As you fill your agenda with ideas on how to make next year a better one, forget about the usual New Year resolutions. Include some thoughts for the Gilis, this beautiful place where you have the privilege to live in or to spend a fantastic holiday. The best resolution you can make is to promote a conscious living on these islands and do your best to save one of Gilis' most precious resource: electricity! The three Gili Islands, composed of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air are located off the northwest coast of Lombok. In Sasak language, "gili" means "small island. " There are more than 30 Gilis around Lombok but Trawangan, Meno and Air are by far the most frequently visited. Because of their proximity to the equator, they have a tropical climate throughout the year with an average air temperature of 28C and water temperatures ranging from 26 to 29C. The rainy season runs from November to April and the dry season from May to October. The Gilis bathe in the Bali Sea, at the convergence of the Indian and Pacific Oceans and enjoy a drier Gililife 18

micro-climate than the rest of Indonesia due in part to the fact that they are situated between two great volcanoes- Mount Rinjani on Lombok and Mount Agung on Bali. Like the majority of the Lombok community, the inhabitants of the Gili Islands are primarily Muslim and each island has a mosque(s) emitting sounds of live prayer five times daily. Bahasa Indonesia is the national language spoken that unites all of the country’s islands but Gili locals speak Sasak Gili Air which is slightly different to Sasak Lombok.About 200 years ago, fishermen from Sulawesi of Makassar, Bugis and Mandar ethnicities arrived on

the Gili Islands. They began to settle temporarily because of the abundance of fish in the sea and the presence of fresh water on Gili Air and at that time, sectioning off a bit of land with string was enough to claim it. These otherwise nomadic people began to settle in the Gilis and cultivate the land, planting peanuts, tapioca and corn whilst continuing their tradition of fishing. They sold and exchanged their produce in the markets of Lombok and also traded portions of their land for livestock, rice and other much needed items not native to the islands. Coconut palms are indigenous to the Gilis while mango, banana and papaya trees have been

introduced over the years. The first Western traveler to set foot on the Gili Islands came in 1984 to Gili Air. By the mid 1990’s Bali had gained international recognition as a travel destination and the Gilis began to be known as an off-the-beaten-track paradise escape. Today, the Gili Islands are flourishing and are attracting all types of visitors from every corner of the globe. Over time, the people of the Gili Islands have adapted to a multitude of changes and cultural immersions but have managed to maintain their cultural identity. Historically the people here have seen their days of hardship when during WWII, Lombok and the Gili Islands were occupied by Japanese forces. The islands were used to contain prisoners of war and the locals endured forced labour. A hill situated on the south of Trawangan was used as a lookout post and today remnants of the bunker still remain. Trawangan derived it's name from the Indonesian word "terowongan" meaning "tunnels" of which a network were dug by the occupying forces. The holes have since been filled in. Le premier étranger venu de l'occident est arrivé en 1984 à Gili Air et les premiers touristes, dans les années 90 lorsque Bali a acquis sa réputation mondiale ! Aujourd'hui, les îles Gilis sont de plus en plus populaires et séduisent un bon nombre de voyageurs venus de différentes horizons. Au fil du temps, les habitants des îles Gili se sont adaptés à une multitude de changements et d'immersions culturelles, mais ont réussi à conserver leur identité. Historiquement, ils ont vécu des moments difficiles. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l'île de Lombok et les Gilis étaient occupées par les forces japonaises. Les îles ont été utilisées pour maintenir les prisonniers de guerre et les habitants ont subi le travail forcé. Une colline située au sud de Trawangan a été utilisée comme poste d'observation et aujourd'hui les vestiges d'un bunker demeurent. When you hear about Gili T you probably also hear the words "party island" yeah? Thought we should just address that straight away! Gili T gained this title because it is the largest of the three northern Gili Islands with the most development, hence it offers the greatest abundance of everything- including nightlife. There are fantastic parties every night of the week that attract large crowds of people from all different walks of life and every corner of the globe. Nightly features start with a sizzling local food market and advance into live music, beach parties and DJ's. There's also the option of watching movies screened at an open air beach "theatre." The rumored growth of Trawangan from a backpacker island into something of a glam island is supported by the unveiling Gililife 20

The unforgettable island of fashion and fun

of new upscale boutiques, restaurants, resorts, spas, and now a heli-pad, however, it remains a hub of charm for a wide spectrum of travelers. It's an iconic island of variety with numerous options for every budget/lifestyle for eating, sleeping (backpacker dorms to luxury villas), entertainment and activities. Gili T has extraordinarily beautiful beaches and shimmering ocean waters of crystal-clear visibility for diving and snorkeling. This island boasts some of the finest coral gardens and the widest range of dive centers with the best socializing opportunities. Although it is predominately known as a party island, Gili T has much more to it and venturing away from the densely developed east coast, you can find a plethora of vacant beaches. Renting a bicycle is a great way to see the island, bearing in mind there are some sandy patches! Seeing how life works here can be very eye-opening: it's not an escape from reality- just a slightly different one but understandably surreal nonetheless! There are several conservation organizations based here including Gili Eco Trust (GET) and The Gili Shark Foundation- ask around (try dive centers) about how you can get involved! As you may know- there is no motorized transport in the Gilis and what a soothing break that can be! Surfing is popular off the south and it's not unwise to speak to locals about the break. For a supreme viewpoint walk up the hill on the south that was previously used as a lookout during WW II.

➜ Gili T is the spicy island of pizzazz with something for absolutely everyone!

Set between Gili Air and Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno arguably offers the finest beaches of all the Gili Islands. The sands are white and soft beneath your feet and you can relax on vacant stretches of beach lined with coconut trees. Meno is the real escape to paradise where you can fill your days with activities like diving, snorkeling, surfing or just simply taking in the tranquil views. This island is a treasure of local lifestyle where time seems to bend and life seems to slow down. It is the least developed island where you can completely relax amongst abundant nature- Meno is a holiday within a holiday. Here you can walk or take a cidomo (horse&cart) to attractions such as the salt lake where it's possible to spot rare blue kingfishers and the elusive island monitor lizard, or venture to the eerie remnants of an abandoned resort- where a popular wreck-dive site exists just offshore. There are no bicycle rentals in Meno but it's possible to walk the island in an hour. Gili Meno offers great selections of local and western restaurants and most places serve a variety of the two. This island is primarily popular amongst couples and those seeking a more enlightening, recharging time. Yoga and meditation are up there with diving and honeymooning for making Gili Meno an ideal travel destination. In the past, Meno was said to have a mosquito problem but this is not the case- in the wet season there are normal levels of what you would expect in a tropical place, perhaps even less, and in the dry season- tidak apa apa- no problem!!

Do you know about the Kingfisher?

The kingfisher is a tiny brightly coloured bird with a strong beak that you can recognize by its distinct look and characteristic call, which sounds like a laugh going “kek-kek-kek-kek”. There are over 100 recorded species of kingfisher, weighing up to 150 gr and with an average size of 25 cm. They can live up to 10 years and tend to be solitary birds. Le martin-chasseur est un petit oiseau coloré qui a un bec fort et que l'on peut reconnaître par sa livrée brillante et son chant distinct qui ressemble à un rire qui fait « kek-kek-kek-kek ». Il y a plus de 100 espèces enregistrées de martin-chasseurs, qui peuvent atteindre un poids de 150 g et une taille d'environ 25 cm. Ils peuvent vivre jusqu'à 10 ans et tendent à être des animaux solitaires.

These birds can be found all over the world; they are common residents of coastal areas and live close to water streams, lakes and within mangroves. Because of their eating habits, they can usually be spotted near shallow ponds and beaches and, for this reason, they are considered indicators of the health of the water stream. Ces oiseaux se trouvent dans le monde entier et ils sont des résidents habituels des zones côtières. Ils vivent en proximité de cours d'eau, de lacs et dans les mangroves. En raison de leurs habitudes alimentaires, on peut les voir facilement à côté des étangs et des plages. Voilà pourquoi on les considère comme des indicateurs de l'état de santé des cours d'eau.

As its common name indicates, these birds are master fishers and professional hunters. They typically prey on fish, crustaceans, lizards, small snakes, tadpoles and earthworms and are known for banging shells against stones to extract molluscs. Everyday they have to eat 60% of their body weight. Comme son nom l'indique, ces oiseaux sont des pêcheurs experts et des chasseurs professionnels. Il se nourrissent principalement de poissons, crustacés, lézards, petits serpents, têtards et vers de terre. Ils sont connus pour casser les coquillages contre les cailloux pour en extraire le mollusque. Chaque jour, ils doivent manger 60% de leur poids.

REPRODUCTION Males and females build the nest together by digging a tunnel in the branches of rotting trees or in palm trees and making the nest at the end. The female lays two to four eggs and, after a short incubation period, the male takes over until the eggs hatch. The newborn stay in the tunnel until they are large enough to go to the entrance of the burrow to be fed. Les mâles et les femelles construisent le nid ensemble, au fond d'un tunnel qu'ils creusent dans les branches d'un arbre mort ou dans un cocotier. La femelle pond entre deux et quatre œufs et après une courte période d'incubation, le mâle prend le relais jusqu'à l'éclosion des œufs. Les petitsnés restent dans le tunnel jusqu'à ce qu'ils soient assez grands pour se faire nourrir à l'entrée du tunnel.

UNDERWATER FLAG A NEW RECORD SET IN GILI AIR

Un drapeau sous l’eau, un nouveau record établi à Gili Air ! During the morning of the 25th November, a big event took place just outside of Bambu Cottages, on the beautiful Island of Gili Air. Many scouts and army members from across Lombok, Java and Jakarta spent a week on the Island taking part in several activities and celebrations, the biggest of these was setting a Muri World Record for putting the biggest Indonesian flag underwater. At 22.5 meters across and 17 meters down, the flag was placed underwater at 20 meters deep. Many divers from the Gili Air dive community took part in this event in support of the reservation and re-growth of coral, protecting the Ocean and of course setting this record. Attended by many, this was a great way to end the week spent with these special visitors. Au cours de la matinée du 25 Novembre, un grand événement a eu lieu devant Bambu Cottages, sur la magnifique île de Gili Air. De nombreux scouts et membres de l'armée en provenance de différents endroits de Lombok, Java et Jakarta ont passé une semaine sur l'île afin de prendre part à plusieurs activités et célébrations. L’événement le plus marquant a été de battre le record mondial « Muri » qui consiste à planter un grand drapeau indonésien sous l’eau. Mesurant 22,5 mètres de longueur et 17 mètres de largeur, cet immense drapeau a été planté dans la mer à 20 mètres de profondeur. De nombreux plongeurs de Gili Air ont pris part à cet événement pour établir un nouveau record mondial, et aussi exprimer leur soutien aux efforts de protection du corail et de l'océan. Cet événement sous-marin a compté de nombreux participants et a permis de terminer en beauté cette semaine passée avec ces visiteurs venus de toute l’Indonésie.

The Global FinPrint Project comes to the Gili Islands in 2016 Le Projet mondial FinPrint vient aux îles Gili en 2016

The first global, multi-institutional effort to collect new and combine existing baited remote underwater video (BRUV) data sets to create the largest and most comprehensive assessment of the world’s reef-associated sharks and rays populations. The project aims to provide insight into abundance patterns and the ecological role of sharks that is essential to conservation efforts. “it is really exciting to be collecting the first data on shark and ray abundance in the Gili’s and it will form one piece of the global puzzle. We want to identify areas with healthy shark populations so we can try to protect them from fishing pressure and also to examine how the rest of the ecosystem is functioning in the presence of sharks so we can determine the impacts if we remove them which is the case in so many waters around the globe.” said marine biologist Dr. Mark Bond from Florida International University, who is leading the finprint efforts around the Gili Islands. Global Firprint is hosted by Gili Eco Trust and Gili Air Divers. Nous voulons identifier des lieux avec des populations de requins en bonne santé, dans le but de les protéger de la surpêche. Aussi nous souhaitons étudier l’impact de la présence de requins sur un écosystème afin de pouvoir déterminer ce qui se passerait si ces créatures venaient à disparaître, comme c’est le cas dans de nombreux endroits dans le monde », explique le Dr. Mark Bond, biologiste marin à l'Université internationale de Floride. Situated in the south-east of Gili Air, Home Reef is a dive that should be started from the harbour for its biggest exploration. At first you will find a rich coral area and a funnelweed field. By following the island from South to North you will reach that soft sandy slope and a rich diversity of hards corals forming an extent of small pinacles, creating the main scenery in Home Reef. Macro lovers will enjoy it for its variety of nudibranchs, banded pipefish, ornate ghost pipefish, crocodile fish. This dive site also ideal for night dives as you may discover even more mysterious creatures such as spanish dancers, decorator crabs, baby blue cuttlefish or cowfish. Suited to all levels with a maximum depth of 22 meters between the slope and the sand mount (located approximately 10 meters from the shore). A dive that will satisfy everyone with its accessibility and interest. Situé au sud-est de Gili Air, Home Reef est une plongée qui peut se commencer du port pour une plus large exploration. Vous tomberez d'abord sur une région riche en coraux puis sur un champ de padines. En longeant l'île sud-nord, vous atteindrez ce doux tombant de sable et sa diversité de coraux durs, formant une étendue de petits pinacles, élément principal du décor de Home Reef. Convient à tous les niveaux, avec une profondeur maximum de 22 mètres entre le tombant et le mont de sable formé à une dizaine de mètres du rivage. Do you know about the Sea Anemone?

Sea anemones are marine invertebrates related to corals and jellyfish. Their body is characterised by an array of stingy tentacles around a central mouth and which are used to catch prey. With their amazingly coloured tentacles swaying with the ocean current, sea anemones are a beautiful presence in the world's coral reefs. They tend to be sedentary and they stick their cylindrical body to the reef thanks to an adhesive disc. Their size varies according to the species and ranges between 1-2 cm to almost 2 mt! Les anémones de mer sont des invertébrés marins apparentés aux coraux et aux méduses. Leur corps est caractérisé par la couronne de tentacules venimeux autour d'une bouche centrale, qu'elles utilisent pour attraper leur proie. Avec leurs beaux tentacules de couleurs qui ondulent avec le courant, les anémones de mer sont une présence magnifique dans les récifs coralliens du monde entier. Généralement sédentaires, elles collent leur corps cylindrique au récif grâce à un disque adhésif. Les dimensions changent en fonction de l'espèce et varient entre 1-2 cm et presque 2 mètres !

Microscopic green algae - called zooxanthelles - located in their tentacules provide sugar and oxygen to the sea anemone in exchange for protection and sunlight, which is essential for the algae photosynthetic activity. Some sea anemones give protection to clown fish, who live safe within the anemone's venomous tentacles and allows the sea anemone to scrap its food leftovers. Some hermit crabs keep a sea anemone attached to their shell and use it to scare off its predators. Les anémones de mer entretiennent une relation symbiotique avec différents animaux marins. You can see turtles, all kinds of fish, blue-spotted stingrays... Let yourself drift with the current, whilst being careful because sometimes it can be very strong! You can rent the equipment very easily on all three islands. Another alternative is a snorkeling trip - a day out on a boat. You leave in the morning around 9am for a full circuit of the Gilis, visiting the best snorkeling spots of the three islands. You stop for lunch and finish about 4pm. I often hear people say that the whole world meets in the Gilis. Last Saturday I had the confirmation that these beautiful islands attract visitors from all over the world and are an amazing melting-pot of cultures. Every Saturday just before sunset, a group of happy Indonesian capoerists meet at the Mexican Kitchen, hosted by Janset, the owner of the place and a passionate capoeirist herself. Last week I was lucky to be there for the special Roda (Capoeira circle) and Samba de Roda with Profesora Gabriela, a Gililife 54

Brazilian samba teacher on a visit to Gili Air. We grouped up on the beach and the skilled young capoeirists showed us some moves of this charming and typical Brazilian martial art, which I repeated clumsily, falling on the sand a few times. The sun was already setting when Professora Gabriela took the lead and started a samba class, while the capoeirists played birimbao and drums to accompany our dance. We sang and danced and laughed until the sky was purple pink and we were covered in sweat, ready to jump in the ocean. J'entends souvent les gens dire que le monde entier se rencontre aux Gilis. Samedi dernier, j'ai eu la confirmation que ces îles merveilleuses attirent des visiteurs de partout et sont un mélange de cultures. Tous les samedis juste avant le coucher du soleil, un groupe de capoeiristes indonésiens se

rencontrent au Mexican Kitchen, accueillis par Janset, la propriétaire du restaurant et capoeiriste passionnée. La semaine dernière j'ai eu la chance de participer à la Roda (circle de la Capoeira) et à la Samba de Roda avec Profesora Gabriela, une enseignante brésilienne de samba en visite sur l'île. On s'est regroupé sur la plage et les jeunes capoeiristes très compétents nous ont montré des mouvements de cet art martial charmant et typique du Brésil, que j'ai répété maladroitement, en tombant dans le sable plusieurs fois. Le soleil descendait lorsque Profesora Gabriela a prit le relais pour le cours de samba, alors que les capoeiristes jouaient du birimbao et du tambour pour accompagner notre danse. Nous avons chanté, dansé et rigolé jusqu'à ce que le ciel soit rose-violet. Nous étions couvert de sueur, prêts à se lancer dans l'océan.

With a population of over 250 million, a fast-growing economy and a unique geography, in Indonesia the challenge to meet the growing demand in electricity is tough. In recent years, electricity consumption has been growing by 7% annually, leading to national rolling blackouts as a means to manage peak electricity demand. Indonesia's electrification rate is low compared to its neighbouring countries and over 50 million people do not have access to electricity. For these reasons, Indonesia is focusing on the diversification of supplies and investing in renewable energies, which untapped potential is enormous. The Gililife 56

goal is to achieve energy security, nationwide electrification and resource optimization. However, lack of financial resources and technical know-how as well as the spatially dispersed population further toughen the issue. How does it work in the Gilis? Comment ça fonctionne aux Gilis? The Gili islands are visited by thousands of tourists each year and face an increasing energy demand, which is often not sustained by the current supply. However, until around 15/20 years ago, there was no electricity on the islands and people relied on candles and kerosene lamps to satisfy their energy needs. Electricity arrived in 1994 in Gili T, 1998 in Gili Air and in 2002 in Gili Meno. Each island would have 3-4 generators to supply the islands with electricity from 6 to 10pm for the first few years and then for 24hrs a day. This system ran until 2012, when the Gilis were connected to the mainland central grid following an electrification program by the PLN. Today, power is transmitted by means of an undersea cable network, which spans over 4 km at a maximum depth of 30 mt. Electricity is paid through a pre-paid meterage system; basically, people recharge their electricity by buying credit at the local shop in the same way they recharge their cellphone credit. While the generators consumed hundreds of litres of fuel per day and made a constant repetitive noise, the current system is criticised for damaging the reef.

It is very important that you do your best to limit your energy consumption while you are in the Gilis: Enjoy the sea breeze! Turn off the A/C! Do you really need a hot shower when it is 30ºC? You are on holiday! Turn that computer off! Chaque année, des milliers de touristes visitent les Gilis. La demande en énergie ne cesse d'augmenter et est souvent excessive par rapport à l'approvisionnement actuel. Cela fais à peine 15/20 ans que les Gilis sont desservies par l'électricité et que les habitants ne dépendent pas de bougies et lampes à pétrole pour satisfaire leur besoin en énergie. L'électricité est arrivée à Gili Trawangan en 1994, à Gili Air en 1998 et à Gili Meno en 2002. Chaque île avait 3-4 générateurs qui approvisionnaient les îles entre 18h et 22h pendant les premières années et ensuite 24h par jour. Indonesia is a treasure-chest of renewable energy sources. Abundant volcanic activity makes it one of the world's biggest reserves of geothermal energy and constant sunshine would allow to exploit solar energy extensively. These sources, as well as hydropower and tidal and wind energy, offer immense opportunities to reduce the country's dependence on oil. The energy crisis in 2008 prompted the Indonesian government to find solutions in order to respond to the increasing population and demand, consequent power shortages and rising fuel prices. The current legal framework sets the target of 25% use of energy from renewable sources by 2025 and several infrastructures for the exploitation of renewable energy are being developed. However, due to the lack of funds, technology and know-how, most Indonesia renewable energy potential remains untapped. Lombok has been known for its Hindu-Buddhist culture since the 14th century, when the island was part of the Majapahit empire, the last Indianized kingdom in Indonesia. Today, in Lombok Hinduism is the second most practiced religion after Islam; only in Mataram regency, the 14% of the population is Hindu. If you visite Mataram on Nyepi day (Balinese day of silence, 9th of March) you will surely be stuck in traffic due to the many Hindu apacara agama (religious ceremonies)! Les îles Mentawai, le paradis des surfeurs In the early 1990s, a group of Western surfers on a live aboard boat off the coast of Sumatra stumbled upon some of the most amazing waves they had ever seen. They were in the Mentawai, a chain of seventy islands home to one of the few tribes left in Indonesia and bound to become an ultimate off the beaten-track surfing destination. How to get there?

A fast boat service running twice a week reaches Siberut and Sipora, two of the Mentawai's main islands, in about 3-5 hours from Padang, which is the closest airport. At a higher price, it is possible to charter a boat or to have transport organised by one of the surf resorts. With no ATMs, no hospitals and a high incidence of malaria, a trip to the Mentawai is not for the faint-hearted, but rather for passionate experienced surfers or adventurous travellers who are not afraid to be challenged by nature. The unspoilt and hardly accessible environment is in fact a distinct feature of the Mentawai, where most surfing spots can only be reached by boat and tribe people live days of trek away from the nearest town. A few resorts located on the main islands are equipped with modern Western comforts and provide an easy though expensive way to experience the waves and the jungle (100-250 US$/day). It is possible to organise a cheaper and more independent trip by staying in homestays and hiring guides locally, but this option requires extensive research and preparation, and it is advised to take health concerns in particular consideration. Warung is one of the words in Bahasa Indonesian you are likely to hear more often. Meaning “small restaurant”, in Indonesia and in Malaysia a warung is an institution that indicates local food at a cheap price and in a familiar atmosphere. This word does not indicate the speed the meal will be served and it can be a fast food restaurant or a slow pace one according to what you decide to eat. If you go for nasi campur (mix rice), you will just have to pick what you want from the dishes on display and eat it right away. If you go for the warung best sellers such as mie goreng (fried noodles), nasi goreng (fried rice) or soto ayam (chicken soup), you will have the time to crack into a couple of krupuk (rice crackers) and burn your lips sipping a teh manis panas (sweetened hot tea) before you get served. In case you are daring and order some Western dish on the menu, you may end up spending the whole day in the warung and eventually become a member of the local family who run the place!

In Indonesia, sambals are used as marinade for preparations, as an accompaniment for meat or grilled fish, or simply as a sort of mustard! En Indonésie, les sambals sont utilisés comme marinade ou pour aromatiser des préparations en sauce ou encore comme accompagnement à une viande ou un poisson grillé ou simplement comme une moutarde !

METHOD - PREPARATION Peel the garlic and onions. In a pan, gently heat the oil and fry the onions. Put the shrimp paste and salt in a mortar or a blender and mix well. Add this paste, plus some garlic and nuoc mam sauce, to the fried onions. Simmer for one minute then add the sliced chilies. Add water and soft tamarind pulp: to prepare the tamarind dough simply mix the dough in a little hot water. You can keep the sambal for three weeks in the fridge. Eplucher l’ail et l’oignon. Dans une poêle faire chauffer doucement l’huile et faire revenir les oignons. Dans un mortier ou mixeur mettre la pâte de crevette et le sel puis mélanger. Ajouter cette pâte, l’ail et la sauce nuocmam aux oignons. Laisser mijoter une minute puis ajouter les piments émincés. Ajouter l’eau et la pâte de tamarin ramollie. Pour préparer la pâte de tamarin ramollie il suffit de délayer la pâte dans un peu d’eau chaude. Vous pouvez conserver votre sambal 3 semaines au frais.

o you know what causes blackouts here ? Each power line is continuously run by millions of little fairies who bring light and life to the island. They are very disciplined and serious, each well focused on their task. Yet one of them is a dreamer. She falls in love easily and she's smitten with a resident of the island, a very handsome young man who lives here. Every time she meets him, hears his name or thinks about him, she becomes so moved that she begins to sparkle and produce thousands of twinkles, creating a short circuit. As the island is very small, she often sees him, which explains the frequent blackouts. She tries not to think about him, but every time she hears his voice, she begins to sparkle and fizz in spite of herself, which makes the breakers blow out ... So next time you are suddenly immersed in the dark on the Gili Islands, think about this impossible love story, this little fairy that runs through the power lines alone, sighing with sadness, as she will never be with this charming young man. Savez-vous à quoi sont dues les coupures de courant ici ? Chaque ligne électrique est parcourue en permanence par des millions de petites fées, qui apportent lumière et vie à toute l’île. Elles sont très disciplinées et sérieuses, chacune bien concentrée sur sa tâche. Pourtant, l’une d’elles est une grande rêveuse. C’est un vrai cœur d’artichaut et elle est folle amoureuse d’un habitant, un très beau jeune homme qui vit ici. Chaque fois qu’elle le voit, entend son nom, ou pense à lui, elle est tellement émue qu’elle se met à pétiller et produit des milliers d’étincelles, créant ainsi un énorme court-circuit. Comme l’île est très petite, elle le croise souvent, ce qui explique les fréquentes coupures de courant. Elle essaye de ne plus penser à lui, mais dès qu’elle l’aperçoit ou entend sa voix, elle se met à étinceler et pétiller bien malgré elle, faisant ainsi exploser tous les disjoncteurs! Alors, la prochaine fois que vous serez plongé brusquement dans le noir, pensez à cet amour impossible, à cette petite fée qui parcourt les lignes électriques toute seule et qui soupire de ne jamais pouvoir être avec ce jeune homme charmant.

There are cidomos (horse and cart) available for hire on the three islands and bicycle rentals on GILI T, Gili Air and now Gili meno. Vous pouvez vous déplacer en Cidomo (charrette à cheval) sur les 3 îles ou louer un vélo sur Gili T, Gili Air et maintenant à Gili Meno

On Gili Air public boats leave to Lombok starting at 7:30am. Meno to Lombok, twice a day, at 8am and 3pm. And on Gili T starting at 7am until 5pm. Sur Gili Air les bateaux publics partent vers Lombok à partir de 7h30. Sur Gili Meno, deux fois par jour à 8h et 15h. Sur Gili T à partir de 7h du matin jusqu'à 17 h.

WATER Drinking water in the Gilis is imported from Narmada in Lombok. It is not advised to drink tap water. L'eau potable des îles Gilis est importée de Lombok à Narmada. Il est déconseillé de boire l'eau du robinet.

ELECTRICITY

Sometimes there are power cuts on the 3 islands but the resorts have generators.

INTERNET - WIFI Internet cafes are in abundance on Gili T- mainly on the developed east. On Gili Air there are 3 internet cafes and there are 2 on Meno (see map for locations). WIFI is available on all three islands at a variety of restaurants and resorts. Il y a de nombreux "internet café" sur Gili T, principalement à l'est. Sur Gili Air il y a 3 cybercafés et 2 sur Meno (voir la carte). le WIFI est disponible sur les trois îles dans la plupart des restaurants et hôtels.

HEALTH - SANTE There are clinics on all three Gili Islands (see maps) offering basic treatments and medicines. For serious ailments there are hospitals (rumah sakit) and dentists in Lombok (see directory). Il y a des cliniques sur les trois îles Gili (voir les cartes) pour les soins de base et les médicaments. Pour les maladies plus graves, il y a des hôpitaux (rumah sakit) et des dentistes à Lombok (voir l'annuaire).

IDR - RUPIAH You can change your foreign currency and pay by debit/

credit card in most dive centers and resort hotels, however, cash remains the only form of payment for most accommodation/food in The Gili's. Vous pouvez changer vos devises et payer par carte dans la plupart des centres de plongée et hôtels, cependant, l'espèce reste la forme de paiement la plus courante.

BEWARE DON'T SWIM BETWEEN THE ISLANDS Bear in mind that the Gili Islands are exposed to open oceans and can have incredibly strong currents running between and around them, and trade winds which create choppy seas. For this reason- always check daily conditions before commencing oceanic sports and know that it is NOT recommended to swim between the islands no matter your skill level.
