The 21st edition of Peruvian Magazine introduces us to the mysticism of the Corpus Christi festivity in Cusco. l dios Wiracocha existió en el tiempo en el que en el cielo no había ni sol, ni luna, ni estrellas. Sobre la tierra andina creó a una primera generación de mujeres y hombres de una talla grande y, aunque parecía reinar la calma en esta tierra habitada por gigantes, con el tiempo se portaron mal y se olvidaron de su creador. El dios Wiracocha al ver esto los consideró soberbios, por lo que tomó la decisión de castigarlos convirtiéndolos en piedra, las cuales se pueden apreciar en Tiahuanaco.
The Wiracocha God existed at the time when there was no sun, no moon, and no stars in the sky. o es un miércoles cualquiera. En las calles y en las plazas hay movimiento e inquietud. También en las iglesias, donde los fieles andan apurados. Ellos tienen mil cosas que hacer antes de cumplir con su fe, su tradición y costumbre. Esas que aprendieron o heredaron de sus antepasados. Esas que son fruto del sincretismo religioso que se sembraría en los Andes peruanos hace más de cinco siglos. Todo ese movimiento e inquietud en el centro histórico, en los barrios y en los principales templos del Cusco -la ciudad incaica, colonial y mestiza que palpita identidad a 3399 m.s.n.m.- precede a la colorida y bulliciosa entrada del Corpus Christi, acto que marca el inicio de una celebración católica que se siente y se vive de una manera distinta en la ‘Capital Arqueológica de América’.

t’s not just any Wednesday. There is movement and restlessness in the streets and squares. Also in the churches, where the faithful are in a hurry. They have a thousand things to do before they fulfill their faith, tradition and custom. Those who learned or inherited from their ancestors. Those that are the fruit of the religious syncretism that would be sown in the Peruvian Andes more than five centuries ago. All that movement and restlessness in the historic center, in the neighborhoods and in the main temples of Cusco - the Inca, colonial and mestizo city that beats identity at 3399 m.a.s.l. - precedes the colorful and bustling entrance of Corpus Christi, an act that marks the start of a Catholic celebration that is felt and experienced in a different way in the ‘Archaeological Capital of America’.

Día excepcional. Las imágenes de los santos patrones cusqueños salen en procesión desde sus parroquias. Su destino es la Catedral. Hacia allá las llevan sus devotos, cargándolas sobre sus hombros las llevan. No es fácil. Se cansan, sufren, solo resisten por su fe; esa fe que comparten con los carguyoq (mayordomos), quienes voluntariamente asumen el compromiso de organizar y financiar la fiesta. Estallan bombardas y cohetones, vibran los instrumentos de los conjuntos y bandas y se remece el suelo por el zapateo de los danzantes, mientras algunos brindan con chicha, aguardiente y cerveza o agasajan sus paladares con el infaltable chiri uchu (ají frío en español), una atrevida combinación de cuy, pollo, charqui (carne seca de llama), queso, cancha, cochayuyo, entre otros ingredientes. Todo eso ocurre cuando San Pedro y San Blas, Santa Ana y Santa Bárbara, la Virgen de la Inmaculada Concepción, ‘La Linda’, y la Virgen de los Remedios, por mencionar solo algunas de las 15 imágenes que abandonan los altares de sus localidades, para pasar varias noches en la Catedral, donde el ‘anfitrión’ es el Señor de los Temblores (Taytacha Temblores), la efigie de Cristo que es el patrón jurado de la ciudad.

Otra procesión, la central del Corpus Christi (Cuerpo de Cristo en español), efeméride que se centra en la Eucaristía, recordando el acto de Jesús de convertir el pan y el vino en su cuerpo y sangre durante la Última Cena. Fue en 1752 que esta festividad surgida en el siglo XIII en Lieja (Bélgica), sería oficializa en la antigua capital incaica, por el virrey Francisco de Toledo.
Thursday, a new day. El arpa andina es un patrimonio musical de origen europeo traído por los españoles y adaptado por los habitantes autóctonos según sus necesidades expresivas y artísticas. Su uso es común en Ancash, Cusco y Ayacucho. Existen diferencias en la forma y la factura de las arpas: la de Lucanas (Ayacucho) es de líneas más redondas, la huancaína es más ancha. Mientras que la cusqueña es la más grande y puede tener hasta ocho huecos en la tapa. La encontramos siguiendo la Cordillera, de norte a sur, desde el norte de Ancash hasta el sur de Cusco. La medida del arpa peruana es única: más grande que la céltica, más pequeña que la clásica, más ancha que la paraguaya. También en Cusco se encuentra el arpa “domingacha”, más chiquita, pero de forma muy redonda. Sin embargo, todas tienen una característica en común: una caja de resonancia de grandes dimensiones. l final de la vía Expresa, Alonso García abrió El Hawaiano, restaurante especializado en comida peruana, pero donde nunca falta la cocina internacional. La aventura comenzó el 3 de octubre de 1989 con 6 mesas, 4 entradas y 4 platos de fondo en un pequeño local de Chorrillos. Mientras su demanda y la carta se expandían, surgió la idea de preparar el buffet más grande de Lima.
At the end of the Via Expresa, Alonso García opened El Hawaiano, a restaurant specialized in Peruvian food, but where international cuisine is never lacking. The Manu National Park is a Biosphere Reserve considered a World Heritage site for the Humaty by the Unesco, and one of the most bio diverse areas on the planet. It is located south east of Peru, between the states of Cusco and Madre de Dios, covering the entire basin of the Manu River. The Park was created on May 29, 1973 and has an area of 1,716,295.22 hectares. With a high biodiversity, there are up to five recommended areas for ecotourism. Al tercer día, contratamos un tour y salimos hacia el Cañón del Colca. En el camino podrás ver vicuñas y alpacas, el bus hará paradas para que puedas posar junto a ellas y llevarte un recuerdo fotográfico del momento. También, paramos a tomar mate de coca, tienes tres variedades para elegir, nosotros optamos por el mate de coca del inca, que mezcla diversas hierbas. En el recorrido se harán varias paradas para poder observar los volcanes, hasta llegar al destino final. Al día siguiente nos dirigimos al mirador de la Cruz del Cóndor, el camino pasa al filo del cañón, abajo el río Colca a una profundidad de 1.200 metros y el murallón al frente, llega a medir 3.100 metros de altura en cuyas cumbres se ven los hielos y los cóndores vuelan majestuosos.

Para llegar a las ruinas de Chiprac empezamos el trekking desde San Juan de Uchucuánico, una caminata algo exigente, ya que por momentos la pendiente es muy elevada, además de la constante neblina en el camino que dificulta la caminata. Sin embargo, esto hace más interesante el recorrido pues aumenta el deseo de saber qué continúa en el camino. Al llegar a la cima de una montaña puedes observar unas pequeñas chullpas que te invitan a seguir. Así, después de unas 3 horas de caminata, llegamos a Chiprac. Un complejo arqueológico y que en su momento fue la capital del Reino de los Atavillos comprendido entre los años 900 y 1400.

En Chiprac encontrarás diferentes chullpas en buen estado de conservación de hasta 3 pisos, solo recuerda respetar lo que nuestros antepasados dejaron para nosotros: no pises las chullpas, no dejes pintas ni marcas y conserva tus desperdicios en una bolsa para que la lleves contigo de regreso.
