Durante largo tiempo, los hombres no pensaron en infringir esta orden de los dioses. Pero el espíritu maligno, condenado a vivir en la oscuridad, no soportaba ver a los hombres vivir tranquilamente en el valle. Se las ingenió para dividir a los hombres sembrando la discordia y les pidió probar su coraje yendo a buscar el Fuego Sagrado a la cima de las montañas.
For a long time, men never thought of violating the will of the gods. But an evil spirit, condemned to live in darkness, couldn’t see the men living peacefully in the Valley. He managed to divide men sowing seeds of division and asking them to prove their courage going to face the Sacred Fire.
uenta la leyenda, que el lago Titicaca era un valle fértil poblado de hombres que vivían felices y tranquilos. No les faltaba nada: la tierra era rica y les daba todo lo que necesitaban. Allí no se conocía ni la muerte, ni el odio, ni la ambición. Los Apus, dioses de las montañas, brindaban su protección a los seres humanos. Solo les dieron una condición: nadie debía subir a la cima de las montañas donde ardía el Fuego Sagrado.
Un día, al alba, los hombres comenzaron a escalar hacia la cima, pero a medio camino fueron sorprendidos por los Apus. Miles de pumas salieron de las cavernas y los devoraron mientras suplicaban al espíritu maligno por ayuda. Sin embargo, éste permaneció insensible ante las súplicas. Viendo eso, Inti, el dios del Sol, se puso a llorar. Sus lágrimas eran tan abundantes que en cuarenta días inundaron el valle. Solamente un hombre y una mujer se salvaron sobre una barca de junco. Cuando el sol brilló de nuevo, el hombre y la mujer no creían lo que veían: bajo el cielo azul y puro, había un lago inmenso. En medio de esas aguas flotaban los pumas que estaban ahogados y transformados en estatuas de piedra. Llamaron entonces al lago Titicaca, el lago de los pumas de piedra.

he Legend says, that Lake Titicaca was a fertile valley populated by men who lived happy and in peace. They did not lack anything: the land was rich in harvest and gave them everything they needed to live. Death, hatred, nor ambition were known. The Apus, gods of the mountains, gave protection to human beings. The gods only gave them one condition: no one should climb to the summit of the mountains where the Sacred Fire burned.
One day, at dawn, men began to climb to the top, but half way they were surprised by the Apus. Thousands of pumas or mountain lions came out of caves and devoured them while pleading mercy to the evil spirit. But he remained insensitive. Upon this, Inti, the Sun God, began to cry. His tears were so abundant that in forty days they flooded the Valley. Only a man and a woman were saved on a boat made of reeds. When the sun shone again, the man and the woman did not believe what they saw: under the blue and pure sky, a huge Lake was among them. In the midst of these waters floated the pumas that were transformed into stone and drowned. Then they named it Lake Titicaca, the Lake of Stone Pumas.

El Clarín cajamarquino, también llamado Shukcha kashamarkinu, es un instrumento de viento. The Cajamarca’s Clarion, also called Shukcha kashamarkinu, is a wind instrument, similar to a classic Clarion. Se toca en ceremonias religiosas, en las mingas (trabajo comunitario), danzas de los chunchos, trillas, navidades, misas y procesiones. Según se acostumbra, el clarinero debe tener la dentadura completa, de lo contrario el sonido podría escapar por un espacio libre. Además, necesita una preparación previa cuando tiene que tocar por mucho tiempo, se pone rocoto en los labios para que estén más duros, y luego vierte al menos medio capri (botella de vidrio) de chicha o cañazo dentro del carrizo del clarín, para que no se ponga duro y no sufra al tocar. De acuerdo a la emotividad de quien lo toca, es posible identificar dos sonidos del clarín. En Chetilla, las notas son más melódicas y, en el Porcón y en el valle de Cajamarca, más alegres. Se pueden encontrar dos clases de clarines: “roncador” o “walaychu”, y, “Shukcha” o “clarín rambino”, ambos emiten sonidos diferentes el primero agudo y el segundo grave. A pesar de todas sus singularidades, en el Perú, es Cajamarca la única ciudad que lo posee. Convirtiéndolo en un instrumento símbolo invalorable de nuestra cultura. Por ello, en 2008 se le declaró PATRIMONIO CULTURAL DE LA NACIÓN.
It is played in religious ceremonies, in the Mingas (community work), in Chunchos and Trillas dances, in Christmas, masses and religious processions.
As per the tradition, the Clarion player or clarinero must have a complete denture, otherwise the sounds could escape through the free spaces. Two types of Clarions can be identified: the “roncador” or “”walaychu”, y, “Shukcha” or “Rambino Clarion”, both produce different sounds, one is sharp and the other is deep. Despite all of their singularities, in Peru, Cajamarca is the only city that has this instrument, making it an invaluable symbol of our culture. Therefore, in 2008, it was declared as a NATIONAL CULTURAL PATRIMONY.

A lo largo del recorrido se repite la vista de cráneos, fémures, tibias y peronés, debido a que son las partes más resistentes del cuerpo humano. Existen también pozos, cuya profundidad es de diez metros, que tienen como finalidad absorber las ondas sísmicas. En 1808 fue inaugurado el Cementerio General “Presbítero Matías Maestro”, sin embargo, por costumbre se realizaban todavía los entierros en las iglesias, por lo que, en el año de 1821, don José de San Martín prohibió el uso de las catacumbas mediante un decreto, siendo clausuradas posteriormente.

nder the San Francisco Church plaza, inside Lima capital Historic Center, the oldest cemetery of Lima is located, where the remains of members of confraternities and religious brotherhoods were buried from year 1540 until 1821. This space was used until 1810 as cemetery and it is estimated that, at that time, it should have held up to 25,000 corpses. Today a number of bones sorted by types can be appreciated in many chambers, and were placed sometimes, in mysterious sequences. The total area of these crypts has not been determined yet and it is believed that there is possible communication between these crypt galleries and the Government Palace and the Desamparados Train Station through old stone tunnels.

Hay dos formas de acceder a esta plataforma: la primera es descargando la aplicación vía Play Store o App Store desde un smartphone o Tablet, la segunda, es ingresando por su página web al link http://bibliotecadigital.bnp.gob. pe desde cualquier dispositivo conectado a internet. Una vez en la aplicación o página web, hay que registrarse y acceder al buscador de libros para seleccionar aquel título que se desee leer. El préstamo del libro dura 7 días bajo dos modalidades a elegir: descarga o lectura streaming en cualquier dispositivo, incluido el lector de libros Kindle Fire. La modalidad de descarga tiene un sistema de protección para evitar la piratería, opción que busca dar seguridad a las editoriales para que no tengan temor al compartir los libros.
How does it work? Paracas está a tres horas y media de Lima, puedes llegar en auto o en bus por la Panamericana Sur. Hay salidas todos los días y el precio depende del horario que elijas. Los buses llegan al centro del pueblo de Paracas, el Chaco. Desde ahí se puede tomar un taxi o caminar hacia el hotel/hospedaje elegido.
Hay opciones para todos: levantarse temprano y salir a correr por el malecón no tiene precio. Disfrutar de la bahía en bici también es una excelente opción, si no llevas la tuya, alquila una en el Chaco y pedalea hasta la Reserva (no olvides llevar agua y protector). Si eres de deportes de agua, ¡a madrugar! Paracas es conocido por su viento, y solo por las mañanas podrás practicar Paddle o Kayak. El Kitesurf es el deporte más conocido en Paracas, “surfeas” propulsado por una cometa de diferente tamaño según tu peso y nivel del viento. Paracas tiene un lugar mágico para amantes del Surf, se llama San Gallán. Es una isla a 1 hora en lancha rápida desde el centro de Paracas donde, además de encontrar tubos casi perfectos, podrás compartir esta experiencia rodeado de lobos de mar. Playas de la Reserva
Paracas is a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Lima, you can go by car or by bus along the South Pan-American Highway. Departures are programmed every day and the price depends on the schedule you choose. Buses arrive directly to the Paracas town, called El Chaco. From this point you can either walk or take a taxi to your chosen hotel or lodging. There are options for everyone: get up early and go running along the waterfront is priceless. Playas de la Reserva
Las playas más bonitas de Paracas están dentro de la Reserva. Para entrar necesitas carro y pagar un derecho de entrada de S/.10. En caso llegues en Bus, puedes encontrar operadores turísticos en el Chaco o coordinar con un taxi para que te lleve. Recomendamos: -La Mina y el Raspón: De las playas más bonitas de la reserva (el viento entra a la 1 pm y se puede volver incómodo). -Atenas: La playa para bucear y acampar por excelencia, además cuenta con el Restaurant El Griego donde comerás las mejores conchitas a la parmesana. -Laguna Grande: Se llama así porque te da la impresión de estar frente a una laguna. Esta es una de las playas más alejadas. Recuerda siempre llevar bolsas para traer todos tus desperdicios de vuelta. Deja siempre el lugar mejor de lo que lo encontraste.
Reserve beaches
The most beautiful beaches of Paracas are inside the reserve area. To access the beaches, you will need a vehicle and pay an entree right of S/ 10 (Ten Soles). If you arrive by Bus, you can find tour operators in El Chaco or coordinate with local taxis to take you to the reserve area beaches. We recommend: - La Mina and El Raspon Beaches: the most beautiful beaches of the reserve. -Atenas Beach: A snorkeling and camping beach par excellence, you will discover the El Griego Restaurant where you will eat the best typical parmesan cheese sea food /shells. -Laguna Grande Beach: It was named this way because it gives you the impression of being in front of a big lake. This is one of the most remote beaches. Remember to always take bags to bring back all consumer disposables. Let’s try to always leave everything in better conditions than we found it.

En el departamento de Apurímac, se encuentra ubicada la provincia Andahuaylas, cuna de la cultura Chanca, conocidos por haber sido grandes adversarios de los incas. Su nombre nace de la palabra quechua Antahuaylla, compuesta por la palabra Anta, celaje de cobre y Huaylla, pradera. Es decir: pradera de los celajes.
Andahuaylas province is located in the Department of Apurimac, the cradle of the Chanca Culture, known for being the major adversaries of the Incas. This name comes from the Quechua word Antahuaylla, composed by the word Anta, copper sky and Huaylla, Prairie. I.e.: Prairie of the skies.

a pronunciada pendiente nos deja sin aliento mientras la fría niebla abre paso a un paisaje prístino de bosques nubosos decorados con caprichosos musgos y líquenes en los Andes Tropicales al norte del Perú; entre los 1,500 y 3000 msnm. Nos internamos en el Área de Conservación Privada Comunal Hierba Buena-Allpayacu en la región Amazonas; donde la Comunidad de Beirut / Corosha pensando en el futuro de sus hijos ha destinado un área para la preservación de sus cuencas y bosques vírgenes garantizando agua limpia a sus habitantes y protegiendo además especies endémicas en peligro de extinción como el emblemático mono choro de cola amarilla, primate que solo habita en parches de bosques montanos en las regiones de Amazonas y San Martín y es considerado como una de las 25 especies de primates más amenazadas en el planeta. Excelente iniciativa a ser replicada en otras comunidades rurales. El mono choro de cola amarilla es el primate más grande del Perú. Presenta una banda de pelos amarillos en la parte ventral de la cola que caracteriza a la especie. Su pelaje cobrizo es lanudo y denso, adaptado a su húmedo hábitat. Los machos poseen un mechón genital de color amarillento. Conforman grupos que varían de 5 a 18 individuos de ambos sexos entre adultos, juveniles y madres con crías. Se alimenta de frutas, flores, hojas, líquenes, bromelias, bulbos e insectos. La tala indiscriminada de bosques primarios es su principal amenaza. Su hábitat ha sido en gran parte deforestado, dando como resultado un paisaje muy fragmentado. Sus poblaciones han disminuido drásticamente debido también a la caza furtiva por carne, pieles y al tráfico de sus crías como mascotas. Actualmente se encuentra como en “Peligro Crítico” de extinción en la lista roja de la Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza (IUCN).

he steep slope leaves us breathless as the cold mist opens the way to a pristine landscape of cloud forests decorated with capricious mosses and lichens in the Tropical Andes of northern Peru between 1,500 and 3,000 meters above sea level. We head deep into the Private Communal Conservation Area “Hierba Buena-Allpayacu” in the Amazonas Region; where the Beirut / Corosha community, thoughtful about the future of their children, has reserved an area for the preservation of untouched forests and basins, guaranteeing clean water to its inhabitants and in addition, protecting endemic species with risk of extinction like the emblematic yellow-tailed woolly monkey. Primate that only lives in small patches of montane forests in the regions of Amazonas and San Martin, and regarded as one of the 25 most endangered primate species in the planet. This excellent initiative is to be replicated in other rural communities. The yellow-tailed woolly monkey is the largest primate of Peru. It has a band of yellow hairs in the ventral part of its tail that characterizes this species. Its coppery coat is shaggy and dense, adapted to its humid habitat. Males have a yellowish genital lock. They form groups ranging from 5 to 18 individuals of both genders; adults, juveniles and females with their offspring. It feeds on fruits, flowers, leaves, lichens, bromeliads, bulbs and insects. The indiscriminate logging of primary forests is their main threat. Their habitat has been largely deforested, resulting in a highly fragmented landscape. Their populations have declined drastically due also to poaching for meat, pelts and illegal trafficking of young ones as pets. It is currently under a “Critically Endangered” of extinction in the red list of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

How to get there?
Puedes tomar transporte público hasta el parque Echenique, en Chosica, y luego coger colectivos a Matucana. Si deseas un viaje directo, puedes tomar un bus interprovincial en el terminal de Yerbateros o ir en auto particular.
You can take public transportation to the Echenique Park, in Chosica, and then take a private group taxi to Matucana. You can also take an Interprovincial Bus at the Yerbateros Land Terminal or go in a private vehicle.
Al llegar, tendrás como punto de partida la plazuela principal. Como el sol es tan imponente, imposible no antojarse de unos heladitos artesanales. Si de sabor se trata, la señora Diony te aliviará del calor y deleitará con sus exquisitos sabores.
Upon arrival, the main square will be your starting point. Because the Sun is so arresting, it will impossible not to be tempt to try the local artesian made ice-cream. When it comes to choosing flavors, the Señora Diony Ice-Cream Parlor will ease the heat delighting you with its exquisite flavors.
El primer lugar a conocer, será la catarata Challape, y su imponente puente. Imponente, pues tiene más de 30 metros de altura. Es de uso exclusivo del tren, sin embargo, podrás tomarte una foto junto a él y sentir un poco de adrenalina. Tranquilo, que si viene dispones de un espacio prudente para pararte al lado (siempre tomando las precauciones del caso).
The first place to visit is the Challape waterfall, and its imposing bridge. Imposing, because its set over 30 meters above and is only for the exclusive use of the train, however, you can take a photo right next to it and feel a little bit of its adrenaline. You will have a safe space to stand on its side for the pic (always with safety) if you decide to visit it.
Para llegar, tendrás que ir primero al pueblo de Huariquiña (a 3 kilómetros de Matucana), puedes llegar en auto, mototaxi o incluso caminando. Después de disfrutar el paisaje y tomar fotografías, podrás acercarte a la catarata Challape.
To get to the bridge, you will first need reach Huariquina town (3 km from Matucana), you can get ther by car, motorcycle taxi or even trekking. After enjoying the scenery and taking pictures, you can visit the Challape waterfall.

La siguiente catarata a visitar, será la de Antankallo, a 1 hora de Matucana. El paisaje en época seca o de lluvias es impresionante, una muestra de ello, es la silueta de la cara de un león en uno de los cerros, formada por capricho de la naturaleza.
The next waterfall to visit is called Antankallo, a 1-hour trek from Matucana. The landscape during the dry or rainy season is impressive, an example is the silhouette formation of a face on one of the side hills, created by nature’s whim.
Te darás cuenta que es un recorrido apto para todos los miembros de la familia, pues es normal ver personas mayores, niños y adultos realizando la caminata.Al llegar a la catarata, no dudes en darte un buen chapuzón, incluso en épocas secas, es una experiencia inolvidable. Como ves, es posible encontrarte con la naturaleza en un solo día, no necesitas alejarte mucho de la ciudad cuando en Matucana lo encuentras todo.

The lima handcraft approach takes us to the Lurigancho Prison, known to be the prison with the highest overpopulation in Lima, with more than 9,480 inmates, but what is their role in sustainable fashion? Six years ago, a social project was born in its jails in order to create a sustainable brand named Pieta. The brand has placed Peru and its people rich with humility values, effort and desire to generate a change in the impact of fashion. Each garment graphically conveys the message of what the brand represents with quality products, crafted with honor from prison. Its authentic graphics with simple prints, are prepared with ecological water-based inks, additionally, they are made with organic pima cotton or Peruvian tangüis, weaved by the prisoners. Different fashions? Sustainable fashion includes ethnic, ethic, technological and even vegan fashion; in few words, sustainable fashion starts using friendly hands, reducing highly polluting processes using the best finishing techniques with style.
Cada vez más los diseñadores plasman con mayor ímpetu sus colecciones inspiradas en los colores y culturas del Perú, ya que la tradición textil ha tomado mayor importancia a nivel mundial, y es vista como una industria con tendencia potencial. Lucir a la moda no solo nos hace lucir bien, sino que nos hace sentir bien, y más si lleva impreso el símbolo de una patria rica en culturas ancestrales, poderosas y llenas de color y belleza. Increasingly, designers reflect with greater vehemence their collections inspired by the colors and cultures of Peru, as the textile tradition has taken on greater importance worldwide, and is seen as an industry with a potential trend. Looking fashionable not only makes us look good, but it makes us feel good, especially if it bears the symbol of a country rich in ancestral and powerful cultures which are full of color and beauty.
