ADVENT BOOKLET The Worship Ministry Team would like to publish our very own Advent Booklet this year. This Booklet would contain short devotions written by our own Newnan First members and will provide our members the opportunity for spiritual focus and renewal during the Advent Season. The devotion is based on faith and the preparation of Christ’s birth. It can be approximately 200 words based on your own reflections. It can include favorite scripture, poems, words to songs,… You may conclude with a short prayer that encourages your readers to respond to what you have written by lifting their hearts to God. In order for us to finish this project on time, we ask that you make your submission by Tuesday, November 1. If you have any questions or would like to submit a devotion for this booklet, please contact Susan Perkins (susanperkins5855@gmail.com) or Karen Oothoudt (koothoudt@newnanfumc.org) Thank you for your readiness to undertake this ministry.

DINNER WITH FRIENDS...BUILDING COMMUNITY NEW ADULT MINISTRY

Dinner with Friends is a great way to meet folks from church that you may not already know. It’s also a good way to get to know your church family better. These dinners are an exciting way for those new to First UMC to connect with others that have made First UMC their church home. It is also an opportunity for guests who are visiting the church to experience Christian community informally. Modeled on what Jesus loved to do (see Luke 5, 9, 19, and 22) – we invite you to share meals and Christian fellowship with new friends. Groups plan their own meals and get together once a month for four consecutive months. You share meals at participants’ homes, at local restaurants, the church or wherever the group decides. The emphasis is on fun and fellowship, so you don’t have to be a gourmet cook to participate. Dinner with Friends groups six - eight willing people together, and they will plan meals in order to get to know one another better. Simply indicate your interest on the Connection card in Sunday’s bulletin OR sign-up online by the deadline. Singles or couples can sign up. Once groups are formed, a host will be selected for each group. Then he/she will contact members to arrange the details for the first gathering. Dinner groups are encouraged to be creative in the meals they enjoy together. Members of the group take turns serving as host. Each group meets once a month for 4 months. Then at the end of the 4th month, new groups are formed. Contact Karen Oothoudt with any questions: koothoudt@newnanfumc.org

NOTE: NO ROOT345 THIS SUNDAY UTH FALL RETREAT Retreats are opportunities to take a break from ordinary life and spend some dedicated time with God and your UTH family. They’re full of fun, activities, worship, family groups, and free-time. They are meant to allow students to recharge and refresh their souls and to place memories and spiritual markers in their lives. November 18-20, 2016 Ocoee Retreat Center, Ocoee, TN Cost: $85 Sign up @ NewnanUTH.com

NO REGULAR UTH WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY Join us at Greenville St. Park from 5-7pm for a Night of Worship in the park!

DORRIS GILBERT @ UTH: OCTOBER 16 Make sure to mark your calendar for October 16th. Dorris Gilbert, our church’s oldest active member, will be coming to share her testimony with UTH. Dorris was actually the founder of our youth ministries at Newnan FUMC.

There will be NO ROOT 345 Bible study this Sunday, October 9 due to the Night of Worship. Come out and eat and worship with us!

CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL Children’s Sunday School begins at 9:45am every Sunday. Pre-K through 3rd grade will be signed in at the KidCheck station in front of the Chapel for praise and worship until 10:00, and then they’ll be taken to their classrooms. 4th & 5th grades must also be signed in to KidCheck in front of the Chapel and then escorted upstairs to their classes. ALL Children’s Sunday School ends at 10:40am and ALL children must be picked up by a named adult or older sibling (6th grade or older, please) by this time. Any children not picked up from their classrooms by 10:50 will be escorted to the Narthex to wait with the ushers until parents arrive to pick them up.

PARENT VOLUNTEER CORE It’s been said that every student needs five significant adult connections beyond their family in their lives to help them ground their faith and make it last for the long-haul. This could be a mentor, a Sunday School teacher, a family group leader or even the smiling face that hands a student pizza each week. To do this, we need your help as parents during our regular Sunday worship, local events and trips. You might also have some special skills that would be useful, such as photography, scrap-booking or painting. Putting all of our hands and gifts together will give us the chance to be as effective as possible in strengthening our student’s faith. By registering your information online (NewnanUTH. com & click “For Parents” at the top), we’ll put you into a contact database to keep you regularly informed of ways that you can jump in and help. Thanks in advance for your willingness to join in this Kingdom work.

NEW THIS YEAR: Please purchase your tickets BEFORE the event. Tickets are available on Wednesday nights, Sundays, and throughout the week in the church office.

PRESCHOOL NEWS Becky Greene brought her dog, Mercy, to our Kindergarten class as part of Mercy’s training to be a therapy dog. Mrs. Becky read a story to the children while Mercy waited patiently (picture p. 5). The children loved having them visit and hope they will come back! Our Preschool Consignment Sale was a HUGE success! Thanks to everyone who helped with the sale and to everyone who consigned items and shopped!

Blessings,

Nancy Martin
