WATERKLOOF PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 19 – 2014

17 November 2014

Children leaving the School

Mrs E. Westdyk

Parents of children not returning to WPS in 2015 must please notify the school in writing as soon as their decision not to return is final. Not returning the Re-registration Form is not sufficient notification that your child is not coming back in 2015.

School Fees

School Governing Body

Kindly take note that the full school fees for the 2014 academic year should have been paid by 31 October 2014. Failure to pay the full school fees by said date will result in parents being listed with the credit bureau. Please check your monthly statements very carefully. The onus is on parents to notify the school of any discrepancies on their statement as the school will not be held responsible for any possible errors which have not be queried by parents.

Representative Council of Learners

Dr P. Biccard

Congratulations to Savannah Carvalheiro and Rea Shaba who were voted as the head girl and head boy of the 2014 RCL.

RCL Cake & Candy and Civvies Day

Dr P. Biccard

Thank you most sincerely for your very generous support of our Cake & Candy sale that was held on Friday 31 October 2014. Together with the Civvies Day money, an unbelievable amount of approximately R6 300.00 was raised! This money will contribute towards the RCL gift that will be given to the school at the end of the year. Your contribution is greatly appreciated!

Lost Property

Mrs J. Shee

Lost property is hung in the passage, on hooks, outside Mr Snyman’s office and outside Mrs Shee’s classroom. Please remember all lost property that has not been collected by 08:00 on the last day of the term is sent to charity.

Learning, Formal Assessments and Exams

Mrs J. Shee

Parents and children, please take note that the learning process does not stop with the writing of exams. All the children will continue with normal lessons after the November exams have been written. The CAPS curriculum is extremely demanding in all subjects and vital work for the next grade will be covered right up until the end of the academic year on 10 December 2014. No children can be excused from learning to go on holiday! Parents, we will appreciate your support in this regard. We are trying hard to instil a culture of learning in our learners.

From the Sportsdesk

Mrs J. de Beer

Cricket - The U/13 boys lost to Cornwall Hill in the

T20 knockout, but fought hard against a very strong Cornwall Hill team. Well tried, boys!

Waterpolo - The following Grade 7 boys, Bruce

Anderson, William Anderson, Keaton Howes, Declan Humphries, Tristan Lunt, Matthew Neser, Tshepiso Ntuli, Ronan Perring and Daniel Williams have received their North Gauteng colours for U/13 Waterpolo.

They will be playing for Northern Tigers Waterpolo from 12 - 16 December 2014. Good luck to these nine boys.

Ballet - Kuhle Qubu came first and second in different sections of the Dance Art Competition organised by dance mistress Joy Cooper. Well done, Kuhle!

Swimming - Rachel-Ann van Biljon was chosen for the Gauteng North Provincial team. At the trials held at the end of October, Rachel-Ann received a bronze medal for the 100m Breasstroke, a silver medal for the Medley Relay and a gold medal for the Freestyle Relay. Well done, RachelAnn!

Inter House Gala – Friday 21 November 2014 Our annual Inter House Gala will take place on Friday 21 November 2014 at 08:30. It is compulsory for all learners from Grades 4 to 7 to attend this last big sporting event for the year. Swimmers may only swim two individual strokes, the individual medley and the relays for their house. The team list will be available after the exams. Children can still give their names to Mrs de Beer should they want to take part in the gala. As it can be quite a bewildering experience and a hot and tiring day, we suggest that children in Grades 1 to 3, who are not participating in the gala, stay at home. The foundation phase children who cannot stay at home may attend the gala with the older grades. Grade R to 3 children who do not attend will not forfeit their eligibility for a full attendance certificate. Learners in Grades 4 and 6 are to please supply a plate of eats for the parents. We look forward to an enjoyable day and invite all parents to bring their umbrellas and chairs and join us at this fun event.

Charity

Mrs J. Shee

Thank you to all children who have sent in gifts for needy children. Any families who would still like to send in something please do so by Friday 28 November 2014, as the gifts will be collected on this day. Thank you to all the children and parents who sent in old clothes. These have been sent to a home in Mamelodi and were gratefully accepted by the people who are in such need of assistance. Thank you for supporting this project. The generosity of an anonymous donor who left an envelope on Mrs Engelbrecht’s desk to assist the school with helping children in need is just a reminder of how loving and caring our parents are. We never take this kindness for granted!
