WATERKLOOF PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 20 – 2015 Annual General Meeting

2 November 2015 Mrs S.C. Monyai

A reminder that the SGB Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday 10 November 2015 at 18:00 in the school hall. Parents must please attend this very important meeting. The budget for 2016 will be discussed and school fees decided.

Children leaving WPS Parents of children leaving the school at the end of the year who are in arrears will be listed (or remain listed) until payment is received in full. Summons will be issued against defaulting parents. Parents of children not returning to WPS in 2015 must please notify the school in writing as soon as their decision not to return is final. Not returning the Re-registration Form is not sufficient notification that your child is not coming back in 2016.

The Spruit Clean-up

Mrs J. Shee

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Words cannot adequately express my sincere thanks to all the staff, parents and children who supported this project. So many people arrived that we had the spruit looking pristine in an hour - “Many hands make light work!”. Many of our children have spoken to me to say how much they enjoyed making a difference. Well done Waterkloof!

New Christmas Gifts for Children in Need

Please support this term’s charity project to provide a new gift for a child between the ages of 1 to 18. Many children do not have a Christmas filled with cheer due to their home circumstances. We ask you to please be generous and light up someone else’s life with a special gift. Your kindness always makes a difference in many children’s lives.

Ground Staff Collection

Mrs C. Prinsloo

All parents are invited to send to school any non-perishable food items for our annual ground staff Christmas food collection. All contributions must be delivered to Mrs Prinsloo’s classroom, or to reception.

Inter House Gala – Friday 13 November 2015 Our annual Inter House Gala will take place on Friday 13 November 2015 at 08:30. It is compulsory for all learners from Grades 4 to 7 to attend this last big sporting event for the year. Swimmers may only swim two individual strokes, the individual medley and the relays for their house. Children must make sure that, should they want to take part, they give their names to Mrs de Beer. As it can be quite a bewildering experience and a hot and tiring day, we suggest that children in Grades R to 3, who are not participating in the gala, stay at home. The foundation phase children who cannot stay at home may attend the gala with the older grades. Grade R to 3 children who do not attend will not forfeit their eligibility for a full attendance certificate. Learners in Grades 5 and 7 are to please supply a plate of eats for the parents. We look forward to an enjoyable day and invite all parents to bring their umbrellas and chairs and join us at this fun event.

Cameron has also been selected to represent AUTOHAUS Centurion at the 2015 Junior Masters Tournament to be held in early December. Congratulations to Cameron and Jayden.

Recycling

Mrs L. Eagle

Mom/dad needed to help with Wednesday morning recycling As of 2016 we will be one mom less at the Recycling Depot. Mrs Laurianne van Biljon has been helping there faithfully for the past 3 years and will be leaving as this is her last year with children at WPS. I would like to express my sincere and grateful thanks to her for her enthusiasm, energy and commitment in doing an excellent job at sorting all the unsorted bags of recyclable (and even sometimes non recyclable) materials. Laurianne, you have done an outstanding job, you have “made a remarkable difference” and you will be sorely missed. Anyone who is interested in joining our depleted parent group helping at the Recycling Depot and is prepared to spend about 45 – 60 minutes each Wednesday morning between 7 and 8 should contact Mrs Eagle urgently! Your assistance is needed. Mrs Elizabeth Boje, an ex-parent of WPS, has been collecting plastic bottle lids from milk bottles and colddrink bottles, as part of a charity project to provide wheelchairs for needy people. She has painstakingly removed many lids from bottles brought to our recycling depot and kindly donated the bottles she collects. This photo shows her with Ms Catherine Mokwane , the very happy recipient of one of the wheelchairs she and her team has “earned”. She will be donating another 2 in the Winterveldt within the next week. One will go to a five year old boy and the other to an old gentleman. Thankyou to all those WPS contributers who have kindly separated the lids from the bottles and made this huge collection of lids possible. Team work really pays off! Please keep on collecting the lids as we will continue to support her sterling efforts. Please remember we are also still collecting breadtags for the same purpose – this project is still running!
