MISSIONS MOMENT:

FUN ‘N FROLIC

Spreading JOY to children in our community isn't just something that happens through Trick-or-Treat on Halloween - yes, that's tonight! And, yes, I'm bringing up Christmas before the costumed children and families in our communities begin to light the jacko-lanterns or ring the door bells with the limericks and rhymes to greet you in hopes of being given a sweet treat for their sweet tooth! So, why am I talking about CHRISTMAS in the Shepherd being sent out on HALLOWEEN?!

SOUTHERN MUSEUM of CIVIL WAR and LOCOMOTIVE

HISTORY | Wednesday, November 15 | 9am-4pm | $11 | Sign up by November 1... TOMORROW!!! | Experience the dramatic history of railroads and the War Between the States at this Museum! The Museum provides visitors with a unique perspective into the strategic and economic use of railroads during and after the Civil War. The museum is home to the General locomotive (made famous during the Great locomotive Chase of 1862), an impressive Civil War collection, and the Glover Machine Works, a restored early 20th Century belt-driven locomotive assembly line. After the museum, there will be a walkabout around the beautiful Marietta Square. Lunch and shopping will be on your own.

It's time to bring JOY to our community through the Joy Tree Project! Annually, our church has been blessed to have the opportunity to reach out to children who are in need so that they will have gifts of toys and the like as well as clothing - fun and essentials! Most importantly, these gifts extend the gift of love and it is so fitting for us to extend this gift of love at Christmas to those who are in need in the name of Jesus, the one who nearly had no shelter at the time of his birth. So what do you need to know? How can you help? Joy Trees will be up in the Narthex (outside the sanctuary) and in the lobby of the Parish Hall by November 15th! The trees will have cards containing the name, age, and gift information for a child in our community. There will be cards for gifts ranging from toys to books to bicycles that speak to the interests of each child. There will also be cards for gifts for clothing with their size, etc. listed for your reference. The cards will contain individual information for each child, whose first name will be shown on the card. You will have a tag to fill out and drop in a box so we know who has taken the cards for each child's fun items and essentials. Once we are down to 5 cards or less on each tree, the trees will be taken down.

ALTERNATIVE GIFT FAIR The Missions Committee will be hosting an Alternative Gift Fair Sunday December 3rd and Wednesday December 6th in the Parish Hall to help raise funds to support foreign missions. Available items will include handcrafted bags, jewelry, and carvings by Zoe orphans and other local Kenyan artisans, as well as other handcrafted goods from around the world.

You can help with decorating the trees with cards and the putting up or taking down of trees. You can help by sponsoring a child. Please pray for the child to whom you are giving gifts and their family - birth family and foster family or guardians.

We would like to invite any of our local artisans to participate as well, by donating any of your own handcrafted goods to be available during this gift fair as well. More details to come! See Brooke (bbarksdale@newnanfumc.org) or Maria (mbowers@newnanfumc.org) with any questions!

Schedule for returning/dropping off gifts: Sunday

12/3: 9am-1pm; Friday 12/8: 9am-4pm; Saturday 12/9: 10am-12pm; Sunday 12/10: 9am-1pm ALL GIFTS due by 10am on Monday, 12/11! Gifts returned after then will need to be taken by the donor to the main drop off location! Contact me (770.253.7400x208 or mbowers@ newnanfumc.org) for additional information! On this Halloween, I wish you the treat of giving Joy to the World! -Maria

ULTIMATE "THANK YOU" Thank you to all the people who helped in any way to pull together our third ULTIMATE Event! What a blessing to see so many church members and friends laugh, be silly, eat great BBQ, play games, enjoy fried oreos, ride on the hayride, worship, assemble over 18,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now and fellowship together! And the offering of socks/underwear was wonderful! But ULTIMATE cannot happen without many hands helping with setup, running activities, and clean up. Special thanks to Sprayberry’s BBQ for once again catering a delicious dinner! Thanks, everyone!! -Karen Oothoudt, Program Director
