ADVENT BOOKLET The Worship Ministry Team would like to publish our very own Advent Booklet this year. This Booklet would contain short devotions written by our own Newnan First members and will provide our members the opportunity for spiritual focus and renewal during the Advent Season. The devotion is based on faith and the preparation of Christ’s birth. It can be approximately 200-300 words based on your own reflections. It can include favorite scripture, poems, words to songs, etc. You may conclude with a short prayer that encourages your readers to respond to what you have written by lifting their hearts to God. In order for us to finish this project on time, we ask that you make your submission by Monday, November 7. If you have any questions or would like to submit a devotion for this booklet, please contact Susan Perkins (susanperkins5855@gmail.com) or Karen Oothoudt (koothoudt@newnanfumc.org). Thank you for your willingness to participate!

ELI LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY UTH FALL RETREAT

Retreats are opportunities to take a break from ordinary life and spend some dedicated time with God and your UTH family. They’re full of fun, activities, worship, family groups, and free-time. They are meant to allow students to recharge and refresh their souls and to place memories and spiritual markers in their lives. November 18-20, 2016 Ocoee Retreat Center, Ocoee, TN Cost: $85 | Sign up @ NewnanUTH.com

PARENT VOLUNTEER CORE

It’s been said that every student needs five significant adult connections (beyond their family) in their lives to help them ground their faith and make it last for the long-haul. This could be a mentor, a Sunday School teacher, a family group leader or even the smiling face that hands a student pizza each week. To do this, we need your help as parents during our regular Sunday worship, local events and trips. You might also have some special skills that would be useful, such as photography, scrap-booking or painting. Putting all of our hands and gifts together will give us the chance to be as effective as possible in strengthening our student’s faith. By registering your information online (NewnanUTH. com & click “For Parents” at the top), we’ll put you into a contact database to keep you regularly informed of ways that you can jump in and help. Thanks in advance for your willingness to join in this Kingdom work.

Last summer, our church had the opportunity to host a Glisson GROW Day Camp and see our children grow in their faith and walk with Christ. This camp is not possible without the amazing group of teenagers who served as Camp Counselors called ELI Staff. ELI is based on core values of experiential learning, practice, Christian community and service. As a leadership development program, ELI is designed specifically for current 10th and 11th graders who are ready to be self-reflective and to accept responsibility for elementary-aged children, who want to make a difference in the lives of others in Christian service, and who will benefit from gaining leadership experience before leaving home for college. Just as summer camp is guided by the understanding that faith can only be grown as it is practiced, ELI believes that leadership cannot be nurtured without the opportunity to lead. So after a week of leadership theory and skills training (Leadership Week), each participant will serve one or more weeks as a day camp counselor (Servant Leader Weeks) putting newly acquired skills to practice in a dynamic ministry setting. If you know of a teenager ready to grow their leadership, faith, and make a difference this coming summer, or just want more more information on applying and being a part of this awesome opportunity visit NGUMC.org/ELI or email Brooke Barksdale at bbarksdale@newnanfumc.org.

KIDS MISSION FOCUS IN SUNDAY SCHOOL I am so excited to announce that starting in November we will begin having a Kids Mission Focus as a part of our Sunday School lessons! This short time spent each Sunday will help our children learn to pray for and give to others as we continually try to live and love as Jesus did. Each week we will be encouraging children to bring a small monetary offering to class or Praise and Worship in the chapel with them. This offering will go towards local and international outreach with our Kids Mission Camp, taking place in the summer. In addition to a monetary offering, I am also asking that classes begin to encourage children to bring in items for next year’s packing of Operation Christmas Child boxes—done as a part of our Kids Mission Camp. Each month we will see which class can bring in the most of that item and the winning class will get breakfast from me! For the month of November, we will be collecting: Kids hats, scarves, and gloves! Thank you for your support of these offerings and ministries as we continue to teach our children about sharing the love of God with others! In Him, Brooke Barksdale
