n el distrito de Carmen Salcedo-Andamarca, las costumbres ancestrales se aprenden de generación en generación. Cada año, en los últimos días de agosto, se reúnen para celebrar el Yaku Raymi, Fiesta del Agua traducido al español, atrayendo a cientos de visitantes.

n the district of Carmen Salcedo-Andamarca, ancestral customs are learned from generation to generation. Every year, in the last days of August, they meet to celebrate the Yaku Raymi, Water Festival translated into Spanish, attracting hundreds of visitors.
Para la comunidad, no es sólo la expresión de una tradición, es un ritual sagrado, una relación y tributo a la Pacha Mama. La celebración se acompaña de estampas coloridas, danzantes de tijeras, pagapus, ofrendas que los pobladores hacen a la tierra en agradecimiento o petición, ferias, representaciones escénicas, entre otros.
For the community, it is not only the expression of a tradition, it is a sacred ritual, a relationship and tribute to the Pacha Mama. The celebration is accompanied by colorful prints, scissors dancers, pagapus, offerings that the villagers make to the land in gratitude or petition, fairs, stage performances, among others.
Todos se reúnen para la limpieza de las acequias antes de la llegada de la temporada de lluvias. Así, cuando el agua llegue, encontrará un camino limpio y podrá ser usada para consumo o irrigación. Esta limpieza significa el inicio de un nuevo ciclo de vida para la comunidad.
Everyone gathers to clean the ditches before the arrival of the rainy season. Thus, when the water arrives, you will find a clean path and can be used for consumption or irrigation. This cleaning means the beginning of a new life cycle for the community.

Fervor. Cientos de fieles se reúnen en torno al anda, se aprecian aglomeraciones y colas desde las cuatro de la mañana para lograr una mejor ubicación. Fervor. Hundreds of faithful gather around the “anda”, crowds and lines can be seen from four in the morning so as to achieve a better location.
Esta celebración atrae a miles de turistas nacionales y extranjeros abarrotando los diversos hospedajes que no se dan abasto y se llenan días antes de la celebración. Los visitantes se desplazan por la ciudad siguiendo las diferentes procesiones que tienen como principal atractivo el fervor, la congregación de fieles y el dolor de aquellos que se reúnen a rememorar la pasión y muerte de Jesús.
This celebration attracts thousands of domestic and foreign tourists who fill up the various lodgings that are not able to cope with and are filled days before the celebration. Visitors move around the city following the different processions that have as their main attraction the fervor, the congregation of the faithful and the pain of those who come together to remember the passion and death of Jesus.

Además, esta emblemática procesión se inicia a las cinco de la mañana con la salida del anda de la Catedral de Huamanga que es recibida por cientos de fieles aglomerados en las puertas esperando tener la oportunidad de estar cerca y capturar el momento.

Sonidos ancestrales del Perú para el mundo.
La quijada de burro es un instrumento de percusión de origen africano, usado también en Hispanoamérica. Se elabora con la quijada de un burro, esta es hervida y secada hasta que los molares se aflojan y producen un particular sonido de castañeo. Los historiadores indican que, para que este instrumento sea resistente, se expone al fuego antes de ser usado. Puede emitir dos sonidos diferentes: el primero al golpear la parte inferior o lateral de la quijada con la palma, el segundo al pasar un palito de madera por la fila de dientes.
Ancestral sounds of Peru for the world.
The donkey’s jaw is a percussion instrument of African origin, also used in Latin America. It is made with the jawbone of a donkey, it is boiled and dried until the molars loosen and produce a particular sound of chattering. Historians indicate that, for this instrument to be resistant, it is exposed to fire before it is used. It can emit two different sounds: the first when striking the lower or lateral part of the jaw with the palm, the second when passing a wooden stick through the row of teeth.

After decades of applying strict conservation standards, the population has recovered, allowing old traditions linked to their upbringing, such as the chaccu, to remain alive. Kuna undertakes that commitment.
Bajo un cielo azul intenso a más de 4,000 m.s.n.m., su delicada figura y su pelaje castaño lleva consigo el gran tesoro que es su fibra, la más fina del mundo (mide de 10 a 13 micrones); plena de belleza y cualidades, es custodiada por pastores y campesinos habitantes de comunidades aledañas, herederos de una cultura sabia y milenaria.
Under an intense blue sky at more than 4,000 masl, its delicate figure and its brown fur carry the great treasure of its fiber, the finest in the world (it measures 10 to 13 microns). Full of beauty and qualities, it is guarded by shepherds and peasants living in neighboring communities, heirs of a wise and millennial culture.
La bella y finísima fibra de vicuña, resistente, muy suave y tibia, fue para los antiguos tejedores del Ande la más valiosa materia prima. Ellos cuidaron mucho de la especie y crearon un sistema de captura que no dañaba al animal, ni comprometía su estado agreste: el chaccu, método que consiste en formar una gran cadena humana, cercando las tropillas de vicuñas; una vez cerrado el círculo alrededor de los animales, se procede a la esquila, para luego liberarlas, agradeciendo al poderoso Inti por tan generosa dádiva.
The beautiful and thin vicuña fiber, which is resistant, very soft and warm, was the most valuable raw material for the ancient weavers of the Andes. They took great care of the species and created a capture system that did not harm the animal, nor compromised its wild state: the chaccu, a method that consists of forming a large human chain, surrounding the herds of vicuñas. Once the animals are surrounded within the circle, the shearing process begins; then they are released, and a ceremony is performed to thank the mighty Inti for such generous gift.

Hoy en día, tras décadas de aplicar estrictas normas de conservación, su población se ha recuperado, existiendo en Sudamérica poco más de 350,000 individuos, de los cuales 208,000 habitan en el Perú. Para el acopio de su fibra se recurre nuevamente al chaccu, gracias al conocimiento que aún preservan las comunidades andinas, las que participan también en el proceso posterior a la esquila, como el descerdado (el retiro manual de las cerdas que de forma natural existen en el vellón) y el delicado lavado a mano.

as dunas del desierto de Nazca quedan atrás; el paisaje prístino del litoral de la Reserva San Fernando al sur del departamento de Ica nos regala su accidentada superficie que recibe el vaivén de las olas al estrellarse en su caprichosa costa. Miles de aves guaneras de varias especies pintan el cielo al volar a la mar en busca de alimento. El bullicio de las magníficas colonias de lobos marinos de dos especies: los finos y los chuscos captan nuestra atención al descansar plácidos en las playas y peñas o nadando entre las olas. Los lobos finos o de dos pelos de menor tamaño con una figura mucho más esbelta y la nariz erguida, prefieren las peñas y roquedales cercanos a las rompientes. En las pozas de agua calma se divisan kindergártenes de crías que sociabilizan jugueteando mientras esperan el retorno de sus madres de las faenas de pesca en alta mar; principalmente peces y moluscos. Como en todas las especies de pinnípedos el macho es siempre más robusto y de mayor tamaño que las hembras. Los alfa orgullosos y desafiantes protegen sus harenes manteniendo sus territorios vigilantes de cualquier intruso. Especie antiguamente perseguida por las características de su pelaje en el mercado peletero, hoy se encuentra protegida en la Reserva Nacional Sistema de islas, islotes y puntas guaneras distribuidas a lo largo de todo el litoral peruano. Sus mayores poblaciones se encuentran en las aguas frías de la costa central y sur del Perú hasta las costas chilenas. La mayor problemática que enfrenta esta especie es la contaminación de sus ecosistemas, la falta de alimento por la sobre explotación de la industria pesquera, la muerte incidental por asfixia en redes de pesca o asesinados por la destrucción de las mismas.

The bustle of the magnificent colonies of seals and sea lions capture our attention when they rest placid on the beaches and rocks, or swimming among the waves. The South American Fur Seal smaller in size than the South American Sea Lion and with much slender figure and with its nose upright prefer the rocky shores close to the breakers. In the pools of calm water there are kindergartens of Fur Seals cubs that socialize playing while waiting the return of their mothers from fishing in the open sea; mainly fish and mollusks. As in all species of pinnipeds, the male is always more robust and larger than the females. The proud and defiant alpha protects their harems by keeping their territories vigilant of any intruder. Species formerly persecuted for the characteristics of its fur in the fur market, today it is protected in the National Reserve System of islands, islets and guano points distributed along the entire Peruvian coast. Its largest populations are found in the cold waters of central and southern coast of Peru to the Chilean coasts. The biggest problem that this species faces is the contamination of its ecosystems, the lack of food due to the over exploitation of the fishing industry, the incidental death by asphyxiation in fishing nets or killed for destroying fishing nets. Pocos saben que esta ciudad, por cierto llamada “ciudad de las palmeras”, que se extiende unos 15 km2 (¡178 veces más pequeña que Lima!), es realmente “Santa Cruz de los Motilones de Tarapoto”, y que a pesar de ser una de las ciudades más conocidas del departamento de San Martín, no es su capital. Pues ciertamente la capital es Moyobamba. Pero, ¿de dónde proviene el vocablo Tarapoto? Sin ser muy históricos o teóricos, se barajan (entre otras) 2 versiones recurrentes: una de la que habla de palmeras a orillas de la Cocha de Suchiche que los pobladores locales llamaban Tarapotus. La otra, de la fusión de 2 vocablos al referirse a la venta de algunos productos comestibles que llamaban “tara”, y que colocaban en una suerte de vasija hecha del fruto de un árbol denominada “poto”.

De lo que tenemos para ver y hacer en Tarapoto: incursiones culturales, históricas, naturales, deportivas (de aventura), gastronómicas, de pura diversión y, por supuesto, descanso pleno. ¿Algo más para unas vacaciones soñadas? Vámonos a las naturales, explorando casi obligatoriamente las cataratas en las cercanías: “Ahuashiyacu”, la más visitada por ser la más cercana a la ciudad. Huacamaillo, a 2 horas de caminata alucinante desde San Pedro de Cumbaza, con cruce del río del mismo nombre a pie, y con tan solo 20 metros de caída, se convierte en un objetivo para el aventurero que busca más “exclusividad” en su ruta. “Del Breo”, como casi todo lo más espectacular es lo más alejado y difícil de conseguir: con una caída de 140 metros es la catarata más alejada y para visitarla hay que pernoctar. Ideal para aventureros. Ni qué decir de sus lagunas, siendo indudablemente la más conocida “La Laguna Sauce” que todos conocen como “Laguna Azul”, y que recibe este nombre no por el color de sus aguas, ya que es verde, sino del reflejo del cielo. A solo 45 km de Tarapoto, es una parada infaltable en tu travesía a la aventura amazónica, verde y caliente de este magnífico destino.
