WATERKLOOF PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 10 – 2015

18 May 2015

From the Headmaster’s Desk Late coming and children not fetched after school Thank you to the vast majority of our parents for the tremendous support given to the school regarding getting your children to school on time and fetching them timeously. There are a small number of children still arriving late in the mornings. Excuses given include being stuck in traffic. I urge parents to plan accordingly and leave home slightly earlier. Names of habitually late offenders will be forwarded to the Gauteng Dept. of Education. A larger number of children are left at school unattended in the afternoons and in some cases, the evenings. These children are hungry, tired and have not had the opportunity to complete homework. Parents, this procedure might benefit your pocket as you did not enrol your child in an Aftercare Centre, but you are putting severe strain on your child by not making responsible arrangements with one of the aftercare centres in close proximity to our school. We have published the official opening and closing time of this institution and the onus is now on you, as a parent, to show the necessary care and not leave your child unattended on the pavement. According to the Child Protection Act, Act no. 38 of 2005, Sec 1 this could constitute ‘neglect’. Should this continue you are exposing yourself to the envolvement of The South African Child Protection Services. Children are to be fetched directly after school or after their extra-mural activities. The official opening/closing times at Waterkloof Primary School is: Open Closing

Unacceptable Language We have had numerous reports from staff, parents and children alike, of our children using inappropriate language. We have an ongoing campaign to stop this unacceptable behaviour. Parents, please monitor your children re social media, and the company they keep. It is a very true saying that what comes out of the mouth often indicates what is dwelling in the mind and heart. Please support us in this campaign to stamp out this scourge that is creeping into our school community.
