CHRISTMAS 2021 Dear Reader MILL HILL CHRISTMAS Last year Christmas was all but cancelled by the pandemic Government restrictions. We are hoping that 2021 will be a normal Christmas despite the latest news of Omicron Variant which was announced at the end of November. It is now nearly 6 months since Freedom Day and life is returning to normal for most. The dark days of the pandemic are behind us and to mark this the Memorial Wood has been planted in our lovely Mill Hill Park. For generations to come these last 2 years will be remembered through trees and our parkland. A fitting memorial. Please get in touch with your stories and thank you once again to all our advertisers. Please support them because they are supporting local news and keeping our voluntary operation going ! Mill Hill Today costs about £1,000 to run each year and it is covered by advertising and gifts. This is a very small amount of money and next year will be our 6th year of bringing the news and reviews to the area. FInally - please write for us. The Covid Memorial Wood for Barnet was planted over the last weekend in November.
Sadly we end the year with several units still not taken up. This is the current list, Nat West Bank Barclays Bank Santender Bank Layla Restaurant and the Charity Upworking unit where the butchers used to be has not opened since the pandemic. Lets hope that in 2022 all units on the main shopping street are taken.
TOP COMPOSER CECILIA McDOWELL ATTENDS LOCAL CONCERT The famous composer Cecila McDowell attended the return of Mill Hill’s excellent choral socierty in November - The London Pro Arte Choir (See reviews for more ) to hear her piece based on the Psalms. On Christmas Eve Cecilia has written this years new carol for the most famous carol service of all - The Nine Lessons at Kings College,Cambridge. This can be heard on Radio 4 at 3p,m on Christmas Eve ( and on Sounds app after ) It is fitting that we have a link to this special 9 Lessons here in Mill Hill. Cecilia’s work can be listened to on all streaming services and it is absolutely brilliant. She is a good friend to our local musicians and spent much time chatting to fans after the concert.
The local MP Matthew Offord and local schoolchildren started the planting on Friday and then the public continued on Saturday and Sunday. Although cold ( and wet on the Saturday ) it was a great historic occasion. See the photos below.

They also have the largest TWITTER account with over 5,000 followers. Follow these three accounts for up to date community news. They are all non political and have blocked trolls and unsafe users to make sure your experience is a good one. That is why they are the most popular with locals.
The 2022 Guide is coming out in March 2022 ready for a very special summer of events in the area as we celebrate several important local anniversaries and hopefully see Theatre in the Park return and a summer of music concerts from local ensembles. REVIEW OF NOVEMBER CONCERT BY THE LONDON PRO ARTE CHOIR The comeback concert after the lockdowns took places at St Michaels Church in fromt of a very sizeable crowd of eager music lovers. The Choir returned with a very suitable major item - the Durufle Requiem. In addition several pieces including one written especially for the choir by Cecilia McDowall - who attended the concert ! The Choir continued to show their ability in both the modern and the traditional works they sang. Each year under the direction of Tom Winpenny the choir blend and dynamics improve and as a friend told me - this is as good as the Wigmore Hall. He was especially impressed with the quality of the soloists and the organist. The Concert was low key with no interval or socialising but it was fantastic to once again see live music in Mill Hill. Please attend future concerts and support this wonderful choir.
Mendelssohn’s Elijah – sing with LPAC!! London Pro Arte Choir is inviting local singers to join with them to rehearse and perform Mendelssohn’s masterpiece, telling the story of the prophet Elijah. The choir is very much looking forward to a dramatic, yet meditative, performance of this music, depicting the triumph of determination in adversity, which perhaps has parallels today. The concert will be on Saturday 26 March 2022 at St. Michael’s Church, Mill Hill.
