Editors Notes Brrrrrr...! Feel that chill in the air? I guess its time to pack away mini skirts and flip-flops and make way for some warmer, cozier gear. But have no fear, Fall is just as fashionable as any other season. I know that I’ve been dying to pull out my leggings, riding boots and slouchy sweaters, honey - and stop shaving my legs (but let’s keep that one between us, shall we?)
But wait! Its not over people! “Is it Christmas already?” you say. No. It isn’t... But we at SF are just in that kinda mood. This month’s issue also features brand new exclusive items from our dear friend Riccinumbers and a Collection Premier from spectacular fashion CC creator Glaza. WHO LOVES YOU BABY!!!?? Don’t forget to check out this month’s guest collaborator Stradlin Sims’ fashion editorial debut in “The Brothers Grimm” as well as AsiaShaMecca’s exclusive interview with EA’s very own Art Director, Samantha Micelo. Also featured in this month’s fashion editorials, Simanim’s tribute to the fun and funky fashion in “Circus Lights” and Aikea Guinea’s take on Poe’s classic “the Raven”. This month’s issue is BIG...big for several reasons. No. 1 being that we’ve welcomed yet another SF baby into the world - our design guru Allium recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and so we would like to extend to her and her family some more heartfelt congratulations. And as a treat to her and, of course, you guys - we had the awesome diva at Awesims create a special gift just for her; The Broyhill Nursery Set (thanks Sarah!). OK, well right now I am the Associate Art Director for The Sims 3. I’ll tell you a little about what I’ve done for previous games which is oversee the look and feel and style of a lot of our assets. So this includes the objects, furniture, parts of houses, architectural stuff like windows and doors and then also a lot of the clothes. A. We love them. We love The Sims, but My group and I will work on the Expansion we love to hate on them to. No independent Packs, the Stuff Packs and Store Assets. So different people may have different things in mind that they want created. They’re not telling us assets by asset what to make but they may say here’s the theme. So I think early on, especially in Store a lot of people were trying to cover more of the basics. Like, here’s the basics that we already have and let’s flesh out. But later on, as the years go by
stuff. I think as they get more used to it we become better designers ourselves just doing this year after year. The themes get more interesting. The artists get more experience with fashion. I mean most of us, we’re not Fashion Majors in school. We’ve learned a lot along the way. We actually do have people who’ve studied Fashion. Do you find that is more popular in the community? I used to read the comments and people are so mean to you guys. Do you find now that people are more receptive now to the things you’re doing? Yeah, I actually do read a lot of the comments. Of course I can’t read every one but I do read a lot of them quite a bit and I have noticed the trend lately of people being more…. I see people more excited about it. I see people go totally nuts and they’ll actually take screen shots of every single asset. And it’s great. I love seeing that. It’s really fun… to see people having fun with this stuff.
And as far as negative stuff; you’re never get 100% positive. Any forum we have… more than enough pairs of jeans and anywhere, there’s going to be some negativity more than enough basic items and we really do and I think there’s just different tastes. I see need to be more creative to shine. And it’s fun people asking for basics, and I see people for the artists to be able to do more… out there asking for more fantasy.
So everyone’s got their own tastes and opinions, which is another reason I think the Store is really great. Because they’re smaller sets, we’re able to expand the themes quite a bit rather than waiting for another EP to come out to do something new. So you start with a theme. Then where do you guys get your inspiration? Where do the ideas come from? Do you use 3D models? Is it all from scratch? What is the creation process like? We really do create everything from scratch. Having said that, we pay a lot of attention to what’s going on in the fashion world, what’s going on in the furniture design world. I myself
have gone to furniture design shows and lectures just to get a better sense of what’s going on in these other industries. And also history. We have a lot of art history furniture books lying around just to see how is something constructed. How do we interpret a style and make it Simsified? We do a lot of research but everything is created from scratch. Also, what people ask for is important. We can’t put in everything at once. But yeah, we get a lot of inspiration from requests. All of it really. If you asked for something at some point it gets put in eventually. HA! EA takes requests. I love that. Do you get to play the game?

Yes. The last couple of days I’ve been playing quite a bit. For me it’s probably not a fair look at the game. It’s very hard for me to play without critiquing all the way through. So I’m always in the game checking this or that. OK, so you can’t just come in and say I’d like to make this and put it out there for the players. What other kinds of limitations do you have? We all kinds of technical limitations. We tend to be over cautious about having assets that clip though on a lot of stuff. We don’t want to make a lot of big huge dresses or big shoulder pieces or whatnot that… you know, every time the Sim walks by the stove it’s going to go right through. We tend to be very careful. Like a little bit of clipping is OK. We’re going to have it with the more extreme assets. That’s totally fine. But we don’t it to be where it’s really out there. You know, really really obvious. Another thing is technically we don’t have a lot of transparency. We sometimes run into problems if we have heavy amounts of transparency. You know if we have fabrics layered on top of each other and they’re all transparent, that can cause some technical issues. Too many details. Like if an item has feathers all over it. That can cause problems as well. We definitely want it to look clean and not be broken in any way. In closing, what sorts of things would you like

to do? What would you like to see more of? If you could just get up tomorrow and throw in anything, what would you do? Personality I definitely like fantasy stuff quite a lot. I like sci-fi stuff. I also get really excited when we have international sets. We did an India set not too long ago and that was really fun for clothing and for objects. Seeing more stuff around the world I think would be really super fun. It’s fun combining, you know modern design
stuff that you can put in your home, with International things. We had a Cambodian Set as well and we were just going totally nuts with different furniture with Cambodian taste. That’s fun to do. It’s very unusual. You can’t just go the store and get this stuff. So, I love stuff like that. Where it’s not just something you can go pick up yourself. You get to live in the fantasy world when you’re playing the game.

You can literally download them and they’re ready to go with all the relevant content included. Quite the time-saver when we’re looking for a model. And it’s always great to have another pretty face in your game. Levitas was gracious enough to take the time and answer some questions for us. Let’s get to know this amazing Sim creator a bit better. Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us. Please tell us about yourself? My name is Maria. I am a 27 year old chemical engineer. I live in Belarus. Currently, I do not work and stay home with 2 little children. While in high-school and in college I was involved in singing and dancing. I became interested in Sims 3 recently, just a little over a year ago. Your Sims are always so very beautiful. I’m a huge fan of your work. What inspires you when you create? I get inspiration from everything around me. It could be anything – music, a movie character, a mood. Which Sims would you say are your favorites and why? I don’t have favorite sims. I love all of them. They are all different to me and all evoke some memories from my past. I can’t really pinpoint a specific one. Why did you decide to start your own blog? I started my own blog almost immediately after starting creating sims. To me it was some sort of a vault where I could store and organize my work. Also, with the help of “Blogger” system I am notified when my favorite blogs are updated and it is very convenient.

What are the challenges of running your own blog as opposed to posting on a forum like BeautySims3? What are the joys? I haven’t really encountered any major challenges or difficulties in working on my blog. I don’t really spend my time with it. In the beginning, after I first created it, I completely abandoned it for a while. Then one day I opened it and found out there are new readers including some of my favorite authors. Thus, I decided to keep working on it and now it brings me a lot of joy! It’s always fun to see a new reader or new comments. Working with Beauty-Sims is more challenging, of course, since it’s such a large scale project and is more important to me. I had some problems in the beginning. I
had to face some anger and betrayal from people that I didn’t expect it from. At first I had second thoughts about whether or not I should have even had started it. However, very shortly I found a person who persuaded me not to give up and continue my work and helped me a great deal. That person was Foret, the site administrator. Without her the site wouldn’t be the same today. Now we have a small and very friendly circle of administrators and moderators. We truly enjoy communication with each other and share our thoughts, ideas, experiences and interesting screenshots from the game. All the problems are in the past. When you create a Sim what makes you say to yourself, this Sim is ready. This is what I want to post on my blog and share with the community? Do you mean my first Sim? My very first Sim was Isabel. I don’t even know why I decided to post it online. I guess I just wanted to
share it with someone. I know when the Sim is ready when I can see a harmony in his or her image – haircut, color of eyes, skin and much much more. Something clicks inside of me telling me that it is ready. Brilliant! As a creator, what would you like to see more of in The Sims and in the community as whole? I never thought about it. As of today, I am perfectly happy. I would want my characters to be as realistic as possible. Sometimes Sims from different authors look very much alike just because they have the same haircut or color of the eyes. I would want to have more possibilities in creating Sims. I think that would be possible if Sims 4 is released.

Summer’s ok. Yeah, -Bikini Bikini BIKINI- Summer is really OK. But Autumn is always number one for me. Why Autumn you ask? Knowing my depth of character, I’m sure you think it’s the lovely turning of the leaves. The brisk chill in the air. Perhaps the changing of the Seasons presents the perfect time for reflection and the metaphors for life in death falling off every tree. NOPE! I love Autumn ‘cause chicks in boots are HOT! Sweaters and minis and tights are HOT! Tragic Twilight emo chicks with their thigh socks and lil’ Forever Young crochet sweaters are HOT! Did I spoil it for you? Are you shaking your head at the shallowness of it all? GREAT! Then I’ve done my muckraking job. These pictures have all the depth you need. They would move me to tears if I still had tears to shed. Somewhere a sad eyed girl is brushing her hair out of her eyes in a twilit field of heather. The wind ruffles her knit mini. She shuffles her clogs. And she doesn’t know it yet, but yeah…. She’s HOT! Enjoy these visions of Autumn. I hope I didn’t ruin it for ya. Not that I could if I tried. Jasumi is a genius and Autumn is FINALLY here!

The Brothers Grimm Tfavorite hese guys might be from a different century, they might hunt down your fairytale, and they might even find the gruesome truth. But they do it in style.
Haunting dark alleys with shadows lurking, traumatized young women, sleepy towns drenched in fog night and day. These fellows work hard. Their pristine trench coats, dark top hats and brooding looks all dictate their countenance. The Brothers Grimm gives us a glimpse at male gothic fashion with dark colors, heavy fabrics, thickly wrapped scarves and soft leather boots. Some might say that these looks died a while ago, but we at SF find it alluring, mysterious and in a way dangerous. All we can say is take a page out of the Brothers Grimm book boys. These brothers know how to dress the part and rescue the damsel in distress; a deadly combination.

e continue our inspired showcase of EA creations here in our CC spotlight with an exploration of the possibilities of EA only interior design. So much of our interior design projects and showcases emphasize the vast collections and selections of community created objects, but have you taken a look at the extensive selection available with only official EA items? The variety is nothing to balk at as the expansions, stuff packs and store item collection grows and grows. Those of us who believe that we cannot achieve our design dreams without external cc might find ourselves pleasantly surprised and inspired.

Builders face the challenge of creating attractive builds without the burden of a huge cc list. Being able to create great designs with gameprovided dĂŠcor and objects is key. While cc laden designs do draw gasps of awe, a cc-free build will gather the attention of the community at large in a barrage of appreciative commentary. Our designer Kementari presents to you just a scratch of the surface of possibilities. Challenge yourself to delve deeper and explore the dĂŠcor and design possibilities of official EA offerings. World Showcase Pounawea by Awesims
Some Sims like the hustle & bustle of the big city, while others prefer a much slower pace, in a place where they can relax and enjoy natures bounty. Pounawea is just such a place. The township, situated on an estuary, lies where the Owaka and Catlin rivers meet. A wonderful place to fish, hike and relax, Pounawea is a popular summer holiday spot, with its spectacular waterfalls, gorgeous views of the mountains, and friendly locals. In recent times, the idyllic town was chosen as the site for a premier golf course, and with it came tourists and their money, a very luxurious golf club and brand new visitor centre. Fortunately (or not, depending on your point of view) the town has retained all its sleepy character, which you’ll notice as you wander down the main stret, with its small shops long overdue for a makeover.

Despite its small size, you’ll find plenty to do in Pounawea. Performers can be seen regularly at the swanky club in the new Golf Club, with smaller acts performing in the basement club & Community Centres. Of course the locals prefer to have a pint at the local watering hole, where budding musicians are often found practicing their new songs. There’s a lot this town doesn’t have, but what it does have is just wonderful.
World Theme: This world is designed to be relaxed, “holiday-ish” coastal Otago town, and as such doesn’t have some of the rabbitholes or community lots. There is no stadium, no movie theatre, only 2 bar types (sports & dive bar), no junkyard (but there are junkyard spawners behind the nectary & some junk piles there), and no movie set. There are, however, a few empty lots should you wish to place your own. There is not a great deal of room for expansion in this world, but if your sim wants the simple life, this is the world for you!
Population: I was originally going to pre-populate the world, but have since decided to provide a save file instead, for people who wish to populate the world with their own sims. In the save game the world is populated with 15 different families, which gives the town a starting population of 57 sims. There is a diverse mix of sims, with different ages, genders, sexualities and ethnicities.
