WATERKLOOF PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 14 – 2014

Thank You

25 August 2014

Mrs Linda Williams

A HUGE thank you to the staff, parents and children of WPS for the wonderful way in which I was spoilt at the end of Term 2. With the monetary gift I received I bought a leather recliner chair so that I can indulge in my passion for reading. The flowers, gifts, Grade 7 trees and pots, notes and hugs meant so much to me and I will miss you all.

Recycling Invitation

Mrs L. Eagle

This is a warm invitation to all parents, especially those who have never recycled, to see what we do to create an awareness amongst learners and families about protecting our environment and developing a responsible attitude to waste management. When? Time? Where?

Wednesday 27 August 2014 Between 07:00 and 07:45 Enter the school grounds at the gate on the corner of of Julius Jeppe Street and Crown Avenue.

Bring a bag of recyclable waste and be rewarded with a cup of coffee!

Read-a-Thon

Mrs J. Shee

The WPS annual Read-a-thon will be held from 1 to 5 September 2014. Please see the sponsorship letter for details. We ask children and parents to give this year’s Read-a-Thon your full support as we would like to use the funds to upgrade the staffroom into a venue where teachers can prepare lessons and mark. The staffroom has not been upgraded in nearly two decades!

SPCA - Charity

Mrs A. Stobbart

A special reminder that the charity we support during Term 3 is the SPCA. We ask our children to bring dog food, cat food and blankets for the SPCA animals, to school. We would like to appeal to all our valued parents and learners to support this project. It would be appreciated if each class can donate as many of dog food, cat food, old or new blankets. All the food and blankets can be sent to the learners’ register teacher each morning. Mrs Korki Levanon from the SPCA will collect our donations at the end of the term. Each term SPCA collection tins are placed in each register class and we collected R1800.00 last term - well done. Let us try to better that amount this term. We are very grateful to our parents, learners and staff who open their hearts to such a needy cause. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Recycling - Bread Tags

Mrs L. Eagle

Our charity project for collecting bread tags to sponsor a wheelchair is going fantastically well! Thank you for the excellent response and keep those tags rolling in! We need 350kg and that will

be more than one FULL wheelie bin. It would be a great help if we could each find a partner outside of WPS to also collect with you, and so double our collection. Our other charity project of collecting all recyclable plastics marked with a recycling triangle with a 6 is going slowly, but there is definite progress! Please keep your eyes open for these items. Examples of these items are Nutriday yoghurt containers, all sizes, Bic pen shafts, disposable cutlery and disposable take-away cup lids. Please place these in separate containers so that they reach the correct bins. The funds from this project are going to the provision of hard, lap-sized desk tops for children who learn under a tree - how super to think that we can help in such a practical way!

Annual Mathematics Challenge - 2014

Mrs J. Hussey

Congratulations to Tapuwa Makombe in Grade 3 who was the winner of all the Grade 3 learners who took part in the Annual Mathematics Challenge run by the Education Department. We are very proud of you, Tapuwa!
