Health Promotion (as defined by WHO) • Enables people to increase control over their own health. • Benefits and protects individual people's health and quality of life • Addresses and prevents the root causes of ill health • Not just focusing on treatment and cure.


Health Promotion as a Corner Stone of Finnish Health Services • Covers the whole population • Easily accessible: • Virtual services: e.g myHealth, on line - appointments, on line Health Village- services • Appointments: e.g walk-in clinics, integrated family health services, practice nurse clinisc • Strong impact: Research based evaluation e.g National Institute for Health and Welfare • Cost efficient: e.g salary costs nurse versus physician, short interventions


Health Promotion as a Corner Stone of Finnish Nurse Education  Health promotion and guidance & teaching is one of the national nursing competencies  Nurses promote healthy lifestyles and client's self-care by using various health promotion interventions  Nurses have a significant role as health promoters

• Appointments in health centers: 11 million in 2015, of which 5,6 million Physicians' appointments • In 2016 the most common reason for an appointment with a Nurse in a health center was Health Promotion: 500 000 appointments. This number increases significantly when appointments with Public Health Nurses are included. Public Health Nurses are especially focusing on preventive care in health services.

MINI Intervention as an Effective Intervention example: Method: • Collaborative client centered councelling model to motivate a client to reduce alcohol consumption • Includes 1-4 short appoinments with nurse Results: • According to Institute of Occupational Health 60 000 Finns would benefit from MINI intervention


Motivational Interview as an Effective Intervention example: Method: • Collaborative client centered councelling style to strengthen motivation for change of health behaviour • Used in e.g dietary modification, weight reduction, exercise planning and smoking cessation

Key concepts: 1. Collaboration 2. Drawing out client's ideas about the change of his live habbits 3. Autonomy of the client Results: • 49 % of expectant mothers who smoked, quit smoking during pregnancy.

The Kazakhstan-Finnish Education and Innovation Group, KFEIG – is the Consortium of four Finnish educational institutions: Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK), JAMK University of Applied Sciences, Lahti University of Applied Sciences (LAMK) and Tampere Adult Education Centre (TAKK).
