ACCOUNTING

Do you love numbers? Professional accountants are foundational to the success of a company. Whether you want to become a small business owner, CEO, or CFO, your career choices extend into all sectors. This specialization prepares you for the CPA designation.

FINANCE OR FINANCIAL PLANNING

Good advisors know how and when to invest which business resources. All corporate ventures and personal investments are looking for money-savvy professionals with financial expertise. Possible careers include being a corporate controller, financial analyst, insurance agent, real estate investor, or small business owner. This specialization prepares you for a CFA or CFP professional designation.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Even with all the technologies available today, people are still critical to an organization’s success. Companies need to do an excellent job recruiting, engaging, developing, and retaining their people to achieve their goals. Possible careers include management, human resources, or industrial relations. This specialization prepares you for a CPHR designation.

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

All businesses, no matter how small or how large, are part of a global marketplace. The products and services delivered by an organization in one country are directly affected by the economic,

political, and social environments of other countries. This specialization will equip you as future business owners and managers to make informed decisions about your organization’s mission, responsibility, and contribution to a global, competitive marketplace.

LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT

Without leadership and management, business wouldn’t be possible. Corporations and government agencies value professionals who understand the bigger picture, are passionate about it, and know how to lead teams toward it. This specialization provides you with the tools to successfully manage a business. You’ll learn how to motivate employees, resolve conflicts, set goals, communicate effectively, and lead ethically.

MARKETING

Marketing blends research, strategy, creativity, design, and communications to represent and promote an organization. It is essential to an organization’s identity, growth, and success. From lectures to hands-on projects, this specialization will equip you for product line management, media strategy, digital marketing, and more. You’ll be ready to take on various roles in a marketing department that values collaboration and good business ethics.

BIOTECHNOLOGY & BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Students interested in biotechnology and business can pursue an interdisciplinary BSc degree with a concentration in biotechnology and a minor in business administration. With a biotechnology degree, students gain the knowledge, expertise, ethical framework, and contacts necessary to achieve a successful career in the life sciences.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Corporations and government agencies value professionals who understand the bigger picture, are passionate about it, and know how to lead teams toward it. This specialization provides you with the tools to successfully manage a business. You’ll learn how to motivate employees, resolve conflicts, set goals, communicate effectively, and lead ethically.

CORPORATE COMMUNICATION

We equip leaders with an in-depth understanding of marketing, public relations, writing, speaking, and media. Because you will learn to develop personal and corporate ethics, the stories you tell will stand out for their integrity and authenticity—that’s the TWU difference. SPORT MANAGEMENT

The demand for business professionals in the athletic world continues to grow as our society becomes more intentional about physical fitness and active lifestyles. Choose between a Bachelor of Human Kinetics (BHK) with a sport management stream or a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Sport Management. In this specialization, you have the opportunity to complete an internship with an organization such as Athletes in Action, the BC Lions, Langley Sportsplex, the Vancouver Canucks, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, or the Vancouver Giants.

MENTOR PROGRAM

During your third and/or fourth year in the business program, you’ll be mentored by a senior manager or business owner. STUDENT CONSULTING PROJECTS

In many of your specialization classes, you can work on real projects in real time that have been specifically designed to help local managers and owners better manage their businesses. You can also create a class around a specific project or topic you’re personally interested in.

STUDENT BUSINESS ASSOCIATION (SBA)

The SBA conducts social and educational events throughout the year. Connect with your peers, course material, professors, and the external marketplace.

TRINITY ACCOUNTING ASSOCIATION (TAA)

The TAA is a group of TWU accounting students who create networking opportunities and support one another as they prepare for the CPA designation. They host events to engage students studying accounting or considering entering the profession. The TAA also supports students who are trying to figure out whether accounting may fit into their career path.

STUDENT-MANAGED INVESTMENT FUND (SMIF)

The SMIF aims to provide you with hands-on experience in equity valuation and investment by using endowed funds to invest in the stock and bond markets. Since the School of Business is always striving to make a difference beyond the walls of TWU, profits earned within the fund will be allocated to specified charities and projects.

YOUNG WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP (YWIL)

The YWiL is a community nurturing women leaders, business professionals, and entrepreneurs. Led by women from multiple faculties, YWiL seeks to encourage and empower women to embrace their strengths, push through challenges, and grow as leaders. They provide career resources, networking opportunities, and workshops to their members, as well as annual conferences open to the business community.

LAURENTIAN LEADERSHIP CENTRE LAW IN OTTAWA

Spend a semester at the Laurentian Leadership Centre (LLC), a live-in extension program in the heart of Ottawa. There is no other program in Canada that offers the same access to a variety of elite Ottawa internships in politics and NGOs. You’ll gain unparalleled work experience, take three upper-level courses, and enjoy community living in a historic mansion.

On this exciting law trip to Ottawa, you will get to stay in the historic Laurentian Leadership Centre. You will visit numerous legal sites around the nation’s capital, including the Supreme Court of Canada, Parliament, and the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. You’ll also explore numerous cultural sites and will likely have a two-day excursion to historic Quebec City and a wind-up dinner cruise—the Kingston 1000 Island Cruise.

TRAVEL STUDIES EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

During May of your second, third, or fourth year, you can participate in a travel study. Complete some of your core business and specialization courses while visiting corporate headquarters in Europe or Asia. If you are interested in these opportunities, speak to your academic advisor to add these trips to your academic plan.

The School of Business has exchange opportunities with business schools in Austria, France, the Netherlands, and Germany. Undergraduate programs admission requirements

• Graduation from high school or equivalent with a university preparatory program

• 70% average in English 12 (or equivalent) and the required Grade 12 academic courses

MBA Admission requirements

• Personal statement

• Transcripts (GPA over 3.0 in the last two years of study)

EMBA Admission requirements

• Students not meeting the required number of courses or GPA will be considered on a case-by-case basis
