SHOPPING

a shopper’s dream

Everybody loves shopping while on vacation, especially when you’re browsing through an extensive collection of beach inspired gifts. From specialty retail shops to the biggest bargains at the bustling flea and farmers market. We know you will find surprises each time you step inside one of our unique coastal shops in Daytona Beach. Are you ready to shop for the latest in swim fashions and resort wear? You’re in luck, that’s our specialty. Our stores feature fashions that are softly comfortable and all about ease. Summer’s subtle palate of colors is always flattering and enhances your tan! We have a mall, Tanger Outlets Daytona Beach, where you can shop in over 75 brand name and designer outlet stores. For incredible savings, this is a “must do”’ for your shopping experience. There’s a Old Time Pottery on International Speedway Blvd., with

ever-changing selections of unique items and gifts. Also visit PANDORA Store at the Volusia Mall. This is the the place to find the newest styles and collections of charms, rings, bracelets and more. If you want to get lost for a few hours, shopping the huge selections in any one of these places is where you’ll want to go. We love to stroll beneath the palm trees in the Riverfront Shops, of historic downtown Daytona Beach. Decorative wrought-iron archways are in keeping with the area’s art deco and neoclassical architecture. Downtown shops offer antiques, collectibles, home furnishings, art galleries, jewelry, clothiers and cafes where locals and visitors congregate. There’s a treasure trove of consignment shops and beach boutiques to explore too. For some surprises and unexpected bargains, put on your best flip-flops and check them out!

28 SHOPPING | Ormond Beach south to New Smyrna Beach

www.SEE-DaytonaBeach.com | SHOPPING 29

Bicycling on hard-packed sand at low tide is a great way to burn those calories you indulged in last night. There are 23 miles of gorgeous beach in the Daytona Beach area. Ride as far as you like, and when you get hot, stop and take a dip in the surf! Ormond Beach Scenic Loop The Ormond Beach Scenic Loop Trail is a 30+ mile route on some of Volusia’s most picturesque roads. Always wear a helmet and bring water. This ride is for experienced bicyclists used to sharing the road with cars. You’ll see historic neighborhoods, salt marshes and the ocean. Check out our map on page 26 for the entire route. Peddle to Tomoka Park from Granada Bridge We picked a short segment of the loop with old trees that form a tunnel of cool air and shade. The scenic 5-mile ride to Tomoka State Park starts at the Bailey Riverbridge park on the northwest side of Granada Boulevard (SR 40) Bridge. Turn north on N. Beach Street.

The small, boathouse sitting on pilings on your right is the 1910 Ormond Yacht Club. Tree branches make lacy patterns on the pavement as you cruise past homes with large yards and expansive oak trees. Just past Inglesa Avenue, turn right at the Tomoka State Park sign to the park entrance. This natural environment of rivers and maritime forest is good for body and spirit. Visit the Tomoka Outpost for refreshments. Admission: $2 per bicycle. Ponce Inlet Trail Ponce Preserve, a 41-acre park with free parking, is a good starting point for this 8-foot wide, paved trail. Feel the ocean breeze as you ride your bicycle 3 miles south along A1A to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and Marine Science Center. The path parallels dunes and hammocks. Shade is limited so ride early. Check out the Green Mound State Archaeological Site, an ancient Indian shell midden in the center of the Preserve. The bird watching is excellent from the Atlantic to the Halifax River.

DINING

a world of dining choices

When you are on vacation, deciding where you eat is as important as what you choose from the menu. It’s no surprise that we have a multitude of restaurants to please taste buds of every description. After all, our visitors come from all over the world. A delicious seafood dinner in an eye-pleasing restaurant with just the right ambiance is universally popular with families on vacation. From a riverside deck with umbrella owners, tables like Sunsetters off Main Street with menu, live music daily, fresh seafood and a full liquor bar. Or Ronin Sushi and Sake Bar, downtown Daytona Beach, featuring a traditional Japanese Sushi experience from their upstairs location. Opening late this Summer ’17. Fresh Florida seafood, prepared as you like it, broiled, steamed, blackened or sautéed, is as delicious as it is healthy. Our favorites include scrumptious selections caught in Florida

waters. Also visit Rose Villa Southern Table & Bar, in Ormond open for lunch & dinner 7 days a week. Beach, now Need Catering? Hog Heaven on A1A next to the Ocean catering Center has you covered, large or small. Their service will delight any family or group gathering. Call them and they will “Put Some South In Your Mouth!” Whether you are in the mood for a juicy broiled burger, Italian pasta or a slow-cooked, country barbeque sandwich, our restaurants can give your taste buds just what you desire. Many of them offer family-pleasing selections and prices that please your wallet. Be sure to check out our dining guide on page 40 and the valuable coupons in the back of this book. SEE Coloring Page Turtle Nesting Season Begins May 1st through October 1st

FUN FACTS:

The yellow markers and netting mean a sea turtle has deposited her eggs in the sand! Do not disturb the protective screening.

Don’t disturb a turtle that is crawling on the beach or laying eggs. Avoid shining lights on the beach at night as this may frighten nesting females and confuse the hatchlings’ ability to find the sea. If you see a distressed turtle, call the Volusia County Beach Patrol at 386-239-6484 or 386-756-7491

42 FUN PAGE | Ormond Beach south to New Smyrna Beach

Loggerheads, Green turtles and huge Leatherbacks nest on Florida shores. Turtles don’t reach maturity for 15 to 50 years. Scientists believe that only 1 in 1,000 to 10,000 babies will survive to adulthood.
