were happy for keep in touch with each other and good communicate between Khmer teacher and foreign teacher. - Second: To show about attending in increasing ability and women value on the 8th of march for International Women Right‘s day. - Third: To show about paying attention of director of Zaman International School to the staffs that he supported this journey and it is not only this time but he often thinking and give a chance for the previous trip." Finally, we would like to say thank you so much to Zaman International School. Especially to the School Director for supporting this trip and we hope that next year we will make another trip to another tourism area either inside or outside the country. ******@******

ACTIVITIES

The First Tremendous Staff Day!!!!!

E

very year Zaman school takes time to concentrate on the teachers and staff in order to celebrate a memorable time together. Likewise, this year on the 17th of January, 2010, Zaman High School celebrated the first staff day for all staff and teachers. This was a very wonderful day and Khmer and foreign teachers and their families alike all joined in and had fun together. We all gathered together at 8.30 in the morning, though some teachers and staff were a bit late. Firstly, Mr. Naci and Miss Rithy gave a welcome speech to us, then all the games were started. Some of us took some photos of this ceremony and the others started playing different games. There were more than 10 types of games played on that day. One game we played was throwing and catching water balloons, but what we liked the most that day was the sack racing game we played on the football field. This game was lead by Ms. Goksel, P.E teacher. Not only staff but also the teachers’ children liked that game very much. We spent a lot of time playing this game. Then we formed a big group in order to throw a ball between us. Meanwhile, another group of female teachers lead by Ms. Vesile were playing "chasing ball" with the secretaries and Khmer teachers. Judging by the amount of laughter that was coming from that group, they had a great time.

Now, let’s talk about the male teachers who were really keen on playing some sport as they arranged a big group to play volleyball. At the same time some teachers were playing basketball also. Throwing the circular stick was an enjoyable game which we played by throwing a round stick onto a stake that was placed 1or 2 meters away from the throwing point. Later on the lucky draw selection came up as we gathered near the stage to listen if our lucky numbers, given by Mr. Mustafa, were called. In the meantime, we played another fun activity on the stage where a team of secretar-

ies and a team of teachers and kids danced to the music and played "musical chairs", the winner getting a prize. By 11 o’clock we stopped playing for awhile because that was the time for us to eat food; doughnuts, cakes and desserts which were prepared by our cook, Mr. Sami and the Turkish women supervisors and teachers. While we were having a great meal together, some of the male teachers were having a friendship football match and after the match they came to eat also. Yummy yummy!!! All the food was so delicious, everyone was really full!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again, the lucky draw started so that the prizes could be given to the lucky

teachers, kids, and staff whose numbers came up. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!! to Miss Raksmey, c a s h i e r, w h o s e l u c k y d r a w number was selected for the grand prize of this event. Raksmey said that she didn’t expect to receive the grand prize and it really surprised her when she heard her number called. Time flies when we are having fun*****. Time forced us to end that great day, so Mr. Osman called to all of us to come take photos of the memorable day that we had spent together. After that, all the teachers and staff danced happily to Turkish music before we finally ended the great staff day.

ACTIVITIES

Summer Festival

ZAMAN has a great reputation in terms of organizing new activities for its students. This time ZAMAN came up with Summer Festival again. Last year it concerned only girls’ side but this time, as a result of great demand, it was organized for boys as well. This type of activities are held in an effort to enable students to have a great time, boost their motivation, support their adaptation to school, encourage them to learn new skills, and create close interaction between parents and teachers. We are happy to

announce that this festival served the expected purpose. The festival was organized in accordance with the students’ selection of games and activities. The attendance was great, there were 245 students with the same festival t-shirts. The festival started at 08:00 with selling tickets. With snacks, drinks, desserts, various games, and with lucky draw the festival was totally awesome. There were 15 different games such as: Tug of war (between classes),Penalty kicks, Basketball shots, Carrying eggs,

Intelligence games, Computer games, Balloon breaking contest, Sack hop race, Ring toss, Dizzy kicks, Egg catching, and Egg carrying. The most anticipated part of the festival, without doubt, was the time of lucky draw. There were 15 different presents in it. The biggest one was laptop. The lucky one to win the laptop was Ratanaksethey Lin from 7A. He said that he joined to summer festival for the first time and won laptop. He was so lucky. Everybody all agreed on one point that ZAMAN is not only

unparalleled in terms of education but also in social activities. The festival lasted for 4 hours and ended at 12:00. Having experienced all this stuff, students are looking forward to the next 2011 Summer Festival. We want to thank school administration, teachers, and all students for their contribution and attendance. Hope to see you next year with the same spirit.

ACTIVITIES

Science Competition For Boys On the 5th of February 2010, Our school presented a science competition that covered 5 subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computers, a n d g e n e r a l knowledge as well. It took place in Zaman's cinema room. Around 100 students were present for the competition. This c h a l l e n g i n g competition was between the 10th and 11th grades. There were 4 groups; from 10A ( Sunheng Ty, Sintan Som and Sokly Ny), 10B (Lymeng Chhun, Rothsema Lay and Hangleng Tang), 11A (Dara Chan, Vuthourn Nhek and Beza Num)and 11 B ( Va t h a n a k Ponleu Van, Sopheak Ngeth and Panharith Khan) The competition was emceed by Mr. Mustafa Dur and Mr. Selmani Yazici, both of whom are Chemistry and Math teachers. And the scores were recorded by Mr. Nuri, Mr. Halil, and Mr. Naci. Most of the math and chemistry

questions were very complicated. They looked easy at first but we often couldn't solve them correctly. Also, there were some tricky questions. After the first announcement of the scores some groups felt happy, but some felt sad because of their poor result.

Although some teams got fewer points than the others, their classmates were still strongly supporting them. At first, 10A’s scores were higher than 10B’s scores. Also, 11A’s scores and 11B’s scores were very close. I n t h e e n d M r. S e l m a n i

announced the 4th place, and it was 11A, 3rd place was 11B, 2nd place went to 10A, and the winner was 10B. Each group received their awards from their teacher. We were all very happy and enjoyed this challenge.

ACTIVITIES

Science Competition For Girls

On the 29th of January, our school arranged a competition which included all the science subjects (math, physics, chemistry, biology and computers) with some general knowledge questions. The questions were put together by science teachers. It took place in the cinema room. Around 100 students were present for the competition. This challenging competition was between the 10th and 11th grades from the

girls` side. There were 4 groups; from 10E (Puthearothsopor Tan, Sodalin Seng, Lymei Sun), 10F (Sonita Poch, Boranai Tychhon, Vo n g l e a k h e n a H e n g ) , 11 E (Phalhong Mao, Kang Muy Lim, Chan Song Phiboun Lim), 11F (Dany Hout, Pevo Mony Pich, Chan Lita Morm). The competition contained 3 sections. Each section had 12 questions and the questions were random, which made 2 questions per subject. So in total

there were 36 questions. The competition w a s p r esented by M r. S e l m a n i YAZICI, who is a math teacher and Mr Mustafa Dur who is a chemistry teacher. The scores were kept track of b y Mrs.Yasemin TUTUMLU and Miss Merve Kokgul At the start of the competition, the questions were quite easy for the competitors to figure out. Most answers were correct. All the classes cheered joyfully for their own classmates while the scores for the 1st section were being announced. The groups in the lead at that time were 10F and 11E, both with the same score. However, as the 2nd section b e g a n , th e q u e sti o n s w e re g e t t i n g h a r d e r a n d h a r d e r. Competitors became more excited and more nervous while

solving their questions. But there were still some who were able to do it. That is why the positions of 10E and 10F were switched while 11E remained on top. Continuing onto the 3rd section, students seemed to be a little tired as they had used a lot of their energy in solving the previous questions. But their confidence and challenging minds made them sit straight up and go on to tackle those remaining questions. Finally, the competition ended, scores were being calculated, students were discussing who the winner would be while the participants felt relaxed because they had done their job. But they did feel a little nervous as well while waiting for the results. Five minutes passed, ``the 4th place team is,is,is‌ 11F. The 3rd place goes to 10F while the 2nd place winner is 10E. Finally, the 1st place winner for today is 11E!`` Mr.Selmani announced. Big cheers erupted after the announcement; teachers gave out gifts to their students with a big smile and took photos with them. That was the end of the SCIENCE COMPETITION! Everybody felt joyful as we listened to the national anthem. Written by Phalhong Mao

My Farming Experience

O

n March, 6, 2010 the grade 5 and 6 students joined in an activity which was planting. It was fun!

Our class (5b) had 9 students who were very eager to go there. When we arrived there, we went to training room. They

were cute and very small, but healthy. We took a picture of them. Then we went to see the chili which came from Taiwan. They were long and yummy; I picked and kept it to eat at home. Then they taught us how to plant tomatoes, it was easy. First we put the soil, then we took the shovel to dig into a small hole, next we put the small plant into the hole, and we filled the hole with soil. And after that we went again to training room. Mr. Hakan gave the certificate to the manager of the farm. And then we had a picnic, hooray! Only our class brought lots of food that made it into a ‘‘A real picnic’’. Then it was time to say good bye, all of us wanted to stay longer there but it was time to go back home. I wish we could have this fun activity again.

our journey. It took us around 15 minutes to get there. When we arrived, we got out of the bus and went up to the fifth floor. However, unfortunately, 4D game was not yet opened. So, teacher Noemie, decided to

Do you know what you want to do –increase your speed, be aggressive, do freestyle slalom, maintain a figure, etc. - go for the skate that fits your activity, and try not to worry about what's easier. The easiest one for you will be the one you're having fun doing. So what are you waiting for? Pick up your roller blades and start rolling and gliding for fun!!! It’s one sure way of releasing stress after a long day of studying and working.

Skating is fun and suitable for all ages. Everyone can share the joy with friends or sit back, relax and enjoy drinking juices and food whilst watching skaters get active and have fun. To release the stress of 4-C, on Saturday, March 13, 2010, we went to a roller rink which is in Sorya Mall. Everyone was very happy and had a great time there. I got on the machine and enjoyed the race. The game was really exciting and at the same time it was so scary. I really got scared, so I closed my eyes. athlete in 2008, having earned an estimated $110 million from winnings and endorsements. One of my students, Steven, knows him. He even kept on saying to himself he is Tiger Woods.? Can you imagine how talented Tiger Woods is in the field of golf? Hmmmm…we can say he is “super talented!”

In playing golf, we need several equipments such as golf ball, a golf club, ball markers, tees, a golf bag, a golf cart, towels, club head covers, ball mark repair tools, other aids such as ball retrievers, rangefinders, stroke counters, specialized golf attire, positional guides, adhesive club face surfaces, ball washers, clothing such as

Last Saturday, March 13, fourteen students from 1-A class enjoyed a golf game at Parkway Square. We l ef t s c h o o l at 9 : 0 0 i n t h e morning and arrived there after half an hour. The kids can’t wait to put their hands to the golf clubs. Since they are beginners, except Steven who started playing golf before, we tried the computerized golf game which was really enjoyable. Each student was able to play the game. The others, who were waiting for their turns, took time practicing on the mini lawn near the big screen. They all pretended to be “professional mini-golfers”. After an hour of playing, we had our snacks at Lucky Burger. They all enjoyed the food. They even packed some food left for home. At 11:00, we drove back to school. Everyone wanted to experience the fun again.

Saturday activities are really fun, relaxing and enjoyable. On the 13th of March, the 2C class went to City Mall to have some shopping. This activity was not new to them but the kids were still very excited. When we got to the supermarket, the kids got co n f u s e d o n w h at to b u y because they saw a lot of new items that were not on their

A visit to ZIS High School Campus INFUSION Sometimes life can be so cunningly surprising. March 4, 2010, I could perfectly remember how my 6th graders responded with those big and joyous screams of excitement upon announcing the day to study with the 7th graders in Zaman high school. It was the brilliant idea of our principal Sir Adem and his admin team to have such activity which was warmly permitted and accommodated by the high school body headed by Sir Osman, Sir Mustafa, Madam Grace, Madam Sheela, Madam Goksel and Sir Gary and of course, the 7th graders! ‘) Undeniably, upon seeing the big smiling faces of my kids right after each lesson with their “new teacher and brand new classmates”, there was a big deal of having fun while learning. “ Teacher our lesson was very funny”, “ Teacher we really had fun with them { 7th graders and the

In the training center we met the director Mr. Nuth Sokhom and Mr. Ket Sam At, one of the research officer in their department. After that, we went to study and check the plants that they grow. We were toured around plantations of tomatoes, string beans, chili, mangoes, cabbages, corn, and many others. After that we studied about the soil mixture then we planted their local tomato seedling and from Vietnam. We did some mango harvesting, right after, we had a

Then we went back to the training center to give the certificate of appreciation to the General Directorate of Agriculture, Mr. So Khanrithykun via the director and the research officer’s ending speech. On the way home, we just can’t sit still. Happily chatting a b o u t s u c h a m e m o ra b l e experience, we’re also proud not only to the plants we planted but also of the fruits we harvested. This prestigious school offers swimming in its Physical Education Curriculum. Students are free to experience the relaxing and exciting kind of sport in this generation. The 3-A class chose to have swimming on a Saturday morning to spend much time to enjoy the pool. Regular days of P.E lesson, the class just spent an hour or even less than 40 minutes due to changing of suits before jumping into the pool. Therefore, the students are not satisfied of it. So, as a homeroom teacher I decided to have a “Swimming on a Saturday”. There were ten students who attended this activity namely; Nick Piboon, Malysa Veng, Kanika Rita Chim, P i t o u B u n , S e y h o u r Ta n , Roathpanharith Keo, Somyang

Ngep, Kim Hout, Belchhunna Nor and Visal Sak Set. During the activity, I didn’t have difficulties of teaching some ways as they knew much about it. I could say that they were trained well enough with

their private tutors. One of the best exercises they loved was keeping themselves under water without breathing. This exercise measures how long they can stay under the water. It was Nick Piboon who could

stay much under water without breathing. So, we thought of acknowledging him as the best swimmer.

Fruit Salad Making Tip

also because of the many health benefits one gets from eating it. Making a fruit salad is not really difficult. You just have to make sure that you have all the necessary ingredients prepared. If you have fruit trees planted in your backyard, it will be truly easy for you to make the salad. You may also check out the nearest grocery store for fruits that may be hard to find in the backyard. Most fruit salads have the following fruits as ingredients: g ra p e s , a p p l e s , p e a c h e s , pineapples, and the likes. Berries such as strawberries and blueberries may also be added. Some people also utilize chopped mint and a little amount of sour cream, and of course, a little bit of honey for sweetness. More often than n o t , t wo c u p s f i l l e d w i t h

assorted fresh fruits are enough to make a fruit salad that can serve 3-4 people. Be reminded that all you have to do once you have the ingredients is to mix them well, and voila, you'll have your very own fruit bowl. Making the salad is actually similar to the way you prepare your fruity platter - the only difference is that you have to create a dressing for the salad. Dressings, of course, differ from one continent to another. In Europe, for instance, mayonnaise is used as the main ingredient for the dressing, while condensed milk is used as the main dressing ingredient for fruit salads in Asia. Those salads, no matter what kind of dressing, have one common taste: they are definitely meant to be sweet. (Prepared by: Class 1C)

O

ne of the most delicious desserts is actually the fruit bowl or the so called fruit salad. It is very much similar to the fruit platter, except for the fact that the fruit salad has a dressing,

while a platter of fruits are just an assortment of cut fruits arranged on a plate. All over the world, the fruit salad can be considered as a favorite dessert, not only because of the sweet taste it provides, but

FIELD TRIP

11-B Trip To Kampongsam After many weeks of planning for the trip to Kompongsom, we had made our last arrangements. The trip was on 23 January, 2010. Only 4 days to left to get ready but we could try our best. 4 days seemed a long time for us to wait but at last the time came. We had planned on departing at 4a.m. but at that time only some of our friends had come so we had to wait 15 min. more until at last all of our friends arrived and it was time to start our fantastic trip to Kompongsom. In the bus some of our friends started sleeping but we disturbed them and tried not to let them sleep. We sang songs together and tried to make some music of our own. On the way our monitor had a stomach ache, so we stopped and let him go to be sick. At 7a.m. we made our way to a place called Yeaymao and there we stopped and took something to pray and wish that we would have a safe trip. There is an amazing view there so we spent some more time there to take pictures and get some fresh air. We spent only 20 minutes there and then we hit the road again. When we climbed down from the hill we stopped at the foot of the hill and had breakfast. We took only 20 minutes to have breakfast and then we hit the road to Kompongsom again. At 8:45a.m. we got there and then we stopped at the market and bought some fresh seafood.

Then we went to book a hotel (a high class one). We were able to hit the beach at 12p.m. but my super duper homeroom teacher stabbed us in the back and tricked us, so we had to take a look around the city. After a short look around we hit the beach and some of our friends were too lazy to help the others to prepare the lunch. When the lunch was ready all of our friends came back from playing on the beach and ate (yum yum yum that food was out of this world! ha ha ha... and it was finger licking good).

After that wonderful meal we changed our clothes and hit the water hard (we never forget the sun block), we also rode the banana boat and played volleyball. We went back to the hotel at 4p.m., then we rented bicycles to cycle around Kompongsom and explore, which was very good exercise for us. After that we went back at 5:30p.m. to have dinner in a restaurant near the high class hotel. After that meal we went to the hotel and changed into our swimming suits for the pool. Our

friends were going wild and they played hard, some of them close to losing control. After that we went to the beach again and set off fireworks with everybody at the beach watching us. After a half hour of setting off fireworks we headed back to the hotel, but not before some of our friends bought some snake to eat back at the hotel. It would be hard to imagine our room, you know what it is like inside a forest? Everything in the room was spread out everywhere because our wild friends had play fought

breakfast together, when we were ready, we went back to the hotel and rode the bicycles again for our morning exercise. When we checked out we went to the

snake house to take a look and study the different types of snake, we also took some photos. When we left Kompongsom we went to have

lunch at Veal Renh. We also stopped halfway to take some photos of the sunset from the center of the road.

Master Suki Soup 11-B It was Friday, the 5th of March, the day that one of our member’s was celebrating his birthday. His name is Van Vathanak Ponleu. In the afternoon during lunch time, we ate a cake that we had prepared for his birthday. Our party was joined by Mr. Rany, Mr.

Selmani and Mr. Metin. We all ate t h e c a k e together. Then, at 6:30p.m., we went to Master Suki Soup which is located

in the Sorya Shopping Center. Once there, we began eating soup, laughing, cheering and poking fun at each other and nothing could

have made the evening any happier. Ponleu’s face showed how glad he was that everybody had taken the time to come and celebrate his birthday. *********&*********

FIELD TRIP

3 Days, 2 Nights at Siem Reap On Tuesday the 09th everyone was too tired to come to school. Even though we couldn't stand the lessons we still struggled through them. Maybe you are wondering why we were tired. OKAY! Let’s go back to the evening of Friday the 5th. After a series of very long lessons everybody was looking forward to a marvelous trip to SIEM REAP. We were planning to stay there 2 nights and 3 days. That night nobody slept at all because they were so excited and they couldn’t wait for the trip. Tick Tock! Tick Tock! RING!!! goes the alarm clock. Finally, the time has come; It is 4:30 so we have to get everything ready. We, the 10A class, met each other at school at 5:00. In all, 21 students and 3 teachers (Mr. Nuri Demirel and his 2 friends) attended this activity. After everything was set, we left school at 5:40. On the way while in the bus we all enjoyed ourselves and relaxed, some of us listened to music, played games, and some danced happily and we all felt comfortable. Doing all these things might help us pass the time while we were traveling. Within 1 hour we had reached a place somewhere near kampong Cham Province and stopped to have breakfast. As soon as we finished we continued to SIEM REAP, where we arrived at 11. Five hours from Phnom Penh to Siem reap didn’t seem very long for us, Now that we were at Siem Reap we all felt a little hungry so we stopped at the Chaktomouh restaurant to have lunch. After this we went to check in at the hotel, which took us half an hour. At 2:00pm we went to the cultural center (or cultural Village) and from 2:00 to 6:30 we spent the time watching and playing in some shows. In one of those shows the actor asked for a volunteer from the audience. To our surprise he picked someone from among our class, Smey. They asked him to act the part of a prince that would marry the King’s daughter. And so he did, and we took a lot of photos when Smey was in action. After that we went to see the biggest show of all. That show was called “Preah

Baat Jayavarman VII”. It is a fictional show based on a true story that took place during the ancient days of Cambodia. There was a great Khmer King called “Jayavarman VII” who ruled Cambodia during that time. They perform this show to keep the memory of Jayavarman VII alive for the Khmer people. The

show went on for 1 hour and when the show finished we took a few photos with the lead actor. And then we rushed our way through the crowd walking to exit. When we were all gathered back at our bus we got on and went to eat dinner at 8:00, returning back to the hotel at 8:30. That night nobody slept at

all. We all enjoyed the time playing PS2, computer games, chess, and many more fun things. On the second day in the hotel we had breakfast. When we all finished we went to visit the temples and took lots of photos. At 11:00, after having visited 3 temples, we all felt exhausted so we went to have

lunch at the same restaurant. At the afternoon we went to visit Angkor Wat which is the only temple that we could not miss. We went to every corridor and hall of Angkor and our guide explained its story to us. After that we left Angkor Wat and went to climb Bakeng hill to watch the sunset. When we were at the top there was a little celebratory singing from Pannasatra University students. They sang about the Khmer people, Khmer reign, Preah Vihear..etc. We took a lot of pictures of the sunset. It was very beautiful. When it was finished, we all raced each other to the bottom taking two different ways down the hill. It was fun but we were also being very careful not to get hurt. When we were all gathered back on our bus we were all exhausted again so we went back to the hotel for a little rest. At 7:30 p.m. we went out to dinner. When we got back to the hotel at 8:30 some of us went to the Night Market with Mr. Nuri. When we came back, we saw that our friends were still acting lively and they weren't sleepy at all, just playing PS2 and doing the same things again. On the third day, which was our last day, we had breakfast at the hotel again and then we checked-out of the hotel. Next we went to the National Museum. In the museum we saw various

valuable things and some prehistorical ancient things, such as a Buddhist statue, and we took a lot of pictures. After finishing at the museum we went to have lunch at Banteay Srey restaurant and decided to go back to Phnom Penh; how sad! On the way back we took the Battam Bong route. This route allowed us to travel around Tonle Sap lake. We stopped at Battambong Province and went to our friend Vichetra's restaurant. His restaurant is

called “Soun Youvan“ We warmly greeted Vichetra’s mother, who is the owner of the restaurant, and his mother gave us a warm welcome too with a happy face. We relaxed and rested a little bit and drank some beverages. Then it was time to leave and we all said goodbye to Vichetra’s mother. On the bus we all did the same things that we did when we went to Siem Reap. Some of our friend played their music on the bus so that the music made

things a little bit more lively. We spent 6 to 8 hours traveling in order for us to get back to Phnom Penh and we arrived at 8:30. All of our parents were there and ready to see their son’s face once again. We were all sad but the joyful 3 days seemed like just 1 day to us. Time flies when we are enjoying ourselves. That’s the end of our trip and we’ll never, I mean never, forget it.

First Five Star Trip To Koh Kong With 12-B As Mr.Yafes is our homeroom teacher, this trip was the 1st trip with him. We decided to go to Kong Kong from the 6th to 8th of March. Saturday, 6th March arrived, our trip started. We left Phonm Penh around 6:40a.m. We had breakfast at the Champoowant restaurant at 7:20a.m. We stopped at Pich Nil at 9:30a.m. to pray for safety on our trip and take some photos. On the way from Pich Nil to Koh Kong there were many friends and Mr.Yafes sleeping, so we took photos of them while they were sleeping with their funny faces. When it was 11:30a.m. we were hungry again so we decided to stop at Ta Tai bridge to buy wild pig meat with rice. Finally, we arrived in Koh Kong at 1:00p.m. We went directly to the Koh Kong resort where we were going to stay. After we were at hotel everybody seemed to be tired so we had a rest. In the evening we went to the market in Thailand by crossing the border and duty free in the hotel. After that we went to the Tamab restaurant to have dinner. After that we went back to the hotel and changed clothes, then went to swim in the hotel’s swimming pool. We swam there for almost 2 hours. We got back to our rooms around 10:30p.m. and some of us went to sleep right away. The others did not sleep because they were playing games till late at night.... The next day we woke up at 8:00a.m. and we went to have breakfast at 8:30a.m. before we went to Safari World. We arrived late so we couldn't see the Orangutan show and we went to watch the bird show instead. During this show Mr.Yafes and Bunlong also joined in the show on stage. After laughing and enjoying the bird show we went to see the crocodile show but this time we watched without laughing because it was too dangerous. The next show was the tiger show. It was nice that the tiger could jump into the fire and obey whatever the trainer said. The last show was the dolphin show. This animal is the cleverest animal that lives in the sea. The dolphins showed their interesting skills, in the water

they can sing and dance, kiss some people who go up on the stage, and much more. After watching the show in Safari World we took some photos and went to have lunch in the Malob Chrey restaurant which is located in front of Safari World. We went back to the hotel around 2:00p.m. In the evening we went to watch the sunset on the beach. Then we went to the swimming pool and swam. After we swam, we ordered room service because we did not want

to go to the restaurant to eat. At night we did not sleep right away because we went to catch crabs around 1:00a.m. For almost an hour we caught many crabs but then we were tired so we went back to our rooms in order to sleep. The time was going by so quickly, it was already the last day of our trip. We woke up at 8:00a.m. and then we went to the restaurant to have breakfast one more time at the Pumin Koh Kong restaurant before we checked out around

9:30a.m. After that we went to the Mangrove forest. It took us 10 min to get there. We took many photos in the forest and rented a boat to see the view of the forest from the water. At 12:00p.m. we set off back to Phnom Penh. We had lunch in Pich Nil at 2:30p.m. We arrived at school at 5:30p.m. In closing we would like to say thanks to Mr. Yafes for our trip together and we are waiting for other trips we would like to take soon...... 9-C Trip To Kirirom On the 31st of October the 9C class took a trip to Kirirom. This trip was our 2nd trip since the beginning of the new academic year. During guidance hour Mr. Enis asked our class where we wanted to go that week and we came up with two ideas. One was Kirirom and another was the waterpark. Some had voted for the waterpark but most of our class voted for Kirirom. Since there were more votes for Kirirom than for the waterpark, Mr. Enis chose Kirirom for our trip. 9 students and 2 teachers went on this trip. Sophea, Piseth, R a t a n a k , H e a n g , R i t h y, Sopheak, Punnreay, Ty hor, and Solin were the 9 students that w e n t . M r. E n i s a n d o u r supervisor Mr. Niyaz were there also. In the morning we were to meet each other around 7:00 am but by the time all the people arrived it was late so we hurried and went to the 3A bakery. When we arrived there Mr. Enis went to buy donuts and pizza for us but all that food wasn't enough and some student had 2 pieces because some of us had just finished eating breakfast before they came. At 8:00 we left Phnom Penh and continued our fun. On the way we sang, made fun of each other, played "Naruto", and slept. It took us 2 hours straight without stopping to get there. When we arrived there we couldn't wait to play and eat. After our homeroom teacher paid the fee we all hurried in and started taking pictures and running around like chickens. After we took some picture we went to the poolside and started changing our clothes and began jumping in the pool. I was the first one in the pool, followed by Ratanak and Piseth and the rest. Me and Ratanak were always teasing Piseth and we jumped over him so many times his leg began to hurt and we helped him get out of the pool. But we forgot our soccer ball and our drinks in the car so I had to go back to the car with Ratanak and then hurry back to the pool. After we had played a lot one of the workers there started playing some music, but the music was terrible so I asked him to play the music

from my phone instead. All of our friends heard the song "Fire" and "I don’t care" by 2ne1 and started shouting and dancing and we all started swimming and playing again. We kept changing the song because we had a lot of people request many different songs. We couldn't decide at first between "Garra Garaa Go" and "It you" and in the end we choose "Garra Garra Go". Around 12 o’clock Mr. Enis called us for lunch and we went happily because we were starving due to having played too much. So we went up and started cleaning ourselves and then started having lunch. I was sitting with Sopheak, Mr.Enis, and our supervisor but unfortunately for Ratanak he was sitting with Heang and Ty Hor and those two eat a lot. Both of them ate a lot of chicken and Ratanak had only 5 pieces. After that the French fries arrived and those two ate them all and didn’t leave anything for Ratanak. I was so happy because my table had only 2 people eating, me and Sopheak. After our lunch finished we went to the rope riding place but on the way we went to look at some animals and we took some pictures under the UFO, which we prefer to our friend Jason. After a lot of long climbing we arrived at that rope sliding place. Ratanak was the first one to try

but suddenly he got stuck in the middle because the wire got stuck. The worker fixed that and he arrived safely at the bottom and I was the second to try and arrived safely. All of us went down but for Heang; he was so scared he almost began to cry but he didn’t. As we went back Mr. Enis said we could try to paddle the boat, which some of us tried. As for me, I went back with Ratanak and Rithy to the pool and started swimming again. We expected it to rain but it didn’t so that was sad for us because it was also very hot that d a y. A r o u n d 2 : 3 0 p m o u r homeroom teacher called us and

told us to leave and we started changing and soon we headed back to Phnom Penh. It was 5pm when we arrived but on the way we talked so much that we didn't notice it when we arrived at ZIS. When we arrived we started calling our parents uncles, and brothers to come to take us home. Thanks to our homeroom teacher and our supervisor for organizing this unforgettable trip and we wish that we can go somewhere like that again. Written by Sophea 8807

The Joy at Soriya Shopping Centre On Saturday the 16th our class, 8E, arranged a trip to Soriya Shopping Center. We met each other at school and then went by bus to Soriya. On our way to Soriya we talked about what we were going to play and where. When we arrived at Soriya there were three students waiting for us there because their houses are close to Soriya. Then Mrs. Grace, our homeroom teacher, and Ms. Shirin, our assistant teacher, asked if we had already eaten breakfast. We hadn't had breakfast yet so we asked our teachers if we could eat in the food court. We bought coupons then we ordered some Chinese noodles or soup for our breakfast. After we had our breakfast we headed to the fifth floor to play some games. First, we wanted to play games but when we saw the 4 D theatre we were so excited and we rushed over to buy tickets for 4 D. We asked the ticket seller to give us the scariest movie, which was number 7, so some of our friends bought the tickets for that ride. We all wanted to watch at the same time but there were only five seats available at a time. Each ride lasted for 10 minutes only. We could see our friends riding from the screen outside. They were all screaming but we were laughing. They were screaming so loud that a smiling

group of people gathered to watch them. We enjoyed 4D so much we rode many times but always watching different movies. Then some of us went rollerblading while the others played games inside. We played until 1 o’clock, and then we went downstairs to eat lunch

at Pizza Company. After a delicious lunch we went back upstairs to check out the Ghost house. Some students were having fun but some others were scared. We took some photos together and then said goodbye to each other after a fun filled day. We enjoyed everything....

Two Days at Dormitory For 8-E On the 19th and 20th of January in the afternoon, some students of 8E prepared for our exciting day at the dormitory. January 19th (1st day) after school; we collected our bags and got on a bus with Miss Shirin, which brought us to the dormitory. When we arrived, we went noisily up to our bedrooms. We changed clothes and went down for dinner. When we finished our dinner we rested for fifteen minutes, then we rushed to the study hall at the 1st floor for some studying. Two hours later, it was time for tea. There was a very delicious cake made by our homeroom teacher, Mrs. Grace; mangoes, watermelon, chips, and of course, tea. We took some photos and watched TV while eating all of that. Our yummy teatime had ended, and we went to have another hour of studying. We studied quietly for a full hour. Suddenly shower time had come and we could clean ourselves before bed. But we realized that we didn’t want to sleep at all, we just wanted to chat. We made too much noise and Ms. Shirin, who was on duty, came inside our room and told us to go to sleep and not to make any more noise. On the morning of January 20th, we took a shower and went downstairs to eat breakfast and wait for the bus. We happily arrived at school and told our friends about the first night at dormitory. It was raining when

school finished so we got right on the bus. We took some pictures when we arrived at the house, then we changed our clothes and had dinner followed by study.etc. For tea time we had ice cream, pizza, grapefruit, mangoes, chips, and tea. After taking some photos we rested about half an hour while the teachers were preparing a video and a bigger space for Kolbasti dancing. We learnt some steps and tried to

dance but we couldn’t get it right. After a very tiring but enjoyable evening, we had a shower and chatted with each other (teachers too), and of course we slept at the same time as the previous night. Suddenly, it was morning already, it felt like just a few hours had passed so we woke up lazily and ......after breakfast we got ready for school with our suitcases as that was the end of

our 2 night stay at the dormitory. We had so much fun! We would like to thank our homeroom teacher Mrs. Grace and Ms. Shirin for accompanying us to the most fabulous experience of our lives. Class: 8E Pichroath Chhim ID: 8716 Vorack Thyda NeyID: 8928

ACTIVITIES

10-F At Dormitory Monday was our first day at the dormitory. Pisey, Lyhoung, Sivhong, Poryi, Tida, Bonita and myself stayed in the dormitory all week till Friday afternoon. There were a lot of activities that we did in the Dormitory, such as cooking, washing dishes, studying, playing, singing etc. On the first day some students took their luggage to school when they left their house in the morning. Some students brought their luggage after school. Students who had already brought their luggage to school were driven to the dormitory by Mr. Mustafa Ercan because there were no taxis nearby. Other students were dri ven there by their parents. When we arrived at dormitory our homeroom teacher and the supervisors gave us a warm welcome with fabulous smiles and friendly words. Ms. Sibel walked us around the house and showed us each room. The dormitory is very big and beautiful. There are many bedrooms and we loved it. Especially our bedrooms. Soon after, the dinner time came, our food was delicious. Teachers had ordered it from the school canteen. After dinner we helped our teachers to wash the dishes. Then we studied for 90 minutes. We had to sleep at 9:30, because it’ s the dormitory’ s rule, but we couldn’ t sleep because we were still hungry. So we asked permission from our teacher to eat something and she gave us only 10 min. to finish cooking and eating. Then we started to cook noodles for about 5 min. It was so hot and spicy but it tasted good, the teacher also ate with us. While we were eating she took some funny pictures of us. On the second day we woke up so early, around 5:30, to get ready for school because there is only 1 bathroom. After we had had breakfast we caught a tuk

tuk to school. That was so fun, on the way to school everybody was looking at us. And we arrived at school about 7:20am. After the classes had finished that day we went back to the dormitory. On Tuesday night we had a visit from Mrs. Serap. She was helping us study and had dinner with us before leaving at 9pm. On Wednesday after school I went to the supermarket with Ms. Sibel to buy milk, yogurt and food to stock up for the rest of the week. Thursday after school was a special night for us because it was our last night at dormitory. We only studied for 1 hour and the rest of the time we were helping our teacher bake some cake for tea-time. We decorated our cake with an interesting design to say ‘’Thank you‘’ to our teachers for having welcomed us.

During tea-time we were watching a Turkish movie and then a Disney movie. It was a bit late for us when we finally went to bed because that day had been such a tiring day. So we slept very well that night. That night is the sweetest memory for us, and we will never ever forget it: The next day was the day that we went back home. When we left school, we had to

go to the dormitory to collect our stuff, but we didn’t want to leave, we wanted to stay with each other. We will really miss our teachers and all the things we did there. We will never forget those days. Finally, we would like to say thank you to our teachers for trying to make us comfortable. We just want to tell you that 10F loves you as much as you love us.

ACTIVITIES

A Wonderful Breakfast For 9-F On the 13th of March, 10 students from 9f gathered at the new girls’ dormitory. Miss Shirin and a few other teachers had prepared breakfast for us. We were all supposed to meet up at 9 but we all met up at around 9.30 instead. When most of us had arrived, we all went for a look around the house. It was a big villa, much bigger than the old one; we all liked it very much. The bedrooms were big and even the bathrooms were big. We took pictures and then went back downstairs to help prepare the table. We had fun bringing all the dishes of delicious food from the kitchen to the living room. We waited for awhile before Mrs. Grace arrived. She arrived with big bottles of fruit juice and a freshly baked cake. There were french fries, pizza, sausages, cake, chocolate, olives, omelettes, cheese spring rolls, and so much more. We all ate while laughing at the jokes we made. When we were about to finish, a friend phoned us to go and pick her up nearby. We got the teacher’s permission to go and pick her up. When we got back, we all waited for her to finish eating. After we all finished, Mrs. Grace suggested that we watch a movie together but most of us had already seen the film so we decided to play ‘’Ou’’. We all played except for Lyly, and with Sevde and Sevval joining us it was the best game ever. We laughed at the jokes that we made while playing. Mrs. Grace and Miss Shirin watched us playing with smiles on their faces, and we were all very happy to see that. We played for about half an hour until we decided that we wanted to play hide and seek. We didn’t finish the game because Mrs. Grace told us that there was somebody sleeping and she didn’t want us to disturb her, so we went back downstairs. We were hungry again so we asked Mrs. Grace’s permission for us to go to the nearby market to buy some snacks. Even though there were 10 students overall only 5 went along with Miss Shirin because we couldn’t all fit on only two motorbikes. We bought mangoes and some other fruit

and then went back. When we got back, the others were watching the movie that was supposed to be shown earlier. We ate while watching the film together. Mrs. Grace took pictures of us as a wonderful memory that we’d all remember. Suddenly, we realized that it was 12 and we knew that it was time

to leave even though we wanted to stay longer. Viriya, Fanita and I went back to school to prepare for the chemistry demo that we had signed up for. To sum it all up, we all had fun and we agreed that it had been one of the best activities we’ve ever had and we’re hoping to have another fantastic time like this one again

before the school year ends. We want to thank Mrs. Grace and Miss Shirin so very much for all the fabulous activities we’ve had with them so far. Prepared by: Akchhara Chharom 7722/9F

A Lovely Friendship With Homeroom Teacher Of 10-A On Monday the 15th we wondered why our homeroom teacher didn’t come to school. Then Mr. Selmani told us that he was injured while he was playing football on Sunday. That shocked us and made us sad. Mr. Selmani told us that it was a serious injury and he couldn’t come to school for a week. His absence has been making problems for us because we used to discuss and do things with him. If there isn’t Mr. Nuri beside us while we are attending school it is like drinking coffee w i t h o u t s u g a r. A l m o s t immediately we decided to visit him at his house. That afternoon the last bell started ringing “Ring Ring Ring” and we went to visit him at his house, which is close to Zaman Primary School. We set off with Mr. Selmani and Mr. Halil and at 4.30pm we reached Zaman Primary. We took the opportunity to visit our grade 8 homeroom teacher, Mr. Isa, whom we have missed. By the way, we were kindly welcomed by Mr. Isa and we took some photos with him. After that we went to Mr. Nuri’s apartment. We saw how bad the injury was he had gotten. Anyway, we said hello to him and asked “How are you? How is it? Are you ok?” This

is a good way to visit someone who is sick. He told us that he will definitely go back to school after 5 days. We had some drinks there and discussed things about our class, etc.

We promised him that we would make our class successful even without him. Then after some time, we refused to go back home and told him “Get well soon my teacher”. He was surprised that his students were being so

good to him. Mr. Nuri is a lovely respectful teacher, and we like him so much. Prepared by Diamond, 10A ********&********

hina – 21st century superpower?

If you were lucky and skilled enough to get a job at the Wanfeng car factory near Shanghai in China, you would start every morning in the same way, with an energetic exercise routine, performed with your coworkers to loud music. You would regularly attend classes which stress the importance of team work and dedication to your job, and your hours would be long. You would use electric drills and other hand tools, rather than the sophisticated robotic machinery used by workers in most Western car factories. And your annual salary would be about the same as what employees earn in a month in Detroit, capital of the US car industry. But you would

also have the knowledge that you are working in a country that is about to become the number one economic superpower in the 21st century. So what makes China’s future so promising? Perhaps it is because China has the greatest natural resource on the planet: a population of nearly 1.5 billion people, which in turn creates the world’s largest workforce. In the mid-1990s, the Wanfeng car factory made motorcycle wheels, and nothing else; today, it produces 60,000 sports vehicles a year, equipped with luxuries such as leather seats and DVD players. And because the factory spends little on machinery and wages, it can sell its luxury vehicles for a third of the price of a similar car in the West.

about 10% per year. Compare that to the 3.5% rate of the USA, and 2% of the European Union. But it’s not all bad news for the West. A family with cupboards full of cheap clothes and a DVD player in every room has all that because of the price of products from China. Nobody can predict with any certainty the long-term effect of China’s transformation on the world economy, but one thing seems very likely: the 21st century will belong to China. (a) How does the working day start at the Wanfeng car factory? (b) Give two ways in which the car production process in the

and the factories they work in now produce more toys, shoes and clothing than any other country in the world, and has also become the world’s largest maker of electronics, such as TVs, DVD players and mobile phones. As a result, the value of all China’s goods and services produced in one year has quadrupled since 1978, and continues to grow at a rate of

(c) What is a benefit of working in the Chinese car industry? (d) What did the car factory produce in the late 20th century? (e) Give six other items which are produced in China. (f) According to the graph, by how much has the annual value of China’s products increased since the 1970s? (g) Based on what you have read, give six reasons why China is about to become the number one economic superpower in the 21st century.

SCIENCE CHALLENGE

Identical bulbs, batteries and ammeters are used in the circuits above. Wanfeng isn’t the first factory to use the vast Chinese workforce as a replacement for machinery, but it is an excellent example of how competitive China has become. Management costs are also lower than in the West, where a workforce of 5,000 might need over 100 managers; in China, the figure is more likely to be 15. Chinese workers are flexible and hard-working,

West is different from that in China.

a. In which circuit, the ammeter registers the smallest current? b. In which circuit, the bulb is the brightest? c. In which circuit, the battery lasts the longest?

MATHEMATICS CHALLENGE 1.What is the half of 2100? 2.Solve the equation tan 2x – 3 cot 2x = 0, for 0° < x < 180°. Send your answers for all three challenges to info@zamanuniversity.com. Winners will be announced in the next issue.
