VULNERABLE URBANISM

In the center of the vulnerable area lies a sweetwater bassin. The southside of the former Zuiderzee, the Markermeer. The lake was supposed to be the next polder after de Flevopolder as planned by ir. Lely.

Once driven by the tide, building the Afsluitdijk and Houtribdijk led to a closed bassin. This strategy gained a sweet water bassin but also resulted in a muddy pool.

The Markermeer is valued as a Natura2000 area. Heavy winds are mixing mud and water and threatening the ecological base.

A landscape strategy called MARKER WADDEN is deployed to increase the ecological fertility.
