that wash everything naturally EN - In a beautiful and isolated place such as the Gili islands, one can truly understand the importance of taking care of nature. There is the visible pollution, like plastic waste, but also the invisible water contamination done by detergent. How can we reduce our impact on the environment in a region where it is certainly difficult to access organic products? A little nut, used in Asia for centuries might be the solution: the soap nut produces saponin naturally, a non-polluting and multi-use substance. Are soap nuts the future of the Gili islands? FR - Dans un endroit aussi beau et isolé que les îles Gili, on ne peut que mesurer l’importance de prendre soin de la nature. Nous avons tous conscience de la pollution visible, tel les déchets plastiques, mais il ne faut pas oublier la contamination invisible de l’eau par les détergeant. Alors, comment limiter notre impact écologique dans ces régions où il est difficile de trouver des produits non-polluants ? La solution réside sans doute dans une noix utilisée en Asie, les fruits de l’arbre à savon qui fabriquent une substance lavante et multi-usage. La noix de lavage serait-elle l’avenir des îles Gili ?

The three Gili Islands, composed of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air are located off the northwest coast of Lombok. In Sasak language, "gili" means "small island. " There are more than 30 Gilis around Lombok but Trawangan, Meno and Air are by far the most frequently visited. Because of their proximity to the equator, they have a tropical climate throughout the year with an average air temperature of 28C and water temperatures ranging from 26 to 29C. The rainy season runs from November to April and the dry season from May to October. The Gilis bathe in the Bali Sea, at the convergence of the Indian and Pacific Oceans and enjoy a drier Gililife 18

micro-climate than the rest of Indonesia due in part to the fact that they are situated between two great volcanoes- Mount Rinjani on Lombok and Mount Agung on Bali. Like the majority of the Lombok community, the inhabitants of the Gili Islands are primarily Muslim and each island has a mosque(s) emitting sounds of live prayer five times daily. Bahasa Indonesia is the national language spoken that unites all of the country’s islands but Gili locals speak Sasak Gili Air which is slightly different to Sasak Lombok.About 200 years ago, fishermen from Sulawesi of Makassar, Bugis and Mandar ethnicities arrived on

the Gili Islands. They began to settle temporarily because of the abundance of fish in the sea and the presence of fresh water on Gili Air and at that time, sectioning off a bit of land with string was enough to claim it. These otherwise nomadic people began to settle in the Gilis and cultivate the land, planting peanuts, tapioca and corn whilst continuing their tradition of fishing. They sold and exchanged their produce in the markets of Lombok and also traded portions of their land for livestock, rice and other much needed items not native to the islands. Coconut palms are indigenous to the Gilis while mango, banana and papaya trees have been

introduced over the years. The first Western traveler to set foot on the Gili Islands came in 1984 to Gili Air. By the mid 1990’s Bali had gained international recognition as a travel destination and the Gilis began to be known as an off-the-beaten-track paradise escape. Today, the Gili Islands are flourishing and are attracting all types of visitors from every corner of the globe. Over time, the people of the Gili Islands have adapted to a multitude of changes and cultural immersions but have managed to maintain their cultural identity. Historically the people here have seen their days of hardship when during WWII, Lombok and the Gili Islands were occupied by Japanese forces. The islands were used to contain prisoners of war and the locals endured forced labour. A hill situated on the south of Trawangan was used as a lookout post and today remnants of the bunker still remain. Trawangan derived it's name from the Indonesian word "terowongan" meaning "tunnels" of which a network were dug by the occupying forces. The holes have since been filled in. Le premier étranger venu de l'occident est arrivé en 1984 à Gili Air et les premiers touristes, dans les années 90 lorsque Bali a acquis sa réputation mondiale ! Aujourd'hui, les îles Gilis sont de plus en plus populaires et séduisent un bon nombre de voyageurs venus de différentes horizons. Au fil du temps, les habitants des îles Gili se sont adaptés à une multitude de changements et d'immersions culturelles, mais ont réussi à conserver leur identité. Historiquement, ils ont vécu des moments difficiles. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l'île de Lombok et les Gilis étaient occupées par les forces japonaises. Les îles ont été utilisées pour maintenir les prisonniers de guerre et les habitants ont subi le travail forcé. Une colline située au sud de Trawangan a été utilisée comme poste d'observation et aujourd'hui les vestiges d'un bunker demeurent. When you hear about Gili T you probably also hear the words "party island" yeah? Thought we should just address that straight away! Gili T gained this title because it is the largest of the three northern Gili Islands with the most development, hence it offers the greatest abundance of everything- including nightlife. There are fantastic parties every night of the week that attract large crowds of people from all different walks of life and every corner of the globe. Nightly features start with a sizzling local food market and advance into live music, beach parties and DJ's. There's also the option of watching movies screened at an open air beach "theatre." The rumored growth of Trawangan from a backpacker island into something of a glam island is supported by the unveiling Gililife 20

© ZHIVIRGO - Gililife of new upscale boutiques, restaurants, resorts, spas, and now a heli-pad, however, it remains a hub of charm for a wide spectrum of travelers. It's an iconic island of variety with numerous options for every budget/lifestyle for eating, sleeping (backpacker dorms to luxury villas), entertainment and activities. Gili T has extraordinarily beautiful beaches and shimmering ocean waters of crystal-clear visibility for diving and snorkeling. This island boasts some of the finest coral gardens and the widest range of dive centers with the best socializing opportunities. Although it is predominately known as a party island, Gili T has much more to it and venturing away from the densely developed east coast, you can find a plethora of vacant beaches. Renting a bicycle is a great way to see the island, bearing in mind there are some sandy patches! Seeing how life works here can be very eye-opening: it's not an escape from reality- just a slightly different one but understandably surreal nonetheless! There are several conservation organizations based here including Gili Eco Trust (GET) and The Gili Shark Foundation- ask around (try dive centers) about how you can get involved! As you may know- there is no motorized transport in the Gilis and what a soothing break that can be! Surfing is popular off the south and it's not unwise to speak to locals about the break. For a supreme viewpoint walk up the hill on the south that was previously used as a lookout during WW II.

C'est la plaque tournante de charme pour un grand nombre de voyageurs. Trawangan est l'île du choix et convient à tous les budgets et à tous les styles de vie. Que vous soyez "routards" ou que vous recherchiez un logement de grand standing, tout est possible. La nourriture est très diverse et internationale, vous aurez aussi un grand choix d'activités et de divertissements ! Gili T possède de très belles plages aux eaux limpides et cristallines idéales pour la plongée et la balade aquatique en masque, palme, tuba (snorkeling).

Cette île possède quelques-uns des plus beaux jardins de corail et le plus grand nombre de centres de plongée. Bien qu'elle soit surtout connue comme une île "de fête", Gili T cache un nature dense et douce, aventurez-vous loin des côtes pour découvrir la magnifique cocoteraie ou les plages désertes de la côte ouest. N'ayant aucun transport motorisé aux îles Gilis, la location d'un vélo est un excellent moyen de découvrir l'île, et aussi une expérience aventureuse ! La vie ici est surréaliste, c'est un mélange d'exotisme et de vie occidentale ! Il existe plusieurs organisations de conservation sur Gili T comme Gili Eco Trust (GET), Gili Shark Fondation et bien d'autres... Demandez autour de vous, dans les centres de plongée comment vous impliquer ! Set between Gili Air and Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno arguably offers the finest beaches of all the Gili Islands. The sands are white and soft beneath your feet and you can relax on vacant stretches of beach lined with coconut trees. Meno is the real escape to paradise where you can fill your days with activities like diving, snorkeling, surfing or just simply taking in the tranquil views. This island is a treasure of local lifestyle where time seems to bend and life seems to slow down. It is the least developed island where you can completely relax amongst abundant nature- Meno is a holiday within a holiday. Here you can walk or take a cidomo (horse&cart) to attractions such as the salt lake where it's possible to spot rare blue kingfishers and the elusive island monitor lizard, or venture to the eerie remnants of an abandoned resort- where a popular wreck-dive site exists just offshore. There are no bicycle rentals in Meno but it's possible to walk the island in an hour. Gili Meno offers great selections of local and western restaurants and most places serve a variety of the two. There are also traditional warungs

for popular local dish- nasi campur. There is a variety of accommodation on Meno and your options range from backpacker dorms, beachfront and village bungalows to luxury villas, apartments and resorts. There is also open air barugastyle accommodation for the true outdoorsmen- er, and women! Other points of interest on Meno include a bird park and the turtle conservation pools (which run entirely on donations). This island is primarily popular amongst couples and those seeking a more enlightening, recharging time. Yoga and meditation are up there with diving and honeymooning for making Gili Meno an ideal travel destination. In the past, Meno was said to have a mosquito problem but this is not the case- in the wet season there are normal levels of what you would expect in a tropical place, perhaps even less, and in the dry season- tidak apa apa- no problem!! ➜ Gili Meno is the island of sweet simplicity and nature where you will sigh with happiness Située entre Gili Air et Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno possède sans doute les plus belles plages de toutes les îles Gili . Il n'y a pas de location de vélos à Meno mais il est possible de faire le tour de l'île en une heure. Gili Meno propose une grande sélection de restaurants locaux et occidentaux et la plupart des lieux servent une variété des deux. Il y a aussi les warungs (restaurants traditionnels) pour les populaires plats locaux comme le Nasi Campur. Il y a aussi plusieurs options d'hébergements : Baruga en plein air, bungalows en bord de mer, villas de luxe et resorts haut de gamme. Autres points d'intérêt sur Meno, le parc aux oiseaux (Bird Park) et le centre de conservation des tortues (Meno Turtle Conservation), essentiellement

financé par des dons. Cette île est surtout appréciée par les couples en lune de miel et les personnes qui recherchent une détente absolue. D'ailleurs, pourquoi pas essayer le yoga ! Meno est une destination idéale pour la méditation. Dans le passé, Meno avait une mauvaise réputation à cause de la présence des moustiques. Il n'en est rien. Do you know about the...The Sumba horse? Connaissez-vous le...Cheval de Sumba?

Because of their small size, Sumba horses are actually considered ponies. In fact, their average height is around 12 hands high. They can be different colours, but in the Gilis you will mainly see dark brown or cream-coloured ponies. They have a big head and a short neck, fine and strong legs. They are small but strong, agile and known for their endurance and fiery temperament. En raison de leur petite stature, les chevaux de Sumba sont considérés comme des poneys, ils n''atteignent que 1,20 m de hauteur maximum. Ils peuvent être de couleurs différentes, mais aux Gilis vous verrez principalement des poneys marron foncé ou de couleur crème. La tête est grosse, le cou et court et les jambes sont fines et puissantes. Ils sont petits mais forts, agiles et connus pour leur résistance et leur tempérament fougueux.

HABITAT

All the horses you see in the Gilis come from the island of Sumba in the Lesser Sunda islands of Eastern Indonesia and the breed is aptly named Sumba horse. They are believed to have descended from Mongolian and ancient Chinese breeds. They are bred in and transported by boat from Sumba to Lombok full-grown or as fowls and are grown to full strength here. Some breeding takes place in Lombok, but generally is not done in the Gilis. Diet - ALIMENTATION

Sumba horses live solely on grass, hay and water. It is the responsibility of the cidomo driver to look after the needs of the animal. In dry season, drivers buy the grass from Lombok and you can hear them complaining about how much they spend to find yummy grass to feed their ponies!! Les chevaux de Sumba vivent uniquement d'herbe, de foin et d'eau. Il est de la responsabilité du conducteur de cidomo de s'occuper de tous les besoins du cheval. Pendant la saison sèche, les conducteurs achètent l'herbe à Lombok et on peut les entendre se plaindre du prix qu'ils paient pour nourrir les chevaux !

This breed of horse was used in battle and is also used for racing.

The cidomos you see today have existed as a traditional means of transport in Lombok and the Lesser Sunda islands for many years. They were brought to the Gilis to move coconuts and materials but are now used mainly to transport travelers. Cette race de cheval était utilisée dans les batailles et est toujours employée dans les compétitions. Les cidomos d'aujourd'hui existaient auparavant comme moyen de transport traditionnel à Lombok et les petites îles de la Sonde. Ils ont été amenés aux Gilis pour déplacer les noix de coco et les différents matériaux, mais aujourd'hui ils sont principalement utilisés pour transporter les voyageurs.

MANTA POINT

Easy site situated in the south-west of GILI T... Site facile, situé au sud-est de Gili Trawangan... Manta Point is actually a gentle slope going to around 25 meters depth. Interesting for its soft and hard corals: Star, Branching coral, Giant Table coral, Sea Fan or Anemone where Clownfish, Damselfish, Moray, worms and Feather worm, as well as Octopus, Cuttlefish, Green and Hawksbill Turtle. In the deep part you will find an expanse of sand where it is not rare to see Reef Sharks, Whitetip and Blacktip and Stingray. During the dive you will have the possibility to meet Titan Triggerfish, Redtooth, Sweetlips, and school of Snapper... If you dive in the rainy season, certainly the visibility may be poor, but if you look properly you might see Devil Ray or Manta Ray. This dive site is suitable for all and will make everybody happy. Manta Point est en fait un léger tombant allant jusqu'à environ 25 mètres de profondeur. Intéressant pour ses coraux durs et mous : coraux étoilés, branchus, tabulaires géants, gorgones ou anémones, dans lesquels viennent se protéger des poissons clowns, demoiselles, murènes, vers et sabelles indiennes, ainsi que des poulpes, sèches, tortues vertes et imbriquées. Dans la partie plus profonde, vous trouverez une étendue de sable où il n'est pas rare de voir des requins de récif pointes blanches et pointes noires, et des raies pastenagues. Tout au long de la plongée vous aurez la possibilité de rencontrer des balistes titans et balistes bleus, gaterins, ou banc de vivaneaux... Et en plongeant lors de la saison des pluies, certes la visibitilé risque d'être plus limitée, mais si vous regardez bien vous verrez peutêtre passer des raies diables ou une raie manta. Fromia nodosa, or elegant sea star, is a species of marine sea star that is sometimes mistaken for other close species such as the Fromia monilis. Fromia nodosa have five arms radiating around a central disc, thin, triangular arms and a red-orange coloured body, which can sometimes be blue or light purple. The body of the elegant sea star is covered in large rounded plates that get smaller towards the tips of the arms. The plates are a distinctive feature which allow it to be differentiated from the Fromia monilis. Adult individuals can grow up to 8 cm. Fromia nodosa, ou étoile de mer élégante, est une espèce d'étoile de mer qui est parfois confondue pour d'autres espèces proches telles que la Fromia monilis. La Fromia nodosa a cinq bras arrangés autour d'un disque central. Ses bras sont fins et triangulaires et son corps rouge-orange ou parfois bleu-violet. HABITAT

The elegant sea star is found across the Western Indo-Pacific, usually living between the surface and 35 m of depth. L'étoile de mer élégante vit dans l'océan Indo-Pacifique occidentale, généralement entre la surface et 35m de profondeur.

DIET - ALIMENTATION

Elegant sea stars are nocturnal creatures, who crawl on the seabottom to search for prey. They mainly feed on bivalve molluscs, corals and small organisms and ingest them externally. In fact, like other sea stars, when it is time to eat Fromia nodosa push out their stomach to engulf and digest prey. REPRODUCTION

Like other sea stars, Fromia nodosa can reproduce sexually or asexually. Sexual reproduction is the best way to ensure genetic diversity. This happens by spawning; during mating season, sea stars gather in large groups, the arms of the males filled with sperm and those of the females filled with eggs, which they simultaneously release in the

water. Sometimes sea star protect their eggs by sitting on them or by keeping them between their arms. The soap nut comes from a tree of Indian origin, sapindus mukorossi. Its resin naturally produces saponin, a washing and antibacterial substance, which has always been used in Asia. Their production has a moderate impact on the environment as it is a crop that requires little processing and does not need too much water. The tree grows naturally on roadsides and is harvested by families of farmers for their own use and to make additional income. Easy to use and non-toxic, the soap nut is a solution to limit pollution and allergies caused by household products. La noix de lavage est issue d’un arbre d’origine indienne, le sapindus mukorossi. Sa résine produit naturellement de la saponine, une substance détergeante et antibactérienne, qui est utilisée depuis toujours en Asie. Leur production a un impacte modéré sur l’environnement car c’est une culture qui nécessite peu de procédés de transformation et n’est pas gourmand en eau. This natural product is anti-bacterial, anti-parasitic, and hypo-allergenic. It is very effective, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly. Best of all, soap nuts are multi-purpose as well. The nuts must be kept in cool and away from light. To make a decoction of soap nuts: put 15 nuts in 2L boiling water for 10 minutes, then let stand for1 hour. Strain and store in a refrigerator. Use 2 Gililife 52

tablespoons of this decoction diluted in 1L of water to create 1L of multi-purpose maintenance product. Nuts are reusable 2 more times. La noix de lavage est une perle pour l’entretien de la maison : à la fois antibactérien, antiparasite et nonallergisant, c’est un produit peu onéreux, écologique et multi-usage. Elles doivent se conserver au frais et à l’abri de la lumière. Pour faire une décoction de noix de lavage : faire bouillir 15 noix dans 2L d’eau pendant 10 mn, puis laisser reposer 1 heure. Filtrer et conserver au réfrigérateur. Utiliser 2 cuillères à soupe de cette décoction diluée dans 1L d’eau pour créer 1L de produit d’entretien multi-usage. Les noix sont réutilisables encore 2 fois.

For white laundry add even more baking soda which has a bleaching action. For washing with cold water, soak the clothes for 30 minutes prior to washing. Laundry that grows on the trees

La lessive que l’on cueille sur les arbres Soap nuts, sapindus mukorossi, are the fruit of a huge tree that grows in northern India and Nepal, which has been used as detergent and soap for millennia. This tree is not used for its wood, but it gives a product of first necessity to local people: it is used as an antibacterial, insecticide or shampoo, and is an ingredient in Ayurvedic medicine to cure skin diseases. The crop is not organized in large industrial farms: soap trees are usually grown by families on the edge of the field as a complementary source of revenue; nut picking is done by women and children. The nuts are harvested in November when ripe enough as their colour becomes dark brown. They are dried, peeled by hand, separated and packed in cloth bags, and then consumed locally or sent worldwide. We use only the shell of the soap nut that contains between 15-30% saponin, a natural foaming and washing agent that is found in other plants in smaller quantities such as chestnuts, spinach or cockle. Saponin dissolves in contact with hot water and functions as a natural detergent. Nuts are effective for washing clothes that are mildly dirty, but they are not really effective on tough stains or for whitening. For this, baking soda must be added and the clothes must be soaked before washing. The natural detergent Gililife 54

contained in nuts, saponin, poses no pollution issue compared to petrochemicals used in conventional detergents. Also, they do not contain additives. A kilo of nuts (about 25US$) would be enough to satisfy the needs of a family of 4 for one year. La noix de lavage, sapindus mukorossi est le fruit d’un arbre immense qui pousse au nord de l’Inde et au Népal, utilisé comme détergeant et savon depuis des millénaires. C’est un arbre non ligneux, on ne l’utilise pas pour son bois, qui donne un produit de première nécessité pour les populations locales. On l’emploie comme antibactérien, insecticide ou shampoing, et c’est un ingrédient utilisé en médecine ayurvédique pour guérir des maladies de peau. La culture des arbres à savon n’est pas organisée en grande exploitation industrielle : ils sont généralement cultivés par des familles en bordure des champs comme une source de revenue complémentaire, la cueillette est pratiquée par les femmes et les enfants. Les noix sont récoltées mûres en novembre lorsque leur couleur est marron foncé. Elles sont séchées, décortiquées à la main, séparées et empaquetées dans des sacs de toile, puis consommées localement ou envoyées dans le monde entier. On utilise uniquement la coque de la noix de lavage qui contient entre 15 à 30 % de saponine, un agent lavant et moussant naturel que l’on retrouve dans d’autres plantes en quantité moindre comme les marrons, les épinards ou la saponaire. La saponine se dissout au contact de l’eau chaude et opère comme une lessive naturelle. Les noix sont efficaces pour laver du linge un peu sale, mais leur action est limitée sur les tâches ou pour blanchir. Pour cette raison il faut ajouter du bicarbonate de soude et faire tremper le linge avant de le laver. Le détergent naturel contenu dans les noix étant la saponine, il ne pose pas de problème de pollution comparé aux tensioactifs d’origine pétrochimiques utilisés dans les lessives classiques. Aussi, elles ne contiennent pas d’additifs. Un kilo de noix (environ 20 €) suffirait à satisfaire les besoins d’une famille de 4 personnes pour un an.

Warung is one of the words in Bahasa Indonesian you are likely to hear more often. Meaning “small restaurant”, in Indonesia and in Malaysia a warung is an institution that indicates local food at a cheap price and in a familiar atmosphere. This word does not indicate the speed the meal will be served and it can be a fast food restaurant or a slow pace one according to what you decide to eat. If you go for nasi campur (mix rice), you will just have to pick what you want from the dishes on display and eat it right away. If you go for the warung best sellers such as mie goreng (fried noodles), nasi goreng (fried rice) or soto ayam (chicken soup), you will have the time to crack into a couple of krupuk (rice crackers) and burn your lips sipping a teh manis panas (sweetened hot tea) before you get served. En Malaisie et en Indonésie le warung est une institution qui indique de la nourriture locale à bon marche et dans une ambiance familiale. Le mot n'indique pas la vitesse dans laquelle on sert le repas et il peut s'agir de restauration rapide ou lente en fonction de ce que vous décidez de manger. Si vous prenez un "nasi campur" (riz mélangé), il vous suffira de choisir parmi les petites assiettes en vitrine et vous mangerez tout de suite. Si vous choisissez les best-sellers du warung tels quels les "mie goreng" (nouilles sautées), le "nasi goreng" ou le "soto ayam" (soupe de poulet), vous aurez le temps de craquer quelques "kerupuk" (crackers de riz) et de vous bruler les lèvres en buvant du "teh manis panas" (té chaud sucré) avant d'être servi. Si vous vous sentez aventureux et vous commandez des plats occidentaux qui sont dans le menu, vous risquez de passer toute la journée dans le warung pour finalement devenir un membre à part entière de la famille qui gère le restaurant !

20min Ingredients: - 3 eggs - 250g dark chocolate - 100g flour - 6 macadamia nuts - 200g sugar - 2 ripe avocados - 1 tea spoon coconut oil Ingrédients : - 3 oeufs - 250g de chocolat noir - 100g de farine - 6 noix de macadamia - 200g de sucre - 2 avocats bien mûrs - 1 cuil. à café d’huile de coco

Serves for 8 Pour 8 pers.

METHOD - PREPARATION Heat the oven at 180°. Melt the chocolate in a water-bath. In a bowl, mix together with a fork the eggs and sugar for a few minutes. Add the melted chocolate, mix together. Pour the flour on the bowl. Make a puree with the avocados and add it to the bowl. Smash the macadamia nuts and pour into the bowl, mix everything so to get a smooth dough. Put the oil into your cake pan, make sure it’s everywhere. Pour the dough inside and put in the oven for about 20 minutes. Préchauffer le four à 180°. Faire fondre le chocolat au bain-marie puis réserver. Dans un bol, fouetter ensemble les oeufs et le sucre pour faire blanchir le mélange. Ajouter le chocolat fondu, bien mélanger. Verser la farine en pluie, lisser le mélange. Ecraser à la fourchette ou au mixeur les avocats en purée fine, puis ajouter au mélange. Concasser grossièrement les noix de macadamia et les ajouter, bien remuer le tout pour que la pâte soit lisse. Huiler un plat et verser l’appareil et enfourner pour environ 20 minutes.

Fairy tales The magic nuts Les noix magiques

nce upon a time there was a young Indonesian girl who earned a living by washing clothes in the river. One day, while she was carrying a heavy bucket, she met an old woman in the forest. She had seen her washing clothes all day long, and by pity, she gave her some magic nuts. She advised her to say, "Wash, small nut, wash," and then she snapped her fingers to stop them. The girl recited the formula in front of the bucket, and the soap nuts immediately began to rub and foam, making the laundry clean and fragrant. She went home delighted and showed this wonder to her parents. Once the girl was asleep, the parents decided to show off these magic nuts to impress their neighbors. They recited the spell, and the nuts washed the floor, the walls, and even the hair of all the people! All were dumbfounded, but gradually they realized they could not stop this intense housecleaning. Nuts cleaned the whole village, the island, and the entire archipelago, nothing could stop them! Finally the little girl woke up and snapped her fingers. Since that day, soap nuts have lost their magic, but remain useful to clean anything. Il était une fois, une petite Indonésienne qui gagnait durement sa vie en lavant le linge dans la rivière. Un jour, alors qu’elle transportait un lourd baquet, elle croisa une vieille dame dans la forêt. Elle la voyait lessiver à longueur de journée, et par pitié, elle lui donna des noix magiques. Il fallait dire « Lave, petite noix, lave », pour qu’elles se mettent à laver, puis claquer des doigts pour les arrêter. La petite fille éberluée récita la formule devant son baquet, et immédiatement les noix de lavage se mirent à frotter et à mousser, rendant le linge propre et parfumé. Elle rentra chez elle, ravie, et montra ce prodige à sa mère. Une fois la fillette endormie, les parents voulurent montrer ces noix magiques aux voisines. Ils récitèrent la formule, et les noix lavèrent le sol, les murs, et même les cheveux de toutes les dames ! Tous étaient ébahis, mais petit à petit on se rendit compte que l’on ne pouvait plus arrêter ce ménage. Les noix frottèrent et briquèrent tout le village, puis l’île, puis l’archipel tout entier, rien ne les arrêtaient ! Finalement la petit fille se réveilla et claqua des doigts. Depuis ce jour, les noix de lavage ont perdu leur magie, mais restent bien utiles pour tout laver.

There are cidomos (horse and cart) available for hire on the three islands and bicycle rentals on GILI T, Gili Air and now Gili meno. Vous pouvez vous déplacer en Cidomo (charrette à cheval) sur les 3 îles ou louer un vélo sur Gili T, Gili Air et maintenant à Gili Meno

On Gili Air public boats leave to Lombok starting at 7:30am. Meno to Lombok, twice a day, at 8am and 3pm. And on Gili T starting at 7am until 5pm. Sur Gili Air les bateaux publics partent vers Lombok à partir de 7h30. Sur Gili Meno, deux fois par jour à 8h et 15h. Sur Gili T à partir de 7h du matin jusqu'à 17 h.

Sometimes there are power cuts on the 3 islands but the resorts have generators.

INTERNET - WIFI Internet cafes are in abundance on Gili T- mainly on the developed east. On Gili Air there are 3 internet cafes and there are 2 on Meno (see map for locations). credit card in most dive centers and resort hotels, however, cash remains the only form of payment for most accommodation/food in The Gili's.
