The king of Fruit EN - You either love it or hate it. The strong smell, the sticky texture and the deep colour reminds some people of the delights of heaven and some others of rotten onions. The taste has been compared to french-kissing a corpse, but durian remains the favourite fruit of many people. Don't be shy, try it! You will not be able to bring it home due to public transportation restrictions, but during your stay you can indulge in the sweet, the bitter, the sour or the juicy durian to perhaps discover that you love it. FR - Vous l'aimez ou vous le détestez. L'odeur forte, la texture collante et la couleur intense rappelle quelques-uns des délices du paradis et d'autres d'oignons pourris. Le goût a été comparé à un baiser d'un cadavre, toutefois le durian reste le fruit préféré de beaucoup de personnes. Ne soyez pas timides et essayez-le ! Vous ne pourrez pas en ramener chez vous parce que ce fruit est interdit dans les transports en commun, mais pendant votre séjour vous pourrez savourer un durian doux, amer, aigre ou juteux et peut-être découvrir que vous adorez ce fruit !

The three Gili Islands, composed of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air are located off the northwest coast of Lombok. In Sasak language, "gili" means "small island. " There are more than 30 Gilis around Lombok but Trawangan, Meno and Air are by far the most frequently visited. Because of their proximity to the equator, they have a tropical climate throughout the year with an average air temperature of 28C and water temperatures ranging from 26 to 29C. The rainy season runs from November to April and the dry season from May to October. The Gilis bathe in the Bali Sea, at the convergence of the Indian and Pacific Oceans and enjoy a drier Gililife 18

micro-climate than the rest of Indonesia due in part to the fact that they are situated between two great volcanoes- Mount Rinjani on Lombok and Mount Agung on Bali. Like the majority of the Lombok community, the inhabitants of the Gili Islands are primarily Muslim and each island has a mosque(s) emitting sounds of live prayer five times daily. Bahasa Indonesia is the national language spoken that unites all of the country’s islands but Gili locals speak Sasak Gili Air which is slightly different to Sasak Lombok.About 200 years ago, fishermen from Sulawesi of Makassar, Bugis and Mandar ethnicities arrived on

the Gili Islands. They began to settle temporarily because of the abundance of fish in the sea and the presence of fresh water on Gili Air and at that time, sectioning off a bit of land with string was enough to claim it. These otherwise nomadic people began to settle in the Gilis and cultivate the land, planting peanuts, tapioca and corn whilst continuing their tradition of fishing. They sold and exchanged their produce in the markets of Lombok and also traded portions of their land for livestock, rice and other much needed items not native to the islands. Coconut palms are indigenous to the Gilis while mango, banana and papaya trees have been

introduced over the years. The first Western traveler to set foot on the Gili Islands came in 1984 to Gili Air. By the mid 1990’s Bali had gained international recognition as a travel destination and the Gilis began to be known as an off-the-beaten-track paradise escape. Today, the Gili Islands are flourishing and are attracting all types of visitors from every corner of the globe. Over time, the people of the Gili Islands have adapted to a multitude of changes and cultural immersions but have managed to maintain their cultural identity. Historically the people here have seen their days of hardship when during WWII, Lombok and the Gili Islands were occupied by Japanese forces. The islands were used to contain prisoners of war and the locals endured forced labour. A hill situated on the south of Trawangan was used as a lookout post and today remnants of the bunker still remain. Trawangan derived it's name from the Indonesian word "terowongan" meaning "tunnels" of which a network were dug by the occupying forces. The holes have since been filled in. Aujourd'hui, les îles Gilis sont de plus en plus populaires et séduisent un bon nombre de voyageurs venus de différentes horizons. Au fil du temps, les habitants des îles Gili se sont adaptés à une multitude de changements et d'immersions culturelles, mais ont réussi à conserver leur identité. Historiquement, ils ont vécu des moments difficiles. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l'île de Lombok et les Gilis étaient occupées par les forces japonaises. Les îles ont été utilisées pour maintenir les prisonniers de guerre et les habitants ont subi le travail forcé. Une colline située au sud de Trawangan a été utilisée comme poste d'observation et aujourd'hui les vestiges d'un bunker demeurent. When you hear about Gili T you probably also hear the words "party island" yeah? Thought we should just address that straight away! Gili T gained this title because it is the largest of the three northern Gili Islands with the most development, hence it offers the greatest abundance of everything- including nightlife. There are fantastic parties every night of the week that attract large crowds of people from all different walks of life and every corner of the globe. Nightly features start with a sizzling local food market and advance into live music, beach parties and DJ's. There's also the option of watching movies screened at an open air beach "theatre." The rumored growth of Trawangan from a backpacker island into something of a glam island is supported by the unveiling Gililife 20

of new upscale boutiques, restaurants, resorts, spas, and now a heli-pad, however, it remains a hub of charm for a wide spectrum of travelers. It's an iconic island of variety with numerous options for every budget/lifestyle for eating, sleeping (backpacker dorms to luxury villas), entertainment and activities. Gili T has extraordinarily beautiful beaches and shimmering ocean waters of crystal-clear visibility for diving and snorkeling. This island boasts some of the finest coral gardens and the widest range of dive centers with the best socializing opportunities. Although it is predominately known as a party island, Gili T has much more to it and venturing away from the densely developed east coast, you can find a plethora of vacant beaches. Renting a bicycle is a great way to see the island, bearing in mind there are some sandy patches! Seeing how life works here can be very eye-opening: it's not an escape from reality- just a slightly different one but understandably surreal nonetheless! There are several conservation organizations based here including Gili Eco Trust (GET) and The Gili Shark Foundation- ask around (try dive centers) about how you can get involved! As you may know- there is no motorized transport in the Gilis and what a soothing break that can be! Surfing is popular off the south and it's not unwise to speak to locals about the break. For a supreme viewpoint walk up the hill on the south that was previously used as a lookout during WW II.

Lorsque vous entendez parler de Gili T, vous entendez souvent dire que c'est l'île de la fête, n'est-ce pas ? La plus grande et la plus développée des trois îles Gili a gagné cette réputation car elle offre un large éventail de tout y compris pour la vie nocturne. Commencez par faire un petit tour sur la place du marché pour goûter les délicieux plats locaux, puis laissez-vous tenter par le son des concerts live, des DJ résidents, dans les différents bars ou sur la plage ! Il est aussi possible de visionner des films en plein air. Trawangan est l'îlot du "Glam" avec ses resorts, ses spas, ses restaurants chics, ses boutiques et son héliport ! C'est la plaque tournante de charme pour un grand nombre de voyageurs. Trawangan est l'île du choix et convient à tous les budgets et à tous les styles de vie. Que vous soyez "routards" ou que vous recherchiez un logement de grand standing, tout est possible. La nourriture est très diverse et internationale, vous aurez aussi un grand choix d'activités et de divertissements ! Gili T possède de très belles plages aux eaux limpides et cristallines idéales pour la plongée et la balade aquatique en masque, palme, tuba (snorkeling).

Cette île possède quelques-uns des plus beaux jardins de corail et le plus grand nombre de centres de plongée. Bien qu'elle soit surtout connue comme une île "de fête", Gili T cache un nature dense et douce, aventurez-vous loin des côtes pour découvrir la magnifique cocoteraie ou les plages désertes de la côte ouest. N'ayant aucun transport motorisé aux îles Gilis, la location d'un vélo est un excellent moyen de découvrir l'île, et aussi une expérience aventureuse ! La vie ici est surréaliste, c'est un mélange d'exotisme et de vie occidentale ! Il existe plusieurs organisations de conservation sur Gili T comme Gili Eco Trust (GET), Gili Shark Fondation et bien d'autres... Demandez autour de vous, dans les centres de plongée comment vous impliquer ! Pour un point de vue suprême, marchez jusqu'à la colline au sud, vous y trouverez un vestige (une batterie d'artillerie) de la seconde guerre mondiale.

Set between Gili Air and Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno arguably offers the finest beaches of all the Gili Islands. The sands are white and soft beneath your feet and you can relax on vacant stretches of beach lined with coconut trees. Meno is the real escape to paradise where you can fill your days with activities like diving, snorkeling, surfing or just simply taking in the tranquil views. This island is a treasure of local lifestyle where time seems to bend and life seems to slow down. It is the least developed island where you can completely relax amongst abundant nature- Meno is a holiday within a holiday. Here you can walk or take a cidomo (horse&cart) to attractions such as the salt lake where it's possible to spot rare blue kingfishers and the elusive island monitor lizard, or venture to the eerie remnants of an abandoned resort- where a popular wreck-dive site exists just offshore. There are no bicycle rentals in Meno but it's possible to walk the island in an hour. Gili Meno offers great selections of local and western restaurants and most places serve a variety of the two. There are also traditional warungs

for popular local dish- nasi campur. There is a variety of accommodation on Meno and your options range from backpacker dorms, beachfront and village bungalows to luxury villas, apartments and resorts. There is also open air barugastyle accommodation for the true outdoorsmen- er, and women! Other points of interest on Meno include a bird park and the turtle conservation pools (which run entirely on donations). This island is primarily popular amongst couples and those seeking a more enlightening, recharging time. Yoga and meditation are up there with diving and honeymooning for making Gili Meno an ideal travel destination. In the past, Meno was said to have a mosquito problem but this is not the case- in the wet season there are normal levels of what you would expect in a tropical place, perhaps even less, and in the dry season- tidak apa apa- no problem!! ➜ Gili Meno is the island of sweet simplicity and nature where you will sigh with happiness Située entre Gili Air et Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno possède sans doute les plus belles plages de toutes les îles Gili . Cows grazing in Gilis' green fields are a common sight on the islands; often attached to a leash and followed by their little ones, cows are a status among the local population and, as such, are taken care of as pets and considered precious belongings. Many families own one or more and, unlike Western cows, they are not exploited for dairy, but are sometimes killed for their meat on special occasions such as the end of Ramadan or the birth of a new member of the family. With their typical deer-look and sweet big eyes, Gili's cows are a peaceful presence on the island. Aux Gilis, il est courant de voir les vaches brouter dans les champs verts des îles. Description Gili cows belong to a species of domesticated wild cattle (Bos javanicus) found in Southeast Asia and commonly known as Bali cattle or Banteng. Females are light brown and males are of darker colour; both have a white muzzle and white “stockings”. They are an average of 1,60 mt tall and can weigh up to 900 kg. Although diurnal, in places with large human presence they tend to be more active during the Gililife 26

night. They typically feed on grass, fruit, leaves, branches and love munching tropical flowers; this is why you'll often see locals chasing cows away from their garden! Last year, The Air Festival brought in a wave of new experience and music to Gili Air. Not your typical full-moon fare, but the kind of underground dance music you’re more likely to hear in a London warehouse in the context of magical venues on the beach under the stars. So this Easter weekend, the Air Festival is back for 3 days and nights of totally electrifying music with an even more ambitious lineup of international musical talent. Equally intriguing as the musical curation and the possibility of great times, is the Air Festival’s commitment to giving back to the Island. From buying new football uniforms and a computer for the elementary school, to using as little plastic as possible, and working with Gili Cares on cleanup and waste removal.The organisers' goal is that the event will eventually become a fundraiser for community projects on the island. Nyepi, the Balinese New Year & day-of-silence see's everything shut down in Bali - yet on the Gilis there is something very exciting happening, allowing those limited for things to do, to take a music-and-eventfilled vacation on the dreamy little island of ‘Gili Air'. The 1st Nyepi Party in 2014, was held by bartenders & deejays who booked 1 entire boat of friends from Bali to Gili Air and kept it going for 3 days. The 2nd Party 2015, began to resemble a festival with a much larger crowd. This 3rd year 2016, Nyepi day falls on March 9th which is the same day as the Solar Eclipse and will be a full-fledged Ibiza-style ‘Fiesta' with a production that the Gilis have never seen. The organisers have promised to deliver a spectacle beyond our wildest expectations. Nyepi est le nouvel an balinais: c’est un jour de silence, où tout est fermé sur l’île de Bali. Alors, c’est justement le moment d’aller passer des vacances de rêve sur Gili Air, pour écouter de la bonne musique et faire la fête ! Also called "Coral Fan Garden", Halik is famous for its colorful corals. You may start the dive on the plateau (at 5 meters depth), with its school of snappers and its fearless turtles which you will be able to readily approach. You will slowly slide down the step to 12 meters, where you will find scorpionfish, liopnfish, moray, anemonefish, mantis schrimp and many more. A drift dive which attracts green humphead parrotfish withindays either side of the full moon. The site's deepest part (Deep Halik) is made up of canyons and valleys going easily to 40 meters depth. You will let your dreams go in front of the beautiful topography, but be careful not to miss a ray, a whitetip or blacktip reef shark. That site suits all certification level, from beginner to experienced divers, and also photographers. Aussi appelé "Coral Fan Garden" (le jardin des gorgones), Halik est réputé pour ses coraux colorés. Vous commencerez probablement la plongée sur le plateau (5 mètres de profondeur) avec son banc de vivaneaux et ses tortues peu farouches, que vous approcherez aisément. Puis vous glisserez doucement sur la marche qui descend jusqu'à 12 mètres et trouverez des poissons scorpions, rascasses volantes, murènes, poissons clowns, crevettes mantis et bien d'autre encore. Une plongée dérivante amenant les poissons perroquets à bosse, les jours précédant et suivant la pleine lune. La partie la plus profonde du site (Deep Halik) est composée de canyons et vallées allant facilement jusqu'à 40 mètres de profondeur. La topographie est absolument magnifique et vous laissera rêveur, mais attention à ne pas laisser passer une raie, un requin pointe noire ou pointe blanche. Ce site convient donc à tous les niveaux de certification, des débutants aux expérimentés en passant par les photographes.

Do you know about the Colourful Shrimp?

The Stenopus hispidus is a large and colourful shrimp famous for being monogamous. It is one of the largest known cleaner shrimp, reaching over 7 cm of length. It has a white hairy body with three red bands, bluish legs and red and white claws; one of its most distinctive feature are the antennas, which are long twice its body and are the only part of the animal that can be seen when it hides in the reef. La Sténope hispide est une grande crevette colorée connue pour être monogame. C'est la plus grande crevette nettoyeuse, pouvant mesurer plus que 7 cm de longueur. Elle a un corps blanc et poilu à rayures rouges, les pattes bleuâtres et les pinces rouge et blanc. Les antennes sont une des caractéristiques les plus distinctives, longues, deux fois son corps, elles sont la seule partie de l'animal qu'on aperçoit lorsqu'il se cache dans le récif.

HABITAT

Although they prefer shallow tropical waters across the IndoPacific, they can also be found in the Western Atlantic. They tend to live in the same area for up to one year, usually at about 2 to max 40 metres of depth, where fish are abundant. They dwell in crevices, under mats of grass and inside objects drift by the current such as buckets or even car tyres. Elles préfèrent les eaux tropicales de l'océan Indo-Pacifique, mais on peut les trouver aussi dans l'Atlantique occidental. Elles ont tendance à rester dans la même zone du récif pendant un an, à environ 2 jusqu'à maximum 40 mètres de profondeur, ou les poissons sont abondants. DIET - ALIMENTATION

Stenopus hispidus are cleaner shrimps, meaning that they feed on parasites and food scraps found on other reef animals. When they are hungry, they perform a dancing behaviour, they sway their antennas and thus signal to fish passing by the spot on the reef they have made their “cleaning station”. This symbiotic relation with other reef species is very developed and shrimps can enter the mouth of their host without risking their life! Les Stenopus hispidus sont des crevettes nettoyeuses et se nourrissent de parasites et de restes de nourriture qu'elles trouvent sur les autres animaux marins. Lorsqu'elles ont faim, elles dansent en oscillant les antennes et ainsi signalent aux poissons de passage leur «station de nettoyage » dans le récif. La relation symbiotique avec les autres espèces récifales est très développée et les crevettes peuvent entrer dans la bouche de leurs hôtes sans risquer leur vie !

REPRODUCTION

Stenopus hispidus are found in couples which stay together for life. Mating occurs when the female has just moulted; the animals start rubbing their antennas and claws, then the female raises her abdomen and the male places his abdomen against her. Shortly after, the female starts releasing greenish eggs, which she keeps on her swimmerets. The eggs hatch two weeks later, but the larvae will stay protected by their mother for a few more weeks. L'accouplement a lieu lorsque la femelle vient de muer; les animaux frottent les antennes et les pinces, ensuite la femelle dresse son abdomen et le mâle approche son abdomen à celui de la femelle. Les œufs éclosent après deux semaines, mais les larves restent protégées par la mère pour encore quelque semaine.

Let yourself drift with the current, whilst being careful because sometimes it can be very strong! You can rent the equipment very easily on all three islands. Another alternative is a snorkeling trip - a day out on a boat. You leave in the morning around 9am for a full circuit of the Gilis, visiting the best snorkeling spots of the three islands. You stop for lunch and finish about 4pm. You can book this trip on site or at your hotel. Kayak, let's start the adventure! KAYAK, en avant l’aventure !

Today is a wonderful day in the Gilis: the sea is calm, there is not a single wave on the horizon, and the sky is blue without any cloud. It's a perfect day for kayaking! I decide to rent a little floating craft and go on an adventure. Equipped with my mask and my snorkel, I want to join Gili Meno from Gili Air. Before that, I ask some local people if it isn’t too dangerous, as I am worried about the current. They laugh at me, wondering if I have lost my mind: I should rather stay on the island and enjoy the beach... But I'm a little bit reckless, so I decide to give it a try! First, I will go to the east coast. My plan is to circle around the island, and then head north. From there, I will begin my journey towards Meno, hop off, have lunch, enjoy the beach, and go back to Gili Air by mid-afternoon. I am ready Gililife 54

to go! An hour later I arrive on Seri Resort beach. The crossing was a great experience. I initially passed the reef where I saw a turtle, some colorful fish and the open sea. There was a little current but it wasn’t such a big problem! You can rent kayaks on Gili Air and Gili Trawangan. Find more information in the Gililife activities section! Aujourd’hui il fait un temps magnifique aux Gilis, la mer est calme, aucune vagues à l’horizon, le ciel est bleu, sans nuages. C’est une journée idéale pour faire du kayak ! Je décide donc de louer ce petit engin flottant et de partir à l’aventure. Armé de mon masque et de mon tuba, je décide de rejoindre Gili Meno au départ de Gili Air. Je demande aux locaux si ce n’est pas trop dangereux et s’il y a du courant. Ils me disent, en

rigolant que c’est une folie et que je devrais simplement rester sur l’île et profiter de la plage… Je suis un peu téméraire et je tente le coup ! Je pars de la côte Est. Mon plan : contourner l’île en me dirigeant vers le nord, de là, entamer ma traversée direction Meno, faire un stop, déjeuner, profiter de la plage et revenir en milieu d’après-midi. C’est parti ! Une heure après j’accoste sur la plage du Seri Resort. La traversée a été une belle expérience. J’ai tout d’abord passé le récif où j’ai aperçu une tortue et quelques poissons colorés, puis le grand bleu. Il y avait un peu de courant mais rien d’insurmontable ! Trying durian a couple of times does not mean you get a taste for it. Its deep smell and strong taste can act as strong repellants; however, this controversial fruit is one of the most loved fruits in Indonesia, which is also one of the main producers and consumers. There are many varieties and many ways to eat it. You can dig in it with your hands or dilute its taste into sugar and flour and make amazing pancakes. In any case, it's worth a try, even if you will not be licking your fingers afterwards. You are probably missing something if a large part of the Asian population waits for the durian season with anticipation and queues for hours in front of the most renown durian stalls. Who knows? Perhaps the Tukang Durian [durian seller] is your next guru. You will not discover this until you give it a go! Goûter le durian une ou deux fois ne suffit pas pour y prendre goût. Durian [from the Indonesian/Malay word Duri, meaning “thorn”] is a fruit unique to Southeast Asia and native to Sumatra and Borneo and locally known as The King of Fruits. It grows on very tall trees and can weight as much as 5 kg. Durians ripen in around 4 months; when they fall, they have to be consumed within maximum four days, after which it is considered overripe. For this reason, durians price rarely drops. Trees grow in tropical climates across Southeast Asia and each region has its own varieties. Durians found outside Souteast Asia usually come from Thailand and are of the Mon Thong variety, which is the only exportable one because it can be stored for weeks. However, durian experts say this type lacks taste and texture. Indonesia is the largest durian consumer in the world and North Sumatra is apparently the best place to find this fruit, because there are many varieties and durians can be found all year round. There is no accounting for taste and there is no right way to pick the best durian, simply because there are as many preferences as there are varieties. The best way to choose a durian is to have the Tukang Durian choose it for you. In Indonesia, durians are usually sold on street stalls and the tukang durian is the salesperson and the expert who will advice you best according to your tastes. Is it the first time you try durian? Then it is probably better to go for the young fruit, which has a mild flavour and a crispy texture. You like strong taste and you are not afraid of smelly flesh? Then get the ripest ones, the ones with a creamy flesh and nutty flavour. In any case, do not be fooled by the smell, which often does not reflect the actual taste of the fruit. Most of all, taste before you buy and trust the tukang durian, who may be even able to tell you what plantation the durian you are buying is from and other interesting stories about the King of Fruits. Durians are very nutricious and are used to flavour many traditional Indonesian and Malay dishes, from desserts to side dishes with chilli and onions and even main courses, such as Ikan brengkes, a traditional Sumatran dish where fish is cooked in durian sauce. Other parts of the fruit are consumed; nectar of the tree is used to make honey and seeds are roasted or fried with sugar. Here, we propose a simple recipe to make durian pancakes, a delight to be served cold on hot tropical days! On l'utilise pour des desserts, comme plats d'accompagnement avec du piment et des oignons et même pour des plats principaux, comme par exemple le Ikan brengkes, un plat traditionnel de Sumatra où le poisson est cuit dans une sauce au durian. Ingredients: - 250 gr of flour - 2 eggs - 550 ml of coconut milk - A pinch of salt - A pinch of pandan paste Ingrédients : - 250 grammes de farine - 2 oeufs - 550 ml de lait de noix de coco - Une pincée de sel - Une pincée de pâte de pandang

Mix flour and salt Add the eggs and stir until smooth. Slowly pour the milk, add the pandan paste and stir. On a hot non-sticky frying pan, pour a small amount of batter at a time. Cook for about 2 minutes. Take off the fire and place some whipped cream and fresh durian in the centre. Fold the pancake and put in the fridge. Enjoy! Mélangez le sel et la farine. Ajoutez les oeufs et remuez jusqu'à l'obtention d'un mélange homogène. Versez le lait graduellement, ajoutez la pâte de pandang et remuez. Sssh! It's Nyepi! In Bali Nyepi Day is the day of silence, when the world is clean and everything starts anew. Like every year on this special day, the streets of Bali are desert. No honking motorbikes, no insistent street vendors, no transport and no beach life! This year, Nyepi falls on March 9th, welcoming year 1938 for the Saka calendar. Do not plan any trips to or from Bali on Nyepi day, as Bali airport is closed and no transport option is available! Expect higher prices and crowded beaches if you go to Lombok or the Gilis in those days, as Nyepi is a public holiday and foreigners living in Bali often travel to the neighbouring islands. Nyepi falls on the day following the dark moon of the spring equinox and it is the first day of the new year according to the Saka calendar, which began in 78 A. D. It is a public holiday in Indonesia and one of the most important religious days of the year for the Balinese. This is a day for inner reflection, when mankind stops all activities to reflect upon life values such as love, forgiveness and patience and the day to honour the balance of nature. No lighting fires, no working and no entertainment are allowed in Bali on that day, which is observed in silence and fasting by the most pious. Beaches and streets are empty and no noise can be heard, in contrast with the hustle and bustle of any other day on the Island of the Gods. The only ones allowed in the streets are emergency vehicles and security staff, who patrol the villages to ensure rules are respected. Sssh! C'est Nyepi. Warung is one of the words in Bahasa Indonesian you are likely to hear more often. Meaning “small restaurant”, in Indonesia and in Malaysia a warung is an institution that indicates local food at a cheap price and in a familiar atmosphere. This word does not indicate the speed the meal will be served and it can be a fast food restaurant or a slow pace one according to what you decide to eat. If you go for nasi campur (mix rice), you will just have to pick what you want from the dishes on display and eat it right away. If you go for the warung best sellers such as mie goreng (fried noodles), nasi goreng (fried rice) or soto ayam (chicken soup), you will have the time to crack into a couple of krupuk (rice crackers) and burn your lips sipping a teh manis panas (sweetened hot tea) before you get served. In case you are daring and order some Western dish on the menu, you may end up spending the whole day in the warung and eventually become a member of the local family who run the place!

METHOD - PREPARATION Rinse the rice three times. Then, cook it in a saucepan with pandan leaves for about 30 minutes. Add sugar and mix. When the water has evaporated, add coconut milk and simmer until the milk evaporates, but not completely. The rice should be creamy. You can sweeten it a little more according to your taste. Slice your bananas and roast them in butter in a frying pan. Sprinkle brown sugar to make them caramelize. Serve the rice in a bowl and add the bananas. Rincer votre riz trois fois. Puis, le cuire dans une casserole avec les feuilles de pandan environ 30 min. Ajouter le sucre et mélanger. Lorsque l’eau s’est évaporée, incorporer le lait de coco et laisser mijoter jusqu’à ce que le lait s’évapore, mais pas complètement. Votre riz doit être crémeux. Vous pouvez sucrer un peu plus selon vos goûts. Dans une poêle, couper vos bananes en morceaux et les faire rôtir dans une noix de beurre. Saupoudrer de sucre roux pour les faire caraméliser. Servir le riz dans un bol et ajouter les bananes.

The man, the tiger and the durian L’homme, le tigre et le durian

id you know that tigers love durian? There is an Indonesian legend that explains this curious habit. A long time ago, when tigers roamed the islands, they were good friends with humans and loved to walk together in the forest. At the time, this relationship was not hazardous because the story says that both of them were vegetarians and fond of durian. The tiger would locate ripe fruit with its incredible sense of smell, and the human climbed the tree to pick them. Then, the two friends ate the golden flesh and had long animated conversations for hours. But one day, the man cut himself while opening the thick and pungent durian shell. The hungry tiger, smelling this irresistible mixture of blood and durian, could not help licking the hand of his friend, first by kindness, then by gluttony. Suddenly, he lost his mind and took a taste of human flesh. He could not help but want to devour his friend, who took to his heels. Since then, the tiger has this curious fondness for meat and durian. As for the human, no one knows why he has become omnivorous, but probably it has something to do with durian. Saviez-vous que les tigres adorent le durian ? Voici une légende indonésienne qui explique ce curieux penchant. Il y a bien longtemps, alors que les tigres peuplaient l’archipel, ils étaient bons amis avec les hommes et aimaient se balader ensemble en forêt. À l’époque, nul danger car l’histoire dit que tous deux étaient végétariens et raffolaient de durian. Le tigre repérait les fruits mûrs à leur odeur, et l’homme montait sur l’arbre pour les cueillir. Puis, les deux amis se régalaient de la chair dorée et avaient de longues conversations animées. Mais un jour, pressé par la faim, l’homme se coupa en ouvrant la carapace épaisse et piquante du durian. Le tigre affamé, et sentant ce mélange irrésistible du sang et du durian, ne put s’empêcher de lécher la main de son ami, par gentillesse puis par gourmandise. Soudain, le félin perdit la tête et prit goût à la chair humaine. Il ne put s’empêcher de vouloir croquer son ami tout entier, qui prit alors ses jambes à son cou. Depuis, le tigre a ce penchant pour la viande et le durian. Quant à l’homme nul ne sait pourquoi il est devenu omnivore, mais peut être que le durian y est pour quelque chose.

There are cidomos (horse and cart) available for hire on the three islands and bicycle rentals on GILI T, Gili Air and now Gili meno. Vous pouvez vous déplacer en Cidomo (charrette à cheval) sur les 3 îles ou louer un vélo sur Gili T, Gili Air et maintenant à Gili Meno

On Gili Air public boats leave to Lombok starting at 7:30am. Meno to Lombok, twice a day, at 8am and 3pm. And on Gili T starting at 7am until 5pm. Sur Gili Air les bateaux publics partent vers Lombok à partir de 7h30. Sur Gili Meno, deux fois par jour à 8h et 15h. Sur Gili T à partir de 7h du matin jusqu'à 17 h.

WATER Drinking water in the Gilis is imported from Narmada in Lombok. It is not advised to drink tap water. L'eau potable des îles Gilis est importée de Lombok à Narmada. Il est déconseillé de boire l'eau du robinet.

ELECTRICITY

Sometimes there are power cuts on the 3 islands but the resorts have generators.

INTERNET - WIFI Internet cafes are in abundance on Gili T- mainly on the developed east. On Gili Air there are 3 internet cafes and there are 2 on Meno (see map for locations). WIFI is available on all three islands at a variety of restaurants and resorts. Il y a de nombreux "internet café" sur Gili T, principalement à l'est. Sur Gili Air il y a 3 cybercafés et 2 sur Meno (voir la carte). le WIFI est disponible sur les trois îles dans la plupart des restaurants et hôtels.

HEALTH - SANTE There are clinics on all three Gili Islands (see maps) offering basic treatments and medicines. For serious ailments there are hospitals (rumah sakit) and dentists in Lombok (see directory). Il y a des cliniques sur les trois îles Gili (voir les cartes) pour les soins de base et les médicaments. Pour les maladies plus graves, il y a des hôpitaux (rumah sakit) et des dentistes à Lombok (voir l'annuaire).

IDR - RUPIAH You can change your foreign currency and pay by debit/

credit card in most dive centers and resort hotels, however, cash remains the only form of payment for most accommodation/food in The Gili's. Vous pouvez changer vos devises et payer par carte dans la plupart des centres de plongée et hôtels, cependant, l'espèce reste la forme de paiement la plus courante.

BEWARE DON'T SWIM BETWEEN THE ISLANDS Bear in mind that the Gili Islands are exposed to open oceans and can have incredibly strong currents running between and around them, and trade winds which create choppy seas. For this reason- always check daily conditions before commencing oceanic sports and know that it is NOT recommended to swim between the islands no matter your skill level.
