ace mucho tiempo, vivía el dios Inti con sus hijos en una cima celestial. Uno de ellos, de nombre Rímac, solía acudir al mundo de los hombres para contar sus historias, por lo que era muy querido.

he Legend of the Talking River Long ago, the god Inti lived with his children on a heavenly peak. One of them, named Rimac, used to go to the world of men to tell his stories, reason why he was well loved.
Un día, en compañía de sus hermanos, miraba hacia la tierra a través de las ventanas del palacio y pudo ver cómo una fuerte sequía dejaba sin vida hierbas, flores, árboles y cómo los animales y hombres se morían de sed. Alarmados, fueron a ver a su padre, el dios Inti, para pedirle que parara la sequía. Sin embargo, este les dijo que según las leyes celestiales, solo podía hacer caer agua si sacrificaba a uno de ellos.
One day, in the company of his brothers, he looked towards the earth through the windows of the palace and could see how a severe drought had left lifeless vegetation, flowers, and trees, and how animals and men were dying of thirst. Alarmed, they went to their father, the god Inti, to ask him to stop the drought. However, he told them that according to heavenly laws, he could only bring water down on earth if he sacrificed one of them.
Todos permanecieron en silencio. Chaclla, una de las más virtuosas hijas del sol se ofreció como sacrificio ante la mirada atónita de sus hermanos. Rímac no pudo aceptar esta decisión y automáticamente se ofreció en lugar de ella. No obstante, su hermana estaba decidida a ser parte del sacrificio, pues no quería privar al universo de las historias de su hermano.
All of them remained silent. Chaclla, one of the most virtuous daughters of the sun, offered herself as a sacrifice before the astonished gaze of her brothers. Rimac could not accept this decision and automatically offered himself in her place. However, her sister was determined to be a part of the sacrifice, for she did not want to deprive the universe of her brother’s tales.
Por decisión del Inti, ambos fueron sacrificados. Convertidos en agua, jugaban entre las nubes, cayendo por el río hasta el mar y volviendo a subir al cielo. Sin embargo, su alegría no fue eterna, pues luego de un tiempo Chaclla se quedó en el cielo como lluvia y Rímac en río.
By Inti’s decision, both were sacrificed. Now turned into water, they played among the clouds, falling through the river to the sea and rising again to the sky. However, their joy was not eternal, because after a while Chaclla remained in the sky as rain and Rimac as a river.
Hay quienes cuentan que cuando se acercan al río pueden oírlo murmurar: seamos amigos, conóceme y será tuyo mí saber, cuidemos la naturaleza y el agua que es fuente de vida y alegría en el mundo.

Lima, known for its imposing and elegant clubs of yesteryear in the seafront, still hides places full of adrenaline and adventure for anyone who wants to explore it. In its early years, La Herradura Beach became well known for its select community of vacationers who frequented it, making it well known and, with time, very popular.
No obstante, estas joyas limeñas siguen sobresaliendo por su belleza natural y difícil acceso. En los años setenta, llegar a la playa La Herradura, era todo un reto, actualmente las pistas y los autos todo terreno convierten la larga travesía en quince minutos de viaje.

Para llegar, se debe manejar una hora al sur de Lima, en camioneta para que esta pueda atravesar la arena y luego, trepar un cerro durante 30 minutos, para finalmente llegar, luego de una caminata de 20 minutos, a este pequeño paraíso limeño: Chilca.

¡El pututo! The pututo

El pututo, antes conocido como huaylla-quepa, es un instrumento musical de viento. Fue utilizado, por diferentes culturas peruanas, tanto como medio de comunicación como para acompañar las melodías con sus sonidos. Fue llevado de la costa a todos los rincones del país. Para convertir el caracol en instrumento, se perforaba el ápex, con embocaduras de madera o caña, hoy en día puede perforarse también con metal y plástico. Además, para poder ser utilizados deben de tener, al menos, 50 años de antigüedad. Usualmente era, en algunas localidades sigue siendo, utilizado como un instrumento para convocar a reuniones especiales o para anunciar eventos de gran magnitud. Su sonido intenso podía servir para alertar a las personas ante una situación de amenaza o peligro. En ceremonias solía usarse de manera simbólica para el llamado del espíritu del Kuntur o del cóndor. Además, los hombres que realizaban el correo lo podían usar para anunciar. También ha sido utilizado en Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile y parte de Argentina.

The pututo, formerly known as huaylla-quepa, is a wind musical instrument. It was used by different Peruvian cultures, both as a means of communication and to accompany the melodies with their sounds. It was brought from the coast to every corner of the country. In order to turn the snail into an instrument, the apex was perforated with wood or cane mouthpieces; nowadays it can also be perforated with metal and plastic. In addition, for them to be used they must be at least 50 years old. It was usually used, and in some localities, it still is used as an instrument to summon special meetings or to announce important events. Its intense sound could serve to alert people to a situation of threat or danger. In ceremonies, it used to be used in a symbolic way for the call of the spirit of the Kuntur or the condor. Also, the men who carried the mail could use it to announce themselves. It has also been used in Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, and part of Argentina.

icanor González’s dream came true after his parting, when his children decided to commit to what his father always wanted: a meats restaurant. Since its opening, it has made its way to becoming one of the most recognized grills and sought after for its delicious hamburgers, which took them to the FILO edition of Hamburgers in 2017 and to the BurgerFest last October.

l santuario de Pachacamac se encuentra ubicado en el valle de Lurín. Nació hace más de tres mil años con el asentamiento de diferentes pueblos que buscaban aprovechar su proximidad al agua. Los primeros asentamientos de personas se estiman del periodo Arcaico, en el 5000 a.C., después, en el Formativo, de los 1800 a.C. hasta los 200 a.C., y, en el Formativo Tardío, de los 200 a.C. a los 200 d.C., ocuparon distintos lugares y llegaron hasta los conocidos hoy como Tablada de Lurín y Villa El Salvador.

The first settlements of people are estimated from the Archaic period, in 5000 B.C., then, in the Formative, from 1800 B.C. to 200 B.C., and, in the Late Formative, from 200 B.C. to 200 A.D.; these people occupied different places and reached the places known today as Tablada de Lurín and Villa El Salvador.

Miles de peregrinos visitaban sus templos para llevar a cabo rituales andinos, debido a que este lugar era considerado como un oráculo certero con el don de predecir el futuro y los movimientos de la tierra. Además, los habitantes de todo el Perú, recurrían a él en busca de consejos o soluciones para sus problemas.

Se estima que fue desocupado en la época Colonial. Años más tarde, distintos investigadores han tratado de entender su complejidad y misticismo, algunos de ellos: Julio C. Tello, Arturo Jiménez Borja y Max Uhle.
Pachacamac means the soul of the earth, the one that enlivens the world. Its worship became the center of all coastal religion and the main sanctuary of the coast for more than a thousand years. Thousands of pilgrims visited its temples to carry out Andean rituals because this place was considered an accurate oracle with the gift of predicting the future and the movements of the earth. En esta biodiversidad, se encuentran también varios climas, de forma que las temperaturas pueden ir de 0°C y subir a más de 30°C.
These are five days of incredible scenery. The trail begins with breathtaking views of a valley of green mountains, it runs up to a blue lagoon, where snow peaks are reflected, and then it crosses the Humantay and Salkantay Snow peaks at 4,650 meters above sea level. Afterward, you descend through a very humid high jungle, with very dense fog, to then pass through coffee and various fruit plantations, escorted by rivers and giant waterfalls, next to the train track until reaching Aguas Calientes. You will also discover a very diverse and unforgettable fauna and flora: orchids, fruits, hummingbirds and much more. Several climates are also present in this biodiversity, so temperatures can go from 0°C to higher than 30°C.

l enmarañado laberinto del sistema fluvial del rio Amazonas es gigantesco y depende del agua de la lluvia para mantener el equilibrio de vida que por milenios ha evolucionado en la selva más biodiversa del planeta. Al navegar por sus serpenteantes ríos asombra la inmensa variedad de especies plantas y animales; entre ellas, las tímidas tortugas de rio llamadas taricaya que asoman sus cabezas y salen a tomar el sol sobre árboles caídos mientras frágiles mariposas se posan sobre sus ojos y fosas nasales para libar sales minerales. Son conocidas también como “tortugas de cuello ladeado” por esconder lateralmente la cabeza en el caparazón. De jóvenes en la cabeza poseen manchas amarillas que las identifican las cuales se van apagando con la edad. Son principalmente herbívoras, aunque también dan presa a peces e invertebrados. Durante la estación seca las hembras salen a desovar excavando un nido en las playas de arena, poniendo entre 20 a 35 huevos. Aproximadamente 70 días después diminutas tortuguitas nacen y el instinto las lleva a correr hacia la seguridad del agua. Estos emblemáticos reptiles siempre han tenido una estrecha relación con el ser humano, sin embargo, las ha sobreexplotado, pues las ha cazado hasta extinguirlas en muchas zonas dejando a comunidades amazónicas sin dicho recurso como fuente alimenticia. Por fortuna existen proyectos donde comunidades, científicos y voluntarios recolectan los huevos antes que los pescadores ilegales o que los mercados negros de mascotas arrasen con la próxima generación. Inmediatamente son llevados a playas artificiales que garantizan su incubación. El apreciar el rostro inocente de niños cuidar y dar libertad en las cochas y ríos a las pequeñas taricayas es mágico. El ejemplo de hombres y mujeres de diversas etnias y comunidades amazónicas del Abanico del Pastaza, la cuenca del rio Madre de Dios y la del Pacaya-Samiria entre otras, a favor de proteger y hacer sostenibles sus recursos; es esperanzador. Actualmente se encuentra como especie “Vulnerable”.

he tangled labyrinth of the Amazon river system is gigantic and depends on rainwater to maintain the balance of life that for millennia has evolved in the most biodiverse rainforest on the planet. As you navigate its meandering rivers, the immense variety of plant and animal species is astonishing; among them, the shy river turtles called “taricaya” that stick out their heads and leave the water to sunbathe on fallen trees while fragile butterflies rest on their eyes and nostrils to lick mineral salts. They are also known as “side-necked river turtles” because they hide their heads laterally in the shell. During young they have yellow spots on their heads which identify them and fade with the age. They are mainly herbivorous, although they also prey on fish and invertebrates. During the dry season, females spawn by digging a nest on sandy beaches, laying between 20 and 35 eggs. Approximately 70 days later tiny turtles are born and instinct leads them to run towards the safety of the water. These emblematic reptiles have always had a close relationship with humans, however, they have been overexploited, as they have been hunted to extinction in many areas, leaving Amazonian communities without this resource as a food source. Fortunately, there are projects where communities, scientists and volunteers collect eggs before illegal fishermen or the black market for pets destroy the next generation. They are immediately taken to artificial beaches that guarantee their incubation. Appreciating the innocent faces of children caring for and giving freedom in the oxbow lakes and rivers to the small taricayas is magical. The example of men and women from different ethnic groups and Amazonian communities of the El Abanico del Pastaza, the Madre de Dios and Pacaya-Samiria river basins, among others, in favor of protecting and making their resources sustainable, is reason for hope. It is currently listed as a “Vulnerable” species.

Uno de los recreos más concurridos es La Leyenda, debido a su llamativa infraestructura. Cabe aclarar, que no es necesario consumir en dicho campestre para acceder a los botes, solo basta con pagar 3 soles y una colaboración al encargado, para pasear y escuchar la peculiar historia del origen de la laguna de Paca. Totalmente recomendado.
