Welcome N

ow that April’s mood dampening showers have gone away, it’s time to settle into some good old fashioned Spring-time-over-optimism about the weather, BBQs and shorts all round.

I

f your not quite ready to soak up the sun though, Hamilton House, as usual, is chock-full of things to do and see this May. Our in-house gallery is now fully-booked through to the summer, check out page 4 to see what exhibtions are on offer this month.. If you’re interested in volunteering & contributing to the overall development of Coexist, email: reception@coexistuk.org

F

ollowing from the success of our annual Wellbeing Festival last month, we’re holding onto momentum with the Wellbeing Outrech Crowdfunder, see page 13 for full details.

W

e’ve also got a host of new weekly courses and classes added to our ever-growing roster, check out page 8 to see what’s new.

Emmie Biervliet Artist of the Month Emmie is a mixed media artist whose inspiration comes from journeys, mystical stories and the bizarre sights she has encountered on her travels. Her work has a dreamlike quality and is often based on the transitory nature of buildings from its planning and construction to its ruins and structure revealed. She is interested in capturing how the lives of former inhabitants have permeated into the building. She exhibits regularly in the UK and internationally with shows in New York, Singapore and Hong Kong in the last year. To see more of Emmie’s work, stop by The Canteen May 1st-31st.

45’s (live from 9pm) This breezy-as-anything rock ‘n soul covers band has the honesty of a Nuggets-era beat combo with Mr Bobby Anderson on guitar, vocals and all round charisma. Canteen Jazz Session

An open jazz jam session led by saxophone hero Craig Crofton inviting seasoned players to join the house trio in exploring classic Jazz & Latin tunes.

12 Months of Summer Monthly showcase of the best acts from the acoustic scene pulled together by the sparkling Miss Rosina Buck (who is one such herself). Hopkins, Olinder & Perrett New Hammond-driven threesome, with the versatile Anders Olinder on the keyboards, Matt Hopkins on guitar and Toby Perrett keeping the grooves on drums.

Wormfood Ft. WSFB The only active P-Funk tribute band in the world gained the blessing of George Clinton himself, and they're doing their damnedest to ensure the party never ends.

Julia Turner Quartet Singer-songwriter Julia Turner started as a solo busker, but this quartet colours in the pictures of Julia's songs perfectly.

DeCyphers Hip Hop Session Guest MCs and musicians join the rhythm section of the ultrafunky DeCyphers collective for a monthly exploration of all things hip (and, indeed, hop).

with electric guitar and a host of guest musicians to whip up compelling trance-dance rhythms.

Neon Saints Brass Band The raw good-time energy of New Orleans brass band music got untied from its Mississippi roots and swam upstream in search of a hip-hop party via Brighton!

Lewis Clark & The Essentials There's a Smiths-ish drift to Keynsham's would-be popster Lewis Clark's vocals, albeit leaning more towards the swing end of the spectrum.

Henry Slim Blues Session When harmonica guru Henry 'Slimline' Slim blows that ol' harp you can be sure some of the best roots blues merchants in these parts will come a-runnin'. Weatherstorms Acoustic country rock'n'roll, with frontman James Cameron delivering footstomping beats and zooming slide guitar or picking out easy-paced backstreet crawlers. Chirimoya With a fearsome trio of dynamic jazzers to back her up, Latin-jazz outfit Chirimoya is another winner for the talented vocalist and percussionist Tammy Payne.

Canteen Jazz Session An open jazz jam session led by saxophone hero Craig Crofton inviting seasoned players to join the house trio in exploring classic Jazz & Latin tunes. Tom Fryer & James Graham There's a left field Americana thing going on here, as half of Three London Planes strip their sound to its acoustic roots with deft harmony vocals.
