Hi guys! I hope you’re all had a great February! Thank you to everyone who came to our elections and helped choose the next cabinet that will lead our club into the next service year! I have no doubts that they’ll go above and beyond what we accomplished this year. As the service year comes to a close, I would just like to say that I am really thankful for all of you who attend our events, actively participate our committees, and of course, read the Locksmith ;) I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Key Club grow so much over the past couple of years and there are no doubts that it’s thanks to all of you! In other news, our club will be going to LTC soon and hopefully come back with awards to celebrate our hard work over the last year together. We’re also considering getting windbreakers/hoodies, so be on the lookout for news regarding that!

Wow, the service year is almost ending and I just want to take a second and tell you guys that I AM SUPER DUPER PROUD OF YOU GUYSSS for everything you guys did this service year. From waking up at 4am to go volunteering to getting home at midnight from volunteering and everything in between, you guys truly put dedicate so much of your time for this club and we cannot thank you enough! Also, I want to give a shoutout to everyone who applied for a Key Club award so my DKC Award Guide didn’t go to waste. I wish you all the best of luck. If you did apply for an award, please fill out the form is our latest email if you haven’t already so we know who applied! Our New Projects Committee has been working hard to put together events for the last few months of the service year so be sure to attend them! Hours are pretty up to date except for a few things that I will be updating very soon and if you have any questions about service hours, feel free to message me or honestly, if you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to hit me up :) Happy Key Clubbing!

International Everybody Deserves Water!!! Join the Thirst Project 1. Thirsty 30 is a 30-day fundraising challenge for clean water, and hundreds of Key Clubs around the country still are participating. The only way to avoid Thirsty 30 FOMO is to visit here for more info on how to join the fun. 2. Go digital. Create an online campaign page and do something epic for the water crisis. We have seen Key Clubbers swim around the Statue of Liberty, run a half marathon or get pied in the face for clean water. Plan Safe something crazy and create your campaign page here

CUPID CHASE
By Maya Martinez The Cupid’s Chase Project was a running event to raise funds for and support those with disabilities. As volunteers, we helped set up the tents, hand out sweaters/hats, and directed runners to the tents. After the race started, we cheered on the runners. At the very end, we also took individual pictures of runners crossing the finish line and we helped hand out participation medals.I personally really liked the event, because of how kind the event managers were. They were interested in communicating with volunteers better and were, in general, really kind-hearted people.

LUNAR NEW YEAR PARADE
By Jessica Jiang The Lunar Park Parade is suppose to start at 10, but all 60 of us, stood there for 3 hours doing nothing, which is actually pretty nice since it meant that I got to talk to friends that I haven’t seen at Key Club events in a long time. By 12, I couldn’t feel my toes: both from standing too long and from the cold. It was just really cold: really, really cold. But the highlight of the event was when they brought everyone hot milk tea and bread, which was nice of them. But the most fun was when we started walking. We were wearing vests that they gave us and holding blue and red balloons, but it wasn’t much compared to the other things in the parade like the dragons and the dancing. But everyone still cheered for us and yelled “kongsi fa cai,”. Being in the parade also meant that we got front row seats; I got to see up close everything that the parade had to offer. It was way too cold for the event to be fun, but it was an experience worth having.
Bit Awards By Jenna Foo When I arrived at the Bit Awards location, it was somewhat chaotic as there were still last-minute preparations going on to get ready for the awards show that would start in a few hours. While some volunteers helped prepare the VIP gift bags and others cut up coupons and vouchers for the various game booths set up, Freya and I were given the really big responsibility of checking people in. Not only did we have to make sure that their name was listed on a spreadsheet, we had to note what type of guest they were, whether or not they were invited to the award show’s after party, and if they were to receive VIP bags. Needless to say, it was very hectic and stressful, but in the end, it was fun to do alongside Freya and other Key Clubbers. Everything ran successfully and it was a very unique event to volunteer at. The Bit Awards recognizes game developers and designers, whose efforts are not highlighted often in the media. It was very cool to be part of such an important event and to have the ability to directly make sure that it ran smoothly. It also taught me a lot about my own capabilities as it required a lot of interacting with attendees and making sure that the other volunteers were doing their jobs. The only complaint I have is that the organizers did not prep us on what we had to do and left us with a person who was more clueless than we were. (She also snuck away to watch the show and left the volunteers outside instead of doing her job) I think the event could have ran much more efficiently had they spent some time to talk to the volunteers, although they probably had a lot on their plate that night. But overall, it was a nice event!
Member of the Month
Ashley Tian My first ever Key Club experience took place on June 30th at Water Wars. I was dragged along by my friend, Sabrina Chen, and her older sister who insisted on introducing us to every single one of her friends. Though I had only stayed for an hour or so, I distinctly remember how utterly awed I felt that such a large group of people had gathered for an event when the sun was literally burning us alive. It was this very event where I met Freya, who Amit had described as, “our most dedicated freshman.” Though we talked very briefly as I signed up for Key Club, these words became engraved into my brain and has had a lasting impact on me which continues even now, several months later. Despite being only a freshman, I feel that I have already found my “niche” in high school, this being Key Club. Through this organization, I have met some of the most passionate and dedicated individuals who not only inspire me everyday, but have also supported me every step of the way in my journey of growth. In comparison to the person I was at the beginning of the school year, I have changed substantially and for the better. I am now more confident in myself and have acquired leadership skills through roles such as project captain and meetup leader. I hope that with each passing service year, I will be able to continue meeting new people who I can potentially even call my friends. Joining Key Club has been one of the best decisions I have ever made and I plan to become even more active in the coming years. With that said, Stuyvesant Key Club>>basically anything else and come support our fundraisers!
