HAPPY NEW DECADE New Year and New Opportunities By Millhillbroadway.com

The year 2019 will be remembered for the landslide election result and not much else. Locally we have seen few changes with our High Streets holding their own and with no major events to speak of. The previous decade has delivered huge improvement to the area as follows : Saracens coming to Copthall. This has brought huge benefits to the area and at last a world class sporting facility in the Borough. The fans have come and spent in the area helping many businesses survive the decade. In addition the club has gone from strength to strength on the pitch winning numerous trophies. The Mill Hill Neighbourhood Forum gave the area 5 years of new community initiatives. Their work has led to a Town Square which is now used by all groups as a local meeting place. They helped set up the NW7Hub to save the Library and worked with the Mayor of London to improve Salcombe Gardens and the Broadway shopping areas. Along with community initiatives and four years of regular festivals and markets the area finally had a non political organisation to provide for everyone from poor to rich in the area. Their contribution finished with the winning if Step Free Access millions for the Broadway Thameslink Station. The effects of these 5 years will last a 100 years. The 25 strong Committee and their Chairman during the 5 years can be rightly proud of the way in which they improved Mill Hill pulling it into the 21st Century. This site ( and this newspaper * ed) has always been forward looking and non political as well. Over the last 40 years the area has suffered from the “Mill Hill Moaners” who seek to take Mill Hill back to the 1970s or even 1950s as some sort of Golden Age. They oppose all development and all new fangled shops and businesses. This has held the area back but it is now clear that they may be a noisy minority but they have finally been sidelined with their old fashioned views. The future looks very bright indeed. Welcome theNew Decade

Mill Hill steps into the new decade with loads of high quality housing being built by the excellent Barratts London. A new growing

Mill Hill will see 10,000 new residents at least this decade. They will be forward looking and continue to change and improve the area. We won’t lose our beautiful green spaces or our sense of quiet community. The shouty political activists in the area have failed to connect with the people and trust in our MP and Councillors is at an all time high. They have delivered in the last 10 years huge improvements. The ballot box shows that the area is backing them. So in the coming decade we look forward to the new West Stand and its facilities at Allianz Park, the step free access at Thameslink with its increased services, and improvements to the areas infrastructure and more with the development of the brown field sites for housing. Hopefully, electric cars and other initiatives will calm down the increase in traffic we have seen in the last 40 years as well. Stay positive and remember its the fantastic people who make the area great to live in. We have low crime, beautiful green areas, quality shopping, caring community groups and improving infrastructure. Finally, get involved with the area by shopping, eating, and attending events and faith events locally as much as possible. Stay positive and we will see by 2030 a modern and even better Mill Hill for us all.

BARRATT LONDON COMMUNITY FUND INVITES APPLICANTS FOR CHARITY DONATIONS CHARITIES and community groups in Mill Hill are being invited to apply for a £1,000 donation from the UK’s largest housebuilder. The Barratt London Community Fund, part of the nationwide Barratt Homes and David Wilson Community Fund, has been set up to offer donations to both registered charities and community groups that are trying to make life better for local residents. Barratt London has been giving £1,000 every month to a local organisation that is improving the quality of life for those living in the vicinity of one of its developments or offices, across the capital. “We are looking for charities and community groups that are really making a difference at a local level,” explains Karly Williams, Regional Sales Director at Barratt London. “It could be a conservation group that wants to improve the local public spaces and create habitats for wildlife, a plan for a new piece of play equipment in a community playground, or a lunch club for the elderly wanting to expand – every application will be very carefully considered by senior members of our team.” Local groups and charities are encouraged to apply for the donation via Barratt London’s charity email address charity@barrattlondon.com. Applicants should make clear where their charity is based and what the £1,000 will be used for. One of Barratt London’s charity representatives will then be in touch if the application is successful. Karly Williams explained why Barratt Group launched the Community Fund: “As the country’s largest housebuilder we are committed to creating a positive legacy. As we move into the new decade, we want to lead the industry not just in the quality of the homes and developments we build but also in our work with charities and good causes throughout the UK.” The fund aims to donate £1 million to local good causes over the course of three years in addition to the considerable amount of charitable work already being undertaken by the company. Karly Williams added: “The Barratt London Community Fund has so far given us the opportunity to support numerous causes across London, including Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, Resources for Autism, Inspire Charity and Downs Syndrome Association. We are proud to support the work of these groups and recognise the important role they are playing in local communities.” Barratt London is currently building Ridgeway Views on The Ridgeway, Mill Hill, NW7 1AA. When completed, it will include 448 apartments with basement car parking levels, plus 12 spacious detached houses. The development will also offer excellent facilities including a residents’ gym, concierge service, play areas, fitness trail, communal viewing platform and landscaped green space with more than 4,000 trees. The housebuilder is also building Millbrook Park on Bittacy Hill, which will offer one, two, three and four-bedroom homes, including 345 new apartments and 10 new houses. Residents will also benefit from access to an on-site primary school, brand new parks, a public piazza and the Millbrook Plaza, which will house shops, offices and restaurants. For more information about Barratt London and to find your nearest development or local office, visit www.barrattlondon.com.

BARRATT LONDON ENCOURAGES MILL HILL PUPILS TO WALK TO SCHOOL PUPILS from St Pauls C of E Primary School in Mill Hill have received a donation of hi vis vests from local house builder Barratt London, which is building its nearby developments at Ridgeway Views and Millbrook Park in Mill Hill. Barratt London is encouraging the idea of walking safely to school and has donated 30 hi-vis vests to the school to help pupils be seen as darker nights draw in.

The hi vis vests were given to encourage pupils to walk to school rather than travelling by car. The idea is to reduce congestion on the roads, improve health and wellbeing and encourage sociability. A generation ago, 70% of pupils walked to school, but research suggests that this figure has now more than halved.*

Karly Williams, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Barratt London says: “By donating fluorescent hi-vis vests, we are encouraging parents, carers and pupils to walk, cycle or scoot to school in a much safer fashion. As well as being better for their health, it reduces the number of cars on the road, which can only be a positive thing. This is a timely donation given that the evenings are getting darker earlier and more parents may be tempted to jump in the car, even for short distances.”

Anthony David, Executive Headteacher at St Pauls C of E Primary School comments: “It is great to receive this donation of vests from Barratt London, which will hopefully help our pupils be more visible on our school trips around Mill Hill and London. We continue to do all we can to support our families and encourage our children to walk to school as often as possible.”

The high visibility vests have been donated thanks to Barratt London’s developments Ridgeway Views, on The Ridgeway and Millbrook Park on Bittacy Hill.

Ridgeway Views currently has two and three-bedroom apartments currently available with Help to Buy, as well as five-bedroom homes available to purchase, with prices starting from £535,000. One and two-bedroom apartments are currently available to purchase with Help to Buy as well as 4-bedroom homes launching soon at Millbrook Park, with prices starting from £378,000. MILL HILL RUGBY CLUB

by Our Sports Editor

HUGO WEBSTER

HUGE news – Club Development – Watch this space! At Mill Hill Rugby Club we are always looking to better ourselves, for our players, our members, and for the community around us. Over the 2018 summer we installed brand new windows and shutters which have brightened the club both literally and aesthetically, and along with the fresh paint job and new lighting on the inside we can defiantly be proud to show off our club house. However, this is nothing on what is to come… What we can tell you so far: We are looking to completely redevelop one half of the club house, creating amazing new facilities, that of a high-level club, with exceptional potential, not just for our members but for the wider community. Watch this space for future developments! (Excuse the pun) As for the professionals: Saracens kick off their premiership title defence on the 19th October at Allianz park – as always throughout the season we welcome all to come in to the club pre-post and for those without tickets, during the game! We’re also blessed this year with the rugby world cup taking place in Tokyo, Japan! Look over our social media for which games we’ll be showing as it is time-zone sensitive! In summary; plenty of new horizons, lots of rugby to be played and in many forms, and most importantly we welcome all of Mill Hill and wider community to join us in making our next season one of the greatest. We look forward to seeing you all soon. As always – All are welcome at Mill Hill Rugby Football Club!
