IN MEMORIAM

Allan Joseph Hartfree 3/4/1934 - 5/17/2018

“S

“Surely your goodness and love will ummertime, and the living is easy.” So goes follow me all the days of my life, and one of the lines from a popular show tune. I will dwell in the house of the Lord Allow me to re-write that line from a Church forever.” -Psalm 23:6 perspective... “Summertime, and the living is BUSY!” There are so many things going on at IN MEMORIAM Newnan FUMC over these next few months, and Ronald “Chub” Colmer Clifton for the record let me say, “that’s a good thing.” 6/26/1929 - 5/24/2018 One of the happenings contributing to the busyness has to do with creating a discipleship “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and pathway for our Church, seeking God’s vision I will dwell in the house of the Lord for us in the days to come. Our church staff is forever.” -Psalm 23:6 currently reading and studying a book titled Stride, written by Mike Schreiner and Ken Willard. One of our early steps will be the establishment of a Discipleship Process Team. This team will consist of laity, staff, and clergy. If you might have an interest in serving on this team, please contact me and I will be happy to meet with you and to go in to more detail about all of this. Discerning God’s will for us, seeking a vision that will focus on fulfilling our Mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world...pretty exciting stuff, if you ask me!

Like any worthwhile endeavor, this one begins with prayer. Last Wednesday, May 23, we held our first of a series of summer Prayer Meetings, seeking God’s will for our future as a Church. We will continue to meet on Wednesdays at 6:30pm in the Youth Lounge and Y-O-U are invited to participate. Let me close out these brief remarks with a prayer that we will be using often during these days of summer. It was composed by Rev. JoAn Kinrade: “Our Heavenly Father, Sovereign and Holy God, faithful throughout all generations, we thank you and praise you for Newnan First United Methodist Church. We thank you for all those who have gone before us, loving and serving you through their lives of faith, bearing witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ. We ask God, that you guide us by the power of your Holy Spirit. Grant us wisdom and revelation that we may be a church that positively impacts this community with the love of Jesus- for generations to come. We seek your will as we humble ourselves in surrender. Teach us how to live in community with all people. Show us where and how you are calling us forward. Give us your vision for this, your church. We desire to be doers of your word, not hearers only. Dispel the fear that comes with growth and change and strengthen us in unity and purpose. We pray that many will come to know the love of Jesus through our lives of faithful service. We love you, Lord and pray in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, Amen.”

Rev. Charles Robinson
