Harrison Ford stars as Rick Deckard, a retired cop in Los Angeles circa 2019. L.A. has become a pan-cultural dystopia of corporate advertising, pollution and flying automobiles, as well as replicants, humanlike androids with short life spans. Adapted from Philip K Dick’s Do Andriod’s Dream of Electric Sheep.

Originally made for Liberty Films, one of the most popular and heartwarming films ever made by director Frank Capra. Capra regarded this film as his own personal favourite - it was also James Stewart’s favourite of all his feature films. A Christmas classic - can you hear an angel gaining their wings?

A terrifically light and funny work, packed with inventive designs, imaginative effects and striking choreography. The whole Company contributes to the fun, dancing such quirky characters as a twitchy White Rabbit, a tap dancing Mad Hatter and a sinuous caterpillar. Underpinning it all is Joby Talbot’s superlative, playful music - the first full-length score written for the Royal Ballet in 20 years.

James Levine returns to Wagner with a signature run of this epic comedy, back at the Met for the first time in eight years. James Morris and Michael Volle share the central role of Hans Sachs. Johan Botha reprises his indomitable Walther, and the elegant Annette Dasch is Eva.

Bolshoi: The Nutcracker

Berlin Philharmonic

Tchaikovsky’s magical Christmas ballet, stunningly choreographed for the Bolshoi by Yuri Grigorovich and broadcast live in HD. On Christmas Eve, Marie’s magician godfather Drosselmeyer gives her a nutcracker carved in the shape of a man. At midnight, when the celebrations are over, the toys magically spring to life. ‘The Nutcracker’ continues to enchant audiences young and old. This superlative version was choreographed by former Bolshoi Artistic Director Yuri Grigorovich and is magnificently interpreted by the company’s dancers.

The concert will open with Sir Simon Rattle conducting music by Jean-Philippe Rameau: a suite of instrumental pieces from the opéraballet Les Indes galantes show French baroque music at its finest. Following the intermission, the build-up to the new year will continue at a lively Slavic pace, with an orchestral suite from Zoltán Kodály’s charming folk opera Háry János as well as a selection from the popular Slavonic Dances by Antonín Dvořák.
