Editor’s Note

The past few months spent editing this magazine have been some of the brightest. I relished every step of the process from talking to new people to collecting quotes to spending innumerable golden hours working on the magazine. I want to express my appreciation for the work the entire team has put into creating the magazine. It would not have been possible without them. Bravo to each and every one of the contributors to the magazine. This magazine is a representation of the lives of the students here at TISB because it is the students who make a school what it is. To all the Trojans out there, I hope you like it <3

I never knew that creating this magazine and bringing everything together could bring so much happiness to me and teach me so much. Spending countless hours gathering quotes, nights working on the aesthetics and days selecting the right pictures, I hope that this magazinetrulyrepresentssomeofourbestdaysinTISB. SPORTS DAY 2022

DECEMBER 9TH 2022

When we students think of ‘Sports Day’, we think of it as more than just an annual event which briskly passes by, only dedicated to sports. Sports day is a festival each year, like Holi which brings along hues of blue, yellow, green, and red, and paints us in team spirit, health, and thrill- everything a student's life stands for and represents!

You won’t be able to spot a single student without house paint on their cheeks, pompoms of their house colour or bands of their house, roaming around with posters and placards for their house

For every student, new and old, this experience is a special feeling , a memory which remains in the corridors of their mind, a memory which officially makes them a student of TISB.

It is the day that colours dominate our campus and our hearts Each one cheering for their own, its a day where each house is united not as a school but as a family.

It is the day when we welcome and embrace everyone (as long as they are wearing the same coloured Tshirt as you) Students not only get to take part in the sporting events, but they can also watch from the sidelines cheering for their house and engaging with people they wouldn't normally talk to.

Everyone gives sports day their everything, whether it's painting tents or just showing up for their housemates 1 week of preparation, 2 heats of selections and the anticipation and tension of final sports day ALL for the results announced at the end of the day The sound of your house being announced as winner is unrivalled (or so I've heard)

The entire day was painted yellow: the sun, the winners, and the glory. Sure, there was some rivalry with voyagers, and the discoverers kept smearing yellow onto everyone and were ready to fight every minute on how they deserved the trophy But yellow burst out onto the cricket Pavilion as the Discoverers were announced winners of the sports cup and it was an unforgettable sight They won the sports day and the sports cup They won the battle and came through.

"Dear all who came 2nd, 3rd and 4th and will waffle about our drill and March past - cry more your tears fuel me. "

"Being a discoverer and talking about this day is like an ego battle. We probably had the worst possible day to have a sports day on. “Bring a cap ” , “Make sure you ’ re not dehydrated by the glaring rays of the sun ” Sun who? It was as non-existent as RCB’s trophy cabinet. But it was fun to represent my house and win them some points in certain track and field events. "

VERERS

"Sports day was amazing! We had the times of our lives and that remains the most valuable to me. Bearing through all the drill practices, and watching seniors putting their heart and soul into the preparation – everything has culminated into beautiful memories. As I heard the teachers say "And in the first place we have Discoverers" I wanted to throw my colours up towards the sky once again. This day and this moment are one of my proudest. I can’t wait for sports day 2023!"

-Niya Angel Tom

"II looked like an alien, covered in yellow paint from head to toe! The meant to be winners discoverers won which was great!"

-KaashviSomani

"Arguably one of the most exciting and fun-packed weeks I've had in Tisb. From coordinatin h organizing props

Not only did red take over the field, but also conquered it as the pioneers performed their drill. They surely bleed red. First, in drill, their props truly stunned us all. One of the most creative drills seen out there!

"House spirit and rivalry, both came to head on sports day Ever since grade 9 I’ve been waiting to lead my house, and I am so glad we got the chance of conducting it offline Thanks to all the sports teachers for coordinating such an outstanding event and to our juniours for the constant support and encouragement"

"It was the best week of my time at TISB From painting the shamianah, to vibing to Punjabi music, to spying on other houses, I had too much fun The highlight of the week was teaching the drill dance to the juniors and invigilating march past practice with the most mischievous seniors Hopefully, this year passes quickly so that we can relive these memories one more time Bigger trophy next year lessgo pioneers!"

"Magic was in the air on the 9th of December 2022."

EERS

"Hoarse voices, sunburnt noses, sore legs - at the end of it all we stood number 1. The drill was ours. With the best choreography, song choices and students we proved that our swag was ‘wakhra’ From practicing at midnight between our EOTs to making wristbands using GIH’s counterpanes a night before sports day, we did it all. That rush of serotonin as “My Baby Shot Me Down” started playing is something we all wish to relive As the beat dropped on circles, we managed to paint the cricket pavilion red at the last second The undying house spirit and celebratory cheers is what marked the end to this unforgettable day. Now, whenever any of us Pioneers listen to any of these songs, a wave of nostalgia sweeps us all into one of the most unsurpassed, eventful day of our lives"

"After a long wait of 2 years due to Covid, sports day was back! It was wonderful to see the house spirit and competitive nature that this day never fails to bring out in everyone As a division B house captain, I felt pride leading the 9th and 10th graders Although we didn’t win, we all created memories that we will forever cherish"

"Solidarity The mass of green came together, synchronized, with one common goal

Anticipation The clouds were so captivated by the amazing drill displays and intense races that they did not want to leave Pride The medals adorning my neck spoke for themselves

Butterflies The sandwich I had for lunch did not sit well

Elation Unexpectedly winning marching band and tent decoration was a welcome victory Denial. Explorers drill will always be the best.

Exhilaration Running that final victory lap with the entire grade 12 will be a memory I cherish forever Let's go Explorers!!!"

‘Udtaa Punjab’ was stuck in everyone’s heads after their performance. Sure they didn’t win the drill, but they rocked it with their energy The formations awed everyone and even the marchpast.

LETS GOEXPO!!!

Sports Day was the perfect way for me to meet people who I hadn’t engaged with before. Being a student who joined in 11th grade, Sports Day not only gave me the opportunity to work with people from my own grade for one final time but it also helped me get to know some super talented juniors All in all, it was a wholesome experience being able to do what I love with the people I love

Sports day is without doubt the most exhilarating day of the academic year. 70 students, only three days, and 5 songs. The funny thing is, even though it appears stressful from the outside, in reality it really wasn’t. We really worked as a team and the friends that I made became through that, at the end of the day, became much more valuable than winning the trophy To our drill team in explorers, nothing can explain the love we have for you, kill it next year!

"Sports day '23 was a highly anticipated event. It was not only thrilling but also overwhelming with high doses of excitement. For the rest of us, not only was it nostalgic but also gave us a new sense of responsibility, being seniors now From a division house captain's viewpoint, there was a competitive spirit on display amongst all the students. It was a great day of camaraderie with rivalry, exhaustion with fun, and loads of cheering with a bit of disappointment Overall, a great experience in making new friends, learning & memories to cherish "

"I was a part of the march parade. Me being a division captain, its understood that I had way more responsibilities but since we had the most playful and chill seniors, all the pressure just flew away Even though we did not win this sports day, it still managed to be one of the best days of my life. LETSSSSGO EXPO!!!!!!!!!!"

page10

They bleed blue, and they win too! Sure they didn’t win the sports events but they won both March past and drill after overwhelmingly long practices under the sun. Threatening the drill students that they’d be sent with him to march past and do ‘ left right left’ for the rest of their week if they didn’t perform well. Well, it surely worked! Kudos to the leaders

"Voyagers were so far ahead in the Overall House Cup title race that Mr Tarun asked me to be a W mans and let the other houses have at least a Sports Day win However, my ego is too big to not leave my mark (VIVUM ’22 innit), so we won both drill and march past, yes, that’s two trophies, thanks to the dedication from all the juniors and teachers Other than winning two trophies, I was vibing, rizzing it up, and taking pics We had a drum and screamed through each race, most of us losing our voices by the time the winners of the two trophies were announced (it was us btw) Interhouse events like these remind me that TISB is one large family, always there to support one another in the spirit of sport. So, you may ask, what were the final standings of Sports Day? I can’t really remember; did I mention we won two trophies though? THEY DIDN’T BELIEVE IN US, GOD DID!!!! "

Bullying can be a complex behaviour influenced by various factors, including low self-esteem. In some cases, individuals who bully others may have low self-esteem and may use bullying as a way to feel better about themselves.

When a person has low self-esteem, they may feel inadequate, powerless, or insecure. To compensate for these feelings, they may engage in behaviours such as bullying to gain a sense of power, control, or superiority over others. By putting others down, they may feel a temporary boost in their self-esteem.

However, it's important to note that not all individuals who bully others have low self-esteem, and not all individuals with low self-esteem engage in bullying behaviours Various other factors can contribute to bullying, such as social dynamics, family environment, cultural norms, and individual personality traits.

Furthermore, it's essential to address the underlying issues that contribute to bullying behaviour, including low selfesteem, through effective interventions such as therapy, counselling, and support groups. Addressing low selfesteem can help individuals develop healthier ways to feel good about themselves and interact with others positively

MENTALHEALTHMATTERS -DILLISHAKUNDER

"I found that, with depression, one of the most important things you could realise is that you're not alone. You're not the first to go through it; you're not going to be the last to go through it " -THE ROCK

We've all probably noticed the thoughtless and frequent usage of the phrase "mental health matters" because we live in the twenty-first century. This statement is considerably deeper than it first appears to be.

One in five individuals between the ages of 13 and 18 will experience at least one sort of mental illness throughout their lifetime. One can easily underestimate how important mental wellness is. Sudden, significant mood swings, changes in diet, excessive concern or dread, concentrating on problems for an extended period, and avoiding friends or social activities are all common signs and symptoms of mental health disorders.

It's important to look after your physical and emotional well-being. Communicate more Discuss your issues with your friends, family, and/or teachers Avoid harmful substances and behaviours, and be sure you keep busy with things you enjoy! It is okay to NOT be okay

We started the club to meet and interact with like minded students. Every meeting We learn a new thing. We guide younger students through various logical puzzles similar to how they do me, sometimes. SportsTalk club

A fun and casual yet informative atmosphere, this is the goal Sachin and Aaryan had when we decided to start the sports talk club.We keep our members engaged by several ice breakers and fun debates on controversial topics, Messi or Ronaldo, 2019 Cricket World Cup and many more. To keep the pressure on participants low, we do more fun learning than content heavy information We learn about many vast topics like sportsmanship, gamesmanship, ethics and fitness.

Have you ever looked up at the sky and wondered how all of it works? After all, we are curious species that strive for a deeper understanding of the world around us, and at Astro Club, we aim to fulfil this through a slightly different approach We make youtube videos! Most sessions are filled with tours around the campus as we shoot different segments and experiment with new ideas to find the best approach to a slightly technical topic, whether it be time dilation, exoplanets, or wormholes

Lumières Club

At Spectrum, we want to make sure that every student and staff member feels comfortable expressing their identity here at TISB By discussing issues prevalent in local society, we aim to transform the school community. During our weekly club meetings we have been talking about important themes such as LGBTQ+ in Indian mythology, rainbow washing, queer baiting and more. Our primary course of action consists of planning of LGBTQ+ inclusive events to create more awareness about LGBTQ+ issues and to combat any harmful stereotypes. Remember: It is not fun or cool to use 'gay' or 'lesbian’ (amongst others) as an insult; regardless of one's orientation. Be kind!

Intertwining the concepts of politics, philosophy, and history, the Lumières club is a brilliant platform to, well, nerd. We discuss events - past and present - and some of the topics we covered in the first term include the war in Ukraine, what is freedom, India’s ambivalence in regard to the War It is imperative to make sense of the past, to comprehend the present, and elucidate the future. And don’t worry; this is a jargon-free environment. Room 314, every Wednesday!

ETHNIC DAY

TISB is well-acclaimed for the diversity among its pupils and staff, which is what makes it a melting pot of traditions and cultures- interknit and united through education.

Ethnic day was held on November 14th to celebrate various cultures and ethnic identities. Once again the students of TISB did not fail to display their heritage through a splash of colours and clothing, whether it be ‘Gulaabi’ lehenga cholis, ‘Peele’ churidar, ‘Neele’ salwar kameez, saffron saris, ‘Safed’ sherwanis, or our favourite lungis

Some divas even went all out with bindis and churi to give the entire filmy Bollywood actress look! Even kimonos, yukatas, hanbok and Manchu-style dresses from other Asian countries stole the show.

Most of all, this special day vividly displayed the culmination of thoughts, ideologies, opinions, and cultural identities in our school- and how we cherish it!

page30

CHILDREN'S DAY

November14th,2022

Children’s day in TISB was an absolute blast! It proved to several new and old TISB students that our teachers could put up quite the show, and how much they genuinely care about us

It took the saying “a teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart” up a notch! To the boarders' extreme joy, we were surprised by a special menu of cheese bread rolls, veg biryani, hazelnut mousse cake – and not to forget, the jalebis were to die for.

But the highlight of the day was the event the teachers held for us in the auditorium We were awestruck and entertained by their performances for us, their dear students Ranging from Mr Naveen’s lungi-sunglasses getup and ‘dhamakedar’ (exciting) dance performance with all the other male teachers to the Spanish faculty’s hip hop Zumba, to the sports faculty’s engaging dance, all the way to the ‘Shape of You’ Indian rendition of our teachers- not to forget the hilarious ‘meow’ song performance by Ms Grace and Mr Anubhab which left the students cracking up It gave every child the opportunity to realise how cherished they are in everyone’s lives- even their teacher’s.
