WHO WE ARE 6

TRINITY WESTERN UNIVERSITY

MISSION The mission of Trinity Western University, as an arm of the Church, is to develop godly Christian leaders: positive, goal-oriented university graduates with thoroughly Christian minds; growing disciples of Jesus Christ who glorify God through fulfilling the Great Commission, serving God and people in the various marketplaces of life.

VISION Every graduate is equipped to think truthfully, act justly, and live faithfully for the good of the world and the glory of God.

Since our first days in 1962, Trinity Western has held a unique vision for delivering an academically excellent liberal arts and sciences education within the context of a Christ-centered community. We have grown to become the largest faith-based university in Canada and one of North America’s premier Christian universities, offering a full range of undergraduate degrees (44) and graduate degrees (19), as well as professional schools in nursing, education, clinical psychology, and business. What we are most proud of is our diverse alumni community—who, in all walks of life, are the embodiment of our mission as they positively impact the lives and communities they serve. We are driven by a deep desire to equip you to find and fulfill your purpose, by helping you discover your passion and develop it into a profession—so you, too, can live a fulfilling life of positive impact and meaning.

“The purpose of a university education is to question and to think. But to be able to do that within a faith structure, in a supportive environment, is very empowering for students.” Holly Faith Nelson, PhD Department Chair and Professor, English

CATHOLIC INTELLECTUAL FORMATION

TRINITY WESTERN UNIVERSITY

CATHOLIC INTELLECTUAL FORMATION Catholic Pacific College provides students with a unique environment where they can be formed intellectually and sacramentally as Catholics while at the same time engage in ecumenical dialogue. CPC offers the Catholic Formation Track (CFT) of the TWU Core Curriculum, which introduces students to the richness of the Catholic intellectual tradition and engages with fundamental questions that pertain to all aspects of life, enabling students to make informed choices about faith, relationships, vocation, and careers. Students can complete the CFT while earning a degree in one of the 44 undergraduate majors offered by TWU. This formation is endorsed by the Archbishop of Vancouver, J. Michael Miller: “Catholic Pacific College is a genuine Catholic college. CPC’s unique relationship with an evangelical university promotes dialogue regarding the shared mission of bringing Christ and His gospel to the world. At CPC, students experience an outstanding Catholic formation while preparing for a wide variety of careers.” Because of this strong Catholic formation, CPC is one of only two Catholic post-secondary institutions in Canada listed in The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College. ALUMNI FEATURE 38

TRINITY WESTERN UNIVERSITY

WHERE WILL YOUR JOURNEY LEAD? For Mowa Adeleye (’19), sport was always a passion, but in her four years at Trinity Western University, she discovered it could also be a platform. The Spartans track and field star, who finished her career with two U SPORTS medals and four Canada West medals in triple jump, deepened her faith while at TWU. At Trinity Western, Mowa learned how to connect the pursuit of excellence and personal faith in Christ. “Coming here and delving into the Word of God allowed me to realize how much freedom I have because I’m loved by God. My value as a person was previously based on my result on the track. But who you are as a person is what’s important. That gave me so much freedom to enjoy the sport and do it for God’s glory and to allow people to maybe even get curious about God through what I’m doing and what my teammates are doing.” Now, having graduated from TWU with Great Distinction holding a degree in biology and chemistry, Mowa plans to become a doctor and, with a compassionate heart, has a deep desire to serve in vulnerable and disadvantaged communities. “I’m really passionate about showing people they are loved by God; and because they are loved by God, they have the freedom to be unapologetically themselves.”

I’m also grateful for their multidisciplinary and liberal arts mandate—which helped when I had to write professional documents for grant submissions or come up with tentative legal agreements in launching the video game.” Kevin Harwood Creative Director & Producer, “The Station” video game BBA (’13)

“At Trinity Western, I had the opportunity to learn the art of nursing in an environment that recognizes people and patients as more than merely physical beings. I was supported and encouraged to pursue my passions for both nursing and global health and given a solid foundation on which to base my nursing career and vocation.” Kalisse Barwich Registered Nurse MSN (’17)

“Trinity Western’s lab environment is fantastic. I think that’s what most prepared me for being a researcher. My professors taught me to think like a researcher, to work in a lab, and to think about science in a broader fashion.” William Sikkema PhD candidate BSc Biotechnology & Chemistry (’14)

“My time at TWU was beyond remarkable! I have witnessed how the benefits I reaped from my undergraduate studies are becoming more and more tangible the deeper I get into my field of work. Since graduating from the Kinesiology program, I have been supported and encouraged by the amazing community of professors, peers, and staff towards my future career. I can say, undoubtedly, that I wouldn’t be where I am now without the blessing of studying at Trinity Western University.” Amy Saya BHK (’20)

“TWU has shown me an example of what a good, nurturing community looks like and how meaningful intercultural relationships grow one another. Student leader experiences to develop and bridge communities of different cultures helped me discover my passion for empowering communities of diversity. Being the Small Groups Intern in Student Life the following year after graduation, I can surely say that time in TWU led me to unexpected yet valuable opportunities.” Florence Song BA (’19)
