For to us a child is born, to us a son is given...and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” -Isaiah 9:2,6 For many people, Advent and Christmas are very difficult seasons of inner darkness. During this service, we will acknowledge the pain often experienced this time of year due to the death of a loved one, loneliness, anxiety or depression, chronich illness, unhealthy relationships, or by the overwhelming chaos and confusion of family gatherings and society’s consumer-driven focus. Please join us for a time of peace-filled worship, as we focus on Jesus Christ, the Light of the World. Childcare will be available.

LIFE LINE SCREENING December 20 | Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. SUICIDE AWARENESS SEMINAR Though scheduled before the tragic death of a beloved teenager in our community, this seminar is especially timely and necessary. It is open to the community and all adults and students are encouraged to attend. “ONE OOPS AWAY” SUICIDE AWARENESS COMMUNITY WORKSHOP Thursday, December 8 | 6:30-8pm | Sanctuary One Oops Away is an introduction to begin a community conversation toward building a culture of health. For many, certain events in life are taken in stride--losing a job, breaking up with a girlfriend, not getting in to your college of choice, etc. These events are treated much like spilled milk...Oops! One Oops Away helps participants clearly understand that for some others, that is not always the case. Workshop participants will: • Learn about the ways circumstances can lead to suicide • Gain awareness of the signs and risk associated with suicide • And discover the steps that can be taken to reduce the risk In Coweta County for 4 of the past 10 years, the suicide rate was higher than the national average. To learn more, visit OneOopsAway.com. Please make plans to attend and tell others about this opportunity.

PARENT VOLUNTEER CORE

It’s been said that every student needs five significant adult connections (beyond their family) in their lives to help them ground their faith and make it last for the long-haul. This could be a mentor, a Sunday School teacher, a family group leader or even the smiling face that hands a student pizza each week. To do this, we need your help as parents during our regular Sunday worship, local events and trips. You might also have some special skills that would be useful, such as photography, scrap-booking or painting. Putting all of our hands and gifts together will give us the chance to be as effective as possible in strengthening our student’s faith.
