Experience the beauty of Perth’s riverside walk as the Riverside Light Nights return for 2018. Come and join us for some family fun to finish off Perth’s Winter Festival with a bang. The Riverside Light Nights start on 27 January and finish on 14 February. We have a fantastic programme of themed nights so there will be lots of different things to see each time you visit.

Monday 29 January, Thursday 1, Thursday 8, Friday 9 & Monday 12 February - Illumination Nights For those of you who want to grab a great photo or just enjoy the Riverside Park without all the activities we have Illumination only nights taking place on 29 January and 1, 8, 9 and 12 February. There will still be food and beverage providers on-site to help keep you warm.


Saturday 27 January - A Celebration of Burns

(Supported by Scotland’s Winter Festivals) Come along to celebrate the national bard.

6.00 pm Themed parade commences from Perth City Centre - 2 High Street, along St John Street to Norie-Miller 6.20 pm Parade ends at Norie-Miller 6.20 pm

Themed entertainment commences featuring (continues to 10.00 pm) :

o Music: traditional pipe bands

o Rap: bringing Burns songs and tales to the modern era

o Dance: highland dance and the Small Ceilidh Corner!

o Storytelling: Burns tales

o Poetry

o Comedy: Stand-up Burns Zone

o Visual: through lighting and props

7.00 pm Address to the Haggis 9.45 pm Toast to the immortal memory of Rabbie Burns 10.00 pm Communal Auld Lang Syne


Sunday 28 January - A Celebration of Burns 5.00 pm

Lighting theme commences at Riverside area. Themed entertainment commences featuring (continues to 10.00 pm) :

o Music: traditional pipe bands

o Dance: highland dance and the Big Ceilidh Corner!

o Storytelling: Burns tales

o Comedy: Stand-up Burns Zone

o Visual: through lighting and props

o Food: representing the many types of food associated with Burns Night such as cock-a-leekie soup; haggis; neeps and tatties; cranachan, bannocks and Whisky. 7.00 pm

Tuesday 30 & Wednesday 31 January - Superheroes Make sure you dig out your best superhero costumes and head along to see what super effects are turning Perth into a City of Superheroes. One of the original 1960’s Batmobiles will be on-site - so bring your camera.

Friday 2 & Saturday 3 February - Super Bright Silent Night For these nights you need to channel your inner raver and look out the neon and glow sticks. There will be face-painting, acrobactics, the SPARK! Drummers (Saturday only) and much more. Take your headset and boogie through the park to the silent disco.

Sunday 4 & Monday 5 February - Wonderland Join in with a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, look out for the Queen of Hearts and the very late White Rabbit. Ad-Lib are back to bring Wonderland to life with their amazing characters and props. Curiouser and curiouser.

Tuesday 6 & Wednesday 7 February - Yellow Brick Road Watch out for the flying monkeys and ruby slippers as we leave Kansas behind and head to Oz. Ad-lib Theatre Arts will be taking you on a journey down the Yellow Brick Road.


Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 February - Chinese New Year Follow the Chinese Dragon as it leads the annual Chinese New Year Parade on 10 February from 2 High Street, along St John Street and across the Queen’s Bridge to the Riverside Light Nights. There will be plenty of Chinese themed activities over the weekend to help usher in the Chinese New Year.

Tuesday 13 & 14 February - St Valentine's Day Write your Valentine’s note and tie them to our trees of love around the Riverside Park. Stroll through the romantic gardens and enjoy a glass of something fizzy. This year we are hoping for a proposal or 2! Be serenaded by the entertainers.


Every weekend you can practise your circus skills with Adventure Circus. Learn how to juggle, hula-hoop and have a shot in the silks! Our amazing fire acts will also be joining in the party at all of the themed nights. Make sure you visit the photo booth and get a souvenir of your visit.

FAQ Are dogs welcome? Dogs with their responsible owners are welcome on all evenings but we ask that they are kept on leads. However, on the evenings of 27 January and 10 February there will be some small fireworks and firecrackers at the event.

Is the event accessible for wheelchair users? Although there are some stairs in the Riverside Park area, all levels are fully accessible for visitors who use wheelchairs.

Is there a charge for the event? No the event is free although there is a charge for food and drink from the vendors.

Can we come in fancy dress? Yes please - we would love to see people joining in with the various themes.

Where should we park? Parking is free on-street after 6.00 pm in Perth City Centre. We recommend that you park in the city centre and walk over to the event. There is no parking at the event. For full info on parking in Perth visit www.pkc.gov.uk/parking Visitors with impaired mobility will be able to be dropped off but there is no disabled parking on site.


How do we get into the event? This year there is only one entrance to the event which is located at the lower end of the Riverside Park at the Pagado - please follow the signs.

Will there be toilets? There are portaloos provided at the exit for the event.

If the weather is poor, will the event be cancelled? In the event of severe weather any decisions to cancel the event will be promoted on the @PerthandKinross and @Perthcitycentre social media channels.

Where can I post my photos? Feel free to tag @Perthcitycentre in your social postings and use #perthlightnights

Can we bring our own food and drink? There are a variety of food vendors providing lots of delicious dishes for you to try but feel free to bring your own picnic if you want. However no alcohol can be brought into the event and any alcohol bought at the event cannot be taken out with the event zone.

Is there a charge for the photo booth? No this is free of charge.

What is the last time for entry? The last time for entry is 9.45 pm, the event closes at 10.00 pm.
