BREAKING NEWS: SINGING GROUP FOR OLDER ADULTS IS ADDED TO ENDANGERED LIST! The Swinging Singing Seniors of FUMC are threatened with following in the footsteps of the dinosaur and the dodo. New members are needed to stop this slide to extinction. We have heard all the excuses for not joining and here are the answers to the most common: 1) If you are over 50 and yet feel you are too young to be a Senior, we promise to create a new category of member – maybe Junior Senior or Beginning Senior? Or just focus on the swinging part. 2) If you think you can’t carry a tune in a bucket, bring the bucket and we’ll teach you how to carry it. See, there really are no excuses to come out and sing with us. The group has a lot of fun. They go out in the community to sing for groups, have fun seasonal get togethers (with food) and would welcome your participation.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesdays at 9:30am!

FUN ‘N FROLIC Annual Apple Trip | Thursday, October 20 | 9am - 4:30pm | $7 for travel | Sign up by October 6 | Lunch will be at Bub-Ba-Q in Jasper. Apples and more at Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge. On the way home, we’ll make a quick side trip to drive over the Concord Covered Bridge in Smyrna.

TONIGHT! 6:30pm Sanctuary Our church body will gather together to proclaim our faith and hope in Christ Jesus and to pray for our country and our friends and loved ones, who are experiencing physicial, emotional, and spiritual challenges.

ULTIMATE: THANK YOU! Thank you to all the people who helped in any way to pull together our second annual ULTIMATE! What a blessing for over 400 church members and friends to laugh, be silly, eat great BBQ, play games, worship, assemble over 15,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now, and fellowship together! And the offering of socks/underwear was fabulous! You truly have hearts for missions. But ULTIMATE cannot happen without many hands helping with setup, running activities, providing cakes, and cleaning up. Special thanks to Sprayberry’s BBQ for catering a delicious lunch for everyone! We look forward to next year’s ULTIMATE! -Karen Oothoudt

PASTORAL CARE BLOG Pastoral care is a facet of NFUMC’s ministry that encompasses life experiences and events. Look for information on a pastoral care blog that will contain articles and resource listings on various life issues. Proposed topics include caregiver and care receiver needs, depression, being part of the “sandwich” generation, healing, grief, suicide, holiday pressures, and what to do when God is silent. If there is a topic you would like to see addressed, please contact Maria at mbowers@newnanfumc.org or 770-253-7400 (x208)

Men’s Prayer Breakfast & Study | ongoing/drop-in | 7:00am | Gathering Room | Facilitator: Jerry Cox | Meets on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of each month in the Gathering Room. Join in fellowship and conversation focused on personal growth. Half Truths by Adam Hamilton | Begins September 13 (5-week study) | 10:30am - 12pm | Room 201 (Martha Fuller) | Cost: $13 for book | Facilitators: David & Harriette Haygood | True or false: Everything happens for a reason. God helps those who help themselves. God won’t give you more than you can handle. God said it, I believe it, that settles it. Love the sinner, hate the sin. We’ve heard these phrases all of our lives, but when compared to the wisdom found in Scripture, they’re really just popular sayings. Come learn more about these Half Truths!

Wednesdays

Women’s Bible Study: Gideon by Priscilla Shirer | Begins October 5 (8-week study) | 9-10:45am | Annex Room 212/213 | Cost: $15 for book | Facilitator: Rev. JoAn Kinrade | If you’ve ever struggled with insecurity or had trouble accepting your limitations, this study will help you see how God can use your weakness to unlock His strength. Gideon’s epic victory tells of one man’s struggle with his own weakness, and the One True God who transformed it into triumph. Let’s Talk | Ongoing/drop-in | 6:30pm | Room 203 (Henry Kitchens) | Facilitator: Dr. Stuart Greene | Do you have an opinion about the many current issues facing our nation and world today? Would you like to know what other Christians think about these issues and have a forum to share your thoughts? That’s the whole purpose of our weekly session of Let’s Talk. Each week we explore a timely, and sometimes controversial topic in an effort to discover how our Christian faith impacts and informs our position on the topic at hand. Attend any session to add your voice to the discussion! UTH Bible Study | Begins August 17 (ongoing) | 6:30pm | Youth Lounge STUDIES CONTINUED ON PAGE 6
