Welcome To the Anual Mill Hill Guide 2020 featuring the best of Mill Hill. Thank you first to John Gillett who has edited the past three guides and run the advertising for all his hard work in establishing the Guide as the definitive directory for the area and in doing so has helped businesses and organisations to get new customers and members. The Guide also wants to thank its advertisers and volunteer writers, designers and delivery team without whom it would not be possible to produce such a fantastic resource each year. With the end of the Neighbourhood Forum we have created an online website and Facebook page to build on this print and online guide. In 2022 we will also be extending the reach of the Guide for the Broadway anniversary. As always please get in touch with any corrections - additions - to advertise next year or to join the team. MILL HILL NEIGHBOURHOOD FORUM ABOUT MILL HILL NEIGHBOURHOOD FORUM From 2014 to 2019 the Mill Hill Neighbourhood Forum under the leadership of John Gillett made a huge difference to the lives of residents in the area. Linking together and encouraging the community to plan for the future by being involved in the present and in the decision making for the area. This will be seen as a Golden Time for the area - when many new initiatives were created via the Forum and other long running were given a fresh impetus. Achievements are many but these are our highlights : The Town Square on the Broadway : Created and fundraised for by the Forum bringing together Tesco - Barnet Council to create the first civic space in Mill Hill in its history. John Gillett will be remembered for this in the history of Mill Hill. Renewal of Salcombe Gardens Shopping : Bringing together The Mayor of London, Barnet Council and others to completely update this run down centre. A major improvement to the area. Partnership with Vibe Markets : Between the Forum and Vibe several excellent markets were held from 2015 to 2019 including several music festivals bringing to life the Broadway during the harshest recession in its history. This partnership saved the street from the worst effects and events attracted large crowds and community involvement. Fireworks Event re-established : The annual event which had stopped was restarted in partnership with Saracens RFC who now run it every year. A huge event attracting up to 7,000 people. Step Free Access at Mill Hill Broadway : Not yet achieved but John led a local consortium including the local MP Matthew Offord to pressure parliament and provide the evidence to gain a multi million pound grant for this much needed resource. Hopefully it will be be carried out within the next 5 years. There are many other things that the Forum achieved in its time including Festivals in Mill Hill East supporting the creation of the Garden at MHE Church, providing stories for Mill Hill Today, Baskets on the Broadway and editing the Mill Hill Guide for 3 editions. All of which have been huge sucesses. Thank you John and your dedicated committee for what you have achieved in your 5 years. They leave a Neighbourhood Plan 90% completeed which the council can complete if it so wishes as well which is also a tremendous achievement.

LONDON PRO ARTE CHOIR
London Pro Arte Choir is a friendly 60 member mixed voice choir based in Mill Hill and conducted by Tom Winpenny of St. Albans Cathedral. The choir sings major choral works and modern music to a high standard. They perform four concerts a year with professional musicians as well as a weekend in Europe. Mill Hill East Church - a family friendly community church which loves all it's neighbours. The church is active in the community with regular events to which all are welcome. It runs a Christmas Festival each December and has monthly music events in its Sail and Anchor Coffee Shop which is also open in the week for coffee and snacks and lunches see website for details.

MILL HILL ATTRACTIONS Mill HIll may not have a large population but it has some excellent attractions. Foremost is Belmont Childrens Farm which also has a nursery and is expanding its facilities this year. Check in the Village Section for contacts and the website. We also have the RAF Museum on our doorstep next to the railway lines which has new exhibitions and always has many family friendly activities which are mostly free. Those who like music and culture are also well looked after in Mill HIll. The Musical Theatre Company produces a major show each year as well as a patrons show and regular social events. The London Pro Arte Choir has 4 concerts a year with three in St Michaels this year and one in Edgware at St Lawrences - The Handel Church. Both groups welcome singers and actors and supporters. Get involved they are friendly groups. In terms of audience events there is the long running Mill HIll Jazz Club which has a concert every Wednesday at Mill Hill Golf Club and who present some of the best jazz artists in the UK and beyond as well as a regular jam night. A comedy club packs them in at the Adam and Eve pub on one Wednesday a month - get your tickets early to enjoy top class comedy in a wonderful setting. The Mill HIll Music Club continues its programme of classical music in Hampstead Garden Suburb at the Henrietta Barnett School where they present some of the biggest stars in classical music in a small hall. Finally the Good Companions Drama Group presents annual performances at John Keble - another long running local drama group. Finally the Big Time Productions ( Linked to the Dance and Drama School at the Library ) presents family friendly dramas - an annual pantomime - and much more at the Library and other venues. Mill HIlls dance and drama schools ( there are many ) are thriving and the area is a hotbed of talent.
