THE ESSEX-BASED FAMILY-RUN BUSINESS, JET WHEEL TYRE, HAS BEATEN COMPETITION FROM 65 DEALERS ACROSS THE UK TO TAKE THE ACCOLADE OF PIRELLI PERFORMANCE CENTRE (PPC) OF THE YEAR. Jet Wheel Tyre employs more than 25 staff and is primarily a tyre retailer holding 6,000 tyres in stock, of which 75% are premium performance products. “The objective behind the Pirelli Performance Centre concept is to provide a network of dealers with high technical levels and commitment to service, allowing Pirelli to confidently direct drivers of High Performance cars into these high standard depots. PPCs are stringently audited and tested, making Jet Wheel Tyre’s achievement all the more impressive,” said Dominic Sandivasci, Managing Director of Pirelli UK Tyres Ltd.
To test customer service levels each of the 14 platinum PPCs was visited by a mystery shopper, from an independent company, secretly videoing their customer journey. The video was instrumental in deciding the overall winner. Mr Sandivasci said Jet Wheel Tyre had progressed through the PPC rankings rapidly, highlighting the company’s attention to improving the business. “Jet Wheel Tyre is on top if its game. Not only did it achieve the gold PPC standard in March 2009 after its first ever Pirelli audit, but thanks to strong commitment from the management and staff, it has excelled to become one of only 14 dealers in the UK to gain Pirelli’s top platinum ranking. And now it has won the coveted title of PPC of the year,” he said. Cliff Crane, Managing Director of Jet Wheel Tyre, said he imagines winning PPC of the year feels like topping the premiership.

Each PPC centre undertakes a constant programme of quality and technical evaluation, achieved through regular audits which cover a wide spectrum of areas. These include working practices, standard and maintenance of equipment, housekeeping and procedures which relating to tyre/wheel removal and replacement. Each PPC is graded according to the audit pass level achieved, silver, gold and platinum.

Gaining the award is acknowledgement that we are one of the very best centres in the UK, which is a real boost for everyone here. All of the staff are really proud of the jackets, travel bags, sweatshirts and other rewards that Pirelli has given them.” As well as providing prizes for the staff, Pirelli also donated money to Jet Wheel Tyre which the company has invested in decorating the waiting area with a display of rally tyres, and replacing signage to acknowledge their recent PPC achievement.
