Trails & Walks in Perthshire “Put on your walking shoes and come to explore the stunning walks in and around our small city�



rom the long distance route of the Cateran Trail to the truly unique Corbenic Poetry Walk, there’s nowhere quite like Perthshire to pull on your walking shoes. Whether you’re a seasoned walker looking for a challenge or just want to get out of the house for a leisurely stroll, you will find a walk to suit your needs in every area of the region. Short, level walks such as the City Centre stroll along the River Tay and through the

Stay for a short break and you will discover many of these scenic routes, each offering its own wonderful elements to ensure a new experience awaits you every day. Kinnoull Hill One of the most iconic walks in Perthshire, Kinnoull Hill offers stunning views over the River Tay and the city below. With fine woodlands, a dramatic clifftop escarpment and the renowned tower near the top, the walk is an excellent circuit when started from Perth City Centre and is suitable for walkers of all levels of ability. Starting point: Perth City Centre Distance of walk: 4 miles (2 to 3 hours) While You’re Here: After working up an appetite with the walk, why not grab a bite to eat and some drinks in the city centre!


The Cateran Trail A long distance route that straddles the Perthshire-Angus border, the Cateran Trail takes you through stunning landscapes and majestic mountain views. As well as the breathtaking scenery, you will encounter much of Scotland’s native wildlife as you make your way along the circular route. Select small chunks, or walk it all in around 6 days. Starting Point: Blairgowrie, 16 miles from Perth City Centre. Distance of walk: 64miles (5 or 6 days) While You’re Here: There is accommodation for each night on the trail – in Bridge of Cally, Kirkmichael, Spital of Glenshee, Kirkton of Glen Isla and Alyth.


River Tay Walk This glorious walk takes you along the banks of the River Tay from Perth to Luncarty – a picturesque village just outside of the city. The route is clearly marked throughout and has a flat, well surfaced path for easy walking and cycyling. Regular buses can be caught from Luncarty back to Perth should you decide to stop Starting Point: North Inch Distance of walk: 6.25miles one way (Perth to Luncarty) While You’re Here: The Luncarty Inn has a bar and restaurant, with an outdoor area for sunny days, to enjoy some refreshments after your River Tay walk.


Perth City Walk The final stage of the famous Rob Roy Way is the Aberfeldy to Pitlochry walk through Highland Perthshire. Stunning scenery awaits you as you follow the River Tay east from Aberfeldy to the picturesque village of Grandtully. A climb up over the moors into a forested descent brings you to the town of Pitlochry where you’ll find plenty going on in the local area! Starting Point: The Square, Aberfeldy, 31 miles from Perth City Centre Distance of walk: 9.5 miles, 5 hours While You’re Here: After the walk, pop into the cafés, pubs and restaurants in Pitlochry or take in a show at Pitlochry Festival Theatre.


The Birks of Aberfeldy A beautiful walk popularised in song by Robert Burns, this is a short walk on a well-used route, passing the steep gorge of the Moness Burn where you will find a series of beautiful waterfalls, Less experienced walkers will be glad to hear there are handrails and stairs much of the way, making it an easier climb on steeper parts. Starting point: Birks car park in Aberfeldy, 31 miles from Perth Distance of walk: 2.25 miles While You’re Here: Visit the nearby Birks Cinema to catch a movie after your walk, or relax with coffee in one of the cafÊs in Aberfeldy.
