Al Bloemen
Bloemen verbeelden de zuivere uitdrukking van de liefde en de schoonheid. Ze zijn ook geschapen om te verleiden; in die functie voldoen bloemen al eeuwen aan ‘s mensens verwachting. Totdat iemand besluit aan de schoonheid van hun uitstraling nog een dimensie of twee toe te voegen. Hoe verhoudt de abstractie zich tot de schoonheid? En is schoonheid te meten? Kan men een geabstraheerde en gedigitaliseerde bloem wel laten toetreden tot het domein van de schepping? Of wordt een bloem, eenmaal teruggebracht tot delen van een geheel, de toegang tot het aards paradijs ontzegd? Hans Kuijs verbindt zijn levenslange fascinatie voor bloemen met zijn levenslange fascinatie voor het concrete. In zijn optiek is de computeranimatie van een levende bloem even zoveel waard als de bloem zelf. Een bloem ontmoet men wandelend in de natuur of in een vaas op tafel. Haar in een kader plaatsen, is wat de mens doet. Haar met rust laten ook. Of, zoals Hans doet, de bloem komt opnieuw tot leven, tegen de achtergrond van veel mathematiek en goed gekozen ruimte, die is opgedeeld in en veredeld tot secuur obscurantisme. Waarom een levende bloem plaatsen in het licht van een mathematische ruimte? Met lineaire precisie worden de bloemen onderdeel gemaakt van een goddelijk plan. Een universum laat zich zien en kennen. Een seriële toetreding tot het hogere doen de afbeeldingen vermoeden. Een poging wellicht om een oeroude fascinatie in een nieuw licht te zetten. Misschien een uitnodiging aan God om naar ons om te kijken. Of, als God niet meedoet, een uitgestrekte hand die verwelkomd wil worden, door een wereld die iets minder lelijk is, dan de wereld waarin we gedwongen zijn om te leven. Gewoon bloemen, Al Bloemen; hoe schoon heeft Hans ze verbeeld!

AI Flowers
Flowers represent the pure expression of love and beauty. They are also created to seduce; in this function, flowers have fulfilled human expectations for centuries. Until someone decides to add another dimension or two to the beauty of their appearance. How does abstraction relate to beauty? And can beauty be measured? Can an abstracted and digitized flower be allowed to enter the domain of creation? Or is a flower, once reduced to parts of a whole, denied access to the earthly paradise? Hans Kuijs connects his lifelong fascination for flowers with his lifelong fascination for the concrete. In his view, the computer animation of a living flower is just as valuable as the flower itself. One encounters a flower while walking in nature or in a vase on the table. Placing her in a frame is what humans do. Leave her alone too. Or, as Hans does, the flower comes to life again, against the background of a lot of mathematics and well-chosen space, which has been divided into and refined into precise obscurantism. Why place a living flower in the light of a mathematical space? With linear precision, the flowers are made part of a divine plan. A universe can be seen and known.
The images suggest a serial accession to the higher. An attempt perhaps to put an ancient fascination in a new light. Perhaps an invitation to God to look after us. Or, if God isn't involved, an outstretched hand that wants to be welcomed, by a world a little less ugly than the world we're forced to live in.
