Children leaving the School Parents of children not returning to WPS in 2014 must please notify the school in writing as soon as their decision not to return is final. Not returning the Re-registration Form is not sufficient notification that your child is not coming back in 2014.

Charity

Mrs J. Shee

The end of the year is approaching fast and once again we have been contacted by the two charities we have supported in the past with Christmas gifts for children aged between 1 and 16. Without your generosity these children will not experience the joy and excitement of opening a gift, especially for them, on Christmas morning. If you would like to send in an appropriate new gift, please do so, unwrapped, by 29 November 2013. Thank you!

Traffic Warning

Mrs L. Eagle

The Metro Police have been monitoring traffic around the school for some time, and have asked us to issue the following warning to parents. Fines will be issued to parents who approach the school in Milner Street from the east, i.e. from Crown Ave., cross over the solid white line to park and drop off their children, and then proceed to cross back over the solid line, on their way down Milner Street. It is an offense to cross the solid white line. The police recommend that parents drive down Milner Street from the west, i.e. Rose Ave. and drop their children off safely. Alternatively, the children can be dropped off on the opposite side of the road, and cross at the Milner Street scholar patrol crossing. This rule is valid at all drop-off places around the school.

Wings of Love Thank you to all children and parents. WPS contributed 568 tins of baked beans to this charity for inclusion in their food hampers for those in need. Your incredible generosity is appreciated.

WPS Choir Evening

Mrs J. Shee

Congratulations to our junior and senior choirs on their magnificent performance with the Croons and Betsie Chauke. Our ‘Barnyard Style Evening’ was great fun for children, parents and performers alike. A resounding thank you to Mrs Ross, Miss Voigt and Mrs Lubbe for all their hard work with the choirs over this past year. Well done to all!

From the Sportsdesk

Mrs J. de Beer

There will be NO extra-murals for the weeks ending 1 and 8 November, but they will resume as per extramural timetable from 11 November until the week ending 29 November 2013.

Tennis - We are well under way with our tennis championships and the children have played their hearts out. Good luck to the players in the finals.

Cricket - The boys had a good final term, winning most of their matches. Matches have now come to an end, and practices will resume after the exams on 11 November 2013. The practices this year will be for teams in Term 1 2014, and boys will practice as per their age group next year. Present Gr 2 boys, U/8, will practise on Wednesdays from 14:15 - 15:15. Present U/9 boys will practise on Tuesdays from 14:15 - 15:30. Present U/10 boys will practise on Mondays from 14:15 - 15:30. Present U/11 and U/12 boys will practise on Mondays and Thursdays from 14:15 - 15:30. Present U/13 boys will assist on Mondays and Thursdays.

Swimming - The A and B teams took part in galas last week Friday - the A team came first in a strongly contested gala at Hatfield Christian School, but, while the B team swimmers swam their hearts out, a depleted team was beaten by the four other schools. Well done to all our swimmers who are training hard for the Interhouse Gala on Friday 15 November 2013. Congratulations to Kayleigh Adamson, Diego de Aveiro and Rachel-Ann van Biljon, who were selected to represent NTS at the Inter Provincial Gala, held on 26 October 2013.

Wrestling - Luke and Matthew Sigalas participated in the Gauteng North Youth and Junior Wrestling Championships. Luke came fourth in his weight group and Matthew came first in his weight group. The brothers then competed at the Regionals and did just as well. Well done, Matthew and Luke!

Hockey - If any children are interested in attending hockey clinics, please contact Mrs de Beer for details.
