Organised by Rochdale Borough Blue Badge Tourist Guides Rochdale’s magnificent Grade 1 listed Town Hall is not only a stunning building, it also has a great story to tell about the growth of Rochdale and its’ place in the world. One of Rochdale’s Blue Badge Guides will tell this story whilst taking you on a tour of one of the finest Victorian Gothic town halls in the country. Your visit will include the Great Hall, Gothic Revival architecture, the newly restored Minton floor tiles, and some of the best examples of the last 19th century stained glass windows in the UK. Friends of Rochdale Art Gallery

Coach Trip – Smardale, Cumbria

For many years the Friends have been helping the Art Gallery to conserve and acquire paintings for the collection. Talks by invited speakers about art history and craft are held most months with the occasional trip to visit other art collections. On 12 June 2012 at 12.15pm Paul Talbot Greaves, a professional landscape painter and writer will demonstrate the painting of a watercolour; on 10 July 2012 Derek de Maine, an art historian with a wide knowledge of art and artists will speak about Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1525-1569); on 14 August 2012 Donald Holden, a landscape artist and retired art teacher will talk about his work and show his attractive landscape paintings and samples of his cards. Talks cost £2 per person for members; £3 for non-members, which includes refreshments, payable on the door. No booking required. All welcome. During this walk, there may be an opportunity to view the excellent exhibition about the role of the Co-operative movement in the area’s villages.
