Dr Biccard’s Farewell Assembly

Mrs S.C. Monyai

A sincere thank you to all parents and children who contributed towards Dr Biccard’s gift that was presented to her during her assembly. Dr Biccard was really grateful and appreciated the gift. Once again, we thank her for all her hard work in the Maths department, she will be missed!

Acting Deputies Congratulations to Mrs Shee and Mrs Daniels (Lee Fon) who are acting as deputy principals until the position is filled by the Education Department. We wish these ladies all the best as they act in this position to enhance their careers.

Bring & Braai Social Thank you to all parents, guardians, children and staff who attended the Bring & Braai. The evening was a huge success and a fun-filled event. Thank you to everyone who supported us! A special thank you to the support staff for preparing the braais and grounds. Thanks to the tuck shop team for taking orders for pap and sous, and salads. It all seemed to work very well, and the children had lots of fun and loved the glow sticks.

Late Coming It is very important that children are dropped off at school on time every day, so that they can start the day properly with their peers. We encourage parents to leave home earlier so as to make sure that they are not affected by the traffic. We have had to move our late-coming teachers on duty from the school gate to the school foyer. This is as a result of a number of incidents where staff were verbally abused by some parents. Parents are required to make sure that their children have walked in through the gate with the security guard. No parents are allowed to accompany their children to class after school has started. After 07:30, all children will access the school via the front office foyer, only.

Learners dropped off before 07:00 Children that are dropped off at school before 07:00 can access the school via the Milner Street gate. Kindly take note that there is no teacher supervision at this time. The children may not play on the swings or jungle gyms at this time.

Sports & Cultural Activities The number of children who are taking part in extra-mural activities has increased tremendously thank you to all the children and parents. Remember to check the time when your child’s activity starts and ends so that fetching arrangements can be made. Parents are required to register their children at an aftercare facility should they not be in a position to collect them directly after school or an extra-mural activity.

Marking of School Uniforms The amount of lost property is increasing. These items are expensive to replace! Parents must please mark all uniform items and encourage their children to check on the hooks outside the sport’s office and Mrs Shee’s classroom if they have lost something. Do not just replace the item without first encouraging your child to come and check the lost property hooks.

Packing of Schoolbags Learners must pack their bags according to their daily timetables to assist with the weight of the bags.

Hair Styles Boys and girls are reminded to wear their WPS uniform with pride and make sure that their hair is done or cut according to the school rules. Fancy hairstyles and colouring of hair is not allowed, and would be a waste of money, as the children will be required to re-do their hair according to the rules.

Charity

Mrs J. Shee

A huge thank you to all the parents, staff and children who donated beans and fresh fruit and vegetables this term for our charity projects. Your generosity is always quite overwhelming. I have met some of the recipients of the food you have sent. They are clearly incredibly grateful to have a place to go to get one nourishing meal a day!

Train your Brain

Mrs J. Shee

All children were issued with the ‘Train your Brain’ fundraiser letter on 15 February 2016. Please support this project as it allows us to purchase items that improve our school and facilities. The money from this year’s ‘Train your Brain’ will be used to purchase the sound system that we had on loan the night of the Parent Bring & Braai. This is a portable system that can be used in our hall, outside on the fields and in classrooms. Please be generous, your children will benefit directly from your support.

From the Sportsdesk

Mrs J. de Beer

Congratulations to Cheyenne Barnard on her results at her first Sanesa horse riding show. Congratulations to Georgia Kennealy on her amazing achievement at the Gauteng North Primary School Tennis Championships. Georgia did extremely well but was, unfortunately, beaten in the finals!
