SUNDAY SCHOOL OVERVIEW: AGAPE CLASS The Agape Sunday School Class was formed in 1987 by a group of young couples as an interactive, discussion-based class dealing with real life issues. We are a caring, fun-loving group of about 45 active members around age 45 and up. Class members are very active in the life of our church including music ministry, friendship committee, job network ministry, Boy Scouts, Zoe Project, and others. We actively support Murphey-Harpst, Angel's House, Zoe Project, and other FUMC needs and projects. Class activities include our annual Christmas party, biannual pot-luck brunches, quarterly dinner club groups, and group socials as-needed. A group of 9 dedicated teachers share their talents leading our class in studies each Sunday. We have enjoyed studies by Adam Hamilton, Rob Renfro, and Andy Stanley. Some of our recent studies include The Story Continues (study of Acts) by E. Kalas, He Chose the Nails by Max Lucado and currently, Restored: Finding Redemption in Our Mess by Tom Berlin. We will be starting When All Hail Breaks Loose by Pat Day in mid-May. If you are interested in a Sunday School "home", we welcome your visit!

COLLEGE GRAD INFO NEEDED! The church wants to recognize our college graduates! If you have/are a college grad, please send the following info to the church office by May 14: Graduate's name; parents (and grandparents if members); degree earned; institution

KIDS MISSION CAMP Save the Date for our 3rd Annual Kids Mission Camp: July 24-26; 9am-2pm Rising 3rd-6th graders Each year we have watched this camp grow and expand as we join God in what He is doing. This year brings lots of excitement as we focus on serving locally in our community, our schools, and with one another! Adult volunteers: WE NEED YOU! Childcare available for those who need it! Registration details will be coming soon!

"We Didn't Lose Her" Betty Caroline Slate was born in Atlanta, GA, on August 10, 1927. She married William Akin Robinson on January 15, 1947, and became a mother on June 2, 1953. I was the oldest of four; two boys and two girls. My mother worked most of her adult life as a legal secretary. She was employed by three or four different attorneys and she spent many years with the City of Atlanta. Those years included time spent working in the City Attorney's office, a short time with Mayor William B. Hartsfield, and six or seven years with Mayor Ivan Allen, Jr. She could flat smoke a typewriter and I've often wondered why she didn't keep a fire extinguisher nearby when she was typing. My mother was an incredible woman with many gifts, skills, and talents. Cooking was not one of them. In fact, most "domestic" sorts of things were not high on her list. But, that's o.k. because my dad, a firefighter by trade, enjoyed cooking, cleaning, etc. It was a partnership that served them, and the rest of us, well for over 54 years. Marriages don't all balance out in the same way, do they? But, her strengths were many. She was an awesome chauffeur, making sure I got to where I needed to be, and always on time; that is, if she knew exactly where we were going. To say that Betty Robinson was directionally challenged would be an understatement of "Biblical proportions." She was my biggest cheerleader when I was growing up, never missing one of my Little League baseball games. I remember hearing once about a mom who choked to death on her chewing gum when her Little-League-playing son hit a home run. So, I started worrying about a similar thing happening to my mother. Further reflection upon my athletic abilities alleviated that fear. She was an animal lover without equal. My mother kept cat and dog food in her car and would often stop to feed a stray along the roadside. More times than I can count, she would bring that critter home. One of my dad's frequent threats was, "One more cat or dog in this house and I'm out of here!" He never left. She was a tutor with a vast expanse of knowledge. And, her exemplary typing skills assisted me on my journey through high school, college, and seminary. Her real area of expertise was grammar and if I really wanted to annoy her I would end a sentence with a preposition. She would ask me to bring her something and I would respond by saying, "Where's it at?" Her response to my response was always: "It's behind the preposition 'at'!" No hyperbole intended, she must have said it a million times. My mother died Labor Day weekend 2005, and my siblings leaned on me to speak at her funeral service. I didn't want to do that. I had spoken at my dad's service some four years earlier and it was difficult, to say the least. But, I caved in and honored their request. As I was concluding my remarks, I thanked everyone for their presence and I assured them that my family and I were going to be just fine. After all, she was a woman of great faith and we knew where she was AT!
