Letter from the President Reach out to Jenna Foo: jfoo@stuy.edu Hey guys! I’m Jenna and I’m really excited to be your president for the 2018-2019 service year! If you don’t know me too well, I was StuyKC’s secretary during my sophomore-junior year, and I’ll be a senior next year, which is a pretty scary thing. Even though I’m basically gonna be a zombie next year, I know I can always rely on Key Club to help me get through my stress. Everyone who joins Key Club comes to realize that we’re a one of a kind family and one that most people don’t get to experience in high school, or maybe even in their life (even though it’s cheesy, it’s true!). One of my goals for next year is to better inform Stuyvesant students about what Key Club is and what we stand for. A lot of Stuy kids aren’t able to look past our dues, even though dues aren’t required to join Key Club. 2
When I took on a bigger leadership role in Key Club, a bunch of new things about Key Club were thrown at me at once. Even though it was confusing, it made me realize how special and established Key Club is as an international organization. Next year, I would really like to share Key Club’s philosophy with as many people as I possibly can and make Stuy kids more knowledgeable on how Key Club is run :) Another goal I have is to help StuyKC become more involved in divisional events. As of now, we aren’t allowed to hold divisionals (which are meetings where a bunch of Key Clubs attend) or larger events like Fall Rally or DTC (our Divisional Training Conference). Hopefully, if we’re able to convince the administration to let us host these events, Stuy Key Clubbers will be more open to attending these events and meeting more Key Clubbers from schools all over the division! Finally, I hope that StuyKC will be able to accomplish all the great things that it’s capable of!! I know it will be possible because of the dedication and hard work of both our cabinet and our committee directors! Letter from the Vice Prez Reach out to Penny Wang: pwang00@stuy.edu Hey guys! We just ended school but that doesn't mean Key Club ever stops! Even though we are still working things out in our committees, we still managed to get many things done. Our Art committee has finally updated the beautiful Hawaiian themed bulletin board in our school and our Fundraising committee just helped Freya, our treasurer, run a successful fundraiser. In addition, the summer grind never stops for our New Projects committee, which never stops looking for new events, and for our Public Relations Committee, who will advertise these events. I hope our committee directors and members will work throughout the summer to help make Key Club run! Sign up for events and stay tuned!

Letter from the Secretary Reach out to Jason Xiong: jxiong10@stuy.edu Hey Key Clubbers! The school year is finally over and summer is here! The past service year has been absolutely amazing with volunteers helping at over 150 service projects and completing over 7,300 hours of service. Let's make the next one even better! With the start of July, this means that we will be moving onto a new spreadsheet, which will be released very soon. All of you with service hours will be getting a service letter soon for your hard work. In the meantime, don't stop volunteering and have a great summer! 5

Heeeeey everyone!! School's finally over! You know what that means: more events and especially more fundraisers!! The month of June was stressful but also one that was very productive! We hosted our annual Dave & Buster's Fundraiser! We bought more than $4000 worth of cards and we managed to sell a majority of them! Just from one fundraiser, we were able to raise over $2200. All the profit that we made will be donated to our district endorsed project, One Tree Planted, which is an organization that works with amazing reforestation organizations around the world that need financial support to help them get more trees in the ground. . We are starting off the service year strong and after all the work I put into the fundraiser, it's very motivating! :) I'm very thankful for everyone and I hope y'all will show up to our Governors Island picnic! We will have lots of good food and a super fun scavenger hunt! I will continue to do my best for the fundraisers and staying active by going to events! If you're a new Key Clubber, feel free to speak to me! I don't bite .3. 6

hope to renovate certain aspects of it to make it as purposeful as possible. As you may have noticed, we've shifted towards using HTML emails, which I hope has made reading our emails more convenient and enjoyable

With the help of Irene, I've been updating the front page and google calendar with upcoming events. I've also made other tweaks to the website such as adding a fundraising and Instagram tab. Have a great summer!!!!

Hey guys! WOWZA, as you can see, we've made DRASTIC changes to the locksmith (hopefully improvements only hehe), I hope you guys enjoy flipping through it! I'll like to say a huge thanks to everyone that helped contribute to this article (and sorry to everyone, including the expired members, I constantly pestered for info/articles...). Dave and Busters Fundraiser Lee a i Son y b to Pho
The Dave and Busters Fundraiser was held on June 27th. Power cards were sold for $13/$25 and thanks to everyone that showed up, we were able to raise $2,054 even after buying $4,520 worth of cards! Huge thanks to all the Key Clubbers who showed up, especially those from other schools! We hope everyone enjoyed themselves at the fundraiser, and we can't wait for the next! All the money we raised at the Dave and Busters Fundraiser will be used to fund the One Tree Planted district project, an amazing nonprofit charity project that aims to help restore forests across the world by their mission of planting one tree for every dollar they raise. 10

Upcoming Fundraiser! What is the Governors Picnic and what activities will be held there? Stuyvesant Key Club will be hosting a Governors Picnic on July 29. It's a picnic fundraiser on Governors Island and a ton of fun activities will be featured. This includes a scavenger hunt, as well as a bunch of sports- like badminton and volleyball. Food will be provided to all the attendees, as well as a good time :)) What will the money raised be used for? Proceeds will be donated to our governors project Comfort Cases, which is an organization that creates specialty cases for children in the foster system, so they don't need to carry their belongings in trash bags. All the proceeds will be donated :)

District The New York district board has decided the LTC theme to be "Aloha to service." This year's LTC the Desmond Hotel from March 29thMarch 31st. Hope to see you there! Furthermore, the service goal has been set to 130,000 service hours and the fundraising goal at $155,00.

NY Night Nation Run
The Night Nation Run is the World’s 1st Running Music Festival: an ultimate blend of a Music Festival and a Fun Run. Experience a music-filled course with Live DJs, Light Shows, Bubble Zones, Neon and Black Lights. Cross the finish line into an Epic Main Stage After Party featuring Top Headliner DJs. Volunteers were in charge of the water station.

MG Tristate Walk MG is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disorder that is characterized by fluctuating weakness of muscle groups. Â Volunteers helped out at the MG walk, which aims to raise funds and awareness towards this order. Volunteer checked in walkers, acting as route marshals, face painting and managing food and beverages.

Twist & Sprout is a family friendly event about healthy living. Volunteers helped out with crowd control, assisting vendors, welcoming and directing guests, and helping out wherever else needed.

Egg Rolls, Egg Creams, and Empanadas
Article by Michael Hu The Egg Rolls, Egg Creams, and Empanadas Festival at Elkins Street was back for its 18th year on Sunday, June 17th. Hosted by the Museum at Eldridge Street, the fest celebrates the cultural diversity of the area, specifically the Jewish, Chinese, and Puerto Rican influences. When we got to the museum in the morning, we were assigned different tasks for the day. Some people wanted to prepare food, while other wanted to help with the event coordination. I was assigned with helping out the stage/sound director. After a brief breakfast downstairs, the volunteers headed up to their respective areas. I went to the stage by the intersection of Division Street and Eldridge Street, where various groups will be performing that day. The show opened at noon with a performance from the Klezmer band Litvakus, and Zisl Slepovitch, the dance instructor. The jolly Jewish music was a great start to the festival. The next presentation was Chinese folk music, by the East River Ensemble of the Meniscus Society for the Arts, with stunning solo performances that amazed the crowd. The band Los Pleneros De La 21 followed.Â

Despite the boiling heat from the sun, many people picked the courage to join the dancer on the dance floor. Everyone—from the Chinese elders to the Russians children—swayed and rocked their bodies to the rhythm of traditional Afro-Puerto Rican beats. Professional opera performers came next, reenacting some of the most famous historic legends in China. Finally, the festival ended with another performance by Litvakus. Except for this time, people actually came up to learn the dance without much persuasion. They danced in circles, marched in lines, and even constructed “human bridges”. People of different ethnicities mixed and held hands as if they were from one and the same background. By this time, the crowd got so big that I had trouble seeing the performance, even though I was right next to the stage tent! It was a wonderful feeling to be a part of this magical afternoon.

Brain Tumor Walk ARTICLE BY PENNY WANG To be honest, I didn't know what I was thinking when I signed up for this event. It started at 7 AM in the morning and it was at Randall's Island, a place in the middle of nowhere. However, on this cloudy and chilly day, I managed to pull myself out of bed at 5 AM and head out. First off, I, along with other volunteers, helped zip tie banners to tents. Then, we taped garbage bags to tent poles and put tablecloths on tables. This was the setup portion of the walk and it wasn't very exciting. Later on, we were assigned to be walk marshals. Groups of two people were assigned to different parts of the walk route to direct walkers. As I was heading to my spot, I noticed blackberry trees along the way. This was probably the most exciting part of the event because I thought that was very cool. After a few hours of standing in a spot and directing walkers, we all headed back to the tent area. Along the way, I picked up some blackberries and Ryan even ate half of one.

Even though this event wasn't exactly fun, I saw how people's faces lit up as they saw signs honoring victims that they knew. I understood how meaningful volunteering was, no matter how boring or seemingly pointless some tasks were. I was also able to hang out with my fellow Key Clubbers and get to know them better. Seeing them being so energetic and taking videos for the Web and Video committee, even though it was 7 AM and they were tired, made me glad to have such amazing Key Clubbers in our club.

NYSOM SUPERHERO SCI FI FESTIVAL Volunteers helped out at NYSoM's superhero festival. At the event, there were activities/prizes and games relating to superheroes. Brooklyn Takes Steps is an event that encourages runners to donate to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, an organization aimed at finding a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Our volunteers assisted at tents, helped with food and t-shirt distribution, and assisted with escorting.

Member of the Month Lucy Wu Most Project Captain Award
Hey, my name’s Lucy Wu for those that don’t know me. When I got an email to write a paragraph about what Key Club meant to me, I thought: What am I supposed to say? I just joined like three months ago; however, it was easy to say that it was one of the best decisions I’ve made at Stuy regarding extracurriculars. When I first started, I really only cared about hours. I didn’t know anyone very well and didn’t enjoy volunteering because of it. Next thing you know, I’m going to every event and trying to socialize as much as possible. In the short span of a few months, I was able to meet so many amazing individuals and became really dedicated. (If coming home at 3 A.M. doesn’t prove that then I don’t know what will.) Key Club to me means hanging out with friends and meeting new members. In addition, it means getting out of my comfort zone because I used to hate talking to people I didn’t know. I’m glad I decided to join this club, and I appreciate the people I’ve met along the way as well as the countless experiences I’ve shared with them.
