EDITOR’S NOTES

Love is Splendid Thing Our weddings issue is one of my favorite issues of the year. We usually have the opportunity to be surrounded by all things wedding, especially the gorgeous wedding dresses that we get to shoot. But this year, I decided to do something a little different. I’ve been a writer in the wedding industry for over seven years. In that time, I clearly understood that weddings are about brides. Period. I know that I shouldn’t say it. But it’s just the truth. When you go to Bridal Market, the primary emphasis is on wedding dresses. What’s hot and what’s not for that season. Jewelry, veils, and shoes are important. But wedding dresses rule. So I wanted to focus our summer weddings issue on the one person who takes a back seat to his lovely bride (or groom, if that’s the case)—the groom. So this is the Groom Takeover Issue. We spent quite a bit of time curating things that would be beneficial to grooms during this “interesting” but exciting time. So happy to have worked with Washington Wizard Chris Singleton and Bartender/Party Guy Kyle McNeely on our shoot with emerging brand Devlon Paris. They were good sports because it was hot. Not to mention how stunning Naomi looked in all of the Kim Elleen dresses in the Le Jeu de L’Amour. A special thanks to the Sugar Cube in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia for allowing us to crash their store for our photo shoot. I was also very happy to see the return of my favorite young bloggers, the Fashion Hauties. They are featured this issue, Boys Meet Girls, wearing emerging eco-fashion brand Amour Sans Anguish. I loved being surrounded by all of that beautiful lace. As usual, their pictures were stunning.

As always, we would love to hear what you think. If you’re a bride, let your groom take a peak through our pages. We had him in mind the whole time. If you know an emerging brand that you would like for us to consider, please email us at: emergingdesigner@faconmagazine.com. If you would like to send a Letter to the Editor, please shoot me an email at: editor@faconmagazine.com. Enjoy.

GROOMING ADVICE

Pampering Your Groom Do Something Special for the Man That You Love

Pampering Tips: From the Bride to the Groom Since forever, the wedding day has been geared towards the bride. But what about the groom? Men may not look ask to be pampered. But trust me, they want it and they too need some time to relax before the big day. 1. Make an appointment for his personal barber/stylist come to him Book his favorite barber or stylist to travel to him on the day before the wedding. Make a day of it for your groom and his boys. 2. Schedule a manicure and pedicure for you both Setup an appointment for the two of you to experience a manicure and pedicture together. It's truly the little momets that will count the most. 3. Book a couple’s message With all the stress that you will be under, you both will need to relax at some point. Leading up to the wedding, plan a day out and get a couple's massage. To spice things up a little, book a nice hotel room and have a masseuse come to you! 4. Grooming lessons Google grooming spas in your area, book a session and send him. 5. A Grooming Basket Grab all of his favorite grooming products and have them waiting in his room the night before the wedding.

Roosters Men Grooming Center The Manly Man's Place to Get Groomed

Just as women go to the hair salon or spa when they need a little “girl time,” men head straight to the barbershop. Almost every barbershop is set up exactly the same. However, through the years, men have started to look for a more grooming atmosphere where they can get a facial and haircut, all at once. Enter Roosters Men Grooming Center. The shop was opened by Master Barber Joe Grondin in 1999 in Michigan. Joe wanted to create the traditional grooming center where men could come and have the feeling of a traditional barbershop but experience high quality service. Joe believes that men deserve to have a space where they can relax while they get a haircut and a shave. Their stylists and barbers are skilled in classic and current techniques to ensure that you walk out of the door looking like a million bucks. Roosters offers services such as hair cuts, hair color and facials. This is the ultimate spa-like experience for guys. The great thing about Roosters is that there are location almost everywhere. Giving a Roosters gift card to the groom (or he can give to his groomsmen) would make a perfect gift. Get more information about Roosters, visit their web site at: roostersmgc.com

ART & LIFESTYLE

Editor’s Pick

Alexis Jackson, Art & Lifestyle Editor | @jadoreMADAV

Let's Get This Honeymoon Started! COOL PLACES TO SPEND YOUR FIRST DAYS AS MAN & WIFE Are you looking for that perfect exotic location? Something that's a little off the beaten path and totally untraditional? I love a good spot of uncharted territory with plenty of things to do or the choice to do nothing at all. It's your honeymoon. You should be doing exactly what you want to do. Here's a list of un-and-coming destinations that most married couples would not consider as standard honeymoon spots. Anyone can go to the white sand beaches of Aruba or take a cruise to the Bahamas or around the Eastern and western Caribbean. Take a chance to go somewhere different and amazing. Check out some of the most beautiful places in the world.

1. East Africa and the Seychelles If you are the adventurous couple who want to combine beaches with a safari, Kenya and the Seychelles are the places to be. Seychelles boasts some of the clearest water in the world while Kenya is known for the most endangered, exotic wildlife in all the world. Who doesn’t want to wake up and see a herd of gazelle or zebras from their honeymoon suite or watch the sunset over an oceanside where it looks like the world has no end.

42

Façon | Summer 2014

2. Rwanda and Mauritania To get the best for your buck, consider visiting more than one place on your honeymoon. In Rwanda, you can trek through the rainforest and see gorillas. Then you can spend the day by the beach in Mauritania. You can’t beat the varying landscapes for a oneof-a-kind honeymoon experience.

3. The Maldives The Maldives offer a more secluded experience. You can experience private fishing or watch the dolphins play in the water from your own private bungalow. Make memories in one of the most enchanting place around. The best part is that you can do so without the hustle and bustle of tourists.

Façon | Summer 2014

4. Ice Hotel, Jukkasj채rvi, Sweden Sweden is one of the most visited countries in the world. There are some amazing hotels there like the Tree Hotel where theywill build your own pod, suspended like a tree, specifically designed and furnished how you like. The newlyweds can also honeymoon in Sala where you can enjoy your honeymoon sipping champagne and lodging in caves that are 155 feet below the surface. However, the most iconic is the Ice Hotel. It is indescribable. If you can stand the freezing temperatures, you will be amazed. You wake up inside an all ice structure where your bed is covered with fur pelts. This wondrous work of nature is crafted to deliver a spectacle of ice.

5. Al Bustan Palace in Oman This luxurious hotel is located in the Middle Eastern country of Oman. Walk for miles across their pristine beaches. Take four-wheel drive tours through the mountains and desert or go to ancient marketplaces and barter for exotic wares the likes of which you've only seen in museums.

Seen enough? If not, there are quite a few places to get additional information on the best travel spots in the world. Check out the Travel Channel, Frommers, Lonely Planet, TripAdvisor, Travel & Leisure, National Geographic Traveler Magazine and Conde Nast Traveler.
