At long last, the snow is melting and spring is on the way. Green grass! Tulips! Spring break! And SF throws off its sweaters and coats and breaks out the pastels chile! Now, before I wow you with the ins and outs of our spring extravaganza, I wanted to take a personal moment to bid a fond farewell to our Senior Interiors Editor, hmsdrco2001. Bill is one of the dearest people I know. While I’ll miss him greatly as a Simmer, I applaud him for following his heart and staying true to what he believes and his feelings about the game. If you ever decide to come back to the raft Bill honey, I’m saving a spot for you. *sniffle* So… as we were saying, this issue SF paints itself as bright as a basket of Easter eggs. And I am LOVING it. We bring fashion trends to Sims 4 life in our new feature, Trends. All About Style graces us with a glorious Collection of Carolina-Herrera dresses. ll About S t y l e stunned us with her Sims 2 creations. Her Sims 3 content was unforgettable, and now she is bringing the fierceness again to Sims 4. We asked Judie of All ABout Style to talk with us about creating through all those Sims versions. And don’t forget to check out her incredible Collection Premiere later in this issue! Judie, you’re quite frankly a Sims icon. But for those new to the Sims, please tell us about yourself. I started creating for the Sims toward the end of Sims 1, but I didn’t start my website until 2004 when Sims 2 was well on its way. Sometimes it is hard to believe how much time has gone by as it just doesn’t seem like that long ago. It is wonderful to have such a hobby that h a s

kept my interest for that many years. It’s kind of a way of life by now. I travel quite a bit, and it is fortunate that the Sims can travel along. I can create or just prep things for future updates as I travel around. In an earlier exchange, you mentioned you didn’t think you would be creating much for Sims 4. But the great sets just keep on coming. Why have you kept creating? I don’t play the Sims 4 game as much as I did Sims 3, so that leaves a lot more time for creating. Also there is not yet an overabundance of Sims 4 clothing so it is not hard to come up with ideas which is a good thing. Our last interviewee said she actually enjoyed creating for SIms 4 better because the lack of Create A Style meant that her clothes look the way she intended on designing them. What are your thoughts on creating for Sims 4? I agree with that comment. For Sims 3 we learned how to create things in shades of grey so that color and prints could be overlaid in Create A Style. You do get used to it, but using color is a lot more fun. I do however still design in shades of grey but now I can overlay my own handmade prints over them. I really
enjoy trying to duplicate designer fabrics.
What tools do you use? Would you say it is more difficult to create for Sims 4 and how so? I use Photoshop CS3, Milkshape, Sims4Studio, S4CASTool and S4pe. For now making new meshes is pretty limiting for me with my skill level. I do hope tha more tools become available fo meshing that are user friend Sims4Studio and S4CASTool are rea great though. They are easy to u and produce great results. It wou be a great time for newbies to beg Actually I do see many newcome so that is great.
How do you decide what sets to create? Does the creation process for the new game influence your decision? A few things in a collection must catch my eye as being a little different. Then even more importantly there must b e

enough items that are “do-able� with the existing meshes or be something that I can mesh myself. I enjoy the challenge of making designer clothing as close to the originals as possible.

Sims4Studio and S4CASTool are really great though. They are easy to use and produce great results.
Out of all the versions, which has been your favorite to create content for and why? What have been some of the differences for you? That would have to be Sims 2. I had a lot more

time than I do now. I really got into historical content, especially Victorian. I did research and bought antique magazines, catalogs and books on eBay. I spent endless hours coming up with ideas. Also, it was possible with Sims 2 to actually have a themed neighborhood with even the NPC’s dressed appropriately.
community lots. We also need more things for the character to do...Hopefully “Get To Work” will provide this. Also it would be great if players could create their own worlds like Sims 3.
What do you see in the future for your Sims 4 designs? I don’t really have a good answer for that. As I enjoy designer collections it is great that they are always changing...New collections just keep coming. As of this interview an announcement has just been made of the new expansion pack, “Get To Work.” Now, that could have inspiring possibilities for career clothing. In closing, what would like to see in the future for the Sims and the Sims Community as a whole? I hope that Sims 4 expands a little more quickly that it has been doing. We need more and bigger neighborhoods with a lot more residential and

THE VOICE OF SIM’S WORLD MUSIC GROUP SPEAKS
I
f you’ve put in anytime watching the runaway phenomenon that is Sims World TV, you know Venice Vass. This 24 year old overnight R&B sensation from Paris, France has landed a $1.5 million dollar concert with Sims World Music Group. She is all over the airways making appearances –like her Jingling Christmas Eve show stopper. Soon to tour with Arcadia and Charlie Baltimore, Venice took a quick break from filming her first video for her upcoming album to speak with us. Venice! You’re looking amazing girl! Thank you for the warm compliment. It feels so wonderful to be here. I love your magazine. I can’t believe I’m actually here. This is all surreal. :) You look great yourself by the way as always. Mark Stone has said, “Venice is young, sexy and intelligent. She’s extremely talented and looking for the number one spot.” That’s high praise from one of the hardest working men I know. What drives you? How hard do you push yourself? Well, Mark is a sweetheart. I remember
when I met him in Paris after his surgery, he said to me, “You are a gem, and if you want the best, I will do what it takes to help you get it.” After that, I’ve been working so hard and enjoying every moment of it. This has been a beautiful opportunity in the states. I push myself as if my life depends on it. No one is promised tomorrow, and if you want to have an enriched and seasoned life, you have to take action and meet challenges head on with no fear. I live for this! Many are called, but few are chosen. Why do you think you are succeeding in such a tough field? Thank you for that. I believe I’m extremely passionate about my art and my progression in my craft. I continue to read, practice and I’m not afraid to ask for help when I need it. Most Sims, especially talented Sims, don’t like to ask for assistance. I thrive off of it. For instance, Alyssia Melange from Sims 3 Next Top Fashion Model helped me at my beginning stages with a whole new makeover. That was just simcredible! You have to be open-minded to criticism and learn from it.

Do you feel this “overnight” success has changed you in any way? It defiantly has. I’m just a pretty girl from Paris, France with 2 loving parents, an older sister and a younger brother. Today I’m riding in limousines, shooting movies, music videos, attending red carpets. I even live in a mini mansion. This has made me more appreciative of life and the importance of happiness and friends. It’s made me stronger rather than any negative effects. There are crowds everywhere but I value my fans and love them to death.

How hard do you push yourself? And when will you be completely satisfied with your work? Yes! My album is going extremely well. It’s produced by Deevon Mase. We have been working on it for awhile. It’s been tough since we’ve all been shooting the movie, RUN. Now that the film is complete, I’m back in the studio finishing up. I’m never satisfied until I can put myself into the listener’s shoes and sit back and enjoy every song. An album is a story to me, and I need my story to be expressed with the utmost respect and integrity. What can we expect from this debut? What’s next for rising star Venice Vass? You can expect the heat and the ice. The heat will have you dancing and ice will chill you out and massage your mind. The music video will also be coming out sometime next month. There’s been a rumor going on about the RUN movie turning into a series depending on its

success at SIFF. You know, Mark is always doing something new and crazy. So we’ll see if I’m invited back to that project. I hope so. I had such an amazing time being a bad girl. LOL. A World Premiere In this month’s issue I’ve been visited by a beautiful young lady and good friend of mine, Simmer Shymamii aka Shy from Access Sims. Shy wanted to interview me about my new machinima film, RUN starring SF Magazine’s own AsiaShamecca Sims and Deevon Mase. SIMMER SHYMAMII:
Good to see you Mark! Thank you for having me as a guest interviewer for your section. Please tell our readers what inspired you to produce and direct this new movie, RUN?
urban film. I wanted to use real Sim personalities. We have an amazing cast that has paved a way for themselves within the Sims community.
SIMMER SHYMAMII:
MARK STONE: I was very excited about SIFF from last year and wanted to participate in a creative way. I thought about an interesting concept that I haven’t seen in machinimas and decided to base it on an urban idea. Then I watched the Jay Z and Beyonce video RUN, from his recent album and I wanted to expand on that.
Please name a few.
I asked AsiaShamecca Sims and Deevon J Mase if they would be interested since they already had a fling going on. It was a perfect match. Matt Golden helped out as Associate Producer and we had the beginnings of a great movie.
The RUN EXPERIENCE is a concept that I created to showcase every component of the movie. We have received such a great response that we wanted to add more than just the movie. Here’s what the RUN EXPERIENCE includes: Cast Member Showcase - Read about the characters and their roles in the movie.

I’m just enjoying the ride. As fas as the party, the turn out was wonderful. We all had a great time and celebrated this outstanding accomplishment.

I think I have the movie bug now. I would love to make a RUN 2 and maybe a series. There’s talk about my good friend Rodrick Simmer being a part of it and a few other folks. Who knows? Let’s see how this first movie goes and take it from there. I would hate to rush into anything especially when my plate is already full. Actually my next BIG filming project is our Bad Girls Rock concert featuring three major artists: Venice, Arcadia and Charlie B. This tour will shock the world. I can’t wait to get started on that.

hey say that reality is like our eyesight, a fixed oval, welded to the frontlet of our consciousness. We call it “now.” Flowing into that oval is the future; the outflow is labeled as history, hindsight. What we do inside our oval is each’s grand occupation in life. This time of year reminds us it’s an instantaneous and yet suspended process of birth, death and rebirth. Not that the Dutch are the only ones on the planet typifying it, but I can think of no better persona of this than what is seen in modern Dutch architectural concepts. The paradigm I speak of is the life lived that maintains both history and hope in its purview so as to create a healthy “now” inside ones oval. Living spaces are a window to the soul. Peak in and see what’s inside. For instance, disturbed or purposeless souls generally inhabit dank, disheveled environs. “From the excesses of the heart a life speaks,” says an ancient proverb. It’s so true.
“Study the past if you would define the future,” also sayeth one Confucius. The Dutch have done their homework. There you are graced everywhere by nostalgia and nouveau sharing the same structural venue, like a euro-translation of yin yang. Some cultures cling to the past at all costs while some flush it down the commode in the name of progress. It’s reaffirming indeed to see evidence inside and outside in Holland that values both. It tells me that these people have their “now” oval in synch. This windmill conversion is a fine example. The builder/owner has named it De Goede Hoop, or Good Hope. It is just one variation amongst a sea of others on a theme within the Dutch psyche. For starters, the iconic imagery of the windmill is a thing unto itself. If you have ever seen the guts of a working windmill in action you know what a fantastic display of forward thinking mechanical engineering it is and was in its day.

The west addition with its atrium glass and ground to peak roofline does not prostitute the old, but actually honors it by perpetuating the same progressive thinking. It has become a Dutch signature. For very practical reasons the original load-bearing support members were left in place, reminders of the foundational past. Parts of the original structure had to be bolstered up. Again, for practical reasons tubular steel was chosen over wood, which is now astronomically expensive and environmentally irresponsible. Starkly contrasting textures generally look better together than having some of them just a bit eschew each to the other in an effort to replicate the original. Tie it all together with final appointments executed in the same thought process and there you have it, wholesome everyday living within the oval. You don’t have to be Dutch to see life and living spaces under these terms, but scrub the Irish; I wish I was orange, not green.

why I bought the first Sims, but I was hooked from the beginning. I like building more than playing. I wish I had more time to build lots and so. So when 2, 3 and 4 came along, I had to buy them all!

Never give up!!! If something doesn’t work, just don’t give up! Keep trying and practicing. That is the only thing you can do to get better at what you do, and I don’t mean meshing only; it is what you need to do in life!

I had my reservations when The Sims below & also at Mutske’s studio 4 was announced. But then I saw what http://www.thesimsresource.com/artists/Mutske/ they had done with the windows, I was in love immediately… My hope where I could make windows for The Sims 4 and now I have already done that! What I miss the most is the style editor…. I hope it will come back soon. And a lot of expansions of course... can’t play without expansion packs.

irst of all, thanks so much for taking the time to speak to me. You are a great and inspiring builder, and I’d like to know you better. If you could tell me something about yourself ?
You’re quite welcome. I have read every issue of SF since it came out, and I’m excited about the opportunity to be featured in such an awesome publication! I’m a 44 year old happily married, stay-at-home mom to two young boys (ages 3 and 7). Prior to shifting into my family role, I was the IT Development Manager at an agricultural firm, so it’s been quite a change! When I get some free time, in addition to simming, I also like to play other games (primarily RPGs), stay fit (I weight lift and run), watch my favorite TV shows and movies, and read. When did you first start playing The Sims series, and what are your favorite aspects of the game? I started playing with the very first Sims game. I was fascinated by the sims creation system, genetics, and the story-telling aspects. I didn’t get into building until The Sims 3, but once I did, I found myself building more often than playing. Now, with TS4, it’s been 100% building so far, although I did have some fun with CAS at first. I love that the game is so multi-faceted, so that if you get bored in one area, there is another to explore.

Are you, by any chance professionally active in landscaping or architecture? If your works spoke for themselves, one could easily assume this. I wish! No, I have no professional background in architecture, interior design, or landscaping. If I had a chance to do my college education over again, I definitely would have gone into architecture though. I still daydream about maybe going back to school for it someday when my kids are older. Any favorite styles of design? I am always drawn to modern builds; the unique shapes, the strong color contrasts, and the seemingly infinite possibilities for innovation. I love the sleek, minimalistic style of modern decor too. What made you want to start sharing your builds with the world? I didn’t start sharing right away. It was only after I felt like I was capable of doing quality work and once I started developing new techniques that I felt like I had something to offer other simmers. What is your favorite aspect of building? What are your greatest challenges when building a lot? That’s a tough call, but I’d have to put the architecture at #1 most of the time. I really like playing with the structure, and I’m usually able to make progress at a decent pace. I enjoy interior design, but I sometimes get bogged down in it. One of my biggest challenges is finding a way to accomplish what I want to do when the game isn’t able to support it (yet) or arriving at a compromise when it just isn’t possible by any means. For instance, with my most recent build, Tru-Log Cabin, designed for Outdoor Retreat, I wanted to use log siding and stone columns. Unfortunately, the game pack did not include a log siding that matched my needs; nor were there any stone columns. Instead of giving up (which I considered!), I played around with the other new objects and discovered that via the bb.moveobjects cheat, I could stack the new log seats through the walls to simulate the log siding, and I could also stack the new stone garbage cans to form stone columns. How do you start building? Do you have a plan, sketch before you go in-game, or does the inspiration hit as soon as you enter Build Mode?

I usually start building based on an inspirational image or images, often something I’ve seen on Pinterest. Sometimes it’s a structure I’ve seen in my local area. I very rarely go in with a plan or a sketch though. I like to start with some ideas and a general layout in mind but nothing solid so that I can easily adapt and change as the design evolves in game. How long does it take you to build a lot? Just short of forever! Well, that’s how it feels anyway. Typically a month, I’d say. I’m a perfectionist, which is a blessing and a curse both. I think it’s a personality trait that helps me to produce a quality product, but at the same time, there are times when I wish I could throw it out the window so I could move at a faster pace, as I know I’m worrying over some detail that someone else probably wouldn’t even notice or care about...but I just can’t do it. ;P Do you have any advice to offer to people that just started building in the Sims? Sure! Download the builds that you admire on the Gallery and examine them closely to figure out the techniques that were used. Don’t be shy about asking for help; the Sims 4 Lots forum is a great place to get advice and to get to know other builders. Don’t shy away from a challenge, but if you’re getting frustrated, look for other options. Always be true to yourself in your builds and let your own particular aesthetic shine through; it’s what will set you apart! Are there particular builders in the Simming community you’ve found particularly inspiring or considered as mentors? Oh, there are so many, I hardly know where to start! As far as mentorship goes, there was a builder back in TS3 days named Fidlerten who helmed a thread devoted to providing feedback to up & coming builders. I learned a great deal from him and other advanced builders that posted on that thread. When it comes to inspiration, I have always respected ruthlesskk; every build she does is quality. I was in awe of builders like petalbot (jaw dropping, straight-out-of-a-magazine builds) and SimEve (amazingly creative); I’m so happy to see them getting started in TS4 now. And there are some builders I’ve just met since coming to TS4 that I find brilliant: TheGreenLion (super creative), aquilifer (roofing whiz), Cerrydd (so inventive), as well as others like Cassee (great style)
PurpleKachina (master of modern exteriors), and wrathofcath (beautiful interior design) who made the leap with me. And I’m always on the lookout for new, talented builders. Almost every day, I see something on the Gallery that amazes and inspires me! Are there new project you’re working on? Yes, I’ve got a few in the works, but I haven’t been able to settle into one yet. This is rather typical for me when there is an expansion on the horizon; I feel like I need to know what new objects and possible advancements are coming before I waste time on something I’m just going to axe once I have my hands on new shinies. For instance, in this case, I had in mind a residence that would also include an art gallery, but I’ve just learned that we won’t be able to run home

businesses, so I need to scrap that idea. I would also like to find out whether there are new stair types in the expansion, as I’m really waiting on spiral stairs for one of my builds. In comparison to Sims 3, which new build feature is your favorite? Roofing, definitely. I am amazed by what can be done with it, and I really enjoy playing around to create new shapes with it. In closing, any words for your fans (yours truly included)? “Fans,” that’s a word I shy away from, but I am so grateful when someone likes something
I’ve created; when they notice and appreciate the creativity and details I tried to put into it. It’s so encouraging, and it helps me get through the period of self-doubt and frustration that I go through with every single build. Yes, I almost scrapped my Rock N Roll House build, along with probably every build I’ve worked on. ;P So thank you to anyone that’s ever left me such kind feedback on my work; I greatly appreciate it!
