The three Gili Islands, composed of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air are located off the northwest coast of Lombok. In Sasak language, "gili" means "small island. " There are more than 30 Gilis around Lombok but Trawangan, Meno and Air are by far the most frequently visited. Because of their proximity to the equator, they have a tropical climate throughout the year with an average air temperature of 28C and water temperatures ranging from 26 to 29C. The rainy season runs from November to April and the dry season from May to October. The Gilis bathe in the Bali Sea, at the convergence of the Indian and Pacific Oceans and enjoy a drier Gililife 22

micro-climate than the rest of Indonesia due in part to the fact that they are situated between two great volcanoes- Mount Rinjani on Lombok and Mount Agung on Bali. Like the majority of the Lombok community, the inhabitants of the Gili Islands are primarily Muslim and each island has a mosque(s) emitting sounds of live prayer five times daily. Bahasa Indonesia is the national language spoken that unites all of the country’s islands but Gili locals speak Sasak Gili Air which is slightly different to Sasak Lombok.About 200 years ago, fishermen from Sulawesi of Makassar, Bugis and Mandar ethnicities arrived on

the Gili Islands. They began to settle temporarily because of the abundance of fish in the sea and the presence of fresh water on Gili Air and at that time, sectioning off a bit of land with string was enough to claim it. These otherwise nomadic people began to settle in the Gilis and cultivate the land, planting peanuts, tapioca and corn whilst continuing their tradition of fishing. They sold and exchanged their produce in the markets of Lombok and also traded portions of their land for livestock, rice and other much needed items not native to the islands. Coconut palms are indigenous to the Gilis while mango, banana and papaya trees have been

introduced over the years. The first Western traveler to set foot on the Gili Islands came in 1984 to Gili Air. By the mid 1990’s Bali had gained international recognition as a travel destination and the Gilis began to be known as an off-the-beaten-track paradise escape. Today, the Gili Islands are flourishing and are attracting all types of visitors from every corner of the globe. Over time, the people of the Gili Islands have adapted to a multitude of changes and cultural immersions but have managed to maintain their cultural identity. Historically the people here have seen their days of hardship when during WWII, Lombok and the Gili Islands were occupied by Japanese forces. The islands were used to contain prisoners of war and the locals endured forced labour. A hill situated on the south of Trawangan was used as a lookout post and today remnants of the bunker still remain. Trawangan derived it's name from the Indonesian word "terowongan" meaning "tunnels" of which a network were dug by the occupying forces. The holes have since been filled in. Les cocotiers ont toujours été présents sur les îles, les mangues, bananes et papayes sont venues plus tard. Le premier étranger venu de l'occident est arrivé en 1984 à Gili Air et les premiers touristes, dans les années 90 lorsque Bali a acquis sa réputation mondiale ! Aujourd'hui, les îles Gilis sont de plus en plus populaires et séduisent un bon nombre de voyageurs venus de différentes horizons. Au fil du temps, les habitants des îles Gili se sont adaptés à une multitude de changements et d'immersions culturelles, mais ont réussi à conserver leur identité. Historiquement, ils ont vécu des moments difficiles. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l'île de Lombok et les Gilis étaient occupées par les forces japonaises. Les îles ont été utilisées pour maintenir les prisonniers de guerre et les habitants ont subi le travail forcé. Une colline située au sud de Trawangan a été utilisée comme poste d'observation et aujourd'hui les vestiges d'un bunker demeurent. When you hear about Gili T you probably also hear the words "party island" yeah? Thought we should just address that straight away! Gili T gained this title because it is the largest of the three northern Gili Islands with the most development, hence it offers the greatest abundance of everything- including nightlife. There are fantastic parties every night of the week that attract large crowds of people from all different walks of life and every corner of the globe. Nightly features start with a sizzling local food market and advance into live music, beach parties and DJ's. There's also the option of watching movies screened at an open air beach "theatre." The rumored growth of Trawangan from a backpacker island into something of a glam island is supported by the unveiling Gililife 24

The unforgettable island of fashion and fun

of new upscale boutiques, restaurants, resorts, spas, and now a heli-pad, however, it remains a hub of charm for a wide spectrum of travelers. It's an iconic island of variety with numerous options for every budget/lifestyle for eating, sleeping (backpacker dorms to luxury villas), entertainment and activities. Gili T has extraordinarily beautiful beaches and shimmering ocean waters of crystal-clear visibility for diving and snorkeling. This island boasts some of the finest coral gardens and the widest range of dive centers with the best socializing opportunities. Although it is predominately known as a party island, Gili T has much more to it and venturing away from the densely developed east coast, you can find a plethora of vacant beaches. Renting a bicycle is a great way to see the island, bearing in mind there are some sandy patches! Seeing how life works here can be very eye-opening: it's not an escape from reality- just a slightly different one but understandably surreal nonetheless! There are several conservation organizations based here including Gili Eco Trust (GET) and The Gili Shark Foundation- ask around (try dive centers) about how you can get involved! As you may know- there is no motorized transport in the Gilis and what a soothing break that can be! Surfing is popular off the south and it's not unwise to speak to locals about the break. For a supreme viewpoint walk up the hill on the south that was previously used as a lookout during WW II.

➜ Gili T is the spicy island of pizzazz with something for absolutely everyone!

Bien qu'elle soit surtout connue comme une île "de fête", Gili T cache un nature dense et douce, aventurez-vous loin des côtes pour découvrir la magnifique cocoteraie ou les plages désertes de la côte ouest. N'ayant aucun transport motorisé aux îles Gilis, la location d'un vélo est un excellent moyen de découvrir l'île, et aussi une expérience aventureuse ! Set between Gili Air and Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno arguably offers the finest beaches of all the Gili Islands. The sands are white and soft beneath your feet and you can relax on vacant stretches of beach lined with coconut trees. Meno is the real escape to paradise where you can fill your days with activities like diving, snorkeling, surfing or just simply taking in the tranquil views. This island is a treasure of local lifestyle where time seems to bend and life seems to slow down. It is the least developed island where you can completely relax amongst abundant nature- Meno is a holiday within a holiday. Here you can walk or take a cidomo (horse&cart) to attractions such as the salt lake where it's possible to spot rare blue kingfishers and the elusive island monitor lizard, or venture to the eerie remnants of an abandoned resort- where a popular wreck-dive site exists just offshore. There are no bicycle rentals in Meno but it's possible to walk the island in an hour. Gili Meno offers great selections of local and western restaurants and most places serve a variety of the two. There is also open air barugastyle accommodation for the true outdoorsmen- er, and women! Other points of interest on Meno include a bird park and the turtle conservation pools (which run entirely on donations). This island is primarily popular amongst couples and those seeking a more enlightening, recharging time. Yoga and meditation are up there with diving and honeymooning for making Gili Meno an ideal travel destination. In the past, Meno was said to have a mosquito problem but this is not the case- in the wet season there are normal levels of what you would expect in a tropical place, perhaps even less, and in the dry season- tidak apa apa- no problem!!

The Tree of Life - L'arbre de la vie The coconut plant is known as the “Tree of Life”, because every bit of it can be used. However, coconuts are not trees but botanically considered woody perennial monocotyledons. Spread throughout the tropical regions of the world, coconut palms are plants with a long trunk and a large crown of leaves on top which best grow in sandy soil with regular rainfall and a lot of sunlight. A main distinction is made between dwarf and tall palms, the latter reaching up to 30 mt of height. Le cocotier est connu sous le nom de « Arbre de la vie » parce que toutes les parties de la plante peuvent être utilisées. Cependant, du point de vue botanique, les cocotiers ne sont pas considérés comme des arbres mais des plantes ligneuses, pérennes et monocotylédones. Les cocotiers sont communs dans les régions tropicales et se distinguent par leur long tronc et leur large couronne foliaire. Ils préfèrent un sol salé où les précipitations sont régulières et la lumière du soleil est abondante. On distingue les cocotiers nains des grands, les derniers pouvant atteindre une hauteur de 30 mètres.

La coque et les feuilles The fiber of the husk of the coconut is used to make ropes and mats and can also be converted in paint brushes or in stuffing for mattresses. Leaves are woven to make baskets and dried to be used as thatch for roofing. The fruit - Le fruit It takes almost 1 year for a coconut to mature; it is buoyant and, unlike other drupe fruits (fleshy with stony seed), it disperses its seed through the ocean. Rinjani Eruption! L'éruption du Rinjani

Thousands of tourists had to change their travel plans last month due to the eruption of Mount Rinjani, which started spouting volcanic ash from October 25th and erupted several times over the following weeks. Mt Barujari, a cinder cone located in the caldera of Mt. Rinjani, has been frequently erupting since 1257 and the latest eruption was in 2010. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that the volcanic ash spread to the Southwest and Northwest at a speed of 10 knots. Although evacuation efforts were not considered needed, dust masks were distributed in Lombok, and it was promptly decided to close the hike tracks of this popular tourist destination and the airports of Lombok, Bali and Banyuwangi (East Java). The effects of this natural hazard were felt in the Gili islands as well, where a milky sky, cloudy waters and dust strongly affected visibility. Des milliers de touristes ont dû changer leur plans suite à l'éruption du Volcan Rinjani, qui a commencé le 25 octobre et a continué au cours des semaines suivantes. Mont Barujari, un cône actif qui se trouve dans la caldeira du Mont Rinjani, est souvent entré en éruption depuis 1257 apr. J.C., la dernière éruption datant de 2010. Within a year it became the most famous Sunset Party Boat and one of the main adventure events on the Gilis. and its "whirljack"... JACK POINT, et son tourbillon de carangues...

One more site not to miss. Jack Point is preferable to dive early in the morning if you want to get more chance to make the most of the show. The site is located in the deep part North of Shark Point, in the North-West of Gili Trawangan. It is around 26-27 meters deep where you could meet the very impressive school of Jack fish, and to find yourself in the middle of the school would be an incredible memory. Frequently seen also: a school of Barracuda and another of Snapper which would add to your happiness. You would probably find also Reef Sharks, Whitetip and Blacktip and Stingray. It is a drift dive with a current from moderate to strong depending on the period. It is a dive reserved for "advance" and more because of the depth. Photographers would really enjoy it, but it would be an unforgettable moment for all divers. Encore un site à ne pas manquer. Jack Point est à plonger de préférence, tôt le matin, si vous voulez avoir plus de chance de profiter du spectacle. Le site se trouve dans la partie profonde au nord de Shark Point, soit au nord-ouest de Gili Trawangan. C'est aux alentours des 26-27 mètres de profondeur que vous pourrez rencontrer le banc plutôt impressionnant de carangues (Jack fish), qui croyez-le, si vous êtes pris au milieu, restera un souvenir incroyable. Fréquemment croisés aussi : un banc de barracudas et un autre de vivaneaux, qui viendront s'ajouter à votre bonheur. Vous trouverez probablement aussi des requins de récif, pointes blanches et pointes noires et des raies pastenagues. Il s'agit d'une plongée dérivante avec un courant de modéré à fort selon la période. Plongée réservée aux «advanced» et plus à cause de la profondeur. Les photographes se régaleront, mais ce sera pour tous un moment inoubliable.

Porcupinefish include a variety of species of highly toxic fish that inflate their body when in danger. When feeling attacked, they use their elastic stomach to fill their body with air or water and become a spiky ball several times their usual size.They have a beak-like mouth and their body is covered by sharp poisonous spikes. Their body is usually covered by dark spots on a pale background to blend in with the environment. Their body length ranges from 2 cm to 90 cm and it can weigh up to 3 kg according to the species. They are famous for their toxicity, as most species produce tetrodotoxin, a poison lethal to other fish and to humans too. In fact, the poison contained in a single porcupine fish can kill up to 30 human beings and there is no known antidote. Les poissons porcs-épics comprennent une variété de poissons très toxiques qui gonflent leur corps en cas de danger. Habitat

Porcupine fish usually live in shallow waters in tropical and subtropical oceans, but some adults have been reported at a depth of 200 metres. Their preferred habitat is coral and rocky reefs and are widely distributed worldwide. They can be found across Europe, North and South America as well as Oceania. Porcupine fish are broadcast spawners; males and females go towards the shore and release sperm and eggs in the water at the same time. The eggs are very light and float on the surface until they hatch, usually after about a week. The newly born are not fully developed fish and they will stay near the shore and in shallow waters until their fins are fully developed and are able to swim down the reef. Snorkeling (mask, snorkel, fins) is a good way to freely explore the waters around Gili islands! You can see turtles, all kinds of fish, blue-spotted stingrays... Let yourself drift with the current, whilst being careful because sometimes it can be very strong! You can rent the equipment very easily on all three islands. Another alternative is a snorkeling trip - a day out on a boat. You leave in the morning around 9am for a full circuit of the Gilis, visiting the best snorkeling spots of the three islands. You stop for lunch and finish about 4pm. You can book this trip on site or at your hotel. It's another sunny day in Gili Trawangan, and I decide to give myself a nice treat by stopping by at Ko-Ko-Mo for lunch. This luxury resort is also a reputed restaurant and, hearing that the chef changed a few months ago, I am very curious to test what is on the menu. On this hot day of late November, Ko-Ko-Mo's breezy terrace facing the ocean and a sandy beach is very inviting and, after a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters facing Mount Rinjani, I take a seatt in the sophisticated yet laid-back dining area, my feet in the sand and just wearing a simple sarong. C'est une autre journée ensoleillée à Gili Trawangan et je décide de me faire plaisir et de m'arrêter au Ko-Ko-mo pour déjeuner. Ce resort de luxe est aussi un restaurant renommé ; le chef a changé il y a peu de temps, je suis donc très curieuse d'essayer le nouveau menu. En cette journée de fin novembre, la terrasse face à l'océan et à la plage de sable blanc est très invitante et après un bain rafraichissant dans les eaux cristallines face au Mont Rinjani, je m'assieds dans le restaurant sophistiqué et pourtant décontracté, les pieds dans le sable et ne portant qu'un simple sarong.

chicken baguette, trying the fresh tuna apple salad or indulging in a plate of homemade crab ravioli, Amink, the restaurant manager, approaches me and kindly suggests to check the daily specials. With a passion for Vespas and a long experience in luxury hospitality, Amink's professionalism and friendliness immediately make me feel at home. I decide to go for the “old classic” fish fillet and I opt for have a crab & tuna salad as a starter; it seems the perfect combination for a fishbased lunch facing the sea! When the food comes, I am so stunned by the presentation that I almost do not want to touch the dish! The crab meat is so fresh and tender and the tuna sashimi simply melts in your mouth. Fresh and delicious, it is actually just the beginning of the feast. The snapper fillet represents the “fusion” character of KoKo-Mo's cuisine. Freshly caught white snapper on a bed of julienne veggies and topped with cous-cous and basil leaves! Just to remind you that good food is part of many cultures and it is all about fresh ingredients and good associations. Didik, the chef, comes to check if everything is alright and, my mouth still full of goodness, I nod with satisfaction, and he laughs. Here at Ko-Ko-Mo, not only the food

is amazing, but the great service and peaceful location certainly add points to the culinary experience! Voilà qu'Amink, le manageur, s'approche et me suggère d'essayer les plats du jour. Amink a une passion pour la Vespa et une longue expérience en hôtellerie de luxe et son professionnalisme et sa gentillesse me font sentir tout de suite à la maison. coté « fusion » de la cuisine du Ko-Ko-Mo. Un snapper fraichement péché sur un lit de légumes à la julienne et couvert de cous-cous et basilic ! In Indonesia, sarongs are used by people of any religion, ethnic group and social class; men typically wear a checked sarong when they are at home or to go to the mosque on Fridays, whereas women daily wear a colourful one with floral motifs. There are specific sarongs used for ceremonies and decorated with patterns carrying a distinct symbolic meaning; however, in today's fashion, sarongs are more and more popular and even used as beach wear or home decoration. Java is undoubtedly the place for batik, whereas Sumatra and Sulawesi are known for the production of beautiful ikat. Near the Gilis, Tenganan in Bali is famous for its rare double ikat and Pringgasela Village in East Lombok is known for the hand-made woven cloth products, which are traditionally made by women.

L'Indonésie, la terre du batik et du ikat Indonesia has been producing some of the most varied and highest quality ikat and batik textiles for the past 200 years. Although these fabric dyeing techniques did not originate in the Malay archipelago, they have been completely assimilated in the local textile tradition and ikat and batik textiles currently represent one of Indonesia's main exported products. Though distinct techniques, both can be considered art forms of creating decorated cloths. In ikat, the design is obtained by dyeing the threads before weaving them into fabric. By contrast, batiks are made by pouring wax on the patterns traced on the woven cloth. Both techniques produce colourful cloths with amazing patterns that are repeated on both sides. In fact, true ikat and batiks are reversible!

L'Indonésie produit certains tissus ikat et batik parmi les plus variés et de meilleure qualité depuis 200 ans. Même si ces techniques de teinture de tissu ne sont pas originaires de l'archipel malais, elles sont désormais complètement assimilées par la tradition textile locale et ces tissus représentent un des principaux produits d'exportation de l'Indonésie. Bien qu'il s'agisse de deux techniques distinctes, les deux sont considérées comme des formes d'art pour la création de tissus magnifiquement décorés. About batik A propos du Batik

High-quality batik is made with densely woven cloths, which allow to maintain the batik intricate design. Traditional design patterns have been handed down over generations; uniform design patterns are created using a “cap”, a copper string. Each cap is a precisely made copper block that corresponds to a design unit. Heated wax is kept in a “wajan”, a container that looks like a small wok. Wax is poured on the fabric using caps for homogenous design motifs and poured on the fabric with a “canting”, a pen-like tool, to define the details and the outlines of the design. The wet cloth is immersed in its first dye bath, after which the wax is removed. Wax is reapplied on the areas that will remain of the colour of the first dye or that will be coloured at a later stage. The cloth is immersed in other dye baths until the desired effect is achieved. The number of colours of a batik (and the price!) depends on how long and for how many times the cloth has been immersed in the dye baths and on the number of wax applications. Traditional Javanese batik colours were obtained by extracting pigments from plants. The first colours used were blue, beige, brown and black. Pour créer des motifs uniformes, on verse la cire sur les caps pressés sur le tissu, alors que pour définir les détails et les contours du dessin on verse la cire sur le tissu à l'aide d'un « canting », une sorte de stylo à bec en cuivre. Le tissu mouillé est immergé dans le premier bain de teinture, après quoi on enlève la cire. On réapplique la cire sur les parties du tissu qui resterons de la couleur du premier bain de teinture ou qui seront coloriées à un stade ultérieur. Le tissu est immergé dans d'autres bains de teinture jusqu'à obtenir l'effet escompté. Le nombre de couleurs d'un batik (et le prix !) dépendent de la durée et la quantité de bains de teinture et du nombre d'applications de cire. Les couleurs du batik javanais traditionnel étaient obtenus de l'extraction des pigments des plantes. Les premières couleurs étaient bleue, beige, marron et noir.

Underwater wedding! Notre mariage sous-marin Ă Bali! My boyfriend proposed to me in the sea, so it seemed logical to get married there too. After a legal wedding in France and a religious ceremony in Japan, we decided to get married in Bali. There is no need to break the bank or stress yourself with a guest list to have an underwater wedding. You are alone in the company of your darling, with fish for witnesses! However, you still need a little planning and patience. Take a nice wedding dress, white and light, with great length as a winged angel. Take a stylish black diving suit, which will dress the groom in style. Remember to take a few accessories: flowers in beautiful Balinese silver box, but also bananas to attract colorful fish. For your safety, I suggest you take a class to learn apnea: Oli Christen our instructor at Freedive Flow in Gili Air has more than helped us because he taught us how to breathe, and even offered us a great golden buoy for our wedding. Finally, ask the talented diver-photographer Delphine Bonnon, who accompanied us to capture our underwater wedding. On the wedding day, we went to our favorite beach in Bali, the Blue lagoon, and we entered into the sea to recite our vows. In the beautiful silver box, we put frangipani flowers, hibiscus, bougainvillea, dreams, promises, our joys and our sorrows. Then we entered the water, I with my bridal bouquet, which was soon swept away by a wave, and my darling with the golden buoy. A few meters down, we moved away from the astonished eyes of some divers groups. In a coral garden, we put the silver box in the sand, and after having taken a deep breath while holding the golden buoy with both hands, together we went down in the sea snorkeling. Seeing nothing, guided by love and fuzzy form, without any makeup or artifice, in the wave I swam as deep as I could. My lover laid my hands on his and we kissed, we swore eternal love even without oxygen, in front a school of colorful fish. While the waves seemed to applaud, we opened this beautiful silver box, and thousands of flowers broke away. The fish rushed into this strange whirlwind, attracted by the pieces of banana that we had hidden there. It was only a few seconds for us, alone and fragile in the immensity of the ocean, far from conventions and gravity, but it was a marriage as it should be for lovers of the sea and freedom.

Mon petit ami m’a demandé en mariage dans la mer, alors il nous a semblé logique de nous y unir aussi. Après un mariage civil en France et une cérémonie religieuse au Japon, nous avons décidé de nous marier chez nous à Bali. Pour faire un mariage sous-marin, nul besoin de vous ruiner, ni de vous stresser avec une liste d’invités. Vous êtes seuls en compagnie de votre cher et tendre, avec les poissons pour témoins ! Néanmoins, il faut quand même un peu d’organisation et de patience. Prenez une belle robe de mariée, blanche et légère, avec un immense voile tel un ange ailé. Prenez une noire et douce tenue de plongée, qui habillera le marié en toute élégance. N’oubliez pas quelques accessoires : des fleurs dans une belle boîte balinaise argentée, mais aussi des bananes pour attirer les poissons colorés. Pour votre sécurité, je vous conseille de suivre un cours d’apnée : notre instructeur Oli Christen de Freedive Flow à Gili Air nous a plus qu’aidés, car il nous a appris ce qu’était respirer, et nous a même offert une superbe bouée de secours Gililife 78

dorée pour notre mariage. Enfin, demandez la talentueuse plongeusephotographe Delphine Bonnon, qui nous a accompagnés en bouteille pour immortaliser notre mariage sous-marin. Le jour J, nous sommes allés sur notre plage préférée à Bali, le Lagon bleu, et nous sommes entrés dans la mer pour réciter nos vœux. Dans la belle boîte argentée, nous avons mis des fleurs de frangipanier, des hibiscus, des bougainvilliers, des rêves, des promesses, nos joies comme nos peines. Puis nous sommes entrés dans l’eau, moi avec mon bouquet de mariée, qui fut bien vite d’une vague balayé, et mon amoureux avec la bouée dorée. À quelques mètres de profondeur, nous nous sommes installés, loin des regards étonnés des plongeurs en palanquée. Dans un jardin de corail, la boîte argentée nous avons déposée, et après avoir bien respiré en tenant à deux mains la bouée dorée, ensemble nous sommes descendus dans la mer en apnée. Sans rien voir, guidée par l’amour et des formes floues, sans maquillage ni artifice aucun, dans l’onde j’avançais. Mon amoureux a

posé mes mains sur les siennes et nous nous sommes embrassés, nous jurant un amour éternel, même sans oxygène, parmi une nuée de poissons multicolores. Alors que les vagues applaudissaient, nous avons ouvert cette belle boîte argentée, et des milliers de fleurs s’en sont échappées. Les poissons se sont précipités dans ce tourbillon étrange, attirés par les morceaux de banane que nous y avions dissimulés. Ce fut seulement quelques secondes que notre couple s’est retrouvé seul et fragile dans l’immensité, loin des conventions et de la gravité, mais ce fut un mariage comme il se doit pour des amoureux de la mer et de la liberté. Warung is one of the words in Bahasa Indonesian you are likely to hear more often. Meaning “small restaurant”, in Indonesia and in Malaysia a warung is an institution that indicates local food at a cheap price and in a familiar atmosphere. This word does not indicate the speed the meal will be served and it can be a fast food restaurant or a slow pace one according to what you decide to eat. If you go for nasi campur (mix rice), you will just have to pick what you want from the dishes on display and eat it right away. If you go for the warung best sellers such as mie goreng (fried noodles), nasi goreng (fried rice) or soto ayam (chicken soup), you will have the time to crack into a couple of krupuk (rice crackers) and burn your lips sipping a teh manis panas (sweetened hot tea) before you get served. In case you are daring and order some Western dish on the menu, you may end up spending the whole day in the warung and eventually become a member of the local family who run the place! with pandan leaves and passion fruit crèmes de coco aux feuilles de pandan et fruits de la passion

Ingredients: - 3 passion fruits - 35 cL coconut milk - 2 pieces of pandan leaves - 1 tea spoon of liquid vanilla extract - 30 cL sour cream - 2 tea spoons sugar - 1 or 2 gelatin sheets Ingrédients : - 3 fruits de la passion - 35 cl de lait de coco - 2 feuilles de pandan - 1 c. a c. d extrait de vanille liquide - 30 cl de creme liquide - 2 c a s. de sucre - 1 à 2 feuilles de gelatine

Serves 4 Pour 4 pers.

METHOD - PREPARATION In a saucepan, mix the sugar with 50 cL of water until it starts boiling. Add coconut milk, vanilla extract, sour cream and pandan leaves; cook for 15 min on low heat. Meanwhile, soften the gelatin sheets in a bowl of cold water for 5 minutes. Then remove the pandan leaves from the pan and add the gelatin sheets. Turn off the heat and stir well with a whisk to dissolve the gelatin sheets completely. Finally, pour the preparation in to small bowls and leave them in the fridge overnight. Pour some passion fruit on top just before serving. Dans une casserole chauffer le sucre dans 50 cl d'eau jusqu’ a ce qu’il soit dissout. Ajouter le lait de coco, l’extrait de vanille et les feuilles de pandan puis laisser infuser pendant 15 min à feux doux. Pendant ce temps, faire ramollir les feuilles de gélatine dans un bol d’eau froide pendant 5 min. Puis enlever les feuilles de pandan de votre casserole et ajouter les feuilles de gélatine. Retirer du feu et mélanger au fouet pour qu’elles se dissolvent vite et uniformément. Verser ensuite votre préparation dans des petits bols et placer-les au frais toute une nuit. Le lendemain, avant de servir, verser sur le dessus, la chair et le jus des fruits de la passion.

nce upon a time, on a dark night in the Gili islands, a very old lady was making a piece of fabric in her tiny little straw house. Clic, clic! Clac, clac! She was using an ancient loom that she had inherited from her great grandmother. She used it carefully, as this loom was like an old friend that had never failed her. She would sing “Good old loom, let’s make a great suit for the groom!” Indeed her great grandson was to get married the next morning. But suddenly, she realized that she had run out of silk! She was desperate, but went to sleep as there was nothing else to do. At midnight, a few geckos who had heard everything, went down the wall and decided to help her. They went to the garden, picked up some colorful flowers, and created some very delicate silk strings from the petals. Then, they used the loom with their little sticky fingers, clic, clic! Clac, clac! Geckos are very talented at weaving, and within a few hours, they had made the most beautiful fabric ever. At dawn, the old lady found the gorgeous cloth on the loom. What a surprise for her! She brought it to the wedding, and since then it is called a “sarong”. Geckos are still laughing about it! Il était une fois, par une nuit noire comme il y en a beaucoup aux îles Gili, une très vieille dame qui tissait dans sa petite hutte au toit de paille. Clic, clic ! Clac, clac ! Elle utilisait un très ancien métier à tisser qu’elle avait hérité de son arrière grandmère. Elle l’utilisait avec beaucoup de précautions, comme s’il s’agissait d’un ami loyal. Elle chantait : « Vieux métier à tisser, faisons ensemble un beau vêtement pour le marié ! » En effet, son arrière petit fils allait se marier le lendemain. Mais soudain, elle se rendit compte qu’elle n’avait plus de soie ! Elle fut désespérée, mais n’eut d’autre choix que de se coucher. À minuit, quelques geckos qui avaient tout écouté, descendirent du mur de la maison de paille pour l’aider. Ils allèrent dans le jardin pour y cueillir des fleurs, et ils filèrent de la soie à partir de pétales. Puis, ils utilisèrent le vieux métier à tisser avec leurs petits doigts gluants, clic, clic ! Clac, clac ! Les geckos sont très habiles et font de bons tisserands. En seulement quelques heures ils avaient créé un magnifique tissu brodé. À l’aube, la vieille dame trouva cette étonnante étoffe qu’elle apporta au mariage et que l’on appelle depuis « sarong ». Les geckos en rient encore aujourd’hui ! There are cidomos (horse and cart) available for hire on the three islands and bicycle rentals on GILI T, Gili Air and now Gili meno. Vous pouvez vous déplacer en Cidomo (charrette à cheval) sur les 3 îles ou louer un vélo sur Gili T, Gili Air et maintenant à Gili Meno

On Gili Air public boats leave to Lombok starting at 7:30am. Meno to Lombok, twice a day, at 8am and 3pm. And on Gili T starting at 7am until 5pm. Sur Gili Air les bateaux publics partent vers Lombok à partir de 7h30. Sur Gili Meno, deux fois par jour à 8h et 15h. Sur Gili T à partir de 7h du matin jusqu'à 17 h.

Sometimes there are power cuts on the 3 islands but the resorts have generators.

INTERNET - WIFI Internet cafes are in abundance on Gili T- mainly on the developed east. On Gili Air there are 3 internet cafes and there are 2 on Meno (see map for locations). WIFI is available on all three islands at a variety of restaurants and resorts. Il y a de nombreux "internet café" sur Gili T, principalement à l'est. HEALTH - SANTE There are clinics on all three Gili Islands (see maps) offering basic treatments and medicines. For serious ailments there are hospitals (rumah sakit) and dentists in Lombok (see directory). Pour les maladies plus graves, il y a des hôpitaux (rumah sakit) et des dentistes à Lombok (voir l'annuaire).

IDR - RUPIAH You can change your foreign currency and pay by debit/

credit card in most dive centers and resort hotels, however, cash remains the only form of payment for most accommodation/food in The Gili's. Vous pouvez changer vos devises et payer par carte dans la plupart des centres de plongée et hôtels, cependant, l'espèce reste la forme de paiement la plus courante.

BEWARE DON'T SWIM BETWEEN THE ISLANDS Bear in mind that the Gili Islands are exposed to open oceans and can have incredibly strong currents running between and around them, and trade winds which create choppy seas. For this reason- always check daily conditions before commencing oceanic sports and know that it is NOT recommended to swim between the islands no matter your skill level.
