t‘s an absolutely jam packed month at Hamilton House this September; not only is it our annual Open Weekend (see below) but we‘ve also got a wide and eclectic range of treats to keep you occupied all the way to October.

ellbeing and the Coexist Community Kitchen will be joining forces this month (and each month onwards) to combine two of their respective flagships: Yoga and Brunch. Expect tranquil and delicious results, flip to page 2 for details.

Kambo Frog Medicine: A Panacea Thurs 29th Sept, 7-8.15pm, FREE This talk will cover Dr Alex Pardhy’s journey, as a Western trained doctor still practising in A&E, into working with the Medicinal Frog Poison called Kambo. It helps those with chronic pain, depression and anxiety, recurrent infections, HIV and much more… This talk aims to be informational and advises people on the risks as well as benefits of working with it. It contains powerful purgative compounds and as such this medicine commands respect in how it is used. 3

Mondays 19th Sept - 24th Oct, 6.30pm - 8pm, £55 / Conc £45, A six week course on how to bring about the change you want to see in the world. Using embodied facilitation this course draws upon individual and group creativity, teaches campaign planning & strategy, and takes participants on a journey of how to organise a creative direct action.The course draws upon the skills and experience of CoResist facilitators, and is suitable for anyone interested in social and ecological justice. There are limited places on this course and pre-booking is highly recommended.

Merging myth, deities, science and a hefty amount of turtle, in a playful exploration of the beginnings of the universe.

This Changes Everything Thurs 22nd Sept, 6.45-9pm, £6/ Conc £4, This Changes Everything is an epic attempt to re-imagine the vast challenge of climate change. Directed by Avi Lewis, and inspired by Naomi Klein’s international non-fiction bestseller This Changes Everything, the film presents seven powerful portraits of communities on the front lines, from Montana’s Powder River Basin to the Alberta Tar Sands, from the coast of South India to Beijing and beyond. Jerusal em: Building Cultures 30th Aug-5th Sept; Opening night Fri 2nd Sept 6pm, FREE In February artist Mikey Jones travelled to The Holy city of Jerusalem to paint and document the day to day life of this historic city. After 11 days of sketching and painting, this exhibition brings together a collections of his works which explore an undercurrent of unrest in this divided city.

Prints Charming 13-19th Sept; Opening night Tues 13th Sept 6pm, FREE Prints Charming is an exhibition and silent auction curated by Siân Samuel and Clare Twomey, featuring the work of over 30 artists and illustrators. Produced on a theme of folklore and mythology, each A5 print is either a one-off piece or one of a limited print run. 100% of print sales will go towards helping Bristol-based art therapy charity, Art Refuge UK.

A lot of visitors come to Hamilton House feeling curious about what goes on behind all the closed doors. If you’ve ever wanted to stick you head into one of the artist studios, now’s your chance! Coming up on 10-11th September is our annual Open Day, an opportunity to explore the whole of the building and to experience the abundance of creativity that we are so proud to be a part of. You will get to meet some of the hundreds of talented painters, designers, cartoonists, sculptors and illustrators who are based here, see them in action and have a chat with them about their work. But that’s not all… We will also have a whole bunch of amazing talks and workshops from the likes of CoResist and the Misfits Theatre Company; taster sessions from our wonderful Wellbeing Rooms; a selection of dance classes to get your hearts a-racing; tasty and nutritious food from our Coexist Café; guided tours of the building; screenprinting workshops; a kids’ area and a programme of films made by groups based in the building. And if that’s not enough for you we’ve got a grand finale of body-popping, booty-shaking, breakdancing awesomeness from our partners Dmac, and an after party featuring live music, comedy, theatre and DJs to keep you night owls happy until the early hours.

Talks & Performances We’ve got a whole range of exciting and illuminating talks and workshops running throughout the day to keep your hearts open and your brains ticking.

Times are yet to be confirmed, keep an eye out for our programmed schedule of events, coming soon!

Students from City of Bristol College will be performing two thoughtprovoking monologues, produced on their Dance Theatre Performance course. Get an insight into meditation techniques with Aro Ling, a Buddhist school following the teachings of one of the oldest lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. Pop in to a theatre workshop run by Misfits, a theatre company run by and for people with learning difficulties. Bristol Refugee Rights will be hosting a space in which you will be able to hear from and put questions to refugees living in the city. Feeling a bit crafty? Artist Chris Hubley will be hosting a felt making workshop. Listen to an audio documentary produced by sound designer and producer Jake Wittlin, tracing the history of Coexist from its origins to the present day. Music Producer Epistrophe Smith will be setting up his unique installation, ‘Soundcog‘, delving into the world of Twitter to create music. Discover the history of the building and the Coexist project through a short film documentary. We also have four different performances from artist/activist collective CoResist, designed to bring out your inner child and get you thinking about the world around you.

Dance & Movement Every week Hamilton House offers a range of dance and movement classes, including African Dance, Capoeira, Salsa, Tango and everything in between. This is all thanks to the energy and vitality of Dmac - Dance Music Arts Collective - who are committed to keeping you moving and learning. This Open Day, DMAC will be performing all day on the decking outside the gallery and will be holding a series of taster classes to get you inspired. All taster sessions will be FREE of charge, so make sure to get most out of all the moving shaking DMAC has to offer!

Wellbeing Ever feel like you need to a break from the daily grind? Looking for a chance to take some time out, relax and re-centre yourself? Our Wellbeing Rooms on the fourth floor are designed for precisely that. Run by a dedicated team offering you a range of holistic therapies, massage treatments and more to keep you healthy, happy and grounded. Taster sessions of the various treatments will be happening throughout the day.

Artist Studios Once a year, the artists of Hamilton House throw their doors wide open, allowing you to wander round and immerse yourself in the huge pool of creativity that makes Bristol such a buzzing place. Come and meet your favourite artists, discover new ones, and stagger around in awe at the ridiculous amount of talent that we have here in the building.

Open Studios ExhibitIon As part of this year’s Open Day we are proud to present a unique exhibition showcasing the work of over 30 artists based in Hamilton House, featuring illustrations, paintings, etchings, cartoons, sculptures, textile design and animation. Come and discover their work in our gallery space and then get a chance to snoop around their studios and meet the artists!

Coexist Cafe Did you know we have a fully-equipped Community Kitchen up on the third floor? This Open Day, we’ll be running the Coexist Cafe, serving you tasty and nutritious meals cooked up by our kitchen team.

Coexist Cinema Want to get an insight into some of the various political and creative film projects based in the building? Drop by the Coexist Cinema, grab yourself some popcorn and take a look at a selection of some of the films made by the likes of Spaces of Dissent and the Meet the Roma project.

DMAC Finale And finally, don’t even think about missing the grand finale: a spectacle of dance, music and performance put on the by some of the finest talent in Bristol. Featuring African Dance, Drumming, Samba, Reggae, Salsa and more, this is DMAC doing what DMAC does best.
