“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” -Matthew 5:6

Please join us as we spend 30 minutes to worship and observe the Lord’s Supper together. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 6:30pm Sanctuary A new training class begins on Thursday, September 15 @ 6:30pm in Room 201, and will meet weekly for about 25 weeks. The training is rigorous, but life-changing. Even if you don’t feel called to serve as a Commissioned Stephen Minister, this training will aid you in becoming more effective and caring in your day-to-day interactions. Contact Rev. JoAn Kinrade (jkinrade@ newnanfumc.org) for more information and/ or to sign up. The last day to sign up is August 31st, so don’t wait! “I did not necessarily feel a “call” to Stephen Ministry. I signed up for the training because the class sounded interesting. Who among us could not use a little training about how to give loving, nonjudgmental, Christ-like care to those in need? The training sessions were marvelous. I learned a great deal about Christian caregiving. I learned how to minister to those in need through techniques for listening and caring. I learned a lot about what NOT to say. I feel like training taught me much about human nature, human dilemmas and connecting with others on a deeply spiritual level. The connection that I felt with my fellow trainees was much like that of being in Bible Study or Disciple Class. These folks quickly became my friends as we provided a great deal of support for one another. We laughed, cried, prayed and learned! I encourage all to sign up for Stephen Ministry training. God calls us to care for one another and to bear one another’s burdens. This training will show you just how to do that!” -Beth Royal

“The earnest, heartfelt, continued prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available--dynamic in its working.” -James 5:16 (AMP) Our church body will gather together to proclaim our faith and hope in Christ Jesus and to pray for our country and our friends and loved ones, who are experiencing physicial, emotional, and spiritual challenges.

NEW FALL STUDIES BEGINNING SOON! Let’s Talk, led by Dr. Stuart Greene, will resume regular meetings on Wednesday, August 17 at 6:30pm in Room 203. A complete listing of other studies will be available soon. Be watching for more information!

PASTORAL CARE BLOG Pastoral care is a facet of NFUMC’s ministry that encompasses life experiences and events. Look for information on a pastoral care blog that will contain articles and resource listings on various life issues. Proposed topics include caregiver and care receiver needs, depression, being part of the “sandwich” generation, healing, grief, suicide, holiday pressures, and what to do when God is silent. If there is a topic you would like to see addressed, please contact Maria at mbowers@newnanfumc.org or 770-253-7400 (x208).

STOP HUNGER NOW PACKING EVENT @ ULTIMATE

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that nearly 870 million people of the 7.2 billion people in the world, or one in eight, were suffering from chronic undernourishment in 2010-2012. 852 million people in developing countries alone are hungry. Children are the most visible victims of inadequate nutrition. Children who are poorly nourished suffer up to 160 days of illness each year. The task of trying to resolve the problem of hunger and poverty is by no means simple. It involves many structures and systems that may be difficult to influence or control, but as a church that follows Christ’s teachings, we have a responsibility to share the blessings that God has bestowed upon us! Did you know that for as little as 29 cents, a bag filled with rice, soy, and dried vegetables can feed a family? What can you get for 29 cents? You can help STOP HUNGER NOW! This year, instead of a stand-alone event, we are incorporating the annual SHN packing event into our ULTIMATE church events! You and your family are invited to participate in this church mission event for children, youth, and adults! Join us at the fairgrounds for ULTIMATE on August 28th! We will be packing 15,000 meals at 2:00 p.m. to help in the fight to STOP HUNGER NOW!!
