KEYI GUO 9 Hey Hey Key Clubbers!

I cannot believe the summer is basically over! Whether it be picnicking under the stars to crying on that one upside down ride at Luna Park because I thought I was going to die, these past two months have definitely been one to remember Last week, I was at an entrepreneurship convention in North Carolina and if I took away anything, it was that life is short and we have to make the most of it So with the two weeks of summer break left apply for that position you ’ ve been wanting, splurge a little on that new restaurant you wanted to try, ask that person out :)

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! The past few weeks have gone by so fast. I can’t believe we ’ re returning to school in less than a month! I am not ready to be a senior.

This summer, I’ve been balancing college applications and my internship, and it’s been stressful, to say the least Regardless, I’m glad I’ve been able to catch up on some much needed sleep and relaxation.

KEYI GUO 9 Hey friends,

WOOO SUMMER! Unfortunately, vacation is almost coming to a close but I hope everyone enjoyed their time off! The past two months have been a blast for me: going to lots of places, spending time with friends and family, and making tons of precious memories Really wanted to just enjoy myself before starting the dreadful senior year and stressful college applications I am so glad that Stuyvesant Key Club kept up with the hard work even throughout the summer. We managed to continue hosting dozens of successful volunteering events and fundraisers all throughout the city despite half the club being on vacation. I am truly proud of everyone ’ s dedication coming out every weekend to volunteer in this blazing hot weather. After four quick months, we are already over three quarters done with our service hour goal and I have confidence that we will easily exceed it Stuyvesant Key Club is growing larger than ever and words cannot describe how strong of a family we have built in the past months.

I'm Raymond, your treasurer and I've mostly been working and studying for the August SAT. Recently I went to Bloom Again Brooklyn on August 25, and I highly recommend it for anyone The staff we worked with were incredibly friendly, you got to help prep and make arrangements with beautiful flowers, keep some leftover flowers for yourself, and most importantly know that they were going to elders and hardworking medical staff I couldn't be more grateful for all the hard work our volunteers do for Key Club, and hope you guys keep it up! P.S. Make sure to sign up for our roller skating fundraiser with Cardozo on September 10! Yours in care and service, Raymond Zou Stuyvesant Key Club Treasurer Cabrisuns 2022 2023

For me, it feels like the summer went by way too fast, and I’m wholly unprepared for college applications and just senior year in general However, one thing that I’m definitely looking forward to is Stuy Key Club during the beginning of the school year! We have a lot of upcoming projects and events planned for our members, and are looking to welcome new members into our community! It’s going to be great seeing old and new faces. Additionally, as you might know, we ’ ve held our 22 23 Merch Logo Contest recently, so I’m also really looking forward to our new Stuy Key Club logo and new merch. Everyone did incredible with their design submissions; we were all blown away by the artistic and creative talent in our community! Something new that the Visual Media Committee has been up to this summer is making event posters at the beginning of each month, which are posted on Instagram and in our President Izzy’s amazing newsletters! Furthermore, our Visual Media Directors,Tammy Zhao and Nakib Abedin, have been doing fabulous work not only with the Instagram posters, but also with our 2022 2023 Stuy KC Promo Vid, so make sure to check out their hard work here! :) I would also like to give a huge shout out to everyone who has been attending volunteer events and fundraisers during the summer and keeping up with us on social media! It’s great that you all are spreading the hard work and goodwill of Key Club even when school’s out. :) Yours in care and service, Evelyn Chen Stuyvesant Key Club Webmaster Cabrisuns 2022 2023

For this annual two day event, the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival hosted volunteers from all across New York City. At 6AM, I set out to pick up the hoard of Key Clubbies from a random corner in Brooklyn. The crowd included Senior Caucus President, Andrey Sokolov, and crowd favorite, John Fang. We drove into Flushing as the sun was rising and even stopped for a Starbucks break along the way. The 12 hour volunteer shift was full of hard labor, free food, and really really rich companies. In the beginning, the Stuy Key Club crowd was responsible for checking in and registering teams. Somewhere along the way, the waterside crowd kidnapped me and I spent the rest of my day with Bronx Science Key Club docking and launching the boats. This event is easily one of my favorites for this service year and I cannot wait to go back again next year.

On the bright morning of June 26th, Key Clubbies visited the bottom of Brooklyn to help NYCRUNs staff at their Coney Island 5k. A one mile trek down the broadwalk started off the morning, where folded tables and a man named “Avery” awaited them. There, the Key Clubbies began setting up the three tier water station while fending off thirsty bystanders. As they awaited the race, DeAngelo Poon took a splendid nap on the wooden bench just situated under the blistering sun and Danny Xiong was banished to the other volunteer station. During the 5k race, the Key Clubbies maintained the water station and when there were no more cups, they resorted to dumping fresh water on the heads of the sweaty runners. After the race concluded and the once-water station was returned to its original state of a sandy boardwalk, all the Key Clubbies reunited to fine dine at the local IHOP.

Starting at an early 7AM, the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival kicked off its second day (7/31) of its annual race. After checking in, we were assigned to do check-ins and registration. While it was tricky to get the hang of it at first, my group soon became accustomed to everything and performed in an efficient streamline. To bring a smile to some faces, we placed a green stuffed triceratops named Truck at the edge of our table, so people could tap it for good luck. He did, indeed, get a lot of taps and smiles that day from competitors and strangers. After a wave of check-ins had passed, we watched the racers harmoniously sway their oars back and forth to the rhythm of the drum. This event inspired me to join dragon boat racing in the future. I can wholeheartedly say that this has become my favorite Key Club event, and I would recommend everyone to volunteer next year. We got free food, an unforgettable experience, and met new people. What more could you ask for?

Photographer of ways loved photography, but I never foun xcited about taking photos of people. Hey folks, my name is DeAngelo Poon and I’m a current sophomore. I joined key club at the very beginning of freshman year when it was still remote as a member of the fundraising committee. Before I joined key club, I found it quite intimidating, and I found it scary at first. However, after spending some time with my fellow key club members and getting to know how key club works, I found it not scary at all. Now I find it a close knit community of dedicated people who spend a lot of their time out of the day helping the community and the people who live in it. My favorite key club memory is probably the first in person volunteering event I ever attended. It was the 49th Annual Dragon Boat Festival (2021) in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Although the park was quite far (I live in South Brooklyn), I woke up especially early to go to the event. There, I met many key club members in person, such as the current president of the time and my fundraising directors. I carried tables (yay fun!) and got my first shirt from a volunteering event, kicking off an ever increasing collection. To end off, I encourage everyone to pursue more in key club, whether that is applying for a committee or running for higher positions. Although you may not succeed (like me), you will gain valuable experience that may help you become a better person. After all, key club wouldn’t thrive without the ordinary members of key club who show up and make a difference. As one of my role models once said: Make Key Club great again”

DeAngelo Poon

To be honest, my introduction to Key Club was quite strange. I was just chilling on a bench at school when a kid popped out of nowhere. “Hey! You! Townsend Harris Fundraiser! Come!” Turns out that kid was David Chen, the New York District Key Club Webmaster. I was super confused, why was this kid promoting another school’s fundraiser?? But from that day forward, Key Club became a pretty big part of my high school life. In fact, I even joined one of their four selective committees, the best of the four, Visual Media. (Tammy Zhao best director). Key Club events were definitely fun, there’s always something new every weekend. I would be sorting flowers one day, then filling water cups the next. However, going to these events was not easy for me. Here’s the thing, I live really far from school. LIKE REALLY FAR. (Around 120? 130? miles for a round trip to stuy). No offense but the New Projects Committee really sucks for constantly organizing events that start at 6 am. So I am waking up at 3 or 4 am and traveling 2 hours to get to these events. It sucks. I also tend to arrive at events 2 or 3 hours early because I live so far away and didn’t want to be late. Summer with Key Club was a blast but I’m pretty sure I spent more hours on the LIRR than volunteering. BTW, my favorite key club memory was when I got ice cream one time and my best friend, Damian tried coercing me to give it to him.
