FRENCH MARKET ON NOV 1st/2nd LAST EVER ?

The amazing French Market that has been coming to Mill Hill since 2015 is arriving on the Broadway on Friday November 1st. This is the first day after the UK leaves the European Union. Therefore it will be great opportunity to celebrate and show our French friends and neighbours that we love their food - drink and products. On a more serious note - with trading between the two countries potentially having tariffs for a while then this is a last chance to buy French goods at amazing prices.

On a second serious note. The Markets were not well attended earlier this year. We have been informed by the organisers that this market may well be the last one. Please tell your neighbours, friends and post on Social Media about the Market. Together as a community we can make the best of Brexit and continue these fantastic markets on our High Street with our French friends. Mill Hill loves Europe and so we will be there on November 1st.

MILL HILL GUIDE 2020 The annual online/print Guide to the area is being prepared by a voluntary team of writers - photographers - delivery team - in order to promote the area. If you wish to advertise you have until October 10th to get your advert over to info@millhillguide.co.uk Please support the team and the area by advertising and supporting the advertisers whose ads fund the promotion for everyone.

info@millhillbroadway.co.uk ARTS | FEATURES | COMMUNITY NEWS |SPORTS | PROPERTY Welcome to our redesigned Mill Hill Today in purple and with fewer pages but still bringing you the latest news from our area. The whole of the media has been dominated by the Brexit Crisis and it effects us on November 1st with our French Market. This is a day when residents can come out and support our French neighbours and show that whatever happens we will still be good neighbours. During 2019 the Broadway and our businesses have had to work very hard just to stay in business. The footfall has been disappointing some months and the Markets have had a very hard time compared to previous years. They bring in extra thousands of people like the Rugby - but our shops and restaurants really rely on the residents to keep them in business. If any close it is usually because they are not being supported. If we want to see shops and restaurants rather than shuttered up buildings then we really do need to get out in the coming 4 months and support our local businesses. Without you they cant survive. So please visit our charity shops and recycle - eat and drink in our restaurants and cafes and buy your food and clothing as much as possible from our local shops rather than Amazon or travelling into the City, By doing this you protect OUR community. Our local shops, restaurants, spas, takeaways are some of the best in NW London. Lets show them some love this Autumn and Winter.

NEWS FROM MHMTCBy Farhat Dar Mill Hill Musical Theatre Company ARTS | FEATURES | COMMUNITY NEWS |SPORTS | PROPERTY

The great Oklahoma! ticket sale is on! Tickets went on sale on 1 September for MHMTC’s production of Oklahoma!, the all-time classic musical. And there’s a great offer the public can only get in September, with a special Early Bird Discount running through the whole month when tickets normally on sale for £13.50 will be available for just an amazing £10 each! It’s for performances on Wednesday 23, Thursday 24 and Saturday 26 October matinee. We think it’s a great offer – one of the greatest musicals of all-time brought to you by MHMTC’s talented amateur performers. If you don’t know about the musical, it’s one of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s earliest but best shows. Debuting on Brodway in 1943, it was a box office smash and ran for 2,212 performances. Although MHMTC is only staging the toe-tapping tour de force for just 5 performances, we will be putting as much time, energy and fun into the show that any theatre-goer could desire. Oklahoma! tells of the rollercoaster romance between cowboy Curly and farmer’s daughter Laurey, with some lovely heartfelt moments mixed with sinister plot twists. Throw in some USA history, as the region of Oklahoma strives to become a fully fledged state of the union, the tension between ranchers and farmers fighting for the land, and some truly wonderful songs (Oh, What A Beautiful Morning, Surrey With The Fringe On Top, I Can’t Say No, and Oklahoma!), and you’ve got a magnificent show that you do not want to miss! Get your tickets from www.ticketsource.co.uk/mhmtc, by emailing boxoffice@mhmtc.co.uk or calling the box office on 01923 269923. Oklahoma! runs from Wednesday 23 to Saturday 26 October 2019 at 7.30pm, with a Matinee on the Saturday at 2.30pm. Tickets for Friday and Saturday gala performances at 7.30pm are £15 (£13.50 for MHMTC Patrons). From 1 October, prices for the Wed, Thurs and Sat Matinee will be available for £13.50. Online via TicketSource (www.ticketsource.co.uk/MHMTC The show is being staged at Hartley Hall, Flower Lane, Mill Hill, London NW7 2JA.

Can YOU help name our next show? MHMTC’s next Patrons’ Party, being held on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 March 2020, will be a revue featuring songs from the outstanding repertoire of British musical legend Andrew Lloyd Webber! And we’d like Mill Hill Today readers to help us find a name for the show!

Featuring songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most famous musicals, from Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, Phantom Of The Opera to Aspects Of Love, Sunset Boulevard and School Of Rock, the possibilities are endless! One idea is Aspects Of Andrew Lloyd Webber! But if you think you can come up with something better, please let us know as soon as possible at info@mhmtc.co.uk!

And if you’d like to see the show, you must be a MHMTC Patron, as it’s a private party exclusively for our Patrons. To become a Patron, please contact James Bingham on email patrons@mhmtc.co.uk or call on 01923 269923.

ARTS | FEATURES | COMMUNITY NEWS |SPORTS | PROPERTY Make November the time for giving! Please come along and help support his great cause. There’ll be some great treats like home-made cakes, biscuits and savouries, plus lashings of tea, coffee and soft drinks! LOCAL SPORTS MILL HILL RUGBY CLUB

by Our Sports Editor

HUGO WEBSTER

Club News: A new season and bright beginnings! Mill Hill RFC would like to announce it has a new President! The honorary title has been passed from long serving Ian Webster to Robert Gillespie. As his predecessor, Rob has seen great Mill Hill RFC successes as a 1st team captain and is the director of the club’s main sponsor Comfort Controls. Now to the rugby! With the 1st XV having secured promotion into Herts/Middlesex League 1 last season we enter a tough league with the likes of Saracens Amateurs, Wasps Amateurs, and London Scottish to name a few. More games at a greater level motivates us to put Mill Hill back on the serious rugby playing map! The 2nd XV having finished in 3rd last season remain in Herts Merit League 5, which has grown with additional tougher opponents. Mixed touch rugby, men & women of all ages, will continue on Friday nights at Mill Hill RFC this season with some sessions taking place at Allianz Park the home of Saracens – A few tournaments & tour is on the cards for the touch guys. We hope to really put Mill Hill on the sporting map and offer something for absolutely everyone to come and enjoy.

The 1st spectacle we have for the community to tuck into is Mill Hill RFC hosting our first ever Project Rugby festival! Time & Date – 21/09/19 – 10am-1pm At Mill Hill Rugby Club. Mixed disability rugby teams from near and far will be participating in this fantastic even from rugby really is for all. The Project Rugby team’s epic news does not stop there! A called film ‘Ruck it’ was debuted at the London City Film awards on the 24th of August and creators Tanjun Media took home the prize for best short documentary. Details will soon be announced on when this will become available for wider viewing.

Speaking of awards; Mill Hill RFC were incredible proud of our 1st team Prop Joey Healy and Project Rugby coach extraordinaire on his nomination of volunteer of the year at the Guinness National Rugby Awards. Not only did he receive a nomination but made it to the final few at an award ceremony held at ‘HQ’ the home of English rugby, Twickenham. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a win on the night however we’re sure great things are on the horizon for Joey. And that next horizon is in the not too distant future! Both Joey Healy and John ‘Bash’ Gilbert, front row props, have set themselves the target of running the 2020 London Marathon on behalf of Team Mencap. They aim to raise £4000 for the MenCap charity, Barnet Mencap being one of our chosen club charities which ties into our project rugby team. More details and how to donate can be found via our Twitter & Facebook. Over the season we’ll be holding fundraising events to which we implore our friends and neighbours to come along to and support.

HUGE news – Club Development – Watch this space! At Mill Hill Rugby Club we are always looking to better ourselves, for our players, our members, and for the community around us. Over the 2018 summer we installed brand new windows and shutters which have brightened the club both literally and aesthetically, and along with the fresh paint job and new lighting on the inside we can defiantly be proud to show off our club house. However, this is nothing on what is to come… What we can tell you so far: We are looking to completely redevelop one half of the club house, creating amazing new facilities, that of a high-level club, with exceptional potential, not just for our members but for the wider community. Watch this space for future developments! (Excuse the pun) As for the professionals: Saracens kick off their premiership title defence on the 19th October at Allianz park – as always throughout the season we welcome all to come in to the club pre-post and for those without tickets, during the game! We’re also blessed this year with the rugby world cup taking place in Tokyo, Japan! Look over our social media for which games we’ll be showing as it is time-zone sensitive! In summary; plenty of new horizons, lots of rugby to be played and in many forms, and most importantly we welcome all of Mill Hill and wider community to join us in making our next season one of the greatest. We look forward to seeing you all soon. As always – All are welcome at Mill Hill Rugby Football Club!
